Eight participants, one goal: be the first to find the Heart before the court crumbles to ruin.
Kamine is chosen as her village’s participant for this year’s Undertaking. Everyone knows her mother holds the record for beating the Undertaking, and finding the Heart in record time. Kamine has to prove herself as her mother’s successor, and she only has four months to do it. The only problem? Kamine’s powers have yet to manifest.
Grimot, the new magic professor at Skola, Thunder Court’s Undertaking Prep School, is a former Undertaking winner—although the methods he used to secure the Heart left him cursed by the Gods. Now, haunted by his past, he must ensure his students' success, before the hex takes hold.
But when Grimot realizes Kamine is helpless, and standing in the way of his redemption, he offers her private lessons. Having no other choice, Kamine accepts, despite the obvious tension between them. With each passing lesson, the emotional barriers they’ve built begin to crumble as they reconcile with the tethers of their pasts, band together to protect the magic of the Thunder Court, and unearth the truth of Kamine’s legacy.
Of Thunder and Amethyst is the next installment in the Weather Court Gem series. Each standalone novella follows a different couple in their respective court (Snow, Thunder, Lightning, Rain, & Sun), each faced with the challenge of following their heart as the fate of their court's power rests in their hands.
KC Silver is a born and raised Chicagoan, spending her days exploring the city, one train stop at a time. She currently works as a media planner at a large media agency where she daydreams of the day when a Slack notification no longer makes her heart jump in fear.
KC enjoys character driven stories where the main character is on a journey of discovering themselves and learning to let go of the expectations weighing on them, while falling in love.
Big thank you to the author and Luna Literary for this arc!
My review will be up on insta soon
I’m so happy to say I enjoyed this 🥹🥹🥹The writing is great, simpel and nice. Because this is a short story, things have to move a bit quicker and story’s that move quick have always been something I struggled with fully enjoying. I’m happy to say I only felt this half with this story! The story itself moves very well, and the romance only felt rushed for me in one aspect.
It was heartwarming to see Kamine and Grimot get closer- and the man has a man bun 😮💨😮💨😮💨 man with an Eren Yeager hairstyle will always hit- periodt.
The reason he touched her were very random, like when he said he would massage her legs so she wouldn’t be tense anymore- it didn’t really fit. I understand that the author needed a sort of “opening” to introduce the smut scenes, but I think that should have happened in another way, a way that felt more natural- especially since this is a short story.
I am, however, unbelievably grateful that the author didn’t give this story a “lustful” tone. Yes, it has smut scenes, but the love story itself didn’t become lustful and the story didn’t lose its plot or progress.
I did wish their fight at the end went different, everything could have been fixed with one conversation 😔😔 but again, I understand, the author needed to put drama near the end for a great “finding each other at the end” scene.
I overal really enjoyed this !
Smut: -3 full scenes - 1/2paragraph - a mention here and there
I love these types of short books; nothing feels rushed, the plot develops beautifully, and we get to meet awesome characters beyond the MCs.
The world-building was simple to follow, and the magic system was incredibly original, nothing like I've read before. There were evil and spiteful Gods, thunder and boulder magic; it was refreshing.
Kamine and Grimot are so perfect for each other. I loved their chemistry, and even though it was a short story, their attraction wasn't instantaneous, which I appreciated. The side characters brought the right amount of brightness and a little humor to the story.
I enjoyed this book so much. Thank you for the ARC opportunity!
I must admit that K.C. Silver's Of Thunder and Amethyst was far shorter than I would have preferred, but it was still a fantastic whirlwind of a read. Even though I loved every minute of it, I found myself wishing I had more time to thoroughly explore Silver's universe and people. I finished it in one sitting. Even though it is brief, the story is emotionally impactful and skillfully combines complex magic and character development with a gripping plot.
The narrative centers on Kamine, a young lady selected to take part in the Undertaking, a perilous and enchanted test that her mother had passed in record time. The hitch is that Kamine is still vulnerable and unsure because her abilities haven't materialized yet. Knowing that she was under tremendous pressure to uphold her mother's heritage made me feel sorry for her right away. Grimot, a complicated and tortured figure, steps in at this point and gives Kamine special training to help her discover her abilities. I adored how their connection developed gradually, with trust and emotional vulnerability laying the groundwork. Their dynamic is electric, and there is a noticeable tension between them that intensifies throughout the novella.
Another intriguing aspect of Of Thunder and Amethyst is its worldbuilding. I adored how the Thunder Court and the Undertaking were based on Kamine's own experience, and the idea seemed special and enchanted. I found myself following Kamine and Grimot as they each battle their pasts and face their own demons because of the story's ability to balance emotional stakes with a dash of magical adventure.
