Also purchased and read the same night I went ham on a B&N BOGO manhwa sale.

Meh. This was more disappointing than cute/funny. The whole reason she fought to be Emperor (other than survival) and decided to have a harem was because the man she loved married someone in a political joining to solidify his power and he wanted her as the Mistress who had his heart, but not his hand.

She was heartbroken and wanted to hurt him back. How childish. I would think in a politics arena like that, she would understand that love didn’t always make the best political alliances.

It’s ok. The art is pretty and the story isn’t horrible, but weird dichotomy. She’s childish and wants to hurt the man who hurt her, but then she’s a tyrant who ruthlessly stamps out her opposition, even when it’s a blood relative trying to stage a coup. The male advisors think she’s going to let her brother live because she’s an emotional girl and that means he will live to try another day and she does the smart thing and has him and his followers executed. They are flabbergasted that she would do such a thing, but if a man did that it would be expected.

So she’s a woman-child instead of a man-child? 🤷‍♀️

Also the men who will be in the harem are SO OTT, it’s kinda meh. Her male BFF from childhood/guard might be a decent member of the harem, but the rest are just too TOO.

Also, despite him being on the cover, he doesn’t gain entry to the harem in this volume. I hate when the cover spoils the book.

Whatevs. It was ok, but not worth full price for me.

3, it was entertaining but I’m not going to go out of my way for the next volume, stars.

What's good for the gander is good for the goose in this story - after her former presumptive fiance attempts to have his cake and eat it too, Latil rises to become the emperor of her own country and declares that, like the male rulers before her, she will have a harem. Naturally all of the courtiers are in a twitter, because how could a woman have a male harem?! It's not as good as Alphatart's other series in English, The Remarried Empress, but I am looking forward to watching Latil burn the patriarchy down.

Ay me gustó mucho!✨

Thanks Yen Press / Netgalley for the copy🤍

Okay, I'll admit, I am VERY intrigued. Klein is so funny, and I actually kind of love Latil, and hope she gets the revenge she deserves. Latil is a little bit crazy but that makes me like her even more. It has so many random funny moments!

I want for Hyacinth to not end up being the end game Love Interest, because I really don't like him. I can't wait to see the rest of the people she chooses, and how that's going to change the direction of the story (which means I'm off to Webtoon to read the rest of the chapters ((there's so MANY CHAPTERS)) )

Thank you to IZE Press for this ARC! all thoughts and opinions expressed are entirely my own.

I really enjoyed this webtoon the first time I read it, and as always, I'm Sir Sonnaugh bias, Yasir, and Prince Klein as well.

What drew me from this webtoon is initially the reverse harem and a woman in power route that was really justified in the character of our FL here. Not to mention the political intrigued of every comsort faction and other conflict boiling.

I also really enjoyed the premise, especially the murder mystery going and a very obvious reincarnation plot with our Emperor here. The end of this volume was so thrilling that I couldn't wait to jump to the next one 🤚🏼. Thank you, Ize Press, for the review copy via Edelweiss. 4⭐️.

This was very different from what the description made me expect. No harem stuff whatsoever, clean or dirty. Princess Latrasil’s great love, Hyacinth (a man, despite the name), becomes the ruler of the neighbouring kingdom, and chooses a political marriage over Latrasil, despite swearing to love her forever. He has the audacity to ask her to wait for five years for him. He’ll divorce his wife then.

But Latrasil isn’t a pushover, even for love, and she refuses. She doesn’t have time for a broken heart though. First, her father makes her a crown princess, so she has to study, and then her father is assassinated and her brother usurps the throne. A couple of years passes before Latrasil can take the throne.

Only then, after several chapters, is the harem mentioned; well, besides the prologue. To a great shock of her council, she decides to have a harem. And she asks Hyacinth to send someone for it too. A good revenge, and that’s how he takes it when he sends his little brother. But even if she’s ready to forget him, it appears he’s not ready to give her up. Only one other harem member of five was chosen in this volume, and he didn’t get much screen time yet.

This was a good start, with good art, and more interesting than I anticipated, even if it was mostly setting the stage. Based on this, I don’t really know what to expect going forward. Likely there will be more court intrigue with romance on the side. But I already dislike Hyacinth, so I hope he’s not the endgame. And his brother is even worse. Currently shipping her bodyguard, although the other chosen guy seemed interesting too. I’ll read on.

