4.25 stars ...
both for this book
and for the series.

This series has been a fast-paced, non-stop, action-filled ride ... no dull "filler" to be found, lean and intense! Exactly how I want my dystopian/zombie stories to be. This is much like the 'Enemy' (The Enemy) series by Charlie Higson. That series is a near-perfect 5 star ride ... this is a solid 4 star adventure. I would have preferred this to be a trilogy, with 2 breaks, rather than 6 novellas with 5 breaks ... but that's really nit-picking. I suggest going into this series with the intention of reading them straight through.

The characters ended well

I’m still curious about a few story lines and if the parasite was loosed on the rest of the population. Did James actually escape? I’d there was a tunnel with an escape plan and the infected were in the tunnel why didn’t they spread if that was the parasites ultimate purpose? Especially with its hosts dying. Some holes but I ultimately enjoyed it and most of the characters dying added some reality to the series. Not my favorite but interesting and unique I think.

I finished this series. Of course not everyone survives at the end. Shouldn't be a spoiler, because you know that can't happen. I will say those that survive, I'm happy with. I mean, out of all the characters they were some of my favorites. One other favorite, I'm sad to say, didn't survive. I somewhat anticipated it coming, but it was still sad nonetheless.

Overall, I think this was pretty fun. Was it always good...no. Were there some glaring story line issues? Yep. I despised some of the characters....Ben! But, I did have fun reading this. It kept me interested and I did chuckle a few times.

I think the most disappointing thing was...

This would be fun to buddy read with someone who isn't into taking things too seriously. I can imagine some lively discussions.

Ngl with how fucked up this series has been and how the last 50 pages just speed-ran killing EVERYONE I wasn’t expecting anyone to survive! Solid ending, but yeah this series could have EASILY been just the one long book. Glad the parasite was finally explained because fuck me that was frustrating as hell. Still a few too many plot holes to fully love the series but fun as hell if you’re down for disgusting gorey zombie schmuck.

Ending book 6 in the Infected City series with a bang! I have loved everything about this series. Amazing characters, the good and the bad. There were heartfelt moments that I was sad to lose. There were asshole characters that I'm so glad were ripped to shreds. I love that the author wrote about all the horrible things that are likely to happen during a zombie apocalypse without making me sick. Sometimes the regular human beings are worse than the infected. A great introduction to Boris Bacic's writing and I will be checking out his long form writing immediately.

All in all the series is a solid 3 stars and could have been put into three books instead of six.

Few of the characters were likable, a few slipups that somehow slipped through the editing cracks, but a good way to kill time in between customers at work during spooky week

“The parasite has either evolved, or something unforeseen has caused it to go apeshit. It controls its human hosts with the intention of spreading as much as possible.”

With their numbers dwindling faster, it's not shocking almost everybody has now intertwined with each other as their tales of survival make towards the end. Krista has practically gone mad at the prospect of saving her son Nelson, gone is humanity and consciousness, instead replaced with icy cold calculations. Angela and James made the mistake of ringing her doorbell, then eating the drugged food she presented them. As they fel unconscious, they would wake up tied up in the first bedroom as she announced her plans to feed them alive to her son. Interrupted by a knock on her door, she welcomes Ben inside who is quick to knock her out with a brick. Cheering at his own survival and chance to avenge Angela from the clock tower, he didn't pay attention to Nelson until he lost two fingers to him. Stabbed through the chest with a fire poked from Krista, she would die cradling her dead son in her arms as James and Angela made their escape.

“Toxoplasma gondii,” Daniel repeated. “A parasite that can only thrive in the intestines of felines. It infects rats and affects their brain somehow, mind-controlling them to allow themselves to be eaten by the cat. The parasite itself does not harm humans. There have been speculations that it can affect behavioral changes to a small degree, but there’s no evidence to support such claims. Most people live with it without even knowing they have it.”

