Monsters of Mistwood #2

Bowling with Bigfoot

Rate this book
Welcome to Mistwood, WV - a small town where the monsters are real and so is the romance.

Hazel Reed considers Bigfoot, better known as Eric “Big E” Sasqui, to be her mortal enemy. She thought she’d never have to deal with her annoying, academic rival again after graduation. But sure enough, ten years later, he’s her biggest competition on the bowling alley lanes. Her life is stressful enough without the towering hunk hanging around.

When sparks between them start to fly, Hazel will have to confront the secrets she’s spent years keeping, including knowing just who is responsible for a leaked photo that ruined Eric’s life. But is the lifelong theater nerd ready for how the former jock will react?

There’s nothing Eric desires more than being able to live his life in the open, not having to hide his true Sasquatch form, but life got a whole lot harder when a tabloid photo of him put the public eye on Mistwood. Bowling helps him escape his overbearing family, but there’s also the added plus that it puts him in close proximity to the curvy girl who always caught his eye back in high school.

When Eric concocts a plan to help Hazel with the struggles she’s been hiding, he’ll put her acting abilities to the test and turn them both into a viral sensation on the spicier side of the internet. What happens when the two find that they’re no longer playing for profit and instead falling fast for their former opponent? Are the pins split against them? Or does Bigfoot have the balls to roll for romance while there’s plenty of heat to spare?

Bowling with Bigfoot is the second standalone novella in an interconnected small town, monster romance series, and it includes open door scenes intended for adult readers. An Author Note about the content is included at the beginning of the book for your consideration

This was the CUTEST, SWEETEST, SEXIEST book ever!

Follow Hazel, a beautiful, hard working, West Virginia gal who happens to be spectacular at bowling. Hazel was raised in Mistwood so she’s used to seeing banshees, chupacabras, and all other mythical creatures that come to the safe haven town. She even grew up with Bigfoot and happens to be his mortal enemy..or so she thinks.

The tension in this book was so thick you could cut it with a knife! The transition from “frienemies” to lovers is spectacular. The history between the main characters, the resolve, the spice, the friendship, it was all Chef’s Kiss. I genuinely cannot wait for the next installation in this series.

I honestly didn’t think I could like Eden Crowe any more after I read Dirty Deals Over Decaf, but here we are. And I do. Bowling with Bigfoot was stacked against me. I hate bowling and everything about bowling alleys, but now… I might visit my local lanes just to see if I can catch a glimpse of Bigfoot and maybe get a pepperoni roll. Bumpers up game, though. I know my limits. This book was a perfect mix of spicy, cozy, and sweet and I cannot wait for the next Monsters of Mistwood. Mothman is my favorite. 😏

Eden can really do no wrong in my eyes. This story follows what we think are “rivals” but in all actuality it’s just been a misunderstanding. Hazel & Eric are so much fun and the town of Mistwood is just a grand place to be. HIGHLY RECOMMEND you read this! Eden’s writing is just so captivating and really sucks you in.

Eden Crowe has done it again!

After reading the first Monsters of Mistwood book I didn’t think I could enjoy a book so much more, but I was proved wrong.

Hazel and Eric had the mortal enemies mentality and although everyone around them seemed to see they would be a perfect match for each other they never explored that thought. Until one night at Starlight Lanes when Big E stood up for Hazel, causing her thoughts to drift to what they could become. But would her big secret cause issues between the two before they even have a chance to see where their relationship evolves?

Through many trivial moments these two realized they were perfect for each other. The ending was my favorite part of the book almost tied by the two wood scenes.

I cannot wait for Mingling With Mothman!!

Full of heart ❤

I laughed out loud more than once on this adventure! Eden Crowe has created a wonderful world of creatures full of character. But not all is as it seems. Blinded by societal expectations Hazel fails to see what's right in front of her eyes. My only complaint is that I wanted more!!

Shout out for the curvy girl rep 🤩

Want a sasquatch who's not afraid to go to wild and inventive lengths to get his girl. Then this one's for you.

Small town rivals into lovers.

