Megatron Loric Manfield is the definition of perfect imperfection. He knows who he is and whose he is. He not scared to love; he just knows that when it comes along, he wants it to be God sent. When the right woman comes along, he will fall in line to receive his favor.
Ruth Lindsay Gordon is saved, sheltered, and suffocated. Being a preacher’s kid is never easy and even harder when the preacher sometimes reverences himself more than the God he claims to serve. Desperately, she wants to be released from the hold that is her father, so she prays for God to send her Boaz.
They say be careful what you pray for. You just might get more than what was anticipated. What happens when instead of sending Boaz, God sends a Mega Man?

Mel, you just came to show out with this one huh? Chile….. this read was everything! I didn’t know that I could smile, laugh, frown, and be pissed all at the same time though. Cause this here took me through some thangs.
Miss Ruth is a sweet person, who is more than sheltered by her pastor father. He had an invisible leash on the poor woman at TWENTY-EIGHT YEARS OLD! He was mean, verbally abusive, and put a fear in her that she wouldn't allow her to speak up for herself. She couldn’t do anything except work at the family restaurant, go to church, and go home. She was living with her parents by the way too. Ughhh… 😤 She tries to abide by her father’s rules as best she can, but it is becoming tiresome, and the rebellion is coming to the surface. Thank God for her mother who allows her to be her own woman. Well, as much as pastah allows.
Mega! 😍 Whew! When I found out he worked for the Christianson’s you knew what type of time he was on. However, there was so much more to this man. Although he was a lil rough around the edges, he was intelligent, fearless, a bit unhinged, but loveable. He said that he would know when he found his one. When out dining one night he sees Ruth, and hears big G say “her”, and the fun begins. This man was not playing about Ruth at all, and anybody could get it, especially the good pastah. He claimed Ruth as his wife from the moment he met her, until it came to fruition. The way Mega “courted” Ruth and broke her down was sweet, yet hilarious at the same time. This man was nuts for real, for real. Pulling his gun out in church, and spewing bible verses at the same time. 👀😂
Now Miss Ruth was intrigued by this man, but why her? She couldn’t deny his good looks, but with his foul mouth, and violent tendencies, could this be the man God sent her? She better get with the program cause Mega is not taking no for an answer.
I loved how Miss Naomi bossed up when her husband, the good pastah, led her to her breaking point. Sis pulled out all the stops, aired that dirty laundry, and left him out to hang! Pastor Gordon hid behind his title and was the most hypocritical character I’ve seen in a minute. And that damn Josie, I knew it was something about her but damn, they had all that going on?
Mega helped pull Ruth out of her shell and grow into the woman she was always meant to be. While Ruth gave Mega the love and companionship he craved. Read this one ya’ll. You will not be disappointed. 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
Megatron Manfield is the definition of pressure! As he says he is dramatic AF and for the sh*ts. Mega does everything with intention and he intentionally pursues Ruth as he believes she will be his wife. This book is hilarious! Mega is petty and I am here for it. Ruth’s life before Mega is a perfect example of people being caught up in the hypocrisy of religion instead of focusing on their personal relationship with God. Thankfully, she was blessed with Mega and his amazing mama who will throw hands about her baby and his wife. Mel Dau’s catalog is amazing from what I can tell.
Megatron was ALOT..omg this was hilarious, Ruth was very sheltered and controlled by her father! The same father that had enough skeletons for a cemetery. Baby he was Messy!
I loved Ruth’s relationship with her mama and Mama Goldie.
So much stuff that came out of Mega’s mouth was just pure comedy. This man stood in his delusion. It was simple to him Ruth was his wife!
“The first day that I saw you in your restaurant, I knew God made you just for me. Now I didn’t know how the Big G was going to set it in motion for you to know you were mine.” Mega
I neglected everything because I was hooked from the first page. I absolutely loved Mega. He knew what he wanted and he wasn’t coming off Ruth. He wasn’t about to play with anyone where Ruth was concerned, not even her punk daddy. I really could not stand how hypocritical her dad and Joy was. I loved the support of their mothers and friends. Mega was everything Ruth needed him to be. I could go on about this book, but I won’t. Just read it for yourself.
Okayyyyy! This was 1/4 hilarious, 1/4 profane, 1/4 cray-cray and 1/4 disturbing on so many levels!
I have so many questions:
1) How does a 28 year old woman allow her hypocrite, super sleazy father to run her life?
2) How does a "Pastor" of a Mega Church allow his arrogance, his greed for money and power, his veracity and adultery trick him into thinking that GOD is "not real" and that there is air conditioning in hell? And somehow he believes that he won't ever have to pay for his sins?
Good vs Evil was running side by side in this race!!!!!!!
This was perfect lol. Light hearted but drama filled. Mega was standing on business calling Ruth was Wife from day one. He did not play about her. I’m glad I didn’t wait to read this one. Definitely added to my favorites of the year.
I still Don't have words for this one, several months or so after reading this story. For real, Mega is really ignorant. And he's not my cup of tea... shrugs. The story is pretty good.
