HAYDEN
A college hockey jock rising star? Sexy but dirt-poor?
Yep. That’s me.
I’m the left wing for the Tampa Scarecrows and the charity match in three months will decide my future in the pros. It’s do or die, no second chances.
I bust my ass every day. I don’t date. One-night stands are my jam and no repeats is my motto.
Until I end up living with my last hookup. He needs my help and happens to be a hot-as-sin vampire hotshot.
It’s a no-brainer deal, especially when our chemistry is off the charts.
The only problem? Our arrangement has an expiration date no matter how perfect my vamp Daddy turns out to be.

LEANDER
An arranged marriage is the last thing I need, but my overprotective aunt won’t take no for an answer. I’ll have to pick a suiter at her ball in three weeks.
Enter Hayden.
What was supposed to be a one-night fling turns into a fake dating situation when he discovers the world of vampires I’m a part of. And it might just get Auntie off my case. All I need to do is keep him around until the ball is over and convince her we are madly in love.
There is only one complication: it turns out that Hayden might be a lot more than just the hot jock I’m letting crash at my place.

Pucking Vamps is a college hockey vampire romance which features fake dating, fated mates, high heat, a hockey jock who is down on his luck until he meets his vampire Daddy, a meddling aunt, and a guaranteed HEA. It's part of the Blackmoon University series of standalones.

"This was so cheesy, but fuck, it's really doing it for me right now"

My thoughts about this book.
It was cute, kinky, funny and SO unserious. Exactly what In the mood for. There's a bunch of troupes packed in
Instalust
Low angst
Teacher/student
Vampire/human
Fated mates
Daddy kink
Collared
Fake dating
Public claiming 🔥🥵
Breeding
Hockey player
Rich/poor
It's busy. The daddy kink didn't work for me here. It was embarrassing... But I loved how intense their attraction was. The way Leander was trying to Woo Hayden while Hayden was trying NOT to fall in love.

Hayden was pretty immature. It took me a bit to like him.
He said if he didn't make it in hockey, he would be a rock star. I love the confidence, but he just felt like an airhead to me. Made it hard to connect to him. Leander was blah, hot, and sweet... They grew on me by the end.
I would have liked more vampire stuff, but I still had fun.

No cheating, sharing, om.
No epilogue.
Thank you for the ARC.

Ps It was a little weird. Hayden had his hands down Leander's pants in front of his auntie 🤨

Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️/5
Format: ebook

I feel bad rating this so low, but even two stars was generous. This is closer to 1.75. If it wasn’t an ARC, I would’ve DNF’d.

The summary of this book sounded so good and the first handful of chapters were promising but then things just quickly went stagnant and never got going again. I was so bored and I put off reading it for so long that now I’m behind on other ARCs.

Some things I did like:
-the “bottom awakening”
-some of the vampire lore

That’s it.

There was no plot to this book, which would have been fine if there had been spice. This book is marketed as high spice but it’s not. Around the 40% mark one of the mmc’s randomly leaves for a week and when he comes back we’re hit with a fun miscommunication (more accurately—no communication) trope and they avoid each other a good portion of the book after that. But even with the spice we do get, it’s all very tame and boring despite the page and a half of “trigger” warnings.

The characters were kind of absurd. They both went back and forth from speaking like they’re centuries old to sounding like young teenagers. The dialogue was very weird. There’s barely any hockey in this hockey romance. Hayden refers to himself as poor and lonely about 100 times but there’s absolutely no mention of the circumstances making that happen. He also has only two life goals: becoming a professional hockey player or being a rockstar. Imagine being homeless and setting the bar sixty feet above you. Like maybe try fast food or something first? He has absolutely zero survival skills; I’m impressed he made it to college.

Leander and Hayden have nothing in common and no chemistry except for maybe their first hookup. Leander was supposed to be the substitute teacher of one of Hayden’s college classes (which by the way—was just called “Guitar”. What?) but he was only there once and it was never brought up again. Also imagine screaming out “Leander” in bed.