This is book 2 of the Monsters Of Mistwood series. I read book 1 when it came out and got a peek into Eric and Hazel’s story. She has always thought they hated each other, that they were mortal enemies. One night outside the bowling alley she finds out her mortal enemy, may not be who she thought and her feelings begin to shift.

He’s from a traditional family. Her family, aside from her sister in rehab, died leaving her to pick up the pieces for herself and her sister. She needs money to keep helping her sister and he helps her get it through very unconventional means.

This story is hot, it’s sweet and literally made me laugh out loud. The Singin In The Rain and RHPS references are 🤌🏻 to me as an 80’s kid and musical gay. This is a quick read and really helped me get out of a horrible slump. (The book I read before was a wretched DNF.) This book saved me from the hell that is my endless TBR.

Thanks for my advance copy Eden! I’m so excited to read the next book. (If you’re not following her on TikTok, you should.)

Tropes and TW’s
Enemies to lovers
Primal- chasing (yeaaahh baby)
Profanity
Death of a family member
Substance abuse
Crappy parents

"Bowling with Bigfoot" by Eden Crowe is a short, sweet, and spicy read.

Set in the small town of Mistwood, WV, were humans and monsters coexist, This story follows two high school rivals who, 10 years later, are still trying to one-up each other. Hazel Reed (human) juggles working three jobs, spends her free time bowling, while Eric Sasqui (Bigfoot) is set to take over his family business. Hazel is trying to make ends meet the best way she can, and Eric proposes a business proposition that has them putting their mortal-enemies relationship to the test.

As a connoisseur of Monster Romance, I loved this story! While the ending felt a bit rushed, it was still a sweet and easy read. I wish we'd seen more of Hazel's realization that she'd fallen for Big E. Her response to his declaration of love reminded me of high school, when you felt obligated to say "I love you" back. Although we saw Hazel's attraction to him—she even tried to get it out of her system—I think a longer story could have shown Hazel falling for Eric in a more believable way.

I thoroughly enjoyed Eden Crowe’s writing style, and I will definitely be grabbing a coffee of “Dirty Deals over Decaf” to read in anticipation for the release of “Mingling with Mothman”.

SWOON WORTHY

GOSH I loved this. I inhaled it in one sitting and I couldn't put it down. Once again, Crowe nails all the Appalachian cultural references-- bonding pepperoni rolls (and yes they are 100% nutritious!), the tasteful references to the opiod crisis, the fact that they're BOWLING in their small WV town (IE the only fun thing to do here when I was a kid 🤣), and the "watch for deer" references. As a West Virginian myself, that phrase HIT ME when he said it because I knew, before the author had to explain it, that he was in DEEP with his feelings. The Only Fiends account was such a fun spin and GOSH it got HOT. Primal woods chasing? Bite claiming? Plus sized FMC being tossed around like a rag doll? *fans self* The "enemies" to lovers trope was so good in this. They're sarcastic and witty and competitive af. This novella gives everything. It was the perfect amount of plot build-up, romance, spice/smut, story climax, and conclusion. I feel like i got everything I wanted.... including me sobbing at the HEA at the end 😭🤌 Now Im dying for the next Mistwood resident's story! 1000/5 ⭐️ please read this ASAP!

This is my first Eden Crowe book, but not my first dive into monster romance. And despite the negative connotations associated with the word "monster," this book was nothing like it. Instead, it was sweet, heartwarming, and yes, oh so deliciously steamy. As it is a novella, its plot was simple. The main characters, Eric (a sasquatch, who can alternate between his human and beastly forms) and Hazel (a curvy human woman), are long-time rivals who have enjoyed challenging and outwinning each other since they were teenagers. Their circumstances eventually change, and they find themselves in a situation where they are made to work together for both their benefits. Eventually, boundaries are crossed and life-changing revelations are made, all to the reader's delightful satisfaction.

This book is all good feels without the heavy weight of a complex plot, thereby making it quite the relaxing, blissful read. I enjoyed this one from start to finish.

