Wieman's reflections on private spiritual practice (including its relationship to private spiritual or mystical experience, and to participation in a community of faith) are groundbreaking for their separation of actual human religious experience from often confusing traditional religious vocabulary. I found valuable clarifications of my own experience and of traditional language - a step on the way to either reclaiming the language or expanding my capacity to appreciate it (a prerequisite to forming any adequate theology).