My favorite part—Leander had to find a fake boyfriend because his aunt was worried he’d off himself because vampires are going through a GARLIC PANDEMIC. Yes, if I had to read that, so do you. Vampires are offing themselves with garlic overdoses. I cannot.

I’m sorry, I hate giving an ARC such a low rating and scathing review but I’m nothing if not brutally honest.

Tropes: fake dating, roommates, vampire/human, rich/poor, professor/student
Feels: 2/5
Steam*: 3/5
Kinks: exhibitionism, toys, daddy/brat, collars and leashes, blood kink, breeding, primal play
Angst: low
HEA: yes
Pairing: MM
Triggers/potential icks/content warnings: loss of parents, suicide of parent in past, miscommunication

Hayden 22. He's a poor college student on scholarship. His parents died when he was young and he was raised by an uncle who's not been involved ever since he turned 18. He wants to be a professional NHL player, and he plays college hockey. Hayden has a one-night stand with a hot guy at a bar, Leander. Then he gets kicked out of his apartments because his landlord owes people money and they take the building, so now he's homeless. Oh and his hook up ends up being his substitute professor. Hayden needs a place to crash and he runs into Leander at an inopportune time and they make a deal.

Leander is 34. He's a vampire and his aunt wants to set him up in an arranged marriage, because vampires don't do well alone. His father committed suicide when he was 13 and the aunt is afraid that Leander if lonely might do the same thing. Leander asks Hayden to fake date him and attend a ball at his aunt's place, to try to convince her that he's taken. In the meantime, Hayden can stay at his place and they can engage in some real sex and continue enjoying their hot chemistry together. It turns into feelings. But they don't talk about it and they're both worried about what the other would think about trying to extend this arrangement.

I wasn't too excited about this book. It was mildly entertaining but you know how sometimes you read a book and nothing seems believable, you don't buy in to the relationship, everything kind of seems a little cheesy and poorly plotted with crummy motivations behind it? That was this book for me. I will list below a bunch of the things that didn't work for me. But also in general, I think this book had too much kink and not enough feelings. Books that have a lot of kink just lose my attention because the sex just seems performative and all about the kink and special interests, and not so much about the person and the feelings for that person. I have seen some books where they get the right balance between feelings, non-kinky sex, and kinky sex, but it's rare for it to work for me. I know that's a me thing.

Things I didn't love:

- Um... Hayden's backup career if he can't make it as a hockey player in the NHL is to become a rockstar. WTF. That is not a practical reasonable backup plan. It's like saying I want to win the lottery as my backup plan. Dumb boy. Makes me respect him less.

- The scene where Hayden, a human, gives Leander head in the pool while underwater. Giving head underwater is just ridiculous, like being waterboarded. The water would be seeping into your mouth and being thrust down your throat with the suction and pressure. There's no way just holding your breath for 3 minutes while giving a b****** would work. It's not just about an absence of air, which somebody could do without for a few minutes.

- The scene where Leander has an artist paint him and Hayden while they were having sex. Why the heck was the artist so fast at painting it? Painting should take longer than what he took.

- This one is just about my personal tastes... There was a fair amount of exhibitionism in this book. I'm not a huge fan of exhibitionism. I like possessiveness and to me it's not very possessive if you're fine with showing off and sharing by letting other people watch, and I don't like the way that the focus shifts away from each other and becomes about the crowd and their reactions. It just takes you away from the positive feelings, from the personal.

- There were typos of various words. But one thing kind of confused me, I didn't know if it was a typo or not but it annoyed me. I don't know if it's intentional but the author has been writing the word yes with two s's every time they use the word yes for quite a while. I understand strategically using the word yes with multiple S's to mark a groaning out of the word, but even in casual use of the word yes the two s's appear. It's almost like someone did find and replace an accidentally changed a whole bunch of yeses to be spelled wrong.

Some notable moments:

"He snorts. “Leander. Let me get this straight. We are racing. If I win, you cook for me a supposedly gourmet meal. If you win, we go to a fancy restaurant of my choosing and you pay for it. Did I get this right?” “Yes.” He tilts his head back and laughs, the sound caressing my soul. “Do you not realize that I technically win in both cases?”"

