As you can expect, this isn't a real review of NULL, since what author can review their own books?
I'm just here to thank you for picking up my Celestial Academy books, and to hope that you enjoy and continue enjoying them. I wouldn't be able to continue writing without your word of mouth and your enthusiasm for my work!
Firstly, thank you to Olivia for allowing me to ARC read book 2.
I'm going to do this review a little differently to how I normally review...I usually write it when I've finished a book, but for this I'm going to comment on the way through reading. So be warned there may be ****SPOILERS**** but I'll try my best to keep them to a minimum.
First couple of chapters threw me....I was so confused, hopeful and then freaking out. Then came the relationship between godawful and azz, couldn't stop giggling about the reaction Godric would have on his face. Especially near the end of their meeting 😜 Wtf is with Godric, he's just admitted OUT LOUD to azz about his feelings for wen....and then the next time he sees her he goes all angelhole on her AGAIN!! Go Sarah! I'm so glad nothing bad is going to (hopefully) happen to her. Wen and Sarah's dynamic is so nice, then throw in a bit of Jinny and the banter just gets better. Where the Hell is Godric. I keep expecting him to just pop up somewhere out of the blue but this is getting rediculous, he can't be dead surely? Also, loving Matt, she's bloody great. I hope she's going to show up alot more as the book goes on. Lorcan gives the best pep talks. He's like a big brother to Wen. I love how bad Wens aim is. WTF is happening at Noctis. Wen has no luck litrlaly she cannot catch a break.....I'm not going to mention what happened at the end of the book, but what a cliff. Need book 3 ASAP to find out what happen next.

I LOVED this book. I was an ARC reader for free and I thoroughly enjoyed Wen and Godawfuls story. This review is voluntary and my honest opinion.
Celestial Academy Null is the second book in the series. The story picks up right where Celestial Academy Essence ended.
I particularly liked that in this story it was Wen that was so open and forth coming about what she wanted from him while he was reluctant. But his heart stopping testament’s he would throw out…so good!
“I tried to rip out my own Energy so you’d come back to me. I would have torn through the very fabric of existence if you hadn’t. I would do anything to get you back, always.”
“I covet every second with you, every spark of you. I crave your every delight and disaster, my bane.”
The end left me wanted more! I can’t wait to see how the story continues and evolves.
I loved this book! I might of even enjoyed it more than book one, which is saying a lot because I loved book one. I loved the spice, and heartache. The banter still made me laugh a lot. The story is just getting bigger, and better! I cannot wait to see where it goes in book 3.
This Fantasy Romance is book 2 in the Afterworld series. The romance in this book is intense. There is a ton of angst, and tension as Wen, and Godric are still trying to fight. their feelings for one another. This book has lot of spice. Between the dreams, language, and spicy scenes this book is the perfect amount of spice. The plot still remains priority in the book. The book moves at a steady pace following Wen and Godric as they work through their feelings, while navigating through life in the academy. Wen remains true to her character, causing issues for Godrick to intervene in drastic ways. Wen, and Godricks hilarious banter continues on from book 1, This book gave us a deeper look into both Godrick, and Wens characters. The author was able to grow the world consistently throughout the book, making the book exciting until the very last page.
Wow, this book was everything I could have hoped for and more! In fact, I think I liked it more than the first one. It had everything—tension, action, drama, and plot twists galore. The dual POV's in this book really are crucial for the story, and I love reading from both of their perspectives. From start to finish, I was completely hooked.
Overall, this book exceeded all of my expectations, and I can't wait to see what comes next in the series!
My fave quote: "You unravel my certainties and unhinge my foundations. Ever since I dragged you into my life, I've been trying to rebuild my convictions, to restore the tangled threads of my path and the scattered pieces of my being. But nothing fits together anymore, and I'm at a loss on how to proceed. How to be."
I thought Essence was the best book I read in 2023. Now I'm certain Null will remain the best book I'll read in 2024. I'm still reeling from the whole rollercoaster, of emotions, revelations, twists and that clifhanger? How could you do this to us Ms. Pharos? HOW COULD YOU? And book 3 is when? HOw could I wait for it now? I want to start a support group for all of us who are now roaming around with out hearts torn out by those last pages!
If you haven't read this amazing series by this amazing author, do yourself a favor and just hop on this. If this doesn't become huge, there's absolutely no sense in this world.
