A well explained book beginning with the atom and continuing on to complex compounds (as the name implies). Novice friendly since it assumes you know little-to-nothing about atoms and tugs you along as you climb the hierarchy into more complex atomic structures. This book is brief and doesn't go into a whole lot of details, but gives the reader a good overall picture of basic chemistry. A great book to learn the basics and definitely recommended.
