McKenzie James is better off alone. After tragically losing the person who mattered most to her as a teenager, McKenzie has learned that the easiest way to avoid getting hurt is to avoid getting close. Period. She spends her days focused on the job she loves, working at Katie’s Kitchen as the owner’s right hand, and her nights alone with her two cats. But beneath her tough exterior is a frightened girl with a broken heart that’s longing to be made whole again.

No one can find Luca Sterling. No longer able to numb his pain with sex, booze, and rock ‘n’ roll after his band calls it quits, Luca retreats to his hometown, holed up in his apartment with his phone silenced and the curtains drawn. When the universe sends him a sign bringing him back to Nashville, Luca finds the support of his friends and begins the journey to heal from his painful past. What he doesn’t see coming are the sparks that fly after a run-in with his friend’s prickly restaurant employee.

After a chance encounter leads to a night-long adventure, McKenzie and Luca end up confessing their deepest secrets to each other. Their walls come crumbling down, leading them to discover they have much more in common than they thought. But as the pair travel through the uncharted terrain of their new relationship, personal demons return to haunt them, and the two are faced with a choice: to hide from the shadows of their pasts or run toward them together. Coming Home, the fifth and final installment of the Midnight in Dallas series, is a story about embracing the broken pieces of ourselves that let the light in.

TITLE: COMING HOME
AUTHOR: MELISSA GRACE
PUB DATE: 09.17.2024

McKenzie James has built a wall around her heart and only has room for her two cats and her job at Katie’s Kitchen. Former rock star Luca Sterling retreats back to his hometown of Nashville for some needed healing. The two find each other but so does their past demons that get in the way of their happiness.

This final installment of the Midnight in Dallas series was like a huge hug for my soul. I just love Melissa Grace’s writing. Her masterful development of imperfect characters is simply the best thing about her books. I just can’t get enough of it.

Be sure to check this book out and the rest of the books in the Midnight in Dallas series.

This is so bittersweet. I ADORE the Midnight in Dallas series. I've loved every single book. It's one of my favorite romance series of all time. I was SO excited to finally read Luca's story. But so sad that it's over.

Y'all have seen me shouting from the rooftops about this series since book 1. And I will continue to yell this until the end of time: if you're not reading indie authors, YOU ARE MISSING OUT. I sent Melissa all my unhinged thoughts as I was reading and she graciously did not tell me to leave her alone or end our friendship.

Melissa has once again flawlessly executed Luca's story and the perfect end to the series we all needed. It's beautiful, it's heartbreaking, it's powerful, it's raw, it's relevant. Melissa will shatter you and glue you back together. She's like the sour patch kid of authors.

Mental health challenges are at the forefront of this story, and it is done with care, compassion, and authenticity. The healing journey is a complicated one, but so necessary and it is so beautifully done here. You will leave this book with hope, happiness, and a mended heart.

Oh, and the spice? Perfection. 👩🏻‍🍳💋

Do yourself a favor and read this entire series. I highlighted tons of quotes, but I'll leave you to discover them for yourself. 🩵

Coming Home is so much more than just another "romance" book. I was pleasantly surprised by how deep and layered this story was as both Luca and McKenzie were dealing with their own issues.

I also really appreciated the focus on mental health and how therapy can be beyond helpful when you need support when restructuring your life, especially after a loss and depression.

Of course, I jumped into this series by reading the final book first.🤪 This story read as a standalone and still gave enough information from previous books without creating spoilers.

In this story, the romance takes a backseat but is still quite dynamic. Luca and Mckenzie are the couple you want to route for from the very beginning. Their interactions were humorous and endearing, and I appreciated the realism of their situations as a couple.

Hi, welcome to the "Melissa Grace hurt me" support group. Want a cookie?

I've been waiting for Luca's book for an eternity and she didn't let me down. McKenzie is his perfect foil - someone who takes no shit and is brutally honest. They truly make a badass couple once they own up to their feelings.

