Since losing her husband in combat, Kendall Smith has forged an independent and satisfying life, running catamaran excursions around the reefs surrounding Key West. As a devout Christian, faith and morality guide her. So when she suspects her new neighbor, the lust-inspiring David Bryce, of dealing drugs, there’s no question that she and her quaint neighborhood need him jailed. Six years...and possibly his soul. That’s what ambition has cost David Bryce. After turning his back on his former career with the Key West PD, his inside knowledge gained him tremendous status within the very cartel he once pursued. Vowing that nothing and no one will stand between him and the score of a lifetime, even the lure of ‘redemption’ in the arms of the luscious blonde next door won’t forestall him. But attraction is as reckless as a tidal wave, driving them both into treacherous waters. Behaving in ways she never imagined, will Kendall’s faith founder? Can love truly save and redeem? What Kendall and Bryce discover about each other will threaten more than this young widow’s sensibilities, and push the limits of what even Bryce will sacrifice. Can he love her without killing her? 'I have received this book from the author in return of an honest review.' To start off, this is one of the most creative non-paranormal, non-scifi, non-fantasy nor fairytale fictional romance stories I have ever read...and I have read a lot of books. The characters were well thought out and their discription had me visualizing them without ever seeing one picture of them. The setting and location for each scene was beautifully discribed being to where I almost felt as though I was there with the characters. It was a wonderful new take on 'I hate you, but wait, I just may love you'. There where several twists and turns and so many feelings flowing that I got mad, sad and excited right along with the characters. Excellent job Annette Francine! I can't wait to find out what will happen in 'Eyes of a Stranger', as I am starting on that now. ~AC Wright (WaAr)~
I won this book in a blog hop so it isn't maybe the genre or style I usually go for but I thought it was interesting. The premise for the story is interesting and the characters well thought out. I think that some parts of the book could have been better. I did think it talked over much about being sexually frustrated and libido being overactive in an unnecessary way that detracted from the story line. So yeah, overall it was well written and an interesting concept but I think would have been much better if it focused more on story line and less on repeated remarks and thoughts on their libido. As a side note, it describes the book as a romance with a Christian twist but there was a detailed sex scene and decent amount of language so for those who are offended by those things this may not be the book for you.
