Welcome to Covington Cove Island... where timeless charm and secrets intertwine, and every wave whispers a tale of hidden hearts and summer dreams.
Chloe Hayes is having a summer full of surprises.
First, she's one of the lucky few selected to work the most prestigious event on Covington Cove Island – the Covington Mansion Masquerade. She and her dad desperately need the money, especially after her car breaks down on her way there.
Then, a handsome stranger mistakes Chloe as his date and she spends the night pretending to be another girl, all while being swept off her feet by the charming Asher Blackwell.
Asher, from one of the wealthiest families on the island, eventually realizes Chloe isn’t who she said she was. Instead of being upset, he asks her for a pretend to be his girlfriend so he can get both his parents and notorious mean girl Isla Covington off his back. In return, Asher will pay off the money owed to fix Chloe’s car.
In another twist, Chloe receives a video and clues to a scavenger hunt from the recently deceased Eleanor Covington. She isn’t sure how to solve the clues, but she now has Asher on her side to help.
Except… fake dating Asher isn’t as easy as Chloe thought. Between secrets kept and jealous girls, things don’t go as well as she planned. And the clues? They're just as difficult to solve and twice as confusing.
Will Eleanor’s riddles uncover secrets Chloe never thought possible?
Can Chloe and Asher put aside their differences and mistakes to follow their hearts?
Tropes: ** Mistaken Identity ** Fake Dating ** Opposites Attract ** Small town romance ** Scavenger Hunt
Danielle Keil grew up and spent the majority of her life in the Chicagoland area. A recent transplant, she is enjoying the Mississippi life, especially the pool in her backyard. Danielle is happily married for over 10 years, and has two young children, a daughter and a son, who are exact replicas of her and her husband.
Danielle's love language is gifts, her Ennegram is a 9w1, and she loves everything purple. The way to her heart is through coffee, chocolate and tacos (extra guac).
Anddd we’re back in Covington Cove, where the TSITP and obx vibes are still going strong. This series has become a must read summer series for me. The twist and the turns, the scavenger hunts? You’ll have yourself always wanting more.
Chloe and Asher have the best chemistry! Asher is beyond charming 👀the cinderella vibes 👩🏻🍳💋And the swiftie references added to the perfection. Not to mention fake dating, is my favorite trope and this book does it so right!
I loved the book's premise and was glad I wasn't disappointed. This book follows Cloe and Asher, who meet under a false identity as she pretends to be his date at the masquerade ball where she works. Asher soon finds out and strikes a deal with her instead. She pretends to be his fake girlfriend and in return, he pays to fix her car. While Asher comes from one of the wealthiest families in their town, I liked that he was a caring guy with an actual personality. The chemistry between the two was present which helped me root for them to be together. I liked how they could have serious talks and open up to each other. In addition to this, Chloe finds herself having to solve a scavenger hunt. Therefore spending more time with Asher as they work to figure it out. If you want a book with, fake dating, rich guy x poor girl, and forced proximity. This book is perfect. The way the book ended also left me with some questions so I can't wait to pick up the other books in the series.
Thank you to Danielle Keil for giving me a free copy in return for an honest review.
I am so incredibly honored to have received this book as an ARC from the author. Mistaken Hearts was truly such an amazing story that had me hooked from the first page and I loved it. I seriously read the entire book in one sitting because it was that good and I just had to know what happened next. Chloe and Asher are the absolute cutest and I just loved their chemistry. They are so supportive of one another and they had so many adorable moments throughout the story. Chloe additionally was so relatable since we both have thoughts constantly going through our heads at all times. My favorite character in this story though is Savannah because I see myself in her. I was able to relate to her so hard with all of the struggles she goes through in the story. Overall, this book had me smiling so hard. The combination of Cinderella, a scavenger hunt, and all the Swiftie references throughout made my heart so happy. I can’t wait to read more in the series and I highly recommend it.
This is the second book in the covington Cove series, and unlike the first one, i felt it had more TSITP vibes that outterbanks vibes, but they were both still there!
It just made me feel *good* like the number of highlights I have on my Kindle? Insane. The small microscopes included? amazing. The plot twist/surprise that happened? SHOOK. These books are honestly so great, and I 100% recommend them. This has to be among one of THE BEST romance books I've read.
The mmc asher is like if avery and jameson hawthorne had a son, and oh gosh, I love him! The things he says and does? 🤭 The fmc chloe is so sweet and honestly breaks my heart. Having lost her mum and moving to the island with her dad, due to a failed buisness incident they struggle for money making chloe have to grow up quite quickly and worry about money for the house and bills. These two go so well together. The way the characters grow together and get to know them on a deeper level is great. Asher helps chloe with her mental health and to go outside her comfort zone. I love their dynamic!
Thank you so much for the arc, and I can't wait for the next covington Cove book 🫶
Chloe and Ashers love story is like one out of a fairytale. Not only is there another scavenger hunt, but Chloe Hayes is finding out what it feels like to actually be seen. They met at a Masquerade, where he called her the wrong name and the rest as they say is history. Chloe is a gennie, who never got the chance to grieve when her mom passed. She went straight into survival mode to make sure her and her dad stayed afloat. Asher is a blackwell, he's never had to worry about money, but he knows what that depression feels like because of his sister. They seem so different and yet, while they pretended to date so Asher could get Isla and his parents to back off and Chloe could pay for her car, they were perfect for each other. He truly saw her and she grounded him. Together they were cinders and ash. This series is quickly becoming one of my favorites. If you love sweet romance with fake dating and a scavenger hunt adventure, you'll want to pick this book up immediately!