What stood out to me was the neurodivergence and grief representation. The depiction of depression was spot on to my lived experience. Luca is in a dark place at multiple times during this book and can't trust himself to get out of it. But his support system loves and refuses to give up, and that's something that I want in my own life. All the while, McKenzie is grieving her brother's suicide. This book isn't as happy-go-lucky as some of the others, but it's really damn impactful.

I'm glad that Luca got his happily ever after (not a spoiler, it's a romance novel y'all) and developed healthy coping mechanisms for his depression rather than defaulting to self-sabotaging behaviors. Because man, he deserved it.

3.5/5

I've enjoyed reading all of the books in this series. Luca's story was always going to be iffy for me because I thought he would be a hard character to redeem, after his behaviour in the first four books.

I thought a pretty decent job was done on that front. There is a big focus on trauma and mental health in this book, with on-page therapy. It was good to see a book highlighting working through your issues like this.

I liked how respectful Luca was of Mackenzie, but we know from the rest of the series that he hasn't always treated women particularly well, so I really would have liked to see him confront the way he treated Brandi and apologise to her directly. She's even mentioned in the book but that situation never quite gets the resolution I'd have liked to see, especially seeing as we, the reader, saw the incident play out ourselves in a previous book. Having mental health problems doesn't absolve us of the harm we can cause and impact we can have on others, and I'd like to have seen him (especially as a man with money and social power) take a little more accountability for that. At times it feels like he plays the victim a little bit too much for my liking.

I didn't love the third act break up situation and it didn't help my already rocky opinion of Luca.

I have to be honest that this wasn't my favourite of the series, but I can appreciate the way it handled some heavy topics.

Coming Home is the fifth and final book in the Midnight in Dallas series. It’s the perfect book to complete the series.

Luca Sterling has been a mystery since book one and I am so glad to be able to finish the series with his happy ever after.

This could be read as a standalone, but you would be cheating yourself in the four other wonderful stories in this series.

This book deals with depression and suicidal thoughts, of just wanting the hurting to stop. Luca feels all that. He been hiding away in his apartment for months, lying to his friends. He has felt like a disappointment and not good enough.

He returns to Nashville to see his family of friends. He doesn’t want to live in the dark any longer. It’s there that he meets McKenzie James, who is also struggling with her own personal traumatic event. Their relationship starts out slowly as friends. They are both helping each other out with their issues. Soon, it’s more for both, but can it last?

It was so good to see all the band members and their families throughout the book. The last chapter and the epilogue bring the series together nicely.

Thank you to the author for my advanced readers copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Well, here I am again, touting the talents of an Indie Author. I received an ARC of Coming Home in exchange for my honest review, and I really liked it.

This novel did such an amazing job of representing mental health and therapy. At times I felt as if I was in therapy myself, it was that real. I loved that Mckenzie and Luca both had things to deal with and we got to see them wade through the waters of processing with them. I also LOVED that they didn’t “fix” each other. Grace did a fantastic job of writing about how you can only control and help yourself. You have to be able to stand on your own at some point.

The actual mental health struggles were written so well too. As someone who has some of the same issues, they felt spot on in their descriptions. When Mckenzie had a panic attack, all I could think was “that is exactly what it’s like”. Then Luca had a moment or two where he recognized this was something he would live with the rest of his life, but it didn’t have to define him. He just had to keep putting in the work so that when it all fell apart again, he would cope with it better. I just felt so seen through all of that.

I also really enjoyed the dynamic between Mckenzie and Luca. They were fun together and had me routing for them from the beginning. Mckenzie getting drunk and puking was one of my favorite scenes in the book. It was endearing and hilarious. I felt like she became my friend at that moment.

My main criticism is that the middle of the book felt like it slowed down significantly. The scene transitions didn’t feel as smooth, and I was getting bored reading about Luca’s career and music so much. I did like how it spanned multiple months which made the relationship feel more real. But I was ready to get on to the next thing by the time it came around.

I think this is a great romance novel with a little more depth to what you’re reading. I’m not sure it’s for everyone as there are some “triggering” things in here if you’re struggling with mental health. Please check the trigger warnings before you read. But for someone who is mentally in a good place right now, it was a great read and felt really relatable. That was the best part for me.