Waking up in white clothing and locked inside a cell Pierce and Shepherd remain separated for weeks as they undergo experimental testing. Injected once a week with a serum alleging to slow down the parasites’s progression, they unknowingly were speeding up the advancement. Suffering horrible abdominal cramping, they both knew their time was coming to an end. Determined to keep this plague out of the rest of the world, Shepherd managed to break away and allow the infected inside the underground base. Armed with an explosive, they made it to the basement where they would detonate it in the generator. Feeling the effects, Shepherd sacrificed herself to the mission while Pierce fought one final battle with Reynolds. Meanwhile, Daniel is grieving the death of Melissa, as she quickly succumbed to the fever and infection. Tossing her body into the break room, he holds in his hands the key to the escape tunnel but has no intentions of using it. When James and Angela make it to Welco Labs, he recognizes her as the cleaner he got a job for and welcomes them inside. Using his own life as the sacrifice, he passes off the key and goes head to head with the infected to buy them some time. Reaching the hidden entry, Angela leaves herself on the outside as her eyes were already becoming bloodshot with the infection. Giving him the photographs of herself and her daughter, she makes him promise to go to her and give her the answers she can't anymore. Turning away, she's killed by infected as he makes the last legs of this journey alone. Coming out miles outside the city, he sets off to Salem in search of Riley.

What an ending. I never thought I’d get emotional over any form of zombie media, but here I am crying lmao.

I was pleasantly (and unpleasantly in one case 😑) surprised by a couple of twists that I didn’t see coming. I also enjoyed hearing the background of how everyone was originally infected before the outbreak started.

For the most part, I believe every character either met suitable ends based on their actions and behaviors, or their deaths helped shape the story. My heart hurts for Abigail, but it’s such a bittersweet feeling. I’m so happy she won the game 🥹

This has been such a fun series to listen to. The narrators were great, and the story translated well to audiobook format. I don’t mind at all that they are short, or novellas, because it gave me the creepypasta short story vibes I am always looking for. While a couple of the books were a little slow, overall they have been wonderful, and now I’ll be looking for more zombie books to jump into.

“There’s no cure.”

Sadly, the title is all too fitting here. This really strong series ends on much more of a whimper than a bang.

Daniel deals with a tragedy.

Heather and Abby make an escape (with assistance) from one bad situation.

Pierce regains consciousness. In a cell.

One of the originals survives City Hall, after all.

Damn…Krista…her attempts to sate Nelson thwarted, she makes a difficult decision. Tragically beautiful.

Out of nowhere, Pierce’s narrative takes a disappointingly abrupt left turn.

Daniel wallows in his guilt, then tells two survivors *everything.*

Super emotional.

My personal favorite character’s final POV chapter is heartbreaking.

Mr. Bacic is definitely channeling his inner Russell Davies in this one.

The author’s message at the end of the book is extremely disappointing. If that’s the “one thing” he took from the COVID pandemic…that’s very sad.

don’t waste your time, like I did

Ok, the first book was decent. The remaining 5, meh…
Poorly developed characters, typos, silly situations and cliche’ dialogue. The author should know how a cell phone operates(it’s not going to work when you win one in an arcade game). He also, incredibly enough, thinks that a car’s cruise control will work in Park, keeping the engine idling/revving high. He also takes a swipe at MAGA conservatives and demeans Christianity quite frequently. It’s amateurish stuff like this that makes this entire six book series a painfully difficult read. Only because they were “free “with Goodreads, did I finish the series, purely out of morbid curiosity to see how it would end - the ending was a joyful experience.

Rewarding

The ending was good enough to stop there but a whole other series could be created from it. I personally am very pleased with thjs read. When you look at it from other perspectives, what needed to happen was exactly what happened. It was well done. However if youre looking for an ending or events that are not predictable then you may be disappointed. Despite being able to tell how things were going to go down it was extremely enjoyable to read. I read this last book in a day even though I was a busy mom and wife, I couldn't quite put it down.

By now I've read probably 600 zombie/apocalypse type stories in the last year and a half. This one still had some aspects that I hadn't read before, and that's pretty rare.

What a wild ride this series was…. I need a better ending for James like what happened afterwards? Did he make it the daughter did her survive? Does he go after the state or hide … I need closure haha. As for the other characters broke my heart that they died. Not Ben or Andrew tho. Fuck them. POS. I feel for Abby she definitely had it hard and a complicated relationship with her sister. This was a fun series. The virus that is used in this story is a real virus that any of us could have and not know which is absolutely terrifying. And to think that something on this planet really could alternate humanity is such crazy ways is absolutely insane… and the CDC have a zombie apocalypse guide? wtf ….?