I cannot get enough of this series! By far one of my all time favorites!!! I couldn’t put this book down and I have no idea how I’m going to make it until the next book!! READ THIS SERIES ASAP!
Null was even better than essence. The spice level is right on par with the story,. So many unanswered questions, but promise of a third book, so phew!! All the character development is wonderful, I feel like I'm part of the UNITAS when I'm reading.
I really would love to give this book a scathing review because of the cliffhanger, but unfortunately I can not! I did read some other reviews that said this was a confusing read compared to book 1…I did not find that. Yes, there was A LOT happening…or not happening (poor Wen)…but again, it was juicy and exciting.
I was happy too see the other girlies in the Book developing into bad ass queens! I do wish Godawful had continued Wen’s training more so she could have been way more bad ass, but I imagine that will be coming in the next book. Wish I didn’t have to wait until November!
This book exceeded my expectations. Yet again Olivia Pharos wrote a book that I completely fell in love with. I was a bit nervous that it wouldn’t live up to the first book but I actually think I prefer this one a little bit more.
It genuinely had everything I could ask for: action, drama and of course plot twists (my favourite). I love seeing Wen and Godric’s relationship develop, the sexual tension was real.
The book ends on a cliffhanger and I absolutely cannot wait for the next book in the series.
Thank you to Olivia Pharos for letting me on the arc review team I loved the first book when it came out and had to get on the book 2 wagon when I heard it was coming out through the newsletter I get from Olivia.
This book had me laughing and crying with the one liners and the insults thrown between Godric and Wen and even Wen and Jinny. I liked the character development for all the characters mentioned in the book but I also liked the addition of Matilda. I liked the fact that she seemed to like Wen almost instantly and wanted to be her friend. I also liked that Matilda wanted Wen to give her a nickname to be called by as she likes her nicknames for everyone else. For me though the nickname that I always crease out laughing is Chicken Wings 😂🤣
Can't wait for the next book especially after that cliffhanger 😫😩🥺 Olivia that was just awful. Now the wait for the next to be written I guess.
If I thought the first book made me love the series, this one just made me love it more. It keeps you hooked the entire way through with so many twists and turns and a slow burn to die for and a cliffhanger leaving you wishing the next book was out already. Already counting down until the next book in the series is released. This series has easily become one of my absolute favorites!
I didn't even think anything could top Essence, the first book in Afterworld. Null? It took me by complete surprise, and shattered all my expectations. How? Let me tell you.
In today's romantasy "market" all books follow a formula, and while you're reading, you know exactly what to expect, from book one, book two, book three...etc. The only difference between books now is in little variations in the actual details and the level of competence of execution.
In book 2 of Afterworld (what I understand is a 5 or 6 book series) we don't get the usual second book in a series beats. We get a deep plunge into the developing passion between Wen and Godric, the Unitas, with the introduction of Godric's GLORIOUS POV (the very BEST MMC POV I've EVER read) and the developing characters and relationships between everyone else, amidst the backdrop of a slow burn plot (I read some reviews that said there was no plot, and these must be those who have been conditioned to expect those same-old story beats, since there's a LOT of PLOT, just not what they've been conditioned to expect) There are so many developments, so many revelations, so many TWISTS, i'm still reeling from it all, and not only from the sucker punch ending.
Read this as it was written, as a very rich and deep dive into Afterworld's ominously brewing conflicts, the introduction of major players who will no doubt major prominently in the building Apocalypse, while really savoring the obsession and passion rumbling between Godric and Wen, as they finally discover that they ARE a disaster in the making...and have your heart torn out with them wondering how and if they can get around that to be together.
And then get to the end and wonder how you'll pick yourself up from the shattering blow of the final scene, and wait for what comes next.
I'm off to re-read this series from the start and savor every incredible word Ms. Pharos wrote, and the rich world and relationship she's building in the perfect pace, not rushing to get the expected beats of plot colored in, but to let it all unfold slowly, deliciously, deeply, and so expansively.
And the spice? There's LOTS of it, but it's NOT what you expect either. There's no rushing here, and the reason not to is compelling. But from what I read so far, I do know that when it's full on sex scenes, it's going to be devastating!
