The Garbage Collector

Rate this book
Snippet:

I was dragging and pulling this oversized ratty sofa out and doing a terrible job of getting it across my three acres of yard and out to the alley for the garbage collector when I heard,
“Need some help,” and then I heard a truck’s door opening and closing. I turned slightly and the sun was behind me which means the sun was directly in his eyes, making him squint a little. I had a perfect view of this strikingly tall, well-built hazel eyed man. I felt my heart skip a beat.
“No,” I said curtly attempting to dissuade my would-be helper, but more importantly attempting to build a brick wall between him and my heart.
“Don’t worry, I won’t bite,” he responded ignoring my refusal completely as he reached into his nicely fitting jeans back pocket and grabbed his work gloves and approached me as if I had said yes. I don’t think I’m supposed to be noticing his jeans, I silently reprimanded myself.
He walked up to me as if I had given him my permission. That put me at a lost; his forwardness. He grabbed that bulky monstrosity raised it up on its side, making it look effortlessly. Then he turned around, slightly bent, reached behind himself and braced it against his back. I’m sure my mouth hung open, looking like I was fishing for flies.
I couldn’t speak. I could only watch as his muscles flexed in his arms and his back muscles strained against that tight fitting tee he was wearing as he lifted up carrying that d…. eyesore on his back, across three acres of land; all the way to the alley and setting it down. I don’t know how long I stood there speechless; standing in awe. I wasn’t sure if I were surprised at his strength or his audacity.
“Anything else?”
