Good men shot down in cold blood. A grieving family in peril. One lawman determined to serve justice even if it comes from the hip.
U.S. Marshal Jack Sage never shirks from his duty. Ordered by the president to hunt down the killers of a general and his son, he burns the breeze to Wyoming to protect the widows and children of his slain friends. And after he suspects an arrow found at the attack is a ruse, he’s none too surprised it's white men he shoots when they ambush one of the bereaved wives and her child.
Arriving at the ranch, dinner turns deadly when a sniper takes aim at the matriarch and Jack narrowly avoids taking a bullet as he leaps across the table to shield the lovely woman. But when he heads to Laramie in pursuit of clues, he rides into a town-full of lethal trouble…
With the outlaw one step ahead, can the steadfast man escape an early grave?
Five Women and the Star is the riveting fifth book in the Jack Sage Western series. If you like courageous heroes, gripping mysteries, and fearsome stakes, then you’ll love Donald L. Robertson’s rip-roaring tale of the Wild West.

I am a retired Southwest Airlines pilot. My wife Paula and I, live with our Chihuahua, Gabe, in Mesa, Arizona in a 55+ Golf Resort even though we don't play golf. It affords my wife a very active lifestyle while I spend my time writing. As a child, I enjoyed going to the Saturday matinee and spending the day watching westerns and daydreaming about the old west. I shared a passion with one of my aunts and read every western I could get my hands on. John Wayne was my favorite actor and Louis L'Amour my favorite writer. I miss those days where the good guys win, they treat the ladies right, have honor and are trustworthy. So, in about 2014, I started writing my own westerns and became quite shocked that people enjoyed them. I am so thankful to those of you who read my books, take the time to write reviews and email me. John Wayne said it best when he said "without you, I wouldn't be here". Please accept my deepest appreciation.
This was a super great addition to this series. Tons of action, lies and love. This was a definite page turner and can't wait for the next book. Would highly recommend this series and all other books written by this author.
Not the best book in this series but definitely worth reading. Characters were ok, story was just fair, action was ok, but the last part of the book was not that great. Everything just seemed to go "Blame" and it was over. Jack did not need to take so long trying to find out who was behind this, it was obvious a quarter way through the story. I do however enjoy Mr. Robertsons books and will continue to read them. Hopefully the Star series will continue
These books are so tightly plotted with intricate characters that it's a total joy to read one past your bedtime. The worst part is finishing that last page and finding out Marshall Sage is gone until March 2025. Read Robertson's other series to fill in the gap. His name guarantees a great read that is not all gun smoke and fast horses. But, he never explained the spur line in this book.
Another great book from one of my favorite authors
Donald Robertson has become one of my top 3 authors. I have read all of his books and like them immensely. 5 Women and the Star was another in his series about Jack Sage. He is a really believable protagonist and acts in a consistent manner. I enjoyed the action and can't wait until Don's next book!
Excellency read, keeps you interested and hard to put down. The book flows along very well and tells a story of true life in cattle country from the perspective of a u.s. Marshall and the struggles they go thru. Can't wait to read the next one in series.
Another great Jack Sage story. Jack is charged to find the killer of a friend and his son. After the war the general and his family go to Laramie and establish a family ranch. After his and his son’s death his wife Jo and her 4 daughters continue running the ranch against the odds. Lots of action that is classic Robertson.
Loved it. Read it cover to cover in one night. Jack Sage at his best. Plenty of action and a slight twist of an ending. Can't wait for the next Jack Sage or whatever else Donald L Robertson writes for that matter. He never disappoints.
This was entertaining and exciting. Didn't seem to be a dull moment in the whole story. I would rather have seen a a different ending for Jack's sake but maybe next time.
This is an action packed story about the adventures of United States Marshal Jack Sage. He's cleaning up the west. I'm going to be looking for more of his stories.
Robertson does it again. This has been a great adventure so far. Can't wait to read the next one. I would recommend you start from the beginning because this series is a fantastic ride along. Enjoy!
I always expect great dialogue between well developed characters in Mr Robertson's novels along with quality writing, a solid storyline, interesting characters and plenty of action. I'm never disappointed: This is the best so far in the Jack Sage Series.
Robinson certainly knows how to write. And how to plot good stories and create great characters. This series has been superb. I aim to start the next book tomorrow. Thanks, Don.
I sure have enjoyed reading this book. Great story that is very well written. The editing is very good as week. Hope to keep on having more of these great wors.
Nice adventure. Can always count on this author to give us a clean interesting and classic western. Sometimes Jack is a little too clean cut wish he was a little more grey. Definitely a series I enjoy.
US Marshal Jack Sage is back, this time in the land of the buffalo. Murder mayhem and more start this tale. There is everything you expect from a Jack Sage western. Donald L. Robertson is in my personal opinion the best western writer out there and this book doesn't disappoint. Being as this is a book in a series, it doesn't hurt to read the earlier books but its not really necessary to enjoy this book on its own. If you are looking for a great classic western you can go wrong here.
No.5 in the Jack Sage series, and it doesn’t disappoint!!! The author has introduced very good characters, good plot, plenty of action, and a tad of romance. The dog was a nice touch too! I highly recommend this book, and the first 4 too. Looking forward to #6!