This was a great introduction to what is sure to be a wonderfully chaotic and unpredictable series.

Latrasil is a great character. She pushes through her heartbreak to become someone formidable- a female emperor with power. She also decides that if male emperors can have multiple consorts and concubines, then rightfully she should also, and starts with five consorts.

We meet two of them so far in this volume, and they are very different. One is stoic and has lived his life mostly in the background, facts that hide what might be a very ambitious nature. The other is slightly unhinged in the most hilarious way. We also meet Latrasil's knight, who while not part of her harem, clearly has some feelings for her.

The continued presence of Latrasil's "ex" leaves me to wonder if he will become a love interest again. He's a bit cowardly and hypocritical, but so far not irredeemable.

I am excited to see where this goes. Whichever direction it takes, I hope the harem stays for a long while, and only gets bigger.

LOVE TO SEE WOMEN IN MALE DOMINATED FIELDS!!!! Get your harem girl.
What do you do when you're beloved that you've waited patiently for finally returns...engaged to someone else? You make a harem of hotties, one that includes his relative, that's what.
While I was hoping to see the actual formation of the harem, I'm glad that the author took a full volume to lay down the plot and give us some depth to the characters that will be involved in the aforementioned harem. The characters are over the top, and the main plot line is petty revenge. I love it, I love the mess of it all. I'm looking forward to continuing this, love to see a diva living her best life.

When Emperor Latrasil ascends to the throne, she lacks the man who was supposed to love her forever--Prince Hyacinth, who married another. Since Latrasil has no intention of falling in love again, she decides her best revenge is to emulate other emperors and set up a harem of her own, with five unutterably gorgeous and well-connected men. Ranamun is the son of a duke who supported Latrasil--he's broody and dark-haired and determined to become her number one consort. Tasir is from a wealthy trading family (I think), and he takes great pleasure in all the drama going on around him--when he's not causing it. But he's also good in a fight. I can't remember the name of the one who looks fragile and shy, and was a childhood companion of Latrasil. He seems to have no expectations. The mercenary king is oddly pale and cool, and keeps referring to Latrasil as "Master." What's up with that? The fifth consort is Prince Klein, Hyacinth's younger brother. He's vain and honest and needy, and is rather like an overgrown, not very bright puppy. Despite the fact that there is a harem, this is more a political fantasy adventure than anything else, because of course there's a prophecy and Latrasil is at the heart of it.

This is a Webtoon that's got a very complicated, intertwined plot that's nearly impossible to follow--I read a lot of comments on it that the commenter has no idea what's going on but will continue to read anyway, which is pretty much me as well. It's definitely for adults, based on the fanservice, but there's not a ton of romance. More political intrigue and supernatural happenings. It's gorgeous, of course, in the usual Manwha style, though it's nice to see a Manwha royal woman wearing pants most of the time. And she doesn't only have five consorts, because her personal guard is clearly in love with her, and she also ends up harboring the cheerfully straightforward Great Sage, a holy man who is as ripped as all the rest of them. It's popcorn drama on steroids! My favorite is Tasir, because he always makes me laugh.

[NetGalley provided an eARC copy in exchange for an honest review~]

I picked this up on a whim, fully expecting one of those mature comics that lack plot and are basically just smut… but to my surprise, I actually really enjoyed the story. And there was no smut!

It turned out to be quite political, and wow—can the FL really hold a grudge.

At first, I didn’t hate Prince Hyacinth—not enough to justify Latrasil taking in a harem that included his own brother. But I did appreciate that she had enough sense not to wait another five years for him just so he could secure his position as emperor. Also, I adored the conversation between Latrasil and Prince Hyacinth’s fiancée. Rather than seeing each other as enemies, they saw each other as allies?, which was such a refreshing dynamic.

Actually, I’m still on the fence about completely hating Prince Hyacinth. I mean yeah, I don’t think he’s a good guy, but it’s like they both can’t get over each other with how they keep poking at one another.