This was so cute, funny, wild, and absolutely unhinged in the best way 😂. I loved the banter between Mega and Ruth — they had me grinning the whole time! And that found family element? Chef’s kiss. 👏🏾 Ruth’s father? Yeah… he definitely got what was coming to him. 😤 This was such a fun ride from start to finish, and I’ll absolutely be reading more from Mel Dau. Can’t wait to dive into the next one!
Mega is a gotdamn lunatic & I loved it. He was straight up like “I see her, want her and she’s now mine” & never let up. He was willing to go to WAR about sweet Miss Ruth.
Ruth was so sheltered & sweet but also so sassy. I LOVEEEE a bookish element in novels. Really makes the characters feel like real life friends of mine.
Ruth’s daddy might just have worked his was up to my top 5 most hated.
This was literally the ghettoest drama filled hot mess story. Literally this book was a Maury Tyler Perry remix I didn’t like the FMC at all, and I barely like the MMC. I cannot believe that I listened to the reviews! the only reason that I’m giving this two stars is because of the little little bit of spice that amped it up a point.
Wtf did I just read? I say that in a good way. I don't know what I expected to read but I thought it would be a tad more wholesome since the Libby app absolutely mislabeled this book under the Christian fiction genre. Wholesome is NOT what I got, this was a hood book (for lack of a better adjective), but I ain't mad at it! I loved this!
The characters were so colorful, problematic, and hilarious! And the women took nobody's s**t. Fast love, the "he falls first" trope, infidelity, violence, sex, scandal, hilarity...and that church scene! 🤣🤣 The writing had me cackling! I really needed the laughs, spice, and the love story I got from this. I had a long slump of letdowns since 7 of the last 10 books I've read were between 2-3.5 stars. Thanks, Mel Dau. I laughed, gasped, blushed, and laughed some more.
I loved how the author made the FMC a BookToker and book reviewer. I also appreciated how she spotlighted a few indie authors and their works. That was honestly my favorite part. The story never got boring, and there were moments that had me laughing out loud because some things were just too unrealistic lol
I really enjoyed the dynamic between the church girl and the unhinged man. The book was messy and full of finger-pointing when, honestly, some of those fingers needed to be turned inward. That’s all I’m gonna say. Read the book and see for yourself. And let me just add that the mamas were definitely standing on business!
Mel Dau has such at talent at writing such a fun plot + super funny!
I will say that if you are not religious or have a history in the church, this may not be for you.
Mega doesn’t play when it comes to Ruth and when he saw her? He knew he had to have her! It was so cute! Ruth has been sheltered her entire life and it was so awesome seeing her step out of that world.
Fun and engaging read. Mega was definitely serving protector in this ones. My favorite type of book when the man plays no games about his love. I loved how Mega just knew it’s her and just began planing and cultivating their love. No mama drama. Just a crazy daddy.
This is a good pallet cleanser to read in between the heavier reads. Some of the characters are outlandish and unrealistic that you can’t help but laugh. This one is for entertainment purposes only.
Baby, religious trauma is a real thing, whew! Ruth’s daddy was a piece of work! I wasn’t sure how I would like this book in the beginning but it was a solid read. Mega was definitely that dude. We love a street dude that loves God! Let the church say amen! Amen!
If I didn’t know so many people like Ruth, I wouldn’t appreciate the character as much as I do now. However, the continued lack of awareness became frustrating. Her character having a lucrative side hustle and love for romance novels but allowing her life to be controlled at that age doesn’t compute to me. I think if she was a few years younger, I wouldn’t have been so annoyed.
This book was hilarious via audiobook and helped cleanse my pallet between genres. I am not usually into urban romance/fiction, but this had enough cheesy, silly, and unrealistic fun to keep me engaged. Ruby and Mega were too cute, and I appreciated all the biblical references. We stan a God-fearing hood savior, although I have to say naming that man, Megatron was diabolical on his parent's part lol P.S. the smut def worked for me!
I really like how the author used her book as a platform to promote other authors because I was most definitely clicking on the links to read the synopsis for the books. I wasn’t a fan of Mega and Ruth’s two second relationship nor marriage. In my personal opinion this book is a very big contradiction for what the author was going for.
Baby I haven’t laughed this hard reading a book in a while. Mega was not playing about Ruth in the slightest. Mega stood on big business and was beating everybody ass behind Ruth. I loved every second of it. Also I enjoyed seeing Ruth grow and mature over the course of the book. Can’t wait to read the other books about the side characters.
Mega was just the man Ruth needed and she was just the woman for him. Ruth is a PK and her daddy could’ve got this work !! Mrs. Naomi had me worried at first but she pulled thru. Mega mama is my favorite !
This is the funniest and most absurd story over ever read. I’m here for all the drama and the antics that unfolded. Mega wanted Ruth and that was that, he was willing to show his whole ass to get his girl. I read this book in one sitting, the plot was hitting!