However, there were several drawbacks to the novella's brief duration. Although the story moved along at a good clip, I couldn't help but think that Kamine and Grimot's relationship needed more in-depth examination. Even while it was satisfying, their romance could have used a bit more breathing room. In a similar vein, I wished the Thunder Court's legend and magic had been explored more. However, for its intended purpose—a brief, captivating novella—it was unquestionably successful. Ultimately, I enjoyed reading Of Thunder and Amethyst, and I can't wait to read more of the Weather Court Gem series.
✧˖°. ⤷ I received an ARC from Luna Literary in exchange for an honest review, and all opinions expressed are entirely my own.
A very fast moving novella in a new fantasy world!
When we meet Kamine, she is traveling to Skov, a school that is set up for training young adults to participate in the Undertaking. This event will take place in just four months, and puts everyone in their village in danger. These participants need to be able to learn how to hone their magic to defend their homes. The problem? Kamine has no access to magic, and has been trying to get to it her whole life.
Once at Skov, she meets Grimot, the new professor, who begrudgingly takes the time to train Kamine in how to access and control her magic.
First off, LOVE the dedication! “To those stepping into their power: don’t be afraid to let go of what no longer serves you.”
The beginning of this story was set up very cutely, with Kamine meeting 2 other girls participating in the Undertaking and becoming fast friends. While this is a competition, they all want to be able to defend their villages. However, I was not a huge fan of the hate to love story. The transition to Kamine and Grimot's love story was a little jarring, with the switch taking place over a 1/2 page without any burning tension. In the words of one of my bookish friends, "That's barely hate, that's amicable to finger friendly." And then in the end, Kamine makes some very juvenile connections between Grimot's past actions and who he is now.
I loved the female friendships shown in this story and the camaraderie between the contestants! Check out this story if you love mentor/mentee relationship, breaking a curse, overcoming past trauma, spicy romance, magical school setting, female friendship, elemental magic, and hate to love.
I received an advanced review copy for free. This review contains my honest opinion and is being left voluntarily.
After the last two days not reading anything and then this morning trying a range of books and nothing grabbing me, I moved on to an ARC from Luna Literary Management PR and I finally found a book that I loved this morning. Of Thunder and Amethyst gave me vibes of an adult version of The School for Good and Evil with themes of other dystopian books I had read that included games and trials like The Hunger Games. In Of Thunder and Amethyst, every year there is an event called The Undertaking in which 8 people from the 8 villages are chosen to compete for the Heart and survive the Undertaking to save their village and bring it prosperity for the upcoming year till the next games. For Karmine, she is a legacy as her mother and father both participated in the Undertaking when they were 22 years old and her mother won it and holds the record for finding the "heart" the fastest. With a mum as a prodigy, everyone expects Karmine to follow in her footsteps but the truth is Karmine hasn't tapped into her powers and believes she doesn't have any. Enter Professor Grimrot, he won the games the previous year but he cheated, and due to that he has been cursed by the weather gods. His whole class must pass and no one fail otherwise he will be turned into stone but left with a conscious mind. During the book we see Grimrot giving Karmine private lessons to unlock her powers, but it looks like learning her powers isn't the only thing happening during the lessons as the pair get all sexy and steamy, and in the end, we see Karmine competing for not only one heart but two to save not only her village but also the one she loves. If you love romantasy with a hint of dystopian, then you will love Of Thunder and Amethyst by KC Silver.
“How could a child so young wrap their head around the fact that the world would one day crumbling down on them?”
Skola, a towering rock, is where the Thunder Court’s chosen Undertaking participants train for a brutal yearly trial set by the Weather Gods to prove the realm deserves its magic. Training includes cardio, strength, combat, and magic, leading to a dangerous four-month Undertaking during which those not chosen must surrender their powers to save the court’s energy. Kamine, 22 with purple eyes, carries the legacy of her mother, a legendary Undertaker who found the Heart and saved their village. She lives in Polude, a southern Thunder Court village between the Snow and Lightning Courts, known for its clay bricks traded to the Rain, Sun, and Solar Courts. Voted this year’s representative, Kamine meets Grimot, a reluctant professor who helps her master her magic as she joins seven others facing the gods’ test—failure meaning doom for their court and the loss of their powers forever.