Thank you to the author for providing me with a review copy. Coming Home is the fifth and final installment in the Midnight in Dallas series that follows members of the Nashville-based rock band turned found family. I remember first reading Home Is Where You Are back in 2022 as a book club pick and falling deeply in love with the story and characters. As each book in the series was released, we were treated to revisit the world and see how things have developed in their lives as they transitioned as a band, as couples, and as families. But one band member remained - Luca.

In Coming Home, Luca and McKenzie are both intimately aware of the ways mental illness can impact lives. I appreciate how Melissa includes an author’s note with specific content warnings, but let me emphasize in case you decide to gloss over them – this book is heavy, it is raw, it can be triggering and will leave you sitting with some feelings. However, it is also laced with humor, with sweet intimate moments, and contains writing so beautiful I literally want to get lines (and lyrics) tattooed on my skin. Melissa did not hold back one bit with this book, which provides an all-encompassing emotional reading experience. I’ll also never be able to listen to My Chemical Romance again without getting teared up - I’ve already had a few cry-filled listens of some of my favorite songs since finishing the book.

While you could read this as a standalone, I really think you benefit from the context of the series before reading Coming Home – not only for the some of the little Easter eggs but also for the relationship dynamics. Melissa Grace is one of those authors who deserves all the good things, so please go read her books!!!

Wow, this book was amazing. It's a story about loss, healing love and that feeling of coming home.

We meet McKenzie who is still struggling after losing her best friend, trying to be a member of society while battling her own demons. She was so genuine and funny it was easy to fall in love with her character.

Then there's Luca Sterling, an ex famous rockband member who is currently deep in his own depression feeling broken, having a hard time letting anyone help him. He meets Mckenzie through their close knit friends and they realize they both have a tough past and are trying to help each other heal.

This book pulled at my heartstrings, the emotions, the strength that both characters found to ask for help while struggling was truly admired. Also, the close group of friends were such an anchor and friends that are hard to find, they were amazing.

Oh.My.Gosh! This is the perfect ending to a perfect series! It hit me like a ton of bricks, in a good way. I’m so glad I finally get closure of Luca’s story and get to know the amazing character of McKenzie. This book healed me in ways I didn’t expect because it hits very close to home for me with the subject matter. I cried a few times but it was a healing feeling and did not hurt my heart. I needed to read these words. Melissa’s books have always been magical to me, but this one is solid gold for healing properties! There are so many good quotes I want to write down in my journal and share with my therapist because they made me feel like I was not alone. My favorite troupe is “Found Family” and this group of friends, in this series, are the best found family who support and love each other through and through. It made me feel like I was a part of the story and it gave me comfort. I love this book and this series so much. Thank you to Melissa for getting this ending so right!

I've been eagerly waiting for Luca's story and I'm soooo glad he found his HEA with Mackenzie!! They both have mental health challenges and go to therapy for depression, suicidal ideation, grief and trauma. I love how they became friends first and transitioned into something. Overall this was a beautiful story about building yourself back up over great loss, found family and second chances!! I am sad to say goodbye to the Midnight in Dallas fans but Melissa has written the most heartfelt story to truly do all the characters we've come to love the absolute best tribute possible!! Many thanks to the author for an early digital copy in exchange for my honest review! I voluntarily read and reviewed this book and all opinions are my own!!

**Check the trigger warnings before reading the book **

This was my first Melissa Grace book and I really enjoyed it. The themes in the book were really well thought out and showed the harshness of suicidal ideation and grief. I thought that the FMC was really understanding of the MMC’s needs while also leaning on her support system when she needed help too.

This book is a wonderful conclusion to the “Midnight in Dallas” series. I have enjoyed reading each one and this one is no exception. I love the mental health issues brought up in this as many including me struggle with various mental health issues such as anxiety and depression. The representation of these issues felt authentic I read an advanced readers copy, but my review was unbiased. I look forward to reading anything else Melissa Grace writes.

tw- do check tw before starting cause this book touches quite some topics which are sensitive

Alcoholic druggie ex rockstar is depressed and contemplating life when he ends up in the same town as h. Now he's quit all vices including his big man-whoring ways. We've got h who he's immediately infactuated with and 'isn't the type of girl' he usually goes for.