Latrasil’s character also undergoes a drastic shift from the beginning of the volume to the middle—like, whiplash level change. Initially, she seems heartbroken and weak, clinging to the love of a man. But then, we quickly realize she’s not weak at all. It was actually nice to have an FL who isn’t some overpowered character who thinks she’s above having a loving relationship. Of course, that kind of goes out the window when she decides she’s just going to have a harem instead, but hey, it is called Men of the Harem, so fair enough. 😂

tldr: Yes, there’s plenty of talk about harems, but this is actually a surprisingly political and intriguing story—with no smut (at least in this volume). Also has a himbo!

I received an eARC via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

The newly crowned Queen Latil is all for equality. If her predecessors and her ex boyfriend could have harems with dozens of concubines, she, too, deserves 5-6 hot guys at the very least. As a start. She worked for it, she defeated a rebellion, studied state craft, even forced herself to go to her ex's wedding as a diplomatic gesture. Now it's time for her to receive a well earned reward. But when you're the head of a country, relationships are sure to bring more headache than what a pretty face or two is worth, so how will Latil navigate her new many-pointed situationship?

A lot happens in this first volume, largely shown through a flashback spanning several years. Latil's inner monologues are precious, but she's definitely a capable ruler with a strong personality - one part humor, two parts thirst for vengeance. The story is just about to pick up when the first volume ends, so I'd definitely recommend getting at least the first two at once if you want to dive into this world of intrigue and innuendos.

The art style is rather average, but complements the story well. I have a feeling the artist's favourite character to draw is the duke's son. (Just a guess)

We have yet to see if there's an underlying conspiracy in the background or all suspicious activity can be traced back to people being jealous over each other. I'm personally looking forward to finding out more.

I received a copy from Ize Press through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Latrasil Valentine Tarium is soothing a broken heart after the love of her life decides to marry someone else. Not only did she have to hear the news from someone else, but he also had the nerve to ask for her to wait five years for him. In the midst of everything, Latrasil learns that her older brother is abdicating and that she will be inheriting the throne when her father passes. Throwing herself into her studies, she also hatches a revenge plan. She’s going to take multiple consorts once she’s emperor, and then make her ex select one of her consorts. Oh my!

While this wasn’t what I was expecting, it was still a pretty good read. We follow Latrasil from the time that she meets her first love up until she’s a scorned woman ready to put her revenge plan into effect. It was more serious than I was expecting, and politics ended up being a much larger plot than I was expecting. However, it’s not always serious. There’s some pretty funny events, which allows us to see another side to the characters. I really enjoyed reading this and look forward to seeing where the story goes from here. Plus, the artwork is stunning! If an art book for the series came out somewhere down the line, I would be all over it.

Genre: Why Choose Manhwa (rated Teen)

The Catalog: why choose (MFMMMM), revenge plot, Emperor FMC, building a harem, political intrigue

My Blurb: As Princess of the Tarium Empire, Latil had it all; an Emperor father that loved her, the best education money could buy, and a first love that felt like forever. Until that first love broke her heart and her father was assassinated, leaving the throne to be fought over. After she wins the right to rule, Latil has one thing on her mind: revenge. To get back at her ex, the new Emperor of an allied foreign nation, she declares that she shall take five consorts. Let the harem building begin.

Thoughts:
A very interesting start to a series, indeed. Admittedly, this is low on romance / harem, high on plot / political intrigue but I am interested enough in the premise that I will definitely continue reading to see where things go.

I do like Latil as a FMC; she’s very badass and vicious, even. She handles being a woman in a male dominated space very well and I’m here for her journey into polyamory.

As for the MMCs, it’s a little too early to have much of an opinion, but I’m hoping romance will become more of a focus moving forward (without losing the interesting political themes).

The art style is very lovely and detailed.

I always LOVE LOVE these kind of WEBToon/Manwhas so when I saw this one up on Netgalley I had to request it and I am so glad I did it! Plus, look at that cover. swoons

In this one we meet a girl named Latil who is eager to get her happy ending with the man she loves. Until she is betrayed and I seriously wanted to punch the guy. I loved that instead of her just doing nothing, or continue crying, she steps up. Especially when she gets a chance to be the heir to the throne. That is when things truly get awesome. This girl is studious, eager to learn, and throws herself into learning everything. I already loved Latil because she kicked ass (and looked gorgeous in both dresses and suits) but seeing her take control of things like this and then when things go south don’t immediately go for option one but actually think about things? Perfection. This girl is perfect for the role of empress. And even when she is an empress she keeps her opinions and tries to make things her own. I have read emperor/empress stories in which the emperor/empress will let themselves be swayed by the dukes/ministry/etc. but this girl has plans and she fights. I loved seeing Latil grow as the story continues and I am definitely curious to see how things will go. Plus, what she is planning with all the consorts, teehee. Yes, I am ready for some sexy times/romance.

