I have mixed feelings about this book, and honestly, I’m struggling to put them into words 😕.
I did enjoy the story, but not as much as I expected to. I think part of that is because I had very high expectations for Annika and Kenzo’s book after being introduced to them in Monstrous Urges.
The plot itself was great I found it entertaining, and I really loved the Yakuza mafia setting and the action throughout the story.
However, I didn’t quite connect with Annika. It’s hard to explain. She’s strong, independent, and brave, and I appreciated how she stood by Kenzo and helped him fight their enemies. That said, a lot of her inner thoughts and chapters felt cringey to me, to the point where I found myself rolling my eyes.
Kenzo, on the other hand, I absolutely loved. He’s a dangerous, possessive Yakuza boss plus, he fights with swords, which is an instant win 🙂↕️. I also really enjoyed his relationship with his siblings.
Overall, the book felt a bit too short for me. I wanted to see more development in Annika and Kenzo’s relationship. Their love seemed to bloom very quickly, and I would have liked more emotional depth more intimate moments and meaningful conversations that could have built their connection on a deeper level.

Emperor of Wrath is another addictive, all-consuming and dark mafia romance by the crazy talented Jagger Cole. And like before, Jagger just knows how to draw me in and keep me glued to the pages until I have finished his books.
The book starts with Annika crashing a mob party and together with Freya in her ears she tries to steal a valuable item. But when the safe opens it's empty and suddenly she gets dragged away by Kenzo. He drags her back into the room full of guests and introduces her as his fiance.
An hour before that happens Kenzo hears from his father and mentor that he must marry Annika to avoid a war between the two mob families. Kenzo hates that he must marry her. But he is also fascinated. Five years ago she seduced him but before anything happened she drugged him and stole his dead mother's necklace. Ever since he is hell bent on revenge.
And he tells her that. He growls in her face that she will become his in every single way. He will dominate her, use her, make her his completely.
But feisty and strong willed Annika isn't easily pushed in one direction and stands up to him. I love their push and pull. I love how much they yearn each other's touch. How they surprise the other one with their touch. Their chemistry shines so brightly. I love how their love is all consuming. And how far they are willing to go for the other one.
But this isn't just a story about an intense love story. It's also a story about how the past is hunting you down. And how people are easily swayed so that your loved ones turn out to be in danger. I love the mixture of excitement, cruelty, passion, vindication and love.

The constant dirty talk got old fast, and their love felt like it bloomed a bit too quickly. I was craving more intimate moments that would build their connection on a deeper level.
The action-packed plot and mafia intrigue kept me glued to the pages, and Jagger Cole’s signature possessive MMCs and spicy scenes made it a page-turner. I devoured this book at lightning speed! ⚡📚
That said, the recurring kidnapping and hostage situations are starting to feel a bit repetitive. I was hoping for a fresh take, but the same old tropes kept making an appearance. Despite this, I enjoyed the book and raced through it. I’m giving it 3.8 stars for its gripping plot and strong characters but would love to see more emotional depth in future books. 🌟

So, my first MF romance written by a man. It certainly was an experience, but it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be!
It has been a long time since I liked a FMC this much in a mafia romance. Annika was really fun, and I loved how she stood her grounds in an unfamiliar setting. We need more strong FMC like her, seriously!
However, I didn't vibe with Kenzo. I don't know how to explain it. His protective side was hot, but that's it? I appreciate that the author didn't write him as a promiscuous man, though.
Kenzo and Annika's relationship seemed to be based mainly on sex. I didn't see them truly bond together, apart from the end where they both saved each other.
To be honest, the highlight of this book is probably the found family between the characters, which was very well written. I love the Mori siblings, and Annika and Freya's friendship was really cute.
So, it wasn't a bad book by any means, but I don't think this author works for me. His writing style wasn't my cup of tea: too much sentences in italics, or words in capital letters, and, of course, excessive punctuation. When it's repetitive, it tends to throw me off.
Will I read the following books? I don't know. I'm kinda intrigued by Hana and Damian, I must say. Essentially because Damian is described as a blond psycho, and thoses are my favorite kind of MMC.

One thing he is freaking EXCEPTIONAL at? Writing the most possessive MMCs with the filthiest mouths. He gives the best one liners and banter between characters. It’s just insane how he never fails to impress. In addition, the plot to spice ratio is always 10/10 perfection 👌🏼

It was interesting in the beginning, but then everything got rushed into empty "I love you"s and it was so hard to finish right after I crossed the first half. The only good change I appreciated was the talk about Japan and imagining a different scenery and different values in the Yakuza, which was a fresh change.