PS. This is a long series, and the world building is complex, and the players are ALL fleshed out. This shouldn't be read on its own merit and not compared to any other trope or series. In my opinion, it surpasses all the popular ones, because it's so unpredictable and rich.
Bottom liine is, if you like unpredictable stories, original developments, unexpected and unique characters and relationships and to be taken by surprise at every turn till the last word, this is the series for you.
Celestial Academy Null picks up right after the conclusion of Celestial Academy Essence. Godric and Wen attempt to delay and hide the extent of Wen’s abilities that were unmasked in the trials. Despite their best efforts, Wen is revealed to be a null, with the ability to remove and neutralize the magical abilities of others. Now Wen is more at risk than ever, as people either fear her enough to kill her or want to control her for their own personal gain. It’s imperative that Wen learns to control her abilities, but can Godric and Wen work past their sexual attraction?
Godric’s attraction to Wen has grown to an all-consuming degree, threatening to undermine and undo all of his careful plans. In an attempt to mitigate his obsession, he often withdraws and hides from Wen. Unfortunately, his sudden disappearance causes Wen to fade and become frantic to find him. Their relationship seems almost toxic due to the degree of dependency Wen displays and the amount of controlling behavior Godric engages in. As the sexual tension grows, sparks fly to a degree that causes collateral damage to the surrounding environment.
Overall, I enjoyed this next installment of the Celestial Academy series. However, I became a bit frustrated with Wen and Godric’s relationship being the primary plot of this book. Wen is an extremely scrappy, street-smart woman, and for her to essentially shut down from Godric’s disappearance was strange. While she does still work on finding him and researching, the complete depression she falls into was frustratingly uncharacteristic. She’s so wrapped up in her emotional dependence on Godric that almost no development occurs with her Unitas. Since Godric engages in so much avoidance behavior, there’s also very little that is done to help train Wen so she’s capable of using her skills well. Thankfully, all of the relationship angst building does have major plot implications later. The book does end on a cliffhanger, and I am looking forward to the next book in the series.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
5 Stars! I received a free ARC from the author, this is my honest and unbiased review.
WHAT. THE. F*CK. I need book 3 IMMEDIATELY!
This book picked right up from where the last book ended and as soon as I started reading I was once again sucked into the Celestial Academy World! I found myself growing even more attached to each of the characters and even more stressed with their trials as the book progressed.
In this book we finally start to get chapters in Godric’s POV and just when I thought this book couldn’t get any better and the tension couldn’t pull any tighter, we get to hear just how much Godric is restraining himself when it comes to Wen. But as all good things must come to an end, Godric’s chapters always ended leaving me wanting more! Every time I got to the end of a chapter I would cross my fingers in hopes it was another Godric POV. I couldn’t get enough of the building need he has for Wen through these first two books!
What’s great about Godric in Null is that we see a completely different side of him, than what we saw in Essence, and without spoiling anything we see just how far he’s willing to go for Wen… even if it includes a demon giving him a solid smack on the bottom! 😂
Wen’s sarcasm and dark witty sense of humor is back with a vengeance in book two and I couldn’t get enough of it! I loved seeing her growth throughout this book, and I even enjoyed a little bit of her backtracking on progress.
I loved that throughout this book over both Wen & Godric’s POVs we can see just how much both characters are questioning everything, with the one constant being just how much they want each other…
Ms. Pharos did hint very strongly to a free fall ending and at one point even asked readers not to hate her too much for how Null ends. I can without a shadow of a doubt say back to Olivia… my impending hatred is dependent on how fast I can get book 3 into my grubby hands😂😂
Will they get together by the end of Null, or won’t they? You’ll need to read to find out!!
••••• 4.75⭐️/5 ~🇬🇧 -First of all thank you very much to the author for this wonderful ARC😍. Here's my honest review. ~How wonderful, people! I loved the first book and this one has been no less. And even though it's long (much longer than the first one, I'd say) you appreciate it, because you can't stop reading. The drama, the tension, the DRAMA again. I have to say that in certain occasions the situation: "I'm pissed off, but I see him and I get angry, because oh I'm crazy about Godric" is repeated many times and it gets a bit repetitive, but well... the DRAMA that produce🤌🏼 ~The plot itself... I still don't see it at all, as I say it's very vicious but the plot isn't fully developed, because we still don't know much about the FMC's powers (although here we get more information already). ~And well, the characters... The UNITAS girls are the best, and I'd love to see a development of the relationship between them. The FMC is still crazy as ever, and the MMC... 😏 a very intense grumpy one. ~Wanting to read the third book 😍
3.5 stars. I'm rounding up because the story is fresh. Needs a good/better editor, please reign it in. But it is Free with Kindle unlimited.
