Is your church truly welcoming to all of God's children? Many churches are unintentionally exclusive toward people whose brains work differently. Blessed Minds: Breaking the Silence About Neurodiversity helps churches embrace the gifts of neurodiversity and become a place of belonging for all.
In this book, you will learn: • What neurodiversity is (and isn't). • How to create a neuroinclusive worship experience. • Practical tips for welcoming neurodivergent families. • Theological insights into neurodiversity as part of God's good creation. • Stories of neurodivergent ministers and their callings.
This book has opened my eyes to my vast misunderstanding of the nature of neurodiversity. I particularly benefitted from the author's personal experiences and deep dive into all the differing aspects of this multivariable issue. The chapters on ableism and stigma, and intersectionality; how multiple -isms can interact, (e.g. racism, sexism and ableism) to magnify the difficulty of dealing with brains that might behave differently. The biggest lesson is to involve neurodiverse individuals and their loved ones into any planning that affects them.
This is a challenging book that will help congregations think differently about who is included in the body of Christ. There is lots of practical guidance for churches who want to be more inclusive of those with neurodivergence as well as fresh theology to think about what it means to be made in the image of God.
