Rate this book
Connection is everything. Let the leading therapist to Silicon Valley’s top executives help you become super psyched by discovering your personalized formula for more energy, higher performance, better relationships, and a more meaningful life.

The harmful effects of loneliness and lack of fulfilling relationships are well-documented—higher rates of anxiety, depression, sleeplessness, addiction, and even premature death.

In providing nearly 20,000 hours of intensive psychotherapy, Dr. Adam Dorsay has effectively treated hundreds of patients, from adolescent gang members to survivors of torture to Fortune 500 executives and professional athletes in the pressure cooker of Silicon Valley.

The common thread? They all struggled with the same sense of seemingly unshakable unhappiness.

The solution? Restoring or creating the deep bonds of connection to what truly mattered in their lives.

Drawing on more than a decade of practical research and Dorsay’s groundbreaking work with Facebook as co-creator of its international resiliency program, Super Psyched reveals an innovative framework for readers to create their own Connection Formula—a customizable tool that allows users to strengthen their bonds in four basic with others, the world around them, their spirituality, and (perhaps most importantly) themselves.

Packed with actionable advice, unforgettable stories, and unexpected insights, Super Psyched is the ultimate handbook for unleashing the power of connection to live the life you love.

I was sent a copy of Super Psyched by Adam Dorsay by Book Publicity Services and absolutely loved it! The book dives deeply into the four types of connection and I found it to be a much needed exploration in today’s divided and disconnected world. As a therapist, I’ll definitely be recommending this to the clients I work with!

As someone who has hit reset multiple times in my life…the messages in Super Psyched really resonated with me. Adam Dorsay explores the power of connection in a way that feels eye-opening but also practical. The breakdown of the four types of connection helped me see how my own relationships, self-perception, and career choices have shaped the way I show up in the world.

This book ultimately confirmed something I’ve come to realize over time, which is…true fulfillment, my version of success, isn’t all about external achievements but about aligning with the right people, the right purpose, and most importantly, the right version of yourself. If you’re in a season of change, feeling stuck, or just wanting more meaning in your life, this book would help guide you in the right direction. It’s both insightful and provides actionable, steps to building a life you truly love.

Highly recommend for anyone navigating a reset or just yearning to deepen their personal and professional connections.

In a world where connection is much more accessible, it is no means easier, especially as we get older.

I have been a long time listener of his podcast and was thrilled to find his book just as approachable, insightful and fun.

When we think about connection, we mainly put more focus on the romantic, in this this Adam does a wonderful job of expanding our usually narrow idea of connection to 4 separate and helpful areas to begin to explore in more depth.

The writing is insightful, playful and easy to follow as we get pulled along in each chapter and a wonderful way to begin to explore how we connect to the world around us.

His perspective as an accomplished therapist provides a credible foundation for everything he discusses in the book, cheaper than therapy, and from the comfort of your own home or on the go.

It is a book that will always be helpful at any stage of life. I plan to revisit as I age and how I walk through and connect with the world around me as it takes on different shapes, this will reappear at each milestone as a familiar and trusting guidepost to reassess and recalculate the best formula for connection in all its forms.

In the genre of self help, no book is more essential than this.

While I’m not often the first to read books of this nature, I’m quite glad I changed my habits and read this book. Within the first few chapters I began to identify with concepts and ideas presented in the book, and began to explore my thoughts and perceptions in a way I hadn’t expected.

Perhaps one of the most profound things I learned rather early on in the book, was disconnectors. I am a self proclaimed expert at multitasking. But I hadn’t really realized that by multitasking. I’m not always giving myself time to refill my energy. And thus I’m unintentionally making myself more tired even when I’m doing things that I think are relaxing. The example that he gave was particularly profound because it was something that I genuinely hadn’t realized was a constant in my everyday life.

This book taught me more than I anticipated, and forced me to reconsider aspects of my life that I thought I had well in hand. And I can genuinely say I’m better for it. Even if this is not generally a genre, you opt to read, I would highly recommend it for anybody who has a desire to learn a little bit more about themselves.

This was a great read - really informative and easy to digest. I genuinely feel like I can implement so many of my tips into my daily life. If you liked Atomic Habits or Maybe You Should Talk To Someone, this one is right up your alley.

As a super fan of Dr. Adam Dorsay's "Super Psyched" podcast, I highly anticipated his book of the same name. It does not disappoint! Dr. Dorsay packs a wealth of insightful knowledge into this essential guide, making it feel like a conversation with a friend who not only shares the most fascinating stories but also offers fantastic advice.

I especially loved taking the "Connection Inventory" (pages 54-59). This exercise served as a powerful reminder of what truly energizes and excites me—what brings me joy and makes me 'super psyched.' Each page feels like it's tailored to help me understand and improve my own life, providing not just theoretical knowledge but practical tools and real-life applications that are both inspiring and transformative.

Whether you're a long-time podcast listener or new to his work, this book is a must-read for anyone looking to deepen their connections and live a more joyful, energized life.

"Super Psyched" has a permanent in my pink fridge of "cool books."

Super Psyched by Adam Dorsay is an absolute game-changer. In a world where disconnection has become the norm, this book serves as both a wake-up call and a guide—one that reminds us that true fulfillment begins with deep, meaningful connections. Connection to ourselves, to others, to the world, and to something greater than us. And Adam doesn’t just talk about why this matters—he hands us the tools to make it happen.

