the relationship was highly underdeveloped and the way he treated her knowing she was traumatized was awful. locking a girl you barely know in your apartment with a random guy she doesn’t know “guarding” her is a bad idea regardless of any trauma she held. Not to mention he becomes so angry he punches the wall next to her? He never actually apologizes or takes accountability and it’s all chalked up to him being her mate so it’s fine. WTF

"I realize that this was where I belonged with Jill. Nowhere else. How was I crazy enough to think I could avoid her? She was my everything. My mate."

"I'm comfortable with you and like anyone else. Not to mention I'm not complete without you."

Thanks to a close friend Jill is saved from someone from her past. Jill moved to a new town where she meets Luc. Luc instantly feels a connection but tries to push her away.

Luc and Jill slowly start to come closer together and It's such a sweet bonding moment. They both come to realize that they mean something to each other.

I enjoy this fast read The plot was great and it didn't end up on any loose ends. Saved by the Wolf is definitely something you want to read.

I would have given it five stars if it was a tad longer. It seemed to have been rushed towards the end.

Don’t waste your time with this book

H-Luc
h- Jill
This story is definitely not good- I did not like it. I kept reading thinking things might change but sadly it didn’t. Stopped at chapter 20 (63%)
So we have Jill who finally has ended her imprisonment by her ex boyfriend Rich. Rich mentally & physically abused her & the only friend she talks to on the phone which was 2x a mth was her best friend Becca. All the characters in this book where just plain dumb. Let me give you some examples.
1-So after being free for 1 wk from her imprisonment & with the help of Becca, her decided to force her to go to a party- which was very dumb, Jill repeatedly told her “no, that she is not ready to party” her friend (who should want the best for you) said she is ready & is going to the party. Jill felt that since her friend helped her escape that she will go to the party as like a “thank you” I’m guessing. 🙄
There at the party I she got some type of panic attack & fainted. Now the friend has guilt & apologies for forcing to do something she is not ready & promised to listen.
2- The nxt day the same friend “invites” her yet again to another party- this time is a masquerade party & once again Jill didn’t listen to her instant & decided to go with Becca (with the excuse that Becca “saved” her)
3- At the party Rich was there & was ready to kidnapped her, she ran free from him & instead of finding her friend- she decided to just beg someone to take her home.
Now we have the other dumb character Luc. His wolf kept telling him Jill is his fated mate- but of course he feels that is wrong since he though his ex was his fated mate- which raise a very good question- wouldn’t your wolf tell you the ex was his mate- they don’t mention anything abt the wolf saying abt his ex being fated mate. But regardless he tries to stay away & ignore his mate bond
Examples of Luc being dumb
1- failing to listen to his wolf abt his fated mate
2- Leaving her alone to go to the masquerade party EVEN though he had a bad feeling abt it, he let her go on her own.
3- Finally accepting she is his fate mates- he still acts stupid & treat her like a prisoner & doesn’t tell her exactly why he is doing.
Other dumb characters:
Becca- h best friends- is in love with Brandon who is Luc’s brother & even tho they flirt, he still ignores his wolf again & keep Becca in the “friend” zone. So Becca is really quick to push her best friend who recently got out of a 3yr relationship, she is pushing Jill to give Luc a chance but can’t take her own advised. Brando-Luc’s brother is also a mess.
This is really really not a good story.!

------

I loved seeing how integrated the wolf shifters are into the human world. They are portrayed to be akin to humans but just with a little more... feral personality (and having a wolf). The lack of information about how the wolf shifters live their lives made the entire "wolf shifter community" emit this mysterious aura and I was excited to learn more about their world. However, this also came at a disadvantage as some scenarios felt a little disconnected from the story because the readers were not given anything to refer to on why/how such scenarios could occur. How do these wolves function? Do they communicate with each other like how wolves do in the wild or do they have a mental connection where they relay messages across? Do they all live in the same area/compound or do they have individual homes? What traditions do they have? How did their kind come about? So many questions but no clear answers.