I received the ARC for this book, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I fell in love with Mistwood in Dirty Deals Over Decaf, and was so excited to be back in this world. There was a nod toward the first book, which I soo loved.
Hazel Reed, or Red, was such a fun character to get to know. She’s sassy and fast on her feet with the banter, and felt wholly relatable. She’s a hard worker, and wonderful sister; working three jobs to make ends meet and provide for her sister in a way that really (without spoilers) helped me connect with her character.

Eric Sasqui, or Bigfoot, is a bit of a rebel, but at the same time still a good boy. Hes pushing the generational boundaries of his name, and learning to be who he wants to be. He’s protective, caring and so much more than just Bigfoot.

The whole “Only Feinds” thing was genius, and a fun plot point I definitely didn’t see coming.

This was the perfect little October enemies to lovers, slow burn, monster smvt novella with the cutest HEA.

I cannot wait to read the 3rd story in this stand alone series

I absolutely adored this novella!

Hazel is a great FMC who has spent her life obsessing over her "mortal enemy", Eric. But when he steps in to protect her from a guy who can't take 'no' for an answer, she starts to reevaluate Eric's character.

Eric/Bigfoot lives under the shadow of a controlling (though well intentioned) family of sasquach who have loosened the apron strings enough for him to live outside the family unit, though still within the confines of Mistwood. Though, that's not the only reason he hasn't ventured further from his hometown. Having harboured a crush on someone who openly hates him for a heartbreakingly long time, when a most unconventional opportunity presents itself for them to, ahem, work together, he jumps at it with open arms.

This was a cute, cinnamon-roll filled read, and I can't wait to read more from Eden Crowe!!

This is my second Eden Crowe book is wonderful reading, and this is humor, sweet, and steamy monster romance with a happy ending. Such a quick and easy read. FMC makes readers believe at beginning story is they’re enemies and later become lovers but MMC doesn’t think so from beginning. They have many important moments these two realized they were perfect for each other. If anyone likes spicy books with non human main characters you need to read this. This book was fantastic is a definite must read.

I absolutely laughed the entirety of this book. I was given the opportunity to read this as an ARC and I am so glad I read it. The banter between Eric and Hazel is comedy. They’re rivals but are they? Hazel is working hard to stay afloat when she gets an unexpected offer. Does she take it? Or does she continue with the way she’s going? Despite this being a monster romance this book gives you all the warm and fuzzies. This is a novella so it was a quick and prefect read for a break in a heavy series I am reading. Highly highly recommend if you’re looking for monster, cozy, and spicy romance!

This book is just as good as the first book in the series. As the title suggests the MMC, Eric, is Bigfoot. The FMC, Hazel, is human. The book is an enemies to lovers trope, because that is what Hazel thinks she and Eric are. Going into this book I expected some things but there were still some twists and turns inside of it.
If you like spicy books with non human main characters you NEED to read this!

I believe!!!

What a fun story! When Hazel told Eric that she needed money, I did not expect his answer! What an unexpected twist and I loved it! If you’ve seen the TikToks, you might already know, but if not, don’t go looking for it. My mouth dropped and I laughed out loud. Go in blind, if you can. This story is so much fun to read, and so sexy. I can’t wait to read about what happens next in Mistwood, WV.

Eric & Hazel; Bigfoot & Human.
Eric & Hazel start off as “mortal enemies” because Hazel believes that’s what they are. She sells a photo of him to get money to help her sister & thinks he will again hate her for these actions, but that is and never was the case with Eric.
Eric might be a Bigfoot, but he never wanted to hide from the world so when his plan to win Hazel involves selling himself to make her money. Falling in love was never her plan, but he always loved her!

I really wish these books were written in dual POV. I adore Eric and wanted to get a glimpse into his thoughts. I know, that’s selfish of me, but I can’t help it. This book was fantastic—steamy, sweet, and with a happy ending. It wasn’t too long, had a solid plot, and best of all, there was no third-act breakup. I absolutely loved it!

Honestly the semi slow burn novella style of her writing is amazing but I’ve never been so invested in characters before. With out giving anything away I never thought I could live a cozy enemies to lovers situation but it was so good

Mortal enemies? Doesn’t matter. Hazel hates how attractive the big E is, but who can blame her? Not me! I’d take charismatic, alpha, big boy any day.