I'm really conflicted with this book. I loved the first book, couldn't wait to jump into this one.
I absolutely adore the story. I enjoy the writing, truly the witty banter from Wen, priceless. But it kind of comes across as pretentious with the large amount of "big words", seriously there are so many moments that take me out of the story with why did she pick that word/phase. We get it, either she's really really smart or a "Joey" with the thesaurus. *Friends reference. In my opinion the author is pushing the line between, I want every one to enjoy my books and I'm better than everyone because I know big words
While I enjoy dual POV, it's my favorite to hear both sides. But the Godric chapters were confusing to the story line or were incredibly drawn out, telling me absolutely nothing. WTF is going on? Let's pile secrets on top of secrets and give us no bites as to where you're going. Do we even know where we're going? By the end, I found myself more annoyed at the robotic internal conflict. So much woah is me, but giving us readers no real insight to why we need to feel anything for Godric. Dual POV should give actual insight to both characters. There was no emotional growth with Godric's chapters.
Godric's Asmodeus chapter, what did we get out of that. I learned nothing, fine Asmodeus has a crush on Godric, whatever! Then Astaroth and Godric's fight chapter. Just left me annoyed, page after page of a random fight scene only to end in a weird conversation that provided no new information, added nothing but annoyance. Fine, the author wants this drawn out into 5 books. But if she gives us nothing but more questions for 4 books... 🤬🤬
I will be reading book 3. Hopefully it gets reigned in and actually tells us something. 🤞🤞
I was provided an ARC of Null in exchange for a review.
This book picks up immediately after the events of the trials of the last book. The story starts at Wen’s POV as she slowly returns to the world of the conscious and the Unitas awaiting her. I needed some time to recall each of the members of the group, but the author quickly helps the reader establish Wen’s relationship to each member— whether it’s mutual distain or respect. Her Unitas becomes more important to her as more challenges await. From book one, we knew there was something extraordinary about Wen, which is why she was conscripted to the academy, but finally she is given a classification, a Null. Even with this title, what are the implications that will affect Wen?
I couldn’t rest until Wen and Godric were reunited and he refers to her as “My bane”, I became elated. What has Godric been up to? The simmering tension from book one is brought to a boil in this book. It is filled with mutual pining, obsession, possessiveness, and all consuming thoughts.
I took comfort in reading from Wen’s POV chapters. I immensely enjoyed her snarkiness. Favorite quotes: “He’s threatening me with f***ing kale?” “I’ve amassed quite the assassination recipe book. I bet it would mark a bestseller if u published it online. How to Kill a Heartless God(ric).”
Even in the Godric POV chapters, his motives still remains a mystery, but everything he does is carefully calculated.

Aaaah, this book ends in a cliffhanger.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
This book picks up where book 1 leaves off. The character growth of Wen was both humorous and endearing. Wen is coming into her own, but she is finding herself feeling things for Godric that she shouldn’t but is unable to stop. Godric is also in a precarious position because he was originally instructed to destroy Wen, but he simply cannot hurt his obsession, except while in training.
The push and pull between Wen and Godric are never-ending. For a book that is so long you would think they would have hooked up so far but not this is definite slow burn with so much sexual tension that you find yourself getting agitated. While Wen grows in power her relationship amongst her Unitas go through their growing pains. Although they continue to bicker; Wen realizes that despite their differences her Unitas has her back.
Wen is growing stronger everyday and once its revealed that she is indeed a NULL it has everyone at Celestial Academy giving er the side-eye simply because she is the very being that can NULL/take their powers if the situation arises.
Wen and Godric’s push and pull relationship has left them with huge targets on their backs. Many are out to destroy Wen and Godric is standing in the shadows ready to eliminate any threat to his mentee/obsession. Godric is ready to rick it all for Wen but someone has other plans for him and Wen find herself at the precipice of indecision when Godric is taken away from her only to find herself faced with the one person she has been trying to avoid….Samael or as well as know him as Lucifer.