Jill was still healing from her abusive relationship and these physical and mental scars were clearly highlighted in both her choices and words. I loved that most of the people she met in the new town were also trying their best to help her move on from her past and face her new future. This is just my own personal preference because I understand that recovering from this sort of situation takes a long time to do so but I was hoping that I could witness Jill achieving milestones no matter how big or small they were. I felt that seeing her grow out of her safety cocoon would have made the story even more emotional and heartwarming. One of the things that I did enjoy seeing was how Luc was portrayed appear as this intimidating, handsome muscled guy when he and his wolf was melting internally at the very sight of Jill alone. I enjoyed watching how Luc may act like this gruff man but his gentle actions and reactions towards Jill were the total opposite of his image.

The ending felt rushed and left me hoping for more only to be disappointed that the story already ended after the gradual buildup of events towards the climax of the book. Had these loose ends been cleared and wrapped up nicely, the ending would have felt more satisfying and leave readers wanting to know more in the next book. Nevertheless, this book was entertaining and I enjoyed reading it.

A Romance with Shifting Secrets

First of all, I’d like to thank Booksirens and Nola li Gordon for the provided ARC for an honest review.

Star rating ⭐⭐⭐
Spice rating 🌶️

"Saved by the Wolf" is a shifter romance novel that includes the insta-love and fated mate tropes. It provided an enjoyable and fast-paced reading experience. While it may not be considered a literary masterpiece, if you're seeking an effortless read where the main character effortlessly receives everything she needs, then this book is perfect for you.

I found Luc and his family to be endearing, although somewhat oblivious to potential dangers. The author didn't accurately portray the territorial and threat-sensing behavior of wolves. Wolves don't simply ignore unfamiliar scents; they rely heavily on their sense of smell in various aspects of their lives.

Moreover, there was minimal character development for both Luc and Jill. Everything seemed to conveniently fall into place for Jill, from her apartment and job to her new romantic partner. Although she had a traumatic past with her ex-boyfriend, it didn't feel entirely realistic. Luc's family had no real knowledge of Jill, apart from occasional mentions of Becca. It begs the question of where one can find such generous people in our often toxic world. Witnessing Jill's personal growth and her ability to attain all of these achievements independently would have been truly more gratifying.

Considering Jill's recent escape from an abusive relationship, the bond formed between her and Luc felt somewhat forced due to their connection. Instead, the romance was based on instant attraction rather than a gradual buildup, which I personally prefer, appreciating the struggles that come with it.

The ending of the book was disappointing. It would have been better if the story had a more satisfying and complete ending. The fast-paced plot made the book exciting and enjoyable, but it didn't allow for important things to be resolved or surprising events to happen. A stronger and deeper ending would have made the reading experience even better, leaving readers feeling satisfied and excited about what might happen in future books.

A Refreshing Take on Shifter Romance!

Saved by the Wolf: A Sweet Paranormal Romance (The McCullough Pack Book 1) offers a delightful and refreshing take on the shifter romance genre. As a reader who enjoys heartwarming stories with captivating characters, I was completely hooked from beginning to end.

The story revolves around Jill, a woman healing from a difficult past, and Luc, a wolf shifter who has sworn off love.

The characters in this book are beautifully portrayed. I found Jill's nature incredibly relatable, and her strength in overcoming her past is inspiring.

The author has crafted a sweet romance that is filled with tenderness and genuine affection.

The plot is well-paced, keeping me engaged with its twists and turns. While I won't spoil anything, I can assure you that the story is captivating and filled with surprises. The author expertly weaves together the paranormal elements and the emotional journey of the characters, creating a seamless and satisfying narrative.

For fans of shifter romance, Saved by the Wolf is a must-read. Even if you're familiar with the genre, this book offers a refreshing take that focuses on the power of love, healing, and second chances. It explores the depths of human emotions and the primal instincts of shifters, resulting in a captivating blend that will leave you craving for more.

I wholeheartedly recommend Saved by the Wolf to anyone who enjoys sweet paranormal romance. Prepare to be swept away by this heartfelt tale and embrace the enchantment of the McCullough Pack series.