"I want him. Fuuuuuck. I want him, period. I shouldn’t, but I do. For real, not to fake date. I want to real date the shit out of him. I want to hang out with his friends again, I want to go to his stupid ball as his real partner. I want to tell his overprotective aunt that he’s taken. That he’s mine, for real. This… It changes everything. I’m so fucking screwed. He’s so far out of my league."

*FYI about steam: I rate steam based on a combination of quality & quantity. I note kink separate from steam because I don't want to underrate steamy reads that don't have much kink.

**Note about spoilers: I like to comment on the plot of a book in reviews, so I almost always mark my reviews as containing spoilers. But I try to avoid spoiling the big dramatic moments! As a reader, I personally like to know what I'm getting into before I read a book so I know more about the content and if it's to my taste/mood, so I try to give that information in my reviews for myself when I'm considering rereading and also for other readers.

Hayden & Leander
Rating: 3.6 ⭐

- Billionaire/College Hockey Player
- Fated Mates
- Fake Dating
- Vampire/Human
- Paranormal
- Light Daddy Kink
- Possessive MC
- Rich/Poor
- Instalust
- Attempted Arranged Marriage

Overall, I liked this one and fated mates is usually a winner for me regardless. This was fun and smutty all-around, so think less plot and heavy smut with a side of sassy hockey player. This would've been better if Leander was older because his mannerisms and recalling of information or skills made it seem like he was much older than 34. This made it hard to imagine Leander as he was supposed to me, especially with all the older vampires around him. I liked the way these two met and progressed to more. Considering that it's a fated mates story, even if they didn't realize at first, the progression of their feelings made sense and actually wasn't that rushed.

Leander is briefly Hayden's professor, but he's only there to cover for the actual professor for a few weeks and that's it. This dynamic does not come into play with their relationship and isn't really mentioned, besides them eyef*cking each other during class weekly.

I am interested to see how some of Hayden's teammates stories play out in the future.

ARC

This book was all vibes no thoughts, smutty goodness and fun. Leander the smexy vampire makes Hayden the himbo jock have his bottom awakening and soft-daddies him into being in love with him, all while being in a 'fake' relationship. They have sexy times which include cock rings and a healthy dose of exhibitionism.
Fun light read with almost zero angst. Perfect palate cleanser and series opening.
Now I'm wondering what will happen with Nick. And with Park...

A hockey romance with vampires wasn't exactly something I anticipated on my bingo card, but here we are, and I'm not complaining. This story is simple, fun, very spicy, and super sweet. It is rather insta-lusty, which can be hit or miss with me, but I guess my mood was vibing with that, so it worked. Hayden and Leander aren't overly complex characters, but still interesting. The relationship between them is actually rather adorable. I kind of expected this to be a touch darker than it was, so I was surprised when it wasn't, but that's not a bad thing. Everything here worked. I was feeling an easy-for-the-brain, fun read, and this definitely hit the spot.

A very good, sweet and sexy read !

Did you know I needed hockey player x vampire daddy + fated mates + kinky + exhibitionist ? Hell no.
BUT did I enjoyed it ? Hell yeah 😂
It is my new type of drug ~

The plot is super simple, one night stand becomes fake dating which becomes destiny ! It’s so simple that it clicked with me.
From the start I was into the story, wanted Hayden to go pro and madly happy with Leander.

Insta lust > insta love
Vampy daddy
Hockey boy
D/s vibes
And collaring (light)
Fated mates
Explosive chemistry
Exhibitionist

It is a kinky book but it doesn’t go deep into it ~
Like the story, it’s lighthearted to give you a happy time ~ ❤️
A very good mention for the end ~ chef kiss because I really liked it 🤌🏻 as it’s a real vampire HEA !
A very good 4 ⭐️~

Can’t wait for book 2, maybe with Thomas & a certain bully. Or maybe Nick and who knows who 🫢❤️

You know those books where the writing is so bad you keep having to send your friend messages because you can't make it through the book otherwise and if you have to suffer someone else needs to as well? 😅
Points for effort though and making me cackle at the sheer idiocy of some sentences, that made my day 👌

Pucking Vamps was a lot of fun.

