Advice My Parents Gave Me
And
Other Lessons I Learned from My Mistakes
By
Rodolfo Costa

Summary...

Quotes, thoughts and life lessons about how to live a contented and  fulfilled life as experienced by this author.

My Thoughts...

This lovely book is filled with tips, thoughts, quotes, stories, and lessons that are truly inspirational.  The book is unique because you really can read and reread it in any order depending on what your particular thoughts are or needs are at any given time in your life.

The book is divided into 16 sections that are all filled with inspirations.  Reading this book was a rewarding experience for me.  I read it out of order and I read it when I needed to read it.  I read it when  I was a little sad or a bit concerned about some part of my life that I didn't like.  This book was a reminder to me to live life fully and appreciate each moment and use the gifts and talents that I have.

My copy is filled with bookmarks of my favorite parts...here is one of my favorite thoughts...

Live your life with a purpose, looking forward to something every morning!!!

There are many more delicious thoughts in this book...quotes by Abraham Lincoln and Steve Jobs and Buddha and Michael Jordan and more...many more...but it's the authors thoughts that were the most meaningful to me.  I get the feeling that his lessons are the best ones...the ones that are truly meaningful and ones that he is willing to share.

The book is not an instant pick me up but rather a means to think about things in a more positive way.  It is calm and soothing  much like a visit to a spa or a lovely garden or a quiet  stroll through a park.

It is a book that can be read and reread.  There will always be a bit of something new...some unique provocative thought that will help you when you need it to.

I truly loved this book and will read it over and over.

I like the way the book is divided into separate chapters and emotions, making it much easier for you to find the helpful quotes you need quickly. Full of hints and encouraging snippets of advice on different aspects of how we live our lives,.

The layout of the book is simplistic and basic and is laid out into individual bullet points which are sharp and straight to the point but some of them could do with a little bit more explanation on how you could change or what you do do better.

Would be great to keep with you at all times, just to pick up and re-read the thought provoking sections you need to uplift your spirit to help you get through.

The author does stress the point that you should be really grateful for what you have achieved and acquired in your life and in order to progress, you cannot harbor resentment or regrets and to every problem you can work out a solution.

Anyone who is looking to change the way they lead their life or looking for inspiration, this book would be great for them to read. We can still learn from other people and if we keep all our secrets they will be lost forever, fortunately, this will never happen with this book.

Thank you to Rodolfo Costa for sending me this book as a First Reads winner! I love getting free books in the mail!

This book is a positive books of quotes and ideas that can help a person get through a challenging time. Although there are not sub-titles or headers for each section (which I might suggest would be helpful so a reader could go right to specific advice and quotes) the book seems to be divided into sections such as believing in yourself, achieving goals, self-improvement, finances, enjoying life, relationships, parenting, and health. As I tend to be a sequential reader, I sat down and read this book from beginning to end fairly quickly, but this is more of a book to look to when one is struggling and find the advice that is helpful at that point in time. It does not need to be read in order or read all at one time.

My favorite advice from the book:

#21 You are not finished when you do not get the result you want, you are finished when you give up. Never give up!

#70 What you imagine inside of you will help you bring to reality what you will create and manifest outside of you.

#75 Do not be impatient; good things come to those who wait. Just do what you need to do when you need to do it, and be persistent. Success may be just around the corner.

#154 You will always get what you expect to get.

#178 Break away from negative beliefs and ideas that have been passed on to you and that you have learned since you were born. You are responsible for yourself. You are capable of creating a better life for yourself.

#249 Do what you say you are going to do. Give your word and carry it through. Be accountable and you will get the respect and trust of others.

#268 Sometimes what we think is the most insignificant daily routine could turn into the most wonderful source of joy.

#270 Learn to relax and do nothing, it will help clear your mind and rest your body.

"Ask the young, they know everything." Joubert

#338 Learn to love someone when they least deserve it, because that is when they need your love the most.

#387 Erase from your vocabulary the word "someday." Do not save things for special occasions. Remember that everyday is special. Every day is a gift that we must appreciate and be thankful for. Wear your nice clothes, wear your nice perfume, use your nice silverware and dishes, and drink from your nice crystal glasses....just because. Live everyday to the fullest and savor every minute of it.

#400 Your age is an asset. Feel great about your wisdom, your talent, your skills, and the experience you gathered throughout your life.

The mistake I made with this book was attempting to read it straight through.

The introduction reminded me of a motivational speaker. Not bad, so much, just...you can hear that swelling tone of voice, and get a mental image of someone jabbing their finger in the air or at the crowd with that microphone headset strapped on. It actually made me chuckle a little.

The tips/advice are great! But not read straight through. When you read straight through, they get very redundant. Each one is a newly worded cliche. And since people get tired of cliche's, I think that was a brilliant way to go about it. But unfortunately, a lot of them are repeated, with just slightly different wording. There are 400+ 'lessons', but I think in actuality there are really maybe 200-300.

But it's not a bad book. This is actually the kind of book I like having around. These are perfect for Daily Affirmations. It's the kind of book you put on a coffee table (if you have one, which I don't) and pick up every day and open to a random page. The blips are very inspirational, and they would give you a wonderful jolt of energy to start your day.

I'm glad I won this. I am going to enjoy having it around. Just not going to try to read them in order again.

‘Advice My Parents Gave Me and Other Lessons I Learned From My Mistakes’ by Rodolfo Costa is a self development book with 409 tips and advice on living a more successful and happy life. Most self and personal development books, at first impression, seem to tell you what to do with your life. This book is fun. It gives you tips, advice, etc., based on a wealth of experience, yet you feel free to use the information as you wish.

On the front cover Rodolfo Costa adds: ‘409 thoughts, quotes, lessons, ideas, suggestions, reminders, words of advice and encouragement to lead a successful, rewarding, peaceful, happy, and fulfilling life’. This is indeed what he covers. He also shows you how to look on the problems and setbacks in your life as assets that help to create your character and to constantly self develop and grow as a person. The book is a great collection of personal development tips that could change your life...if you put them into practice!

Thank you Mr.Costa for your wonderful book. I recently finished reading and I'm planning to read it again for a deeper understanding. I remember that one said, if reading more of the same book many times, it can result in different concepts and views from the reader, and I hope to have this result in me.
As the first time reading your book, this is a summarized version of my opinion: First of all, you strengthened our basic knowledge about life. Secondly, your quotes showed strong conviction of the basic right and wrong of life. Thirdly, your writing style was unique and the language was elegant. And lastly, what you stated in your book was very precise but also at the same time, some are very difficult to accomplish.
Once again, thank you very much for your book. I really, really liked it.

Im so happy I recieved this book from the author himself!

The book is a compilation of 409 quotes and sayings. I read it in one sitting anf found many points that motivated me at the moment to do better; change some negative points in my life.
Many thoughts were repetative but written in a diffrent manner . I think It was meant to be like this because people understand the same thought diffrently.
I will use this book in the future and I think its a good idea to keep it next to you when youre writing an encouraging e-mail to a friend.

I won this on first reads.

I have heard so many of these tidbits over the years and, like others, just brushed it off. Reading all of these thoughts, I found ones that I had forgotten, some that I wish I could have (because I am guilty of not listening to them, but should) and some that I had never heard but made incredible sense. I will definately keep this one forever and when I need a dose of the logical sense for someone else or myself.

A redundant list of things most of us already know. I guess it could be used when we get caught up and forget our parents advice. A little disappointed, was hoping for something more. Save your money.