What sets Super Psyched apart is its real-world relatability. Adam’s storytelling is warm, insightful, and deeply human, making complex psychological concepts feel refreshingly approachable. Whether he’s sharing research-backed insights, unforgettable stories, or practical exercises that actually make a difference, he brings psychology to life in a way that feels empowering rather than overwhelming.

One of the most profound aspects of this book is how it expands the definition of connection beyond just relationships with others. Adam explores self-connection, the power of nature, art, ancestry, and even spirituality—reminding us that fulfillment isn’t found in a single place, but rather in a beautifully interconnected web of experiences. Each chapter closes with concise, actionable takeaways that make integrating these lessons into daily life effortless.

This book is a must-read for anyone seeking more joy, meaning, and genuine connection in a world that often feels isolating. Whether you’re looking to deepen your relationships, rediscover yourself, or simply feel more alive, Super Psyched will leave you feeling inspired, empowered, and, well… super psyched.

I’ll be gifting this book to friends, returning to it often, and recommending it to anyone who wants to level up their mindset and live more fully. Highly, highly recommended!

In my liking of analogies, I occasionally fail to reach my audience, but often it works. I will take the risk and start this book review with an analogy. When allowing myself a gut reaction to Adam Dorsay’s ‘Super-Psyched’ I spontaneously thought of a leaf-blower. No, not the obnoxious kind with a loud gas motor that required the operator to ware ear protection, but the efficient and relatively quiet, electrical kind. Dorsay blows away the dead leaves, the parts of nature that are finished growing. Once they are gone, the ground is clear for growing something new or for other plants to take up the cleared space.
To get away from burn-out and rut, he urges the reader to attach, first to self, then one’s immediate social surroundings, but also the world, and lastly, coming almost full circle by encouraging to development of a spirituality that can sustain the growth. How the four attachments are formed is inspired by personal experiences he is kind to share with the reader but even more so by anecdotes and case examples from his clinical practice as a psychotherapist. For reason of confidentiality we never get to know how exactly therapists behave in their sessions but reading his book made me believe that he is very creative and not afraid to have his clients tackle some previously avoided introspections.
Having said all that, I think it is time to get a copy of that leaf-blower and plug it in.

Super Psyched is a timely and deeply compassionate exploration of what it truly means to feel fulfilled in a world that is more connected technologically, and more disconnected emotionally, than ever before.

Drawing from over 20,000 hours of psychotherapy and work with an extraordinary range of individuals, from trauma survivors to Silicon Valley executives, Dr. Adam Dorsay reveals a powerful truth: unhappiness often stems not from failure or lack of success, but from fractured or missing connections. His clinical insight brings clarity to an experience so many struggle to articulate.

What makes this book especially impactful is the practical elegance of the Connection Formula. By addressing connection with others, the world, spirituality, and the self, Super Psyched offers readers a flexible and empowering framework rather than a rigid prescription. The blend of neuroscience, storytelling, and actionable guidance makes the book both emotionally grounding and immediately useful. It stands as an essential guide for anyone seeking meaning, resilience, and authentic engagement with life.

A copy of this book was given in exchange for an honest review.

If you’re not super psyched just from the blurb of this book, you will be by the time you have finished reading the book. The keenness with which the author writes is contagious. The premise of this book is based on the importance of connection, which is not a new phenomenon, but the author really drills the importance of it, and provides a convincing argument that what people lack most is connection.

I like this book because, in a way, it has multiple authors. The author draws from the wisdom of the numerous guests he has had on his podcast (which, make no mistake, he will reference a lot), and it’s really interesting as a reader to be exposed to these similar but multifaceted takes. I also like this book because the author brings a personal touch, using anecdotes from his own experience and secondhand experiences to make his points.

I would definitely recommend this book to people who feel like they are missing something in their lives. I don’t think every suggested connection in this book will work for every person, and it’s not intended to – the book lays out its premise and it’s up to the reader to decide for themselves what they might like to implement. That said, I do believe disconnection is at the root of most, if not all, displeasure.

As a licensed mental health therapist, I look for book recommendations that offer helpful psychological concepts in accessible, relatable ways, and Super psyched really offers that! I especially appreciated the concept of the connection formula which recognizes each person’s unique way of forming meaningful relationships with self, other, community and spirit. This book offers a wide array of emotional health insights in easy to digest language with real-world applications, making it ideal for those new to psychological principles such as mind-body connection, self-compassion, and boundaries. Adam Dorsay makes these foundational ideas easy to understand with engaging writing and generous personal anecdotes.

I just finished reading Dr. Adam Dorsay‘s book on connection and absolutely loved it! I think a lot about connection in general and think of myself as a good connector. Yet, so many of the things that he described about the phenomenon and how to apply connection in so many different ways opened up new ideas for me. I plan on using the very practical exercises from this book in my own life. Also, I loved the stories in the book that illustrated connection making it a really fun and easy read, as well as illuminating!

Audiobook:

The cadence of the author's narration is SOOOO choppy and robotic.
It's like a car that can't run smoothly. Constant start stop. Start, stop.

It's like a New York city road littered with potholes. Nothing about the experience was smooth or plesant to listen to.

DNF: The narration is FAR too dreadful to push through this. I loved the idea of exploring the topic of connection, but it's simply not worth it with this audiobook. It's unbearable.