If you like smutty, slightly kinky mm romances you’ll love this book.

I loved the intersection of hockey/vampires.

This authors writing style was slightly choppy in places but the pacing was good and the characters started out slightly cliche but were easy to love as the story went on.

Leander was so sweet and I loved that.

If you’re looking for some sort of great literary work of fiction, this book isn’t for you but if you’re looking for a fun wild ride, then it is.

Thank you to the author for this ARC in exchange for an honest review!

**I received an advance review copy for free, and I'm leaving this review voluntarily. Thank you, BookSirens and the author, for the opportunity.

What to expect:

📍Vampire x human

📍Fake dating

📍Primal play

📍Exhibitionism

📍Public sex

📍Daddy kink

📍Possessiveness

First of all, I want to ask you to ignore the rating. Yes, the story was nothing earth-shattering and I could mention a couple of questionable points and plot holes, but the reality is that if you're going to read this book it will be for the smut. And what a smut! I'm still processing everything we read. The "what to expect" I did is only a small part of it. I recommend that you read the author's warnings if you think something might bother you.

The book seemed to be a very dirty dark romance, the typical vampire-human story with a few red flags. And it wasn't! Actually, their relationship, although very kinky, was quite sweet. I might have enjoyed it more without the usual misunderstanding that tends to be popular in fake dating novels that last until the very end (iykyk)

I'm a little concerned about the main character's lack of self-protection, as he did a lot of crazy things because he thought it was hot, but it all worked out in the end 😂. Also, the stereotypes of vampire stories were not present either, although morally gray, the vampires in this story were quite chill and more concerned with their orgies and fancy parties (an interesting combination indeed).

Unfortunately, I found the characters a bit flat, they had the potential to be something more complex, but I don't think that was the author's intention in the first place.

I have classified this book as troupe bait. And I say that with no offense intended, it's just a reality that the amount of popular and sexy troupes and micro-troupes in this book is too much. Any one of them can make a good novel and appeal to a certain type of reader; mix them all and you have an indefinable result.

Was it fun? Very much so. Was it hot? Without a doubt. Would I recommend it? Only if you're looking for a quick read with little drama, a simple plot, and lots of sex 🙃!

Vampires and hockey what more could I wish for? Good writing, good writing is what I wish for.

Pucking Vamps stood out to me as a collab of tropes I've never seen put together. Honestly, the first few chapters had me on the hooks, and I thought for sure this would be a book I add to my favorites however after the first few chapters and to the midway point I can confidently say, I was wrong.

This book doesn't only feature the vampire and hockey trope it features a whole list of them, it has the whole daddy trope/kink then it features professor/student, then fake dating, then fated mates, and a whole list of micro tropes going on. If all of that was written well into a book I would enjoy it but it's not, all of this gets thrown on you at a fast pace, and before 40% you can already assume what this book is going to be about. If the author removed half the tropes and expanded on the big one the book advertised itself to be about (hockey) then I would be a happy camper.

I am not a happy camper, just disappointed 😔 I had high hopes only to be met with a book that only writes by the trope with nothing notable going on, no characters were written well besides the loosely written MC and vampire. Everything felt stale and only a lead-up to the next sex scene.

If you're looking for a fun read with smut, and ignore a lot of the cringe-worthy dialog and actions then this is for you, I bet the author has 10 books to sequel this already lined up for you, based on how much hinting that the whole hockey team would meet their matches. However, if you were looking for a well-written book about two popular tropes then hop on the wagon buddy this is not for you.

With all this considered I give this book a solid 4/10.