Excellent series! I was hooked from the get go

I started this series with high hopes, and thankfully, I wasn't let down. The ending wasn't exactly what I expected, but rooting for certain characters' survival in situations like this series depicts is oftentimes not all sunshine and rainbows. The only thing I didn't like was having to wait so long in between book releases. I kept jonesing for more, I needed my fix! Boris, please write more books like these. You're hella talented and I can't wait to see what else you have in store for your readers. Overall, 5/5 stars

This series just shows again that humans are the worst type of monsters, especially when they are in government and the military. This is one of the best zombie apocalypse series I've read, not because it breaks terribly many genre stereotypes, since it doesn't. But Boris Bacic's ability to create likeable, engaging characters is extraordinary and explains why he is one of my favourite authors. These characters felt alive to me and I felt every bit of their ordeals with them. This was a sick day in bed that was very well spent.

Not really six books

I waited to finish all six parts if this story before I wrote a review. It isn't really six books. It's more like one, maybe two books. The story is told from several different character points of view. I expected them to cross paths more than they did. The story is the result of a pharmaceutical /government experiment gone wrong. The writing is clunky in spots, with lots of cliches. There are better apocalyptic books out there. I wouldn't waste my time in this one.

This review is for this book and the series as a whole
Book one and book 6 were really good. Many of the books in between dragged a bit, even though they were short.

I really disliked a whole, in so many zombie books, as in this one, it’s the USA trying to weaponize a virus/ parasite/ illness/ disease. To me it destroys a lot of the story. And always means that not only are you fighting the zombies but can enormous pharmaceutical company and the world largest super power.

The very end was good

This last installment was great. Very emotional. Krista's story especially resonated with me, being a mother myself. Her last scene actually had me getting choked up because I couldn't help but imagine myself in that situation. Everyone had it rough but I can't imagine a worse reality than losing my child.

I do wish there had been a little more information on the aftermath but otherwise this was a really good conclusion to the story.

Infected City IS a must-have! Each series brings more doom within the city that will have you on edge and waiting for the outcome if they could survive it. Each character has its own story and I have to say, I love each and every one of them. The one I truly hate is, Ben. Ben...Ben ..Ben...I seriously hate him. I highly recommend many of you readers who enjoy zombies, get this one! Worth the read!

Excellent Series!!

This is one of the best virus/zombie series I've read in a while! I love that is follows different people who eventually connect. Its scary because this could happen. Maybe not zombies eating people but how selfish the "healthy" can be. What they do to survive and/or fulfill their needs. Boris Bacic you never disappoint! Thank you.

This series has been a great read. It is one of the best zombie, apocalypse, horror type stories. It is unique and very well written. Boris Bacic is a master story teller, comparable to the likes of Stephen King. I highly recommend all six stories of this incredible series, as well as all of his books.

Witherton in ruins

The once beautiful and peaceful town of Witherton is in ruins. The soldiers are ordered to annihilate everyone. The survivors are unaware of their ultimate plight. Will they find a way out or is their survival in vain? The finale is gripping and chilling. One of the best books I have read in this genre.

This was a fantastic series!! 6 books total and all were great. It follows the same story and characters as if it’s one big book. Starts at the onset of a pandemic and follows the sequence of events that follow for a few main characters. Really kept my attention! Fast paced with no slow down! If you are into zombies, then this series I would highly recommend you read!

This was a good series and I give it a 5 stars. The story ended well so book 6 gets 5 stsrs. It was exciting and fast paced. Like all apocalypse stories, everybody won't make it but some will. You'll have to read the series to find out for youself. Overall, the story was entertaining and kept me wanting more.

Great series!

This storyline was really good! It was different from your typical zombie apocalypse, and each book had me totally captivated. I had a hard time stopping reading and purchased the subsequent books right away. Definitely recommend this series, and I'm looking forward to reading more from this author.

I cared about some of the characters. Just a lot of fun. Great pace and great story. I’m sorry this isn’t longer and more well thought out. I’m in bed and won’t be awake much longer.

Loved the Characters

…except Ben. I hate Ben. Even Reynolds was an okay villain. Just a heart breaking story that maybe hits a bit close to home based on our collective experiences from the past few years. All we can do is hope that we do better.