Not the type of girl I normally would have gone for or taken home for the night

I like the H, he's in therapy, making amends and slowly falls first for h. Instead of falling dick first into her, they establish a relationship before they do the deed.

h is supportive of his healing journey, she's with him throughout which is why it confused me when she completely blew off the handle when he had a struggle episode after a trigger. Agreed, its human emotion on h to be overwhelmed but over the top rude h was in completely in contrast to the sweet understanding h potrayed till then. This jump at after 70% honestly threw me off.

What bothered me more was that h was the biggest delulu on the planet. H himself says he's been with countless nameless faceless women, dude even fucked ow at the bathroom during family dinner in the past. And h despite knowing he's an hoe just as potrayed in the media, she defends him to her mother saying he's not a womanizer????? gives a whole speech how he's misunderstood and that's 'not who he is' like girl seriously ?

There were also a lot of women - in the words of H

b/w h and her mother -

She got quiet, and I turned around to find her studying her phone.
I dropped my head back onto my shoulders. “Don’t tell me you’re googling him.”
She didn’t bother lifting her eyes from the screen. “Okay. I won’t tell you.”
I snatched the phone out of her hands, but her face was already filled with concern.
“Kenz…” Her brows drew together as she frowned. “He’s very handsome, but those first headlines that popped up…Is all of that true? Because if it is—”
“It’s not,” I said, cutting her off. “Or at least, it isn’t anymore. He’s…kind and understanding and—”
“Not a womanizer?” she asked softly.
I shook my head emphatically. “He isn’t. I swear. I know what you’re thinking.”

DUDE SAID IT HIMSELF HE'S AN WHORE. STOP BEING AN IGNORANT DELULU

Other than this, this was a quick and a fairly good read. For one i personally didn't mind his past because he redeems himself. There's no OMD but the girl from the bathroom does make an tv appearance talking about his hoe ways again which is what causes the spiral earlier. It's quickly resolved though and H has eyes for no one but h. Loved H even more that he falls first and hard for her and is an absolute sad sweetheart throughout.

Coming Home is a story about McKenzie James and Luca Sterling who have been struggling with emotional distress for a while. Both the MCs want to stay by themselves after their experiences of life.

McKenzie works as a chef in Katie's kitchen and keeps herself busy behind the closed doors of the kitchen to avoid her mind wandering off to the one person she never thought she would lose. It has been very difficult for her since she lost him, but life has to move on and her friends and mother support her fully.

Luca Sterling has kept himself locked in Kentucky far away from his friends who are his family, from his hometown Nashville. He was a star performer of the Midnight at Dallas boyband and did not think he could stay away from his boys but after they all quit the band it all changed. But something changed and he decided to come back to town.

What happens when he runs into McKenzie? She knows him as Katie and Dallas' friend who has never shown up even after they have tried to contact him several times. She does not know anything about him yet she thinks he is an asshole for treating them like this. Little did she know that there were many secrets buried deep inside his handsome arrogant man and she would end up spending the night with him spilling some of her secrets in the process as well. The two meet and their worlds collide, they find out about the deep scars and nightmares that have been haunting them for years now. Will they be able to fix each other or will they fall apart taking each other down? Luca was just visiting, but will he be able to return or will he stay back in Nashville?

Melissa Grace's story of the two has been an emotional roller-coaster. It shows how a person lives inside his mind when he coping with mental health issues such as anxiety and depression. How much Luca and McKenzie wanted to break free from their minds but were trapped within their cobweb of thoughts. It has been a bit difficult for me to connect because I wanted to see more about their lives that involved their happy moments too along with the sad ones. The ones where their friends helped them cope with the sadness and they could be happy too. After a point, it got very emotional which made me disconnect from the characters. Overall it was a nice read but I wished for more happiness, friendship, chemistry between the characters, and lives from the end of the book.

I would like to thank her for giving me this opportunity and I wish her the best in her future books and look forward to more ARC books ahead as well.

First, I would like to thank Melissa for giving me the ARC of “Coming Home”. It was one of my most anticipated read of this year & I’m so grateful that I got to read it before its release.