Hayden is at the club and want to get laid and it's here that his path cross the way with Leander.
.
They have what both of them think of as a one-night-stand but the next day Hayden found Leander in his classroom as his professor.
.
A turn of events make them meet again and in this occasion Hayden finds out Leander's true nature: he is a vampire.
.
Leander to protect him identifies Hayden as his boyfriend and then he has the idea to fake date, that only to escape the arranged marriage his aunt is planning.
Now their relationship has an expiring date and this Is haunting both of them.
.
A story full of spice in a lust-to-love situation that will keep you literally glued to the pages.
Hayden is a cute hockey player that is enchanted by Leander and his personality.
Even if he is rich as fuck he isn't presumptuous at all.
I loved the gifts he gives to Hayden to show him that he really cares.
.
I found this book and its characters amazing and that’s the reason why i gave it 4,5 out of 5

This story was quite surprising, I didn’t know what to expect about vampires and hockey jock. But I truly had a good time, I like the dynamic and it was hot !!! I’m not a fan of Daddy’s vibe but why not for this one, it was cute and sassy.

I like how Hayden wants to be in control and in the end gives it to Leander but only in the bedroom, even then he stays a brat and likes to rile him up.

I’m quite curious about Park and I would love for Nick to have a story too 😊

These two had instant insane chemistry and connection. The definition of mates.

Hayden definitely showed his young age but I really liked how accepting he was of everything.

This was a cute, cheesy, quick read. Wasn't very deep at all and the characters weren't very deep in their relationship in my opinion but still a cute read nonetheless

A very steamy vampire story. Little did Hayden, a college hockey player going out for the evening, run into the love of his life. He has had a very tough life. His parents died and he is on his own. He made it into an ivy league school but he has a scholarship and has to work to make ends meet. Leander, a mysterious person, shows up at the bar the team was at and Hayden was hooked. Hooked, line and sinker. Hayden has never had a relationship and he falls hard.

This was a really fun romance! There were pieces of it that I learned weren’t exactly my thing, but I can definitely imagine that this would be a great choice for people into those pieces! I loved Hayden and Leander and would definitely keep reading the series if the author comes out with more! Definitely recommend!

Oh, hockey x vampires... a combo I didn't know I needed.

For real, I did not know what to expect from this one. I saw the book on booksirens, and I was in the mood for a hockey mm, add vamps to the equation, and I was sold.

This book was such a quick, fun read. It was steamy. It was funny. It was nice.

I am a sucker for the fated mates trope, so... this book really did it for me.

The way they acted towards each other, the visceral reactions, ugh... don't give me that and expect me to not love it.

It was a 5⭐️ read. I can't wait to read the rest of the series. I hope we get a book for Nick 🫣.

Thanks to BookSirens and J.F. Miev for a free advance review e-copy of this book, I am leaving this review voluntarily.

When Hayden, a college student on an ice hockey scholarship, goes home from a nightclub with a mysterious stranger he doesn’t expect him to turn up at his lecture the next day as his temporary professor. Nor does he expect the enigmatic Leander to be a vampire, who happens to need a fake boyfriend for a family event.

What I liked: This was a fun and strangely addictive read, I've been in a slight reading slump for the last couple of days and I managed to finish this without reaching for another book in between. The synopsis was entertaining, I liked the idea of an ice hockey vampire mashup and the world and vampire society was well explained.

What didn’t work for me: Possibly too many tropes, I may miss a few; ice hockey players, vampires, instant mystical attraction, fake dating, daddy kink, orgies and not to mention internal angst due to miscommunication, which always just bugs me. With all that going on I felt I didn’t really get to connect with the characters and there wasn’t that much happening in the plot to make it particularly vampiric. Additionally, I may have missed something, but I’m not sure why the ice hockey team only seemed to be practising for a charity game months away and never had real games.

Final Thoughts: Fun and spicy but not very deep.

Who would enjoy this book: Fans of M/M romances who want a light read.

🧛‍♂️He's mine. I can feel it in my bones, in every cell, in every nerve. In his presence, in mine🧛

"And seriously, what's with your cosplay? Fangs and glowing eyes? Really? What, do you guys identify as vampiresexuals or something?"