Oh, how I love a unique storyline! Interesting storytelling, fun world-building, and a magic system that actually feels fresh made this such an enjoyable read. I really appreciated the strong female friendships and the sense of teamwork between the contestants—it gave the story heart. Frankly, I personally think that the love story at this time of the series is unnecessary. Perhaps it would fit better in book 2? That said, if you’re into magical training, breaking curses, mentor/mentee dynamics, and short reads that don’t feel rushed, this one’s definitely worth picking up!
A big thanks to Luna Literary Management and KC Silver for sending me a digital ARC of this book! — #lateARCreview
When Kamine is selected as her village’s participant in the Undertaking, they’re hopeful she can save them from ruin, like her mother before her. But Kamine lacks the one thing she could use to protect her people from the Weather Gods fury – manifested magic. When she arrives at Skola to prepare for the Undertaking with the other participants, she has no choice but to be tutored by the newest professor, Grimot. Despite being brooding and haughty at first, as they get closer, he helps to coax Kamine’s magic out and they lean into the tension between them. Facing secrets, curses and hurts from the past, Kamine is racing against the clock to find her court’s Amethyst Heart, and maybe even her own.
This book is the perfect balance of fast-paced storytelling and masterful world building. Despite being a novella, it reads like a full-fledged novel with characters that are beautifully developed and a romance that feels genuine. Kamine is so lovely and tender, and even though she spends a good portion of the book in a helpless situation, she stays caring and determined. Grimot is perfectly moody and makes for the ideal dark academia boyfriend vibe - his growing faith in Kamine and her cohort is beautiful, especially considering the odds. I love this novella series and can’t wait to visit the other courts!
Author K.C. Silver really jammed so much delicious plot into such a small book. If I were to say I had an issue with this book, it would honestly be that it wasn’t long enough. It did take me a moment to get into this book but once I was there, I couldn’t let it go. I spent one morning finishing this book because I needed to know how we were going to end it. But as I was reading, I found myself thinking I could definitely see this booking being at least 400 pages or more. This book was written so beautifully but it had the ability to be a full novel. Yet at the same time, these types of books can be easily 800 pages, so I was thankful for a change up on the reading time. I guess what I realized is that I truly enjoyed the writing skills of K.C. Silver and just wanted to read more of what came to her mind. Let me inside that brain and see where we are going next. This is definitely a Novella that I would be able to see turning into a novella series or another book. Will that actually happen, who knows.
Either way author, K.C. Silver, really did a fabulous job with writing this book. Another book that is not my typical genre to pick but I absolutely loved it and will recommend to everyone. It has become a fun hobby now to expand my reading genres in the smut world. I have been very pleasantly surprised. If you’re like me and prefer dark romance, expand those horizons and try this one out!!! It’s a novella. You will love it!!!
“‘My existence will always trace back to you, my purpose in life to be consumed by you. I’ll never get lost again.’”
This novella is book 2 in the Weather Court Gem series, but it can be read on its own.
I really enjoyed the first book, Of Snow and Sapphire, and I still think this world is just so cool. I love the separation into the weather courts and how different they are. And the trials!! I love trials and these two are both so interesting and unique.
I liked the academy setting of this one and the mentor/mentee relationship that developed (although the spice came on quite suddenly and surprised me). Kamine’s development was the best part, I loved watching how she overcame the trauma of her past and discovered her powers. Her friendships at the academy were also so cute!
The trial itself was interesting, but I would’ve liked more time devoted to it. I felt that way about most of the book though, and really think this would’ve benefitted from being a full novel to expand on every part of it. There were so many good things set up and I wanted more time to explore them.
There were also some aspects of this court that I found confusing and there weren’t ever good answers for why things were the way they were. Some parts felt like they could have used a bit more thought to make the world make sense.
Overall this was an enjoyable and quick read and I’m looking forward to more installments!
This is the second novella in KC Silver’s Weather Court series, this one set in and involving the lives of those in the Thunder Court.
Kamine has been selected by her fellow villagers as the one to partake in the Undertaking. She is hopeful that she will be able to find the Heart and win the game to secure the safety of her village and to ensure that the Court remains worthy of the power given by the Weather Gods.
When she arrives at Academy to begin her training, the fellow students immediately know who she is, as her mother won her own Undertaking many years ago and was known through the land to have incredible powers.
So far, Kamine doesn’t have any.
After she forms an unlikely alliance with one of the professors at the school, Kamine continues to study and learn with the hopes of making her power surface so she can protect her people.
Throughout her journey, she comes to realize that power can take many different forms, and can come from both strength and love.
Overall this was another great installment in the series. I like that this novella focused on a different Court and introduced new characters surrounding the same event. The action was well done and I thought that everything was well tied together in the end.