Coming Home by Melissa Grace is a touching story that I read in one sitting. I couldn’t put down the book even once! It’s the story that deals with topics like mental health, friends and family in the most intense way. These sensitive issues are addressed in the best way possible & are very well written. Melissa’s writing is delicate yet impactful which left me in tears several times. Issues like depression, suicide and loneliness are explored in depth. These topics are addressed in the most painfully beautiful way. I appreciate the way they aren’t left after being touched up once but are followed up when the main characters make progression. I don’t think words are enough to describe the range of emotions that I felt while reading this book. It’s been two days since I finished reading it, but I still can’t stop thinking about it. The beautiful quotes & some of the most intense scenes keeps replaying in my head.

The plot whirls around Luca Sterling who is on a self-destructive path since the band “Midnight in Dallas” parted ways. One eye opening moment forces him to move back to Nashville where he meets McKenzie James, a girl who avoids getting close to anyone in fear of getting attached. Their first encounter ignites a connection & thereafter starts their journey of healing. Melissa has beautifully written Luca & McKenzie’s story. It’s a story of them overcoming the painful demons of their past & embracing the journey of healing together. I instantly fell in love with them. Every single scene of them holds such a special place in my heart!

It was so good to read about the previous characters of the series & I liked all the new characters that were introduced. Each character played a pivotal role in the book & Melissa handled it perfectly. Luca & Mama Laurel’s scene will make your heart melt!

“Coming Home” gave the perfect ending to “Midnight in Dallas” series. I already knew before its release that it was going to be my favourite & I was proven right! It’s so hard to say goodbye to my family but I couldn't have asked for anything better<33

✨ARC Review✨
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I want to start off by saying that if you are someone who struggles with depression or other mental health issues. Or if you are someone who may have an issue reading these sensitive topics, then I recommend reading the authors notes to decide if it is right for you.

Coming Home is book #5 of the Midnight in Dallas series by Melissa Grace. I’ll be honest, I did not read the four books before this. The nice thing about this one was that I could read it as a stand alone without really feeling like I was missing a lot. Now, do I have every intention of reading the other books? Abso-freaking-lutely! Coming Home was so darn good, I can hardly imagine what the others will be like!
Although parts of this book were really heavy, it was exceptionally written! There were several quotes that I found myself writing down because they really struck home with me. Melissa Grace did an incredible job with this book.

Luca Sterling is a former band member of Midnight in Dallas. Although the group no longer performs together, they are still very close & consider each other family. What they don’t realize after the breakup is Luca’s struggle with depression. He’s hidden himself away with the pretense of traveling. He suddenly has a wake up call and decides to get help so he can start freeing himself from the shadows that hover around him.

McKenzie James also struggles with her fair share of issues after the loss of a loved one. At first she’s rough around the edges and prickly like a porcupine. Her friend/boss Katie (who happens to be with Dallas) talks her into coming to their game night which Luca also happens to be attending.

The relationship Luca & McKenzie developed is truly special. They bring out the best in each other. And help each other travel a path towards finding happiness & acceptance in themselves.
The release date for this book is 9/26/24. Please get your copy & support the author Melissa Grace! 🫶🏻

A quick thank you to @heymelissagrace for trusting me with a copy of your book. I loved it so much and plan to read many more of my book.

"You wanna know what it feels like to love someone?...it’s like coming home. It’s that sigh of relief when you walk through the door and know you’re somewhere you don’t have to pretend to be anything other than what you are. It’s where you can be the worst version of yourself and know those four walls will protect you and keep you all the same."

◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇

The highly anticipated and long-awaited conclusion to the Midnight In Dallas series is here. I felt so bittersweet reading it because I have fallen in love with this series and these characters. And I was so excited to finally get Luca's story, but also sad that it's the end.

Honestly, all I need to say is no notes. Chef's kiss. 10/10. Infinity stars 🥹

Luca has been a very mysterious character for so long. And his story will absolutely break your heart. And Mckenzie is a real tough kid going through it on the inside, but you'd never know on the outside. They are kindred spirits and honestly, perfect together.