"I'm showing him something I haven't shown to anyone. It's just pouring out of me, tempted by this strange sense of comfort this man instills in me."

"Mine. He's mine. I can feel it in my bones, in every cell, in every nerve. In his presence, in mine. In the way they compliment each other."

I have been waiting to read this book than forgot about it until now. This was such a fantastic read. This is the first time I've seen hockey paired up with vampires. I hope we get more books in this series. The spice in this book was high and oh so hot 🔥🔥🔥🔥. This story had some great troupes like fake dating, fated mates, age gap, and rich vampire daddy/poor hockey jock. The kink in this book was chef's kiss 🥵😏😌.

This story follows Leander and Hayden. Hayden is a poor jock playing hockey on a scholarship. He is hoping to make it big and go to the NHL. He ends up meeting Leander at a bar and ends up having a one night stand with him. Leander ends up becoming a substitute professor in one of Hayden's classes. Both of these men don't do relationships and only have one night flings. Leander is a vampire who's meddling aunt intervenes and tries to get him married off. Hayden ends up getting kicked out of his apartment then ends up seeing something he shouldn't see. He figures out what Leander is, they spark a deal to fake date to get his aunt off his case, but what they don't anticipate is being fated mates and falling in love.

I loved the connection and tension between these two. Straight off, it was insta lust, but they had a pull that kept them wanting more and coming back. The spice and sexy times was hot af and kinky 🥵🥵🔥🔥. I loved the light Daddy kink. I loved how Hayden was a pure top but had a bottom awakening then became a slut to it 🤣🤣. He was such a brat when he was needy. Leander became quite possessive of him fast. I loved how confident and just the aura Hayden had about him. Despite the low plot and high spice this was a great sweet read. I hope we get more books for the other characters. Especially Park and Thomas. I definitely need that one so bad! 🧛‍♂️🩸🏒🐴

There is only one complication: it turns out that Hayden might be a lot more than just the hot jock I’m letting crash at my place."]

This book was entirely too perfect. The sexual tension, the feeling of rightness, the utter devotion and possessiveness and love. The mutual pining and low (ish) level angst. Everyone else knowing exactly how far gone these two were for each other, even before they did.

It was sooooo freaking good! I can't. I want more. I want another, right pucking now.

Plus all of the sweet but spicy nicknames Hadyen had for Leander?!?! Swoooooning.

Quote of the Day (Hayden): "As if I'm not already addicted to him. What's adding one more reason to the pile, right?"

I have to start by saying if you are looking for a super deep, thought-provoking story that will stay in your thoughts for days to come, this is probably not the book for you. But don’t get me wrong, I thoroughly enjoyed this story. It was entertaining and I flew through it, reading it in about a day. It was a spicy, enjoyable read and something that is a great palette cleanser after reading something difficult and intense.

I absolutely loved Hayden. He’s a guy that I can relate to. He’s the sexy hockey player that is trying his best to stay afloat in hopes that he can get to the NHL and finally make money that he desperately needs. He’s a one and done kind of guy and total bisexual top. I loved the bottom awakening that takes him from tough top to Daddy’s little bottom. He’s not a complex character, but he’s one I can appreciate.

Leander is a whole lot in one package. He’s a vampire, guitar player, professor, and sexy vampire council member. I like his interactions with Hayden and his strong dominant energy that is protective and loving, but also super spicy. He at times seems like bored billionaire vampire and Hayden is exactly what he needs.

I enjoy vampire stories. I know more about different vampire lore than most people. I have read so many different versions of the inner workings of vampires and what the rules are for vampires. This was another new take on vampires where it was a mix of some of the more traditional rules and some rules that were made to help the flow of the story. I wasn’t mad about any of it though. It wasn’t super deep and you don’t get bogged down in the lore, but there is enough there to entertain.

This story is not going to be for everyone. It is not going to be super deep, but it is entertaining and definitely spicy. It’s not too long and is a great quick read that can be done in a day or two. It’s a great book if you just need a spicy break from reality. It has sports, vampires, an MM romance, and enough of a story to read through it quickly.