The story moves fast, maybe a little too fast; I wouldn't have minded some more details on how wolf shifter society works and all that. What are the benefits and drawbacks of being wolf vs. human? What drives the conscious decision to change forms, or is it unconscious? Are there any challenges with concealing their forms, any fear/danger of being found out? Why are the shifters behind continuing the masquerade party tradition?
Giving the town a name would be a nice touch. I don't think it was ever named, just mentions of "the town". Give it some life! It needs a name. Same with "the hospital".
Why didn't Jill wake up when Luc was breaking her car windows? Was she actually unconscious? Her injuries sounded really bad when he got her out of the car, but no one at the party noticed? Maybe the bruises hadn't had time to appear. But I was expecting to find out Rich had followed her and beat her again in the car.
Jill tells Luc she doesn't drink, but she had been drinking wine earlier in the story.
There was a lot of bloodshed and killing in the final confrontation - the police are going to be looking for the responsible party. Jill and the shifters didn't seem to be doing anything to conceal themselves, and I imagine detectives would link them to the scene, and they would be under suspicion.

Saved by the Wolf is a good book. I enjoyed the characters. The author did a good job in building the characters. Jill had been through trauma and was getting her life back. The author did an excellent job in portraying her emotions and responses to the trauma. Luc, was coming out of a failed relationship and had some issues of his own. The secondary characters were fun and made me want to know more about them and hope for more stories with them.

The ending of the book was where I had some issues. It seemed a little rushed. The emotions and trauma that had been built up the entire book were suddenly tied up and the romance accepted by both for a hea. It seemed like the author rushed to tie everything up to finish the book. The addition of Luc's father and his actions towards the villain of the story left me a bit perplexed. I hope the next books further explain the father and villain storyline and why he reacted very differently to the villain than the rest of the family.

Overall a good quick read. It was entertaining and I liked the characters and the world the author created.

🌶 1/5

This book has very good bones. I just really wish it had more depth and explored the characters more. I left this book wishing the chapters were more fleshed out; we just had more of everything. I needed more backstory, more description, more character introspection, more shifters, more tension. I'll probably try some of Nola's other books because I do like the idea of this story; I just felt it was lacking in depth.

My rating system:

Several explicit scenes, a variety of adventurous acts, dotted throughout the book.

I lost some sleep in the reading of this book as I could not put it down! This story involves a family of wolf shifters. It is sweet, steamy and has some great side characters.

Jill is a human who has been abused by her ex-boyfriend. Her friend Becca has helped her escape him and found her a place to stay and a job thanks to her co-worker, Brandon.

Luc is a wolf shifter who thought he had found his mate and she left him. He thinks he has lost his opportunity at a life mate until a human woman moves into his apartment building and causes him to have feelings that he resists until she is in danger from her ex. He also has several brothers, including Becca's co-worker Brandon. His care of and for Jill made me sigh.

I also loved his grandmothers and parents and hope to see more of them in the next book.

I would have liked to know a little more about the brothers and the dynamic with his family especially this connection he has with his grandmother, Miti. I also felt like the ending was a little rushed but having said that I LOVED this story.

Luc and Jill's Story . . .

In this storyline, we have two people, each resisting the pull toward the other because of a bad previous relationship. But Fate will not be thwarted when the two are mates. Jill is drawn to Luc, but after an abusive relationship, she is still healing from visible bruises left by her crazy possessive ex-boyfriend Rich. And the way she notices how Luc’s friends do everything he says reminds her also of her controlling ex. Why does she want Luc so much? She would be much better off staying out of relationships completely, right?

Luc is aware that Jill is human. But his wolf insists that he claim her, despite how he was hurt in his last relationship. Will he listen to his wolf and take a chance on love? Or will he allow a bad experience to hold him back from whatever is drawing him toward her?

Turned me into a fan of this genre!

I’ll just come right out and say it… I don’t normally read paranormal novels. But I took a chance on this new author and series, and I’m a convert! I found myself kicking my feet to stay awake as I had to know what happened next, reading this book late into the night! The author built up the tension and suspense with an element of mystery that kept me hooked, trying to guess where it was going.

The characters, even though shifters, were still very “human” in that they had flaws and were vulnerable. And the main protagonist, Jill, had her share of baggage—which made it more realistic and relatable for me. Not all heroines are super strong warriors. I also enjoyed the fact that there was no vulgar language or steamy scenes. I am a fan! And I can’t wait for the next book in the series!