What did we learn today, kids? Two things, actually.
One: if someone crosses you, don’t give them the benefit of the doubt, because it will come back to bite you harder.
Two: if you decide to end them (as you should, unless it’s a hot chick, then marry them instead, but if it’s some old, obnoxious dude - go for it), make sure they REALLY are ended. It can be easily achieved by severing their head from the rest of their body. That should do the trick. People often have an inconvenient tendency to possess a survival instinct, so almost ending them and hoping for the best is simply not enough.
If only our main characters learned those lessons, this book would be much shorter. Possibly less entertaining, but oh well. Hopefully, in the end they learned their lesson for future reference. Fingers crossed!
Nevertheless, it was a really good beginning to another series. I like all the side characters that were introduced here and I’m excited about their own love stories.
Except, those are not really love stories, now, are they?
No, unfortunately Jagger Cole still didn’t learn how to make his characters fall in love. He has lust figured out, but that’s it. So, just as in his every other book, the mcs keep going at it until suddenly the author announces that from now on, they’re in love. When did they have a time to build an emotional connection, when they barely ever talked (and no, dirty talk doesn’t count), beats me.
Anyway, the found family vibes and the banter are strong with this one, so as long as you accept that lust magically turns to love in Jagger Cole’s world, you can really enjoy it. And I totally do.
In fact, the author romanticizes mobster life to the point you’re almost sad you weren’t born into one, because it sounds fun. Well, at the top of the penthouse, of course. Go big or go home.

Nevertheless, it was a really good beginning to another series. I like all the side characters that were introduced here and I’m excited about their own love stories.
Except, those are not really love stories, now, are they?
No, unfortunately Jagger Cole still didn’t learn how to make his characters fall in love. He has lust figured out, but that’s it. So, just as in his every other book, the mcs keep going at it until suddenly the author announces that from now on, they’re in love. When did they have a time to build an emotional connection, when they barely ever talked (and no, dirty talk doesn’t count), beats me.
Anyway, the found family vibes and the banter are strong with this one, so as long as you accept that lust magically turns to love in Jagger Cole’s world, you can really enjoy it. And I totally do.
In fact, the author romanticizes mobster life to the point you’re almost sad you weren’t born into one, because it sounds fun. Well, at the top of the penthouse, of course. Go big or go home.

First DNF in a long time. Made it to 52% and my god I was bored to tears.
I had no patience for Annika and her secrets and Kenzo and his lack of personality. They are just so boring when they have all the makings to be incredibly interesting. They both just fell flat.
This just wasn’t for me.

Jagger Cole is the king of “I hate you but I lust for you and I’m struggling to come to terms with that…”
Seriously! I adore all of Jagger’s books in this world. Kenzo and Annika have history and she suddenly finds herself strapped with a wedding ring on her finger to the dominant and broody Yakuza male. Neither are thrilled about the situation but they also are in awe of each other, not that they’d admit that.
Kenzo plans on entering this marriage with all the benefits of a couple and Annika plans on making it as difficult on him as she can. But Kenzo is hard to resist and Annika finds her calm with him even when she’s spitting venom.
These two have so much chemistry and the steam is boiling lobster. Kinky and punishing, it’s also passionate and endearing.
But Annika has a past that will try and tear her down and them apart and it will take everything to keep her safe and for them to get their HEA. Kenzo has no plans of letting her go and wants to be her rock through it all.
I love the twists and turns in here and the emotional punch these two brought out. The banter was amazing since we do get some serious notes in here. Kenzo was the typical possessive bulldozing male that I love in my romance. He was also so “mine” and “can’t live without you” and it had me swooning. SWOONING. Annika had a mouth on her and I found myself laughing several times. She was strong and didn’t back down. Ever. But the way she gave up control to Kenzo was hotttttt.
I can’t wait for what’s next as usual. If you’re into super spicy dark romance with alpha males that take what they want and females with a backbone of steel this is your story! Loved it!