I have received an arc from this book.
I have written more arc for JF. Miev.

I will be honest with my review.
I love both characters, Hayden a funny boy with a bratty attitude.
Leander has a colder charater and a little bit possesive, but has a soft heart for Hayden from the beginning.

Storyline
Hayden and Leander met at an club, at this club Hayden doesn't know his name so after their hook-up he calls Leander Club boy. Hayden feels like someone stalks him from the beginning. Hayden is a boy who loves to hook-up with no strengs attacked and so does Leander.
Hayden is a Hockey Jock and Hayden is a substitute teacher, but Hayden doesn't know this.
The next day Hayden sees his hook-up at his school as his teacher. He knows how much he has f*cked up, but he can't think other then Leander is hot and wanting to get into his pants. Only Hayden has his no repeat rules, but yeah for Leander he will break it.

Hayden and Leander hook-up again and again through the story. What I loved about it is that Leander is dominant towards Hayden but also cares for his well being. I'm not a big fan of a daddy kink in a book, but it fits them both. Hayden calling Leander Daddy and Leander calling Hayden a good boy. Hayden has the hots for being a good boy but also loves to go against Leander. Hayden is used to top and now at the bottom is hot to see. Hayden loves to bottom for Leander and being a brat about it.

Leander aunt has arranged a meeting with difficult people for an arranged marriage. Leander doesn't want this and asks Hayden to become his fake boyfriend. What I loved about it, is that Leander and Hayden both wanted each other from the beginning. Leander is so lovely towards Hayden the whole time, respects him, treats him so right, there isn't a change Hayden doesn't fall for this rich mans charms!

All with all, I think the spice was alright, some sentences through the book made me a little bit uncomfortable but I liked this book.

I was intrigued when I read the blurb for this book. Vampires and hockey in a spicy MM romance? Sign me up!

Hayden is a down on his luck, college hockey player with dreams of going pro. Leander is a rich young vampire being pressured to marry by his well-meaning aunt. The two meet at a club, and Hayden goes home with Leander for the night. The next day, Hayden realizes that his one-night stand is his substitute guitar professor, then becomes unexpectedly unhoused before accidentally discovering that Leander is a real-life vampire. The two agree to a fake dating scheme beneficial to both of their situations.

The author clearly states that the book is high on spice, while light on plot. Some of this book's tropes include: fated mates, Daddy kink, bottom awakening, primal play, light biting, and a possessive MC. The spicy scenes are detailed and many, but there's always a sweetness to them. The chemistry between Hayden and Leander practically leaps off the page from minute one. They are each likable on their own, but they are even more endearing together. I loved both of them, immediately rooting for their HEA.

The book goes into some of this universe's vampire lore, enough to tease and leave me wanting more. I would love for more to be explored in future entries of this series, and I'm hoping they include a few of the supporting characters from this one (especially Nick and Thomas). This may have been my first time reading J.F. Miev's work, but it will certainly not be the last! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

A Fun Vampy Book

Pucking Vamps
Blackmoon University 1
J.F. Miev, Aria Clark

Hayden's background and financial circumstances make it difficult to really date anyone. When the college hockey Coach threatens his scholarship he's in a panic and feeling down, despite the other guys on the team saying the latest results are not his fault. Everyone has a bad day, and he's a great forward, aiming to go pro.
So, he heads to a club with the team and meets an incredibly sexy guy who seems to be stalking him through the club with intent.
Their night together is amazing but it's a shock when the stranger who took him to a mansion and flipped him upside down, is new temporary Guitar tutor, Leander Adetu.
Things get complicated when Hayden needs a place to stay, and Leander of the Adetu Clan, needs a fake boyfriend to stop his mom from interfering in his love life.
This book was a lot of fun, and it was good to see Leander be firm with Hayden reducing his angry outbursts and fractions with fellow team player Park.
There's a lot of animosity between the two and a throwaway line plus a blond Twink vamp hint at a possible sequel involving this side character. He certainly needs someone to take him down a peg or two.
Whilst it's a business arrangement between Hayden and Leander, feelings start to develop, the chemistry and spice is four chillies hot and there's also a lot of caring and nurturing which leads to a closer bond between the two men.
There's lots of laughter, sweetness, exhibitionism plus primal play and discipline.
A very enjoyable vampy rom com.