3.5 stars / sweet romance

Jill was in an abusive relationship, and Luc has had his heart broken. I have a few questions about that if this is a "fated mate" situation, how was he in love? The story was good, but honestly, I wondered about the heroine a time or two. She allows herself to be pushed into situations by her bestie so as to not disappoint her. A good bestie would have (1) given her time to recover, and (2) known not to put her in dangerous situations just because she wanted something with someone else. Overall, enjoyable, although the heroine really needed her head checked.

I do not usually reach for shifter romance and picked this up as the cover model looked east Asian. Jill is Taiwanese and just left her abusive boyfriend, a wolf shifter. With the help of her friend who is a lawyer, Becca, she loves to a small town and lives at the compound Brandon (a lawyer friend of Becca’s) recommends.

Luc meets Jill and is instantly drawn to her but fights it because of his past.

The writing felt juvenile and the characters like from a YA novel then adult. The hero has a bad temper and throws, breaks, hit, slams, stomps around alot and shouts. He was immature as the oldest brother in the family.

I did like the people of colour rep as Luc's grandmother is Taiwanese too. The idea of all the family members even the grand mothers being able to transform into wolves was awesome to read. It was sweet when he takes Jill to her small restaurant and she makes beef noodles soup for them, later she makes duck soup, tapioca dessert and green onion cookies.

I finished it, but I won't be continuing the series. For the most part, you wouldn't even realize this is supposed to be a shifter book as that aspect is hardly ever used. The storyline was meh and the relationship building was practically non-existent. His dad also sucks as a character.

Jill is freshly saved by her friend from an abusive ex who literally locked her in the house, she couldn't leave without him, she couldn't talk to anyone else except for occasional monitored calls with her friend Becca, and would beat her. Right after this she meets Luc who doesn't believe his wolf instincts that she's his fated mate and tries to fight his attraction. Then after he sees she was in danger he locks her up and places her under guard which she of course forgives him for as soon as she is free and it is just swept under the rug.

Saved by the Wolf is the first book in the McCullough Pack series. And described as a fated mates shifter romance that has All the love without the spice, and a happily ever after. so i went in to this expecting a cozy feeling romance.I did enjoy this book . I liked the main characters and it was nice to read about Luc and Jill as they got to no each other but I especially the friendship between Jill and Becca the plot was fast paced easy to read and did not end on a cliffhanger which I appreciated I did feel like the plot has a few weak points but they did not spoil my reading experience although I did found my self thinking why at a few points

Thank you very much to booksirens for letting me read a free ARC of this book this is my honest review

Saved By The Wolf

3 Stars

I enjoy a good paranormal romance. This book is just OK. They're large plot holes, places that lack purpose which distract from the overall story. The incomplete ending really left me unsatisfied. Mr. Big BadGuy wasn't caught, which left me disappointed, and robbed me of a conclusion.

Am I supposed to ignore all these issues because they're a couple? I'm not sure.

Overall, this book wasn't a great fit for me. I would have enjoyed this book more if the characters were more three-dimensional, had a mature male lead, some world-building, and a functional plot. I'm disappointed.

Saved by the Wolf is pretty good. There are some plot holes but I really enjoyed the direction of the story and the characters. Luc is still getting over an ended relationship and Jill is trying to move on from an abusive one when they find each other. Their instant connection is sweet without being cliche. The ending really sold it for me. Even though it was a bit rushed, it really tied everything together.

I really would have liked if the author had explained what happened to Luc’s sister and how Jill was connected. A more detailed and drawn out ending would have been awesome as well!

I will definitely recommend this one to those who love werewolves and fated mates. I’m looking forward to the next book in the series.

In "Saved by the Wolf," Nola Li Gordon masterfully weaves a gripping story of wolf shifters, delving into the intricate dynamics of mates, family, and the unyielding support of friends. The visceral violence that underpins their world adds a thrilling edge to the narrative, leaving readers on the edge of their seats. With a balance of tender romance and heart-pounding action, this book offers a compelling exploration of the bonds that hold these powerful beings together. A must-read for fans of paranormal romance and supernatural thrillers. A great read. I can’t wait to read about Becca and Brandon ( I’m assuming that is a future book).