Like with a harem. The people under her just want her to have one consort, but this girl has dreams. She wants at least 5, maybe more. Maybe rotating them? I loved seeing her lay her case down and come with some very good arguments. I mean, if you are giving all the guys before her big big consort heavens then she can have one too.

I hated ALL THE MEN. ALL OF THEM. Or at least the ones that are dateable. If only Latil’s knight was dateable, because he seems the only good one. I guess for me it also didn’t help we get to see their POVs at times. If it just focussed on Latil maybe I wouldn’t feel so strong about these guys. XD

Seriously. Hyacinth (who the heck names their son that) is an asshole. Leaves for years for a war, lets a girl think she is going to get married to him that it is truly love, only to end with him engaged to another woman (for the sake of the empire puke) and that if she can just wait 5 years she can still marry him, aka left-overs. Yeah, nope. Also I think it is sus what was mentioned at the end. Yeah, sure you did all that? Mmm, let’s first see proof of that.

Then there is Klein, the brother of Hyacinth, who clearly has a few screws lose and thinks that Latil has the hots for him whereas she was clearly out of her mind drunk and NOT TALKING ABOUT HIM OBVIOUSLY. But instead of thinking, or listening, or keeping his distance, he is a creeper. He gets into her harem (the test one I guess) and he just wanders into her room without any permissions. Ewww. Nope.

Then there is that boy from the duke who is all mysterious and reclusive and suddenly wants to join the harem? Um, SUSSSSSSSSS. I don’t believe for one bit he has good intentions. I hope so. For Latil’s sake, but at this point, SUS SUS SUS.

I hope that in the next volume we get a few more dateable men and less red flags. I mean harem stories are fun because you also want to be dating these guys. It is less fun if they are all creepy or assholes. So come on story and bring me some HOT hunks to root for. Like again, the knight?

The art was a lot of fun though and I so so loved it. OK, some scenes, further away or when faces just weren’t the priority were just a bit weird.

But all in all, I am definitively into reading more of this one, I want to see Latil get her revenge, I want to see who is intercepting stuff, I want to get some actually good guys in the harem. I need more!

What a great and unusual start. Great art as well. I like it better than the “remarried empress” so far (from the same team)

The FMC is in love with a foreign crown prince, who promises to marry her once he deals with a coup in his country. But for political reasons, he marries someone else and asks her to wait 5 years to get out of that marriage. Heartbroken she returns home only to find that she inherits the throne of her country - her brother the crown prince renounced the title and nominated her. This is contested by their younger brother. A battle for the title ensues. Once she wins, she kills said brother and announces that she will have a harem of 5 male consorts, both as a revenge against her previous lover and as a defiance to the patriarchy. Her character and the setting are both interesting, and have great promise for interesting plot. We get a first glimpse at two of the consort prospects, and at least one of them seems to have depth potential. The second is the brother of her ex lover, who “joins” on a complete misunderstanding, which introduces some comic elements as well. Can’t wait for the next installment

I'm not overly familiar with manhwa, so when Men of the Harem first volume collection popped up on NetGalley with a pretty interesting premise I put in a request!

The whole almost 300 page volume is in full color with a range of character designs making it really easy to tell everyone apart (which could be, and has been, a concern in similar concepts). Likewise, although in volume 1 we don't know much about any of the men vying to be part of the five-man starting harem, we learn a lot about Latil's motivations and the beginnings of at least some of these men. Most of this volume is backstory (and gorgeous outfits) leading up to how Latil became emperor and how she's getting herself together a harem of consorts, so I think this'll be fun for people into fantasy royal politics and love-more-than-triangles.

A great start!

