When Leo started college, all he wanted was to be just another ordinary student. During the years he would spend at Mythos, he wouldn’t be a dragon god, a prince, or even his parents’ son. Living and studying there, he would have the chance to be the kind of person who goes to parties after classes, makes friends with classmates, and maybe even asks a girl out. The kind of person—student—whose biggest worries are bad grades, getting turned down by a cute girl, and boring or unlikeable teachers. He should have known things wouldn’t be that simple.
Well, he did make friends, went to some parties, and even started dating more than one girl, something he was quite proud of. However, in less than a semester at college, the young dragon found himself in more trouble than he could have imagined. And this time, he couldn’t blame Thalia or Morgana.
He had barely gotten used to his dorm room mattress when his nature and an impulsive choice to help a classmate put him face-to-face with something that, in hindsight, he might not have been ready to handle. However, this was about to change.
Thanks to Tris, Leo and Alice found out about Calabar, a demon prince who seemed to know a few things about the mysterious organization behind the recent incidents. And, with a little help from a certain dragon goddess, Calabar would share his knowledge, albeit reluctantly.
Leo didn’t know the extent of Calabar’s knowledge, but every piece of information would be extremely important. This information, after all, could give them the chance they had been waiting for—to stop being on the defensive and merely reacting. Depending on what they could extract from the demon prince, they could be the ones on the offensive, finally bringing peace and resolution to all the wronged, all the victims.
This time, Leo and Alice would be ready for whatever awaited them, and no amount of homework would stop them from seeing it through to the end! They just wouldn’t say that aloud where a professor might hear them...
There are some fates that even gods know better than to provoke.
Right, so got a few thoughts on this one. Ultimately I recommend the read and will look forward to the next one.
Now some thoughts: First up is the good, continued story progression seems to be going pretty good. Ideas and plot line continue to intrigue and are interesting. The dynamics between different characters is honestly pretty great. One thing I think very highly of is the interactions between the MC and sorta the older “authority figures”. Those are absolutely on point and great. Love em.
Something I HIGHLY recommend would be a small chapter at the start that’s basically a “previously on” because I could not for the life of me remember too much what happened in the earlier books, nor who a majority of the characters were. I was actually pretty lost and struggled with what was happening etc till probably %50-60 of the way through before things picked up a bit and I got back into it.
Now some less good stuff that could use some work:
The general flow of the writing and the grammar. This didn’t really clear up til later in the book so the first 3/4 I struggled with. An example is: This is a good armor, and I’m sure whoever the dragon that originated these scales was, they would………. Or: This clearly had the effect of making the young people there even more nervous, feeling as if those strange gray eyes could see the deepest truths about them. The eyes part in the larger context of the paragraph doesn’t Flow well with the writing. Almost like it’s too officious type of thing. Or it feels like it’s been fed through a translator. That’s probably the best way to describe it. I kinda wondered whether voice to text was used or maybe that English isn’t the authors first language. There were some passages in there that reminds me of an Asian Cultivation/wuxia style of writing that’s been translated and some things were missed.
All in all pretty good but has some rough spots. Still with that I’m looking forward to the next one.
I'm so excited to finally have a third book, and it did not disappoint! One of my complaints is that the main fight in the middle dragged on a little too long for my tastes, and it didn't help that there was a lot of heavy fighting back to back. That being said, the only other thing is that I felt a lot of girls didn't have a lot of new developments, they were present certainly but they don't have the same depth they did in the previous books. I am happy with the way the story is going, and all in all, I'm looking forward to the next book!
The first half of this book continued with the story line from the end of book 2, which was well paced and interesting. The second half of the book dealing with the upcoming Academic Olympics to be tedious and drawn out. I found myself struggling to get to the end of the book. Based on the author’s thoughts and direction of this continuous series in his afterwords, I probably will give book 4 a chance, but the story line and pace will need to be more concise. If it’s not, I probably won’t finish the book and series.
The battles in this was truly epic. The competitions for the students crack me up and I love how competitive the friends get with one another, and how supportive they are once the competition ends. Leo's opening up more, relaxing and being more free to be himself now that he no longer has to hide who he truly is. I really enjoyed this one.
The humor is fantastic and the story moves at a wonderful pace. The intrigues the characters endure are very challenging and keep the reader guessing. The characters are terrific, bold, and full of life and depth. Sincerely hope there will be many more books in this series! Looking very forward to Book 4!
If your a lover of fun fantasy stories for adults this is a definite must!!! I have laughed, cheered and felt the pain of the characters!!! Sometimes even in the same brief moment of the story!!! Love this series!!!!