The depiction of depression, anxiety, trauma, and healing feels so raw. But their story is written with such hope, support, and light. It was all woven together beautifully. There was time to sit in the dark, pain and loneliness; to really feel what the characters were experiencing. The moments of happiness and hope were brought in organically, so it felt like a true, realistic journey of the rollercoaster that is navigating mental health.

This may not be her happiest book, but I truly believe it's the most emotional and impactful. I think that anyone can take something away from this book by reading it. Remember to reach out. Be there for the people in your life. Don't shut people out. Ask for help when you need it. Go to therapy. Live in the moment. Thank you, Melissa, for writing this vulnerable and beautiful story for us. It's the perfect send-off to these characters!

Thank you, Melissa Grace, for the opportunity to read an advanced copy!

I have been (not so) patiently for this book since Feels Like Home came out in 2023. That is one thing about Melissa’s writing, she is always leaving me wanting another story about another character. The world she has built around Midnight in Dallas is absolutely delightful!

McKenzie & Luca are an unlikely pair because they are both grumps but it works so well for them! Their past life experiences and the similarities they share help them to truly understand what the other is going through!

Depression, addiction, and suicide are a theme throughout the book. In my opinion, the last 1/3 of the book was HEAVY on these topics. Melissa put so much thought, effort, and tenderness into this story. The lyrics and letter writing were beautifully crafted!

I would have liked to see Luca and Kenzie’s characters develop together a little bit more. It was difficult for me, after the conflict, to process the resolution. It felt a little abrupt?!

I loved the epilogue! Finally getting a chapter from Grace’s POV! It’s always so fun to see where all the characters are at!

Thanks for letting me come on this journey with you Melissa Grace! I can’t wait to see what is next for you!!!

“When his skin touched mine, a shiver coursed from my palm, up my arm, and through the back of my neck. He was so beautiful it was almost painful. Like that time I found a black onyx ring I loved at this vintage jewelry store and then saw the price. It was stunning, one of a kind. But it would never belong to me.”

“Just like Dallas' heart had recognized Katie's from the very beginning, there was something about McKenzie's that called to mine. Without ever realizing it, I'd chosen her. I didn't know what that meant for the future. All I knew was, I wanted to find out. I had to.”

I was given this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This is the last installment in the Midnight in Dallas storyline. While excited for the final story, I just didn’t want the series to end! Melissa is such a fun/relatable author and her characters are very relatable.

The MiD series is different from your typical rom coms because the main characters in each book deal with a "real life" emotion/event that carries the majority of the story. This book feels a bit heavier than the first four, as the main characters have personal narratives that intersect with suicidal struggles and mental health assistance. But I truly believe it is one of those books where everyone will find a piece of themselves woven into one of the characters/stories. Even if not the main characters, maybe in one of the supporting characters.

Luca Sterling - the last lone wolf from Midnight in Dallas - cuts himself off from his friends and family, and hides away because he feels like the world does not need him in it. McKenzie James refuses to get close to people in fear that she will only lose them in the end, as she has others. Their relationship builds off their broken pieces, as Luca and McKenzie learn that they have more in common than they realize. Their understanding of each other is beautifully written. And as they both learn to grow in their own worlds, you can feel the love and support from their friends (i.e. found family) surrounding them. It is going to be hard to say goodbye to the entire group!

I will always recommend these books, but please check the author’s note on this one for any personal triggers. In my opinion, it is worth the read.

First and foremost, I need to start by thanking Melissa for allowing me to be part of this journey from the very beginning. Home Is Where You Are is the very first ARC I ever got and I have been hooked on this amazing found family ever since. And this book is such a beautiful bow to bring this series to an end.

Second, I don't know that I can fully put my thoughts for this book into words - nor do I have enough room. LOL this book broke my heart into a million pieces due to how closely it hit home for me... so so many of the feelings and thoughts Luca has are my own. While I'm on the okay side 90% of the time - those demons don't just go away.

This book put those thoughts and feelings into words for the world to see and hopefully understand. And it is a perfect time too because September is National Suicide Prevention Month.