This was a super cute, sexy, and fast read. It was really fun and I enjoyed it! However, there were a lot of tropes going on and it sorta felt like too much at times. We had vampire/human, student/teacher, hockey player, fake dating, and fated mates! I felt like the student/teacher aspect was the least important and could have been lifted out to make the book a little less “busy”.

I liked how Hayden and Leander met and the sexy scenes were always pretty hot. The push and pull of them figuring out they had real feelings was cute. I would have actually liked more scenes of them being cute together.

The vampire lore could have been explained a bit more, we were just kind of dropped into it and I personally would have liked more depth to this aspect, but it wasn’t a huge turn off or anything.

I liked both characters for the most part, but Hayden was a little annoying and immature at times. Especially with his “plan B”, if he didn’t make it as a pro hockey player he could easily be a rockstar; the delusion turned me off him a little. He seemed all in with Leander and felt mature in the relationship so for him to be so cavalier about his future and his living plans in the beginning was strange.

Overall, I did really like it and I would be intrigued to read a follow up on the annoying teammate that was giving closeted energy.

I chose to read ‘Pucking Vamps’, because … it was called ‘Pucking Vamps’! I mean, come on. Ice hockey players and vampires!
This is the first book in the ‘Blackmoon University’ series, by new to me authors Aria Clark & J.F. Miev
Honestly, I wasn’t sure what to expect from this book, what a got was a really enjoyable , fun read that kinda does what it says on the tin. And that’s a good thing.

This story is cute, utterly daft, low angst goodness. I didn’t have to think too much reading it, it was honestly just sweet, sexy and a lot of fun.

We’ve got Hayden, the college hockey jock who’s looking for a break into the pros and Leander, a sexy, kinky vampire (yes, stay with me 🤣) . The two end up as roommates and a ‘fated mates’ relationship develops.

there’s a lot to enjoy here. Sassy banter, one night stand, fake relationship, insta lust. Also we are looking at a healthy slice of spice! These two are hot. There’s light daddy kink, claiming exhibitionism (dude, your Aunty is like, right there! 🤣) , some biting (obviously) and a lot of chemistry.

The story is fairly simple, surprisingly sweet and a little silly. It really was the break from reality kind of read I didn’t know I needed. Give it a go.

Read if you love
Hockey player/ Vamp
Insta lust
Low angst
Fated mates
Light kink
Lots of spice

Possible TWs
Mentions of past parental death
Mentioned car accident
Mentions off page suicide

Rating: 3.5/5
Spice Rating: 5/5, lots of it

Ugh. I wish we could do half stars.

This was a fun and quick little read, tbh! I’m a sucker for vampires (lol) and I’ve been in a hockey romance mood lately so I figured this would be perfect! It was great up until it wasn’t :/

The premise is super fun! MMC1, Hayden, is out at a club with his friends when MMC2, Leander, appears out of nowhere (as vampires do). Hayden and Leander are both obsessed with the other right away after their night together, which leads to some goooooood smut. Breeding, primal play, daddy kink (no age play), bratting, probably others I’m forgetting. Chef’s kiss on the kinks

Howeverrrrrr, I think there are too many tropes fit into this book for it to work well given the length. The student x professor relationship is barely relevant, the hockey player MMC barely plays hockey or even mentions it, and the spicy scenes just… don’t fit with the characterization outside of the bedroom? Idk how to explain it exactly.

(There’s also the mild pet peeve of the fact that I don’t think the author is from the US and doesn’t have a great idea of how US universities/higher education work so things are weird from that aspect, too.)

Thank you to the author for the ARC in exchange for an honest review 💕