Looking forward to the next one!
Thank you to the author and the publisher for the opportunity to read an ARC in exchange for an honest review!
This is the second book in the series and as we follow a different court, they can be read as standalones.
This is the thunder court and Kamine, the FMC, is a 22 years old woman who is chosen as her village's participant in this year's Undetaking. In the next four months, she and the other participants will be living in Skola, Thunder Court's Undertaking Prep School (which is inside a mountain, so they'll be living ans studying for months there without any contact with the exterior).
This year there is a new professor, Grimot, who won his Undertaking five years ago. He is young (27 yo), dark and really handsome. Since the first sight Grimot acts like he hates Kamine but he tries to help her giving her private lessons to try to help her manifest her powers.
The thing is that he doesn't try to help her because he is that good but because he is cursed and if this year's participants don't do a good performance int he Undertaking, he'll be turned to marble because he cheated when he won.
Loved Kamine and Grimot's chemistry and banter. How they started their physical encounters is a bit dub-con for me but since then it only get better.
I give a 4 star because at first the book is great but then it starts to feel a bit rushed.
This has a very cool premise and set of main characters and kept me reading til the end, but the story/writing is too abrupt. I think the problem is that this needed to be a full novel, not a novella. It seems like it could have had a lot to say about grief and self doubt and how they manifest in our lives, if the story had space to breathe. It also commits the same sin that drives me nuts in My Fair Lady – we skip the main characters falling in love. We follow them closely through their initial meeting, initial lessons as mentor/mentee, and even their initial success as mentor/mentee – then we jump ahead several months to when they are already in love and preparing for the climactic final test.
It all ends up being very tell don’t show (and we tell don’t show about most of the side characters as well, who also seem like they would have been interesting to get to know fleshed out in a longer book). Characters who didn't really like each other are friends now because we are told so. Characters accept major new information without question, just because they have been told it. The MCs are now deeply in love and have changed each other for the better, because we are told so. Everything just needs more space to grow.
The storyline for the MCs wraps up, but not the larger overarching storyline of the world, so I suspect other longer works are out or in development. I’d be intrigued to check them out at some point and see if my theory about how the author is able to flesh out a longer story is upheld. There's a lot of raw promise in this one, it just didn't manifest for me.
3.5🌟 2🌶️ So this one was hard to give a rating to for me. I really liked the ideas behind this but I felt it should have been longer. What I did really like- I did really like the FMC. I thought she was fun and sassy. As a glasses wearer I love when a FMC wears glasses and then talks about the things you have to do/consider when you do wear glasses. I really liked the girl friendships. They were super sweet and supportive The whole concept of the powers, school, and tournament were really interesting
What wasn't my favorite- The spice came outta nowhere - like I had to go back and read twice because I thought surely I missed something but nope. I did not. I still had a lot of questions about everything when the story ended but I did feel like that was because this book should have been longer. It just felt a bit rushed
So I will definitely read the next in the series and I did like parts of this one, I just wish it had been longer so it could have fully explored some of the things happening
This novella was my introduction to the Weather Court Gem Series. I couldn't quite work out whether it was aimed at young adults or adults and I think it could be both if it weren't for the explicit sex scenes. It was a story full of heart (excuse the pun!) and the character development was beautiful. I found it to be a mix of The Hunger Games and Fourth Wing with people being chosen by the villagers to protect their villages at all costs and based in an old stone school for months with a dire outcome if they failed. This was my first read of this author and I am quite delighted in the beautiful writing flow and descriptions of characters. I found strong relationships, tragic pasts, friendships based on care and love and a romance at the heart of the book. I'd like to thank Luna Literary Management, and K. C. Silver for my introduction to the series and the opportunity to read this ARC
I mentioned this with the first book in the Weather Court Gem series and it applies to the second book as well: this novella is a perfect way to wet your toes into the Fantasy/Romantasy genre! There’s engrossing world building, great character arcs (with romance and spice included with the enemies-to-lovers/professor-student tropes) and a thrilling quick plot. Kamine is chosen to represent her village as to compete in the Undertaking as her mother once did, and is enrolled in the Skola school for training. There she encounters Grimot, her instructor, who helps her try to manifest her magic. This series has been a welcome addition in my wheelhouse of books as I get to enjoy the fantasy and romance genre while it being a light and quick read. Thanks to the author and Luna Literary Management for the eARC.
