After scrounging up money by working odd jobs, Yuuki is finally on her way to her hot springs vacation with Iori. What lies ahead for their relationship is still unknown, but hot and steamy nights ahead aren't reserved for only the baths. However, upon arrival, they bump into a girl who seems to know Iori…?!
PHYSICAL RELATIONSHIP DEVELOPMENT!!! I AM YELLING.
Brother is sus and I kinda hate him. But I also love his style and the way he looks like Aya-chan hahaha.
RECAP: The two go on a hot spring vacation for Iori's birthday. She gets jealous because of his past dating, he clears it up. They soak together in a bath but no funny business. Then there's the funny business hehe. He ends up paying for the trip but then they get couple bracelets! Back home, the Seno and his friend sleep over at Iori's. Seno tells him he met his brother. She's with her friend and she sees Iori's brother and follows him and coordinates their meeting up. He's weird af and then promises to reconnect with his girlfriend.
Sadly, this volume doesn't measure up to the previous ones. It's filled with unnecessary tropes, miscommunication, and insecurities, making Yuuki's character, at her age, neither attractive nor interesting. The storyline involving the long-lost brother feels disjointed, and I hope there's a plausible explanation for all the drama moving forward. I'm disappointed, as the series started off so strong.
The saving graces of this volume were the art, which remains as beautiful as in previous installments, and the more realistic portrayal of affection and physical intimacy compared to other manga in the market. I also appreciated the camaraderie between Iori, Seno, and Jin, especially their support for Iori.
I still like Iori as a character—composed, reflective, patient, true to himself, and honest—and this was once again demonstrated. Jin also showed significant growth in this volume, and I'm finding his fairness and kindness increasingly appealing.
I have to wait till DECEMBER FOR VOLUME 5?????? This has become my favourite manga to date!!! Love Yuki and Lori’s relationship !! The hot spring chapters were so good!!! You can see how comfortable they are getting with each other now! I love how Lori goes with Yuukis pace and doesn’t ever make her feel pressured, it’s so warming to read. Ibuki is still silly imo but I feel in the next volume I will understand him more. I reallllly hope to see either in bonus content or in general chapters sanae and Kaji’s romance as I’m actually intrigued !! It’s very cute !! Think this was my favourite volume so far, this or volume 2 !!! Excited for more !!!!
Yuuki and Iori’s relationship development is EVERYTHING. I love how Yuuki is becoming more confident. And Iori is 100% yearning for her and it is giving me life.
The brother is irritating me, like bro, just speak your truth. You’re annoying asf right now.
And what do you mean I have to wait until December for the next volume? I am not okay. 😭
It is safe to say this is now one of my favorite romance mangas and I cannot wait to continue it!
Off to their hot springs vacation, things seem to be going really well for Yuuki and Inori, but Yuuki gets stuck in her head yet again. Then, the whole thing with Inori’s brother comes home to roost. Or at least play video games.
Yuuki is one of the most annoying protagonists in any shojo manga and I cannot even with her. She finally got her guy, they have gone away for the weekend, yet when she gets a whiff that Inori may have dated some girl in high school (which he’s admitted to), gasp, and she’s now a model, gasp, she starts going to pieces.
And she won’t say what’s making her upset, because communication apparently ruins relationships or something, Inori’s already said he isn’t going to contact this person, and she said she accepted his past. It’s so aggravating.
As usual, she’s like a junior high student in university. Yeah, jealousy, yeah, she’s inexperienced, but this pushes all the wrong buttons. Realism or no, it makes her more irritating than steel wool underpants.
Once past this section, things do get marginally better. Seno somehow hangs around as the other man, but not really, and the story does make him rather amusing with his incredible talents in numerous areas.
He also does the right thing by going against Ibuki (Inori’s brother), who was trying to sabotage Inori and Yuuki’s trip. Him coming clean about the whole thing was a nice touch. His continued involvement here is… odd… but at least he’s not a jerk.
As usual, Sanae steals all the scenes because she’s actually got a personality. Though it turns out that reports of her experience may have been greatly exaggerated. Her arc is mostly used as comic relief, but it really means that she’s actually interesting.
The whole brother thing is, in the end, dumb. I won’t spoil the big surprise of what he’s been up to, but it is very modern and makes it make even less sense that nobody has been able to find him up to now.
Everything about him feels ill-advised, from his potential attempts at meddling to his potential attempts to get Inori to date his own girlfriend instead of Yuuki. That’s a level of disrespect to pretty much everybody involved and I’m sure Yuuki is going to try and make it all okay, but sometimes a jerk is a jerk.
When this story decides to stop its nonsense and actually focus on the relationship side of things, well, it’s actually kind of fun. This is a sex-positive book finally and this honeymoon phase, once it gets going, is much more enjoyable than anything else.
The way Yuuki goes for it at the end of the volume is almost enough to make me want to read the next volume. This is just such a wildly uneven series, unfortunately, and, when it’s dumb, it is super duper dumb.
Partly the title lets this story down. Whether you believe in soulmates or not, the term implies a heck of a lot. None of which is on display here when Yuuki is getting so upset over trivial things that she shuts down. That seems super healthy for the future.
Better as it may get, I don’t know that I’ll stick with this since it’s a significant bit more expensive than most of my other regular reads and for very little reward. Sanae might convince me to stick around, but this isn’t her story, so she may not.
2.5 stars - rounded up for Sanae and the fact that the art is nice and there are a couple good moments nestled amongst a lot of time, plus sex positivity. Otherwise this is barely worth my time and money.
Book 4 of the series and I appreciate how the couple continues to make steady forward progress in the relationship. I enjoy how the conflict of this book didn't create any unnecessary wedge or back tracking between the couple but instead opened up a new way for the leads to interact and continue to navigate the relationship with one another.
Every single time!! They give me reason to stan them. I love Iori and Yuki so much it hurts. They are perfect together, truly soulmates. Gosh, so beautiful that I'm crying!!
I was worried to see which turn the plot would take but it went in a direction I didn't expect. the volume was really nice and I'm intrigued to see how the conflict will be resolved