Jagger is one of those authors that I trust blindly. If he writes it, it's an automatic download. He has delivered yet again in this new series. Jagger never fails to gives us a fantastic plot with twists and turns and spice hot enough to make even the most seasoned romance readers blush.
This is an enemies to lovers & arranged marriage romance between two rival mafia families. Kenzo and Annika have a history and it's not a pleasant one. Kenzo is out for revenge but a wrench gets thrown in his plans. He must now marry the woman he was set to destroy.
Annika is a survivor. She has done what is necessary to stay alive. She has made a few mistakes in her life, one being stealing and drugging Kenzo Mori. Now he's out for blood... and he would have succeeded except now they are man and wife. Evil from Annika's past threatens her new life, but Kenzo has found himself wanting to protect her. He is willing to burn the world for her.
This book was packed with tension and the a possessive mmc that you can always count on in a book written by Jagger Cole. This story also gives us Annika who is fiercely independent and can stand on her own two feet. I love a strong fmc!

The "love story" is pretty basic and there's nothing new happening as the couple's character development, love declaration thrown just like that, no sense at all.
As for the plot, yes, it's quite captivating and one thing you can be sure about JC book are the multiple plot-twists (one too many let's not get excessive pls) that keep the story going.
At this point I'm reading this series just for it 💅
OHH! the Kyoto setting was fun and new, so there's that. I just wanted to read a little more about the cultural setting within the lines.

My first dark mafia romance book written by a man. I binged it, but something felt like it was missing, although I enjoyed the story enough. I didn't particulary like the language, and deffo check out the trigger warnings for this book. Also I think I missed some more depth to the characters. So mixed emotions. But I'm be continueing the series, and see if it develops for me.

Jagger did the damn thing, AGAIN👏 Of course he did.
This book got me out of a two week reading slump. I devoured it. I absolutely loved Kenzo&Annika. Enemies to lovers is my FAVORITE trope. Kenzo HATES Annika. She got to him in a weak moment 5 years ago, and he’s finally found her and wants revenge. But plans change quickly when they have to get married to keep peace between their families.
Annika is a total bad ass. I really loved her character. She didn’t take shit from anyone. She always spoke her mind.
Kenzo was everything I want in a jealous, possessive MMC. The banter between these two was hilarious.
Oh and of course, spice is spicing, y’all. It’s so good, so filthy. Kenzo is dirty as hell, but man does he love so hard too. I love it when they hate each other at first but you see their chemistry that they can’t help but have evolve and feelings grow.
This book had such a good plot. When you think things have calmed down, shit hits the fan all over again.
I can’t wait to read Mal’s book next!

Definitely a lot of action & drama & not short of spice, that’s for sure. But did I love it? Not really. Will I read Mal’s story aka book 2 & the rest that might follow? Most likely.
I felt like the spice was very repetitive with the dialogue between the two. Granted, there’s only so much you can say during the deed, but still, it was a little redundant which in turn, kind of made me lose interest.
The storyline was good. It kept me engaged & entertained but nothing to knock my socks off. I felt like when Kenzo fell in love with her, it was sudden. We had 2 chapters of them going back & forth & technically not really getting along to, I’ve fallen in love with her. I know there were moments where you can tell Kenzo was easing up on her & it was obvious that he was going to fall first, but still, it was just sudden & then sex sex sex.
Annika is a clever little thief. Kenzo is a hottie mafia king. But other than that, there wasn’t much depth to their characters. Ok, Annika had a little more depth with her sassiness but that’s about it.

This book was a pleasant surprise. 4/5 ⭐️ and 3.5/5🌶️ on the spicy scale. Chanced upon this book in my recs so I decided to give it a try and I am very pleased to report that it did not disappoint.
The dynamic between Annika and Kenzo had me on the edge of my seat. Both of them are very headstrong characters and are so protective of the people they care about. Their interactions are electrifying and so intense at times, I found myself holding my breath. The side characters are also such a treat to read about and made me look forward to seeing them more as well.
This was a really good enemies to lovers story with twist and turns and the spice definitely delivered. Super happy with how this turned out ✨

I'm having mixed emotions about this book, but I know the problems are with me.
I loved everything but her...... I didn't hate her all of the time. I hated all the secrets and lies. I hated how long they lasted.
Every time I started reading I was ready to finish the book and see how it ends. Then she would annoy me and I would have to stop.
Now, the struggle..... Do I continue and pray that the next book is different, or do I just quit. Not sure. I might give it a go.
Like I said, I loved all the characters (accept Annika when she was lying), the storyline, and the writing. But I seriously just can't stand the nonstop lying. I need my characters to trust each other.