Latrasil Valentine Tarium is no push over. The man she loved for years has decided to marry the daughter of a political ally in order to stabilise his own kingdom. He expects Latrasil to wait for him for five years and then he will divorce his bride and marry Latrasil. Seriously, what a selfish, arrogant toad!

But Latrasil’s life waits for no man and she is now empress of her own kingdom. And she decides to embrace her own historical customs and have a harem.

Not one man, but five.

And so begins her journey of navigating life, love and politics with not one man but five!

This is a great start to a series which is about political intrigue, love and the heart. Excellent characters, great artwork and a gripping story about breaking norms and forging a way forward for yourself in a world that expects you to conform. I really enjoyed this first volume.

This story is honestly pretty interesting, with plenty of room for political intrigue. However, the pace of this volume is all over the place, with multiple large timeslips. I understand that the story is trying to get to the premise of the larger story quickly, but it barely lays the groundwork. She's Emporer in a flash and the barest bones reason why she's constantly trying to get back at fellow Emporer who spurned her love for a political marriage. I'm honestly more curious about the potential political moves the consorts will be making in the future. I hope after this first volume the pace will smooth out and we will finally get some juicy bits. I do really like the art, though some panels are a little off with how hard it leans on 3D assets.

First I would like to thank NetGalley, the Author, the Artist and the publisher for this ARC.

...
This one intrigued me!
It's obvious from the start that there is more to the story than they let on.
We get some depth and background but I still believe there is so much more that still needs to be discovered.
I like the the reversed harem and the boss lady tropes that are part of the story.
Although "Klein" did get a bit on my nerves...
Also there is absolutely more to our FMC than they led on. She gives of "damsel in distress" and "teenage heartbreak" with some "villainess in disguise" vibes.
The art is on point with the story.
Some of the characters could use a bit more depth or growth, but we are early on in the story so I guess they will also progress with the story.

Looking forward to the second volume.

She's been betrayed. She's angry. And she wants revenge. What better way to make an ex-boyfriend jealous than requesting 5 bachelor's for your harem as Empress?

Latrasil is the newly crowned empress, and hell hath no fury because she's a strong willed, smart woman that knows what she wants. This first volume shows us how she gained the throne, and the favor, of the noble families. Now that she's somewhat settled, she's pressured by advisors to take an official royal consort. But to her- still angry as she was casted aside by a noble ex-boyfriend- she says "Why stop at 1? Every other man in power got as many concubines as they please." Thus reader's are thrusted into this historical romance from Empress Latasil's POV. 5/5 Stars.

Princess Latrasil of Tarium had waited for Prince Hyacinth of Karisen to return and claim her as his bride. But then she learned that he had ascended to the throne and taken a duke's daughter as his empress. Attending the royal wedding as the Tarium representative and heir, Latrasil turned down an offer from Hyacinth before returning to Tarium to fight for her throne when her father died suddenly. After defeating her brother, she became Empress Latrasil of Tarium. When pushed to name a royal consort, Latrasil decided to create a harem for herself. It will be interesting to see what sorts of men who would be willing to accept this position, but that will be revealed in full in the next volume!

Thanks Netgalley and Yen Press for the chance to read this title!

Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned!

After having her heart broken by the emperor of a foreign land, Latil vows to get a rather unusual revenge.
As newly crowned emperor Latil decrees that she wishes to have a hareem of her very own with five consorts. Miscommunication, loyalty and Betrayal are at the heart of Latils first six months in power and she must navigate both the political landscape and her heart.

Beautiful drawn in full colour what I thought was going to be a light hearted story is truelly so much more. Latil is equally powerful and feminine, her heart may have been broken but she really wants what's best for her nation. The political intrigue and plots only add to the depth of this saga elevating the drama beyond that of a basic reverse hareem romance.

Re-read from Webtoon days...

Love the concept of seeing a Empress (or female emperor) with a harem! It's pretty unique and is more political than I thought it was. There's not much to mention since it's the first volume of a series but so far the 2 consorts are pretty interesting as they have contrasting personalities. I wonder if the author will make the consorts will fight over affections or if they'll get along.

As for who's the male lead... there's no clear cut answer but I like the foreign male consort the most lol. He's pretty funny and cheerful so I think he'd be a nice pair with the fmc.

Can't wait for the first volume to be published and for the second one.