I enjoyed entering the world of the Weather Courts meeting Kamine and Grimot. The idea that each village had to see a chosen participant into a school to help protect them from a yearly "hail storm" with boulders was an interesting choice. Each character seemed to fit in this world with Kamine and Grimot being at the center having a student/professor relationship-both of them being adults so it wasn't cringy.
I understand things had to happen quickly as this was a short book, however I do with a few things had been different which would have happened if it was a bit longer.
Overall, it was a nice quick read and I probably will read the next one in the series.
Thanks to being my first ARC! What can I say… I really enjoyed this book or in this case novella, it was short but I’ve read bigger books and with a much more rushed writing (what I hate btw) This one was well build, the relationships, the dialogues etc.. the only down for me was the powers and the rocks falling from the sky by the pettiness of the Weather Gods all that stuff was a bit off… it’s just weird. It could be explored better, explained better. But the rest it was not bad by any means. Got romance, got a bit of spice, friendship… teacher/student relationship (that I just adore personally).. Good for some light reading.
2.5 star This was an interesting read! It is a magical fantasy novella with a little romance spicy twist added in. The idea for the story is fantastic but I feel like I was missing something due to not reading the first novella before this one. I really loved the magic and power aspect! It reminded me of Harry Potter mixed with Fourth Wing and it made the whole story really enjoyable! The spice is mild but the writing also made it seem like she was more of a teen rather then an adult. Overall I think if you read the series in order it is a must read! The book is available now on KU and Amazon!

I was given Of Thunder and Amethyst as an ARC reader. My honest review is below.
I am giving this one 3.75 stars but I always round up. I so wish this could be a novel instead of a novella. I understand the author's reasonings and I respect K.C. Silver for that so much. I just wanted more.
I love the storyline. I think it is a great idea that she came up with and I loved the characters.
I do wish there could have been a bit more character development for both Kamine and Grimot.
Anyways, this is a fun, quick read. I would recommend.
This book packs a lot in a short amount of time. You get to know Kamine, the main character and the trials she goes through. You really come to love Kamine and Grumpy. I'm a huge fan of enemies to lovers and professor x student tropes and this book has both. The only reason Im rating it as 3.75 stars is because it felt a bit rushed to me. I would have loved it if we had a slow build, in-depth character development and world building.
Of Thunder and Amethyst” by @bysilverstories is the second novella in the Winter Court Gem series. It follows Kamine, as she is selected by her village to participate in the Undertaking, an annual event where the chosen few must save their villages from the Thunder Gods test of rocks falling from the sky. First, she must train at Skola to prepare… only problem is… she can’t access her powers.
I really loved this novella! I loved the first one too, and I love the different dynamics and stories that are told for both Court. I love the grumpy professor who falls for his “hopeless” student, and I love their dynamic at the end. I cannot wait for more of this series because I love this little world so much already!
The second book of the Weather Court Gem series follows Kamine as she struggles with her powers. Through this mission, she has Grimot, her professor, with her.
That book was hot. The scenes between Kamine and Grimot and the way that he woke up her powers oh god. I loved this couple's dynamic. The ending was one of my favorite parts, I really liked it.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
"To those stepping into their power: don't be afraid to let go of what no longer serves you."
There is so much action packed in this short book but it is so good . I literally adore Kamine and Grimots their attitude towards each other but they bond so good as they develop along the way . Kamine grew up so much along the way
I wasn't expecting this story being so spicey but I adore it !
I love how it was full of magic, healing and romance all in one book .
This was a lovely novella, although I wished it was a bit longer to give it that depth I feel like it needed. Nonetheless the world building was beautiful, magic system was unique, & the storyline was easy to follow w/ intriguing concepts. Grimot & Kamine’s connection was a bit fast, but I see the potential!! I loved the banter between them 🥹🤍 And I look forward to the next book in The Weather Court Gem Series!!
This was a short fire read but a really unique one. I loved the concept of this novella. While I was slightly confused at the set up of the romance it did come together eventually. I may have to find the other novellas to see if theyre as unique as this one. It was short, fun, and had a cool take on it.
I DEVOURED this in a manner of hours. I absolutely enjoyed the writing and I didn't want to put it down. I switched between my earc and my physical copy when needed. I just wanted to stay lost within the pages. And l absolutely loved Kamine and Grimot's story. And I am absolutely looking forward to more of this series.
A short novella filled with magic & romance! I liked learning about the thunder court & how they view the Undertaking. I wish it was a bit longer, but I can't wait to read about the rest of the weather court couples! ✨️
The story is good. something familiar something new... love the characters. However, they annoyed me at times but love them nonetheless. A good dread. I recommend it.