Jill and Luc's story made for a page-turning read. More than just a well-written story with wonderful characters, I love stories with family drama but everyone still loves each other in the end. I love sweet slow-burn romance stories with high stakes and no spice. I love fictional hunks with flaws and baggage. I love determined heroines dealing with trauma or other significant life event. I love connecting stories that can be read as standalone. And I love found family.

Gordon masterfully weaves all the elements I love in her series debut, Saved by the Wolf, which kept me reading late into the night. Highly recommend if you love these too!

Can't wait for the sweet friends-to-lovers sequel, Loved by the Wolf!

I enjoyed this latest book in the author's wolf shifter series. This time, Jill (a non-shifter) has just broken free from an abusive, controlling boyfriend (or has she?)

Moving to an apartment in a remote town surrounded by dense woodland, she's instantly attracted to the hunky Luc, who lives down the hall with his brothers. But little does she know he's a wolf shifter. Are the two incompatible? Will she reject him when she discovers his true nature? And is her deranged ex really out of the picture for good?

There's lots to like in this second outing in the series. The would-be lovers face huge obstacles, and danger lurks in the shadows. Fans of shifter fantasy/romance should enjoy this well-written novel. And there's more to come as the series continues!

this deserved 5 stars but the last 2 chapters just fail the book

I love it so so so much actually. I never found werewolves book that’s of high quality in Kindle. Unfortunately, the last 2 chapters just crumble down the entire plot that has been amazing. Not only the main antagonist is not even dealed yet in this book, but also the finalization of the love between the lead characters are too numbing, like I don’t feel their love at all after such plot is built up and after such kidnapping. I’m sad because everytime a book is about to hit that 5 stars, I always end up disappointed with how it’s being ended.

I tried, gave up at 60%. But I’m sorry she’s upset with him for “standing her up” AND NOT THE FACT HE WHOLE ASS LOCKED HER UP LESS THAN A MONTH AFTER SHE ESCAPED AN ABUSIVE EX. Bro what. I guess points for a trauma ridden person making more mistakes and falls in line with them ending up in another abusive relationship I guess but like… yo I don’t think they’d stay if someone locked them up before even making out. She’s a human not a wolf and all of the pack dynamics is lost on her… so why does she not see they’re a gang like her ex basically?? Well, she sees it and says how similar they are, hears them trap her on his orders and call him boss… but suuuuuure Luc is differentttttt but idk why

For a first book, this one grabbed my interest very early on, as I love shifter fantasy novels. I am already waiting for the continuation of the series.. It is a clean, safe for young readers as no on page sex scenes, little if any foul language that I recalled reading in it, which is sometimes a rarity in the shifter fantasy world most times.

Most times, I hardly look at new authors or new books unless the cover grabs my attention, and the write up blurb provided by the author draws me in, and this one did both. Well worth the read..

This book is about Jill who has been through a terrible ordeal with her ex boyfriend. Her best-friend Becca is the best-friend we all want! Supportive but pushing her when she needs to! Luc and his wolf-shifter family have their own skeletons but there is a HEA. I read this in one sitting as I wanted to know what happened next. A fast moving storyline and I still want to know more, about Jill and Luc but also about Brandon and Becca!

This book was totally awesome and enjoyable. I love me a good shifter story and to be honest this charmed me from the blurb to the entire story. There was suspence and I enjoyed ever bit of the mystery and reactioon between the characters. The story is filled with romance - the sweet kind, no spice. Definitely a page turner and was entertaining as well. Definitely recommend. Looking forward to the next book.

I really wanted to like this story, but, it was a little slow to get started and I feel this book was more of a young adult novel. A couple kisses on the head just didn't make me feel that Jill and Luc were in love. Jill has a lot of issues with a previous boyfriend relationship which was a terrible situation to be in, but I think the author dwelled a little to much on the past and not enough with the present day love between Luc and Jill.

This was a wonderful book. Lots of action and danger but lovely ending. I felt for Jill so much she went thru so much to get to where she was. Luc was so stoic to start not wanting more heartbreak. When they finally got together there was so much love and joy and Luc was so wonderfully caring and gentle. I read that the author wanted to write books that she would be able to share with her children in the future and this book definetly fits the bill.