Like, what in the world does he want and how do Wen and Godric play into his grand scheme of things?
I absolutely adored Essence. it was my very top read of 2023. I've been waiting with bated breath for the next installment in the series, and really afraid it will not, CANNOT live up to the perfection of the first book. Then came Null. I devoured it in one sitting. A ten-hour sitting where I could barely breathe, and only had to move for absolute necessities. After it ended, I sat staring into space, because—that ending? it wrenched my heart out. Not only because it was as the author herself described as a "free fall ending" but because everything in this masterful book, the emotional build up between Wen and Godric was done so poignantly, so perfectly, when the final blow came, it crushed me.
Now I don't know what to do with myself, or how to read other books. I mean, how can I follow this up? And how can I wait for the next book in the series?
I really can't stop thinking about this book, and all I can do now is go back and re-read. I will update my review after the first re-read (because I know I will re-read it far more than once. I read Essence five times so far, and every time it gets better!)
If you can't tell from all of the above, I can't recommend this book enough. I really have no words to say how much.
I'm sorry, but this book is worse than the first one. I feel like the whole book is Wen just talking about how much she loves Godric, but there are never really any scenes that can back up why or how she loves him. Just that 'theres a connection.'
I don't know, the whole book just felt too forced, and it's more of just a running inner dialogue of Wen and her feelings. There are some POV's from Godric, but he's more broody than anything, and nothing makes any bit of sense. I think because the author wants to keep you on your toes and make you guess, but it's nice when the author is keeping a secret and lets you in on some information. With this book, none of that happens. Just more secrets, and so many questions. Ironic, since that's all Wen does is ask questions.
Plus, normally a fan of enemies to lovers situations, but this enemies to lovers draaaaaags on for far too long, and there are about 10,000 excuses and more inner dialogue for both of them about why they can't be together.
It's annoying and exhausting. Not a fan of this book or this world building. Almost feels like the author is trying too hard, trying to take bits and pieces from other fantasy books and mash them all into one. Just not a fan.
As Wen continues to navigate her new life and her relationship with Godric, secrets can't be contained. Too many people know about her powers. When Godric abandons her, their bond rears its head in the most inconvenient time at her most vulnerable. She is left to fend for herself. Again. Trusting anyone to protect her has always left her flat on her back. Now she is on the precipice of another horrible enslavment hoping that Godric decides to show up and save her. He's been gone for weeks. The odds of him rescuing her are slim.
Godric has his own secrets and his own plans. His feelings for Wen can't compromise the carefully laid plans he has. Getting away from her is the only way to go back to how things were. Cleansing her from his system should do the trick. To keep her out of his system he may need to stay away. Forever.
This book was not my favorite. The plot, if you can find it, was pretty loosely structured. It seems like a bunch of tropes were thrown in a blender and put into the book. The last 30% made no sense to me.. I had high hopes but unfortunately I won't be continuing with the series.
I just want to say wow. I want to start off orginally starting this series I really came into with no expectations. But it has definitely exceeded them. What’s absolutely amazing about the series is that it’s a true & fun slow burn. I love that there’s the enemies to lovers. In this particular book, we finally get to see Wen & Godric or shall I say godawful lol get to be more intimate and expose so much of the repressed feelings. There’s definitely a lot of push & pull that adds on to the excitement when godric finally gives in to it all.
However, with that has definitely came catastrophic situations, In where everyone seems to be high or influenced by something that causes absolute mayhem at the club. Now, although I did relatively like all the things that happened in club, it was also breaking my heart for wen, as she literally has to be the only one sound of mind to deal with all these self-destructive powerful beings going at it, ESPECIALLY GODRIC. I do think this did drag on quite a bit more than it should have. Overall, I would definitely recommend reading this series and can’t wait for the next book already!!!

"I tried to rip out my own energy so you'd come back to me. I would have torn through the very fabric of existence if you hadn't. I would do anything to get you back, always."
-----------
If you loved the first book, you will absolutely love the second one. We see Wen trying to give and show her love for Godric while all he does is try to fight it. This is a battle of wills between them where he doesn't want to love her, but can't help it, and all she wants his love to be let in. Let me just tell you, when he gives in 🔥 🥵
----------
"There's nothing to do now, but let this hurricane brewing between us take its course, destroy what it may in its path."