Mistaken Hearts by Danielle Keil is the second book in the Hidden Hearts series and it did not disappoint. The MFC Chloe gets mistaken for a girl named Penelope at the Masquerade Ball and instead of working, she ends up being Asher Blackwells date. Asher the MMC has totally fallen for Chloe and his family invites her to dinner. This book had me laughing and crying and just not wanting to put it down. It has small island romance, fake dating, mistaken identity, and of course Chloe is from a lower class than Asher. Let's not forget a scavenger hunt and the fact that Asher, ever a gentleman rides a motorcycle. If you collect book boyfriends you will want to add Asher to your list. He is by Chloe's side and never let's her fall. I am eagerly waiting for the next book in the Hidden Hearts series.
Danielle Keil has a way of writing series that get better and better with each book! She has delivered with the Hidden Hearts series and we are only on book two!
Mistaken Hearts is a fake dating, small town, opposites attract romance that is full of excitement and hope! Chloe and Asher are just so cute together! While this is a young adult read, it definitely brings the feels and the sweetness to their romance. Asher is definitely a character I didn’t expect but love so much! This book was just so good! I can’t get over how much I’m loving this world.
This book was so great! There was such an exciting end to this one and I can’t wait for more! I’m excited to see what Danielle Keil has coming next! I definitely recommend this book for all to read!
Thank you for giving me yet another book boyfriend!! I want my own Asher!!! So good!! I loved the continuation of the scavenger hunt from another person perspective!! The cliffhanger at the end though!! I need book three like yesterday!! I am so excited to see how this all comes together in the end.
What will you find? - mistaken identity (at a masquerade ball) - fake dating - small island town - scavenger hunt - class differences - hero who rides a motorcycle and lives life to the fullest
I love a cute laugh out loud YA and this is just that. Chloe and Asher meet in a case of mistaken identity turned fake dating. Asher is the only person Chloe trusts enough to help her with her scavenger hunt. He’s loyal and the definition of golden retriever! I can’t wait to see what the next book has in store 🥰

Fav quotes:
“I think you’re gorgeous, funny, quick-witted, humble, beautiful, kind, and I also think I might be in love with you. Would you like to go out with me? Want to be with me… just to be with me?”
I am always looking for clean sweet teenage romances for my daughter to read. This book did not disappoint. I loved every aspect of it. Mistaken Hearts is the second book of this series and I pray the third one is released soon! Both books have made me laugh out loud, get angry, and cry and both sad and happy scenarios. If a book can make me cry it is well worth it. You will fall in love with Asher and Chloe and their sweet story. Check out Danielle Keil's other books as they are all just as good!
Brief summary This young adult, summer romance focuses on Chloe and Asher. Chloe is a teen who is trying to keep her and her dad financially afloat. Ever since her mom died, Chloe’s dad goes through periods of depression and this forces Chloe to be the adult of the household. With bills constantly coming in, Chloe starts to feel like she is drowning. Cue in privileged, bad boy Asher. Chloe meets Asher at an event that she is supposed to be waitressing at. However, Asher mistakes Chloe for his blind date. Chloe decides to play along and realizes that even though Asher is wealthy he is not at all what she thought he would be like. Asher voices that he would like to see Chloe again, but Chloe is torn between keeping up this charade or actually coming clean as to who she really is. Eventually, Chloe does decide to reveal who she really is and Asher admits that he already knew. He convinces Chloe to help him out by continuing to fake date him.
Throughout their “relationship”, Chloe and Asher get to know each other better and realize that even though they are complete opposites they mesh well together. Chloe sees Asher for more than the rich, risk-taking guy that he is, and Asher pushes Chloe to step out of her comfort zone and live life.
And how does the book end, you may ask? Do they end up in a real relationship? Well you’ll just have to read it to find out.
What I Loved I loved that Chloe wasn’t a teen who had no cares in the world. She was very independent and had a lot of adult responsibility on her shoulders already.
Asher. That’s all I have to say. Asher was all around just an amazing book boyfriend. He was bold, daring, sweet, kind, and always put Chloe first. He was definitely not afraid to go against what others expected of him.

Scavenger hunt on a cute island? Check. Fake boyfriend with a motorcycle? Check! A thoroughly enjoyable beachy read with all the feels and a mystery to solve? CHECK CHECK.
I adore this series! Chloe and Asher are a fun new addition to the crew at Covington Cove. This book hits so many of my favorite themes and tropes, all while leaving me kicking my feet and turning pages when I should be getting to bed. Can't wait for the next book!
Brilliant story. Full of angst and intrigue. I adored reading about Ash and Chloe's love story and of course the family history research. I don't want to say too much as I don't want to spoil things for the next reader. What I will say is that it's a lovely romance with a HEA. However, I'd love to know who's sending Chloe messages??
I wouldn't say it's bad, it's just... Meh? Really uninspiring?
In all fairness, I'm only reading the second book because I already had it and wondered if there was any increase in the quality of the writing between the two installments, but I'm not really seeing anything worthwhile.
This was a very interesting story of finding yourself and then your family. It's very well written and I truly enjoyed reading it. It starts as a blind date for teenagers and turns into something much more.
I enjoyed the initial romance focus in this (which had been lacking in the first book), even though Asher was too nauseating for me personally, but the conflict came super early and then the rest of the book was about the scavenger hunt and family history and it was a real slog to get through.
How cutie!!!!!! Asher is truly an angel. Chloe is so sweet. What a fun little book! Loving the forbidden and fake dating. Their love story was adorable. Not sure if I’m going to read the other books in this series but we’ll see!
Loved the revelations that happened in this book. Loved how this book connected to book one. Great journey through self worth, love, and excitement. Of course would recommend this book to anyone and can't wait for next book!!