"Those bastards wanted to take you away from me, physically. That's a threat I could, and did easily thwart. Your Unitas want to deprive me of you in a more profound way. I've decimated cities for far, far less." His still burnt and broken hand cups my cheek in utmost care, even as his calmly unhinged eyes inundate me with indulgence. "Once they're dead, nothing will ever come between us again."
I'm gobsmacked, not only by that devastating ending, by every single chapter. Godric is definitely my all-time obsession and best ever book husband, and I can't remember when I last felt I "inhabited" another FMC skin and sensations and thoughts, and became her while reading the book. I felt everything she was feeling, saw it, suffered it. And Godric's POV, I felt I was still her, being obsessed over by this GOD!
The ending destroyed me and now I don't know how I can read another book, or wait for the next installment in this absolutely addictive and brilliant series!
I usually never start a series until it's done. But in this instance, even if it hurts, badly, since only two books are out, I advise that you read them, and suffer until the next one is out. The doses of pure pleasure these two books provide are worth ANY pining until the next one is out.
This series should be a mega bestseller, and I'm going to do anything in my power that it is, and that this amazing author keeps on writing and providing us with such masterpieces. You should too.
The absolute best second book in a fantasy series I ever read. The slow burn continues, but with igniting spice, and the deepening relationships between Wen and Godric, and Wen and her Unitas, and everyone else (Lorcan, Gideon, Tory, Astaroth) were perfection. Wen and Godric are now my ultimate power couple, and after that heart-wrenching finale, I can't wait for more. This is how a series should be done, not with a minor plot to be resolved in every book, but with a continuous build up of the major plot and the secondary plots in the background. They way Pharos is slowly weaving to cataclysm is absolutely breathtaking and masterful. I literally can't wait for February, and to read more of this amazing word and those unforgettable characters. I really can't understand how this series isn't already a mega bestseller. What's wrong with this market nowadays that only hyped books sell? Do yourselves a favor and read this, and enjoy the agonizing build up in romance and fantasy worlds like never before.
I received an ARC in exchange of my honest review. It's been a while since I read the first book so I was scared of not remembering things properly but, while we jump right into the aftermath of the first book, the authot also manages to sprinkle little bits of information for the readers that may have forgotten things and I super appreciated that! I feel like this book can absolutely be divided into two parts, and the second half is waaaay stronger than the first one. HOWEVEEEEER, it gets better. A lot better, in my opinion. And it works in a crescendo. I wasn't able to put it down after the 55% mark. This book was a lot more focused on characters instead of plot development and the pace felt slower than the first book but... THAT ENDING. MISS OLIVIA, WHAT IS THAT ENDING. WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO US?? I will absolutely be on the lookout for the third book. Please just give it to me!
I didn't enjoy this one as much as the first one, unfortunately.
It was too repetitive in writing style, with both characters just repeating the same things in their inner monologues to the point of annoyance.
The cliffhanger at the end was interesting, which bumps this up to probanly 3.5 stars, but the rest was just a bit too much in the pining for each other, hating each other cycle.
Also, I feel Wen is acting out of character for someone who is bright and resourceful. She completely shuts down at one point and doesn't even look after herself really. And I get that it's the void and her connection with Godric, but at the same time, she doesn't even really try. Just seems a bit much, compared to her normal character.
Total honestly here. I received an ARC of this book and I had to DNF it. The storyline had a lot of potential, but I found the writing to be chaotic and hard to get through. But what really got me was when the author sent an email to her arc readers requesting that they NOT post a review if they didn’t like the book. “If you didn’t like the version you read, I would rather you didn’t post about it at all”. Her asking her arc readers to essentially be dishonest in their reviews put such a bad taste in my mouth that even though I read and enjoyed the first book, I will not be continuing with the series.
I was given an advanced copy of this book from the author.
This is such a great continuation of Wen's story! The character growth shown is amazing throughout Null. Wen not only grows her strength, but her confidence and her friendships grow is such an amazing way as well! We also get to meet (and are reintroduced to) some amazing side characters, as well as the return of the wonderful Godawful himself. This book has a deliciously slow burn, heartbreak, drama, epic battles and so much more. You won't be able to put it down!