Just like Luca, McKenzie and Lacey... my semicolon represents that there was still more to tell in my story.

Take care of yourself, friends 🧡

COMING HOME will be available on 9/26!

Why? Why does this series have to be over? I have been with these characters since the meet and greet where we found out about Liv’s hostile kitty. #IYKYK 😉🐈‍⬛

Now back to Luca and Makenzie. This one pulled all the heartstrings. Both of them wanted to be loved. Neither knew how to get it or even if they deserved it. That sucks. That feeling that if you were better, if you were worthy, if you could offer more, then others would see value in you. When in truth, you need to see the value in yourself to know your worth. The growth in both was fabulous. They helped each other be more, realizing they as individuals are deserving of the happiness they see others have. That they were not put here to be in the background in someone else’s story.

A few parts in the story I had to put the book down. It hurt too much. Luca no longer wanted to be the screw up. Makenzie longed to be rid of the feeling she could have saved her brother. What they need to understand was they both were already those things plus so much more. Ugh. You are deserving. You are worthy.

I digress and now through tears I need to wrap this up. I kind of hate you Melissa for making me love these characters. For making it painful to say goodbye to them. The next time I make it to Tennessee I’ll will hunt you down and bear hug you. Dude. That sounds so aggressive. I’m not gonna do that. I don’t want to go to jail. 🤦🏽‍♀️

How can I ever bid goodbye to such an enjoyable series with such a fantastic cast of characters?

I absolutely adore Melissa's books and the Midnight in Dallas series! The friend group is incredible and the found family vibes strong as they all look out for each other. As we've moved through the band and friend group as they find their happily ever afters, it's been an enjoyable ride and we find perhaps the most vulnerable story here at the end.

Luca's battle with depression is a vulnerable story that so many can relate to, me included. It's raw and real in how he hides away from the world feeling like he doesn't deserve anything and McKenzie's journey with grief and the intersection of their stories was beautiful and bittersweet. Asking for help is always difficult, especially so when it's for your mental health, and this story helps destigmatize asking for help and seeking therapy, even when you feel that you don't need it. Melissa handled Luca and McKenzie's story with gentleness and a vulnerability that will touch your heart and leave you rooting for the characters.

If you haven't read the Midnight in Dallas series yet, what are you waiting for? It's such a fantastic series that will leave you feeling cozy and satisfied (and maybe wanting your own sweetheart of a former band member for a significant other too).

Thank you to Melissa and her team for the eARC in exchange for an honest review!

Wow….
I need a minute before I can write a proper review 😭

Okey, next day, and now I think I’m ready.
First of all, it was so hard saying bye to this series at the end, it just felt like this warm family blanket and now it’s over. Second, I knew Luca story was gonna be a hard pill to swallow, but jeez, it twisted my soul and gave me life at the same time. I would read the trigger warnings because it does go deep into depression and mental health, as well as other things that might be triggering for some people.

I loved their chemistry and how they feed off each other energy, knowing exactly what the other needed without asking. Continuing to learn about the stories of the past books? Is 100% my favorite thing with series, because is just so sweet and nice to know they are doing good.

Luca is the perfect example of don’t judge a book by its cover, and don’t believe everything the internet says, that man was sweet to the core but had this whole image made out of himself based on his low points in life. McKenzie is the sarcastic black cat (who has two cats 🤭) who doesn’t like to let people in, very protective of her environment and allowing people in, and these two characters just mixed and formed a cute book.

5 beautiful glowing stars for this perfection. Flawlessly written and so vulnerable. It will turn you into a puddle of mush. Such a satisfying end to The Midnight in Dallas gang.

Bear with me as I try to express my love for this book….I knew from the dedication page that this was going to be something special, but I had no idea what Melissa Grace had in store for us.

Coming Home is the last book in the Midnight in Dallas series (yes, you should read them in order), and Melissa ended it with a bang. This is Melissa’s best work. Her writing in Coming Home is EXQUISITE, RAW, and oh so VULNERABLE. Every word on the page will have an impact on you. I was not ready to feel so deeply.

Luca’s character in the series has been a bit mysterious as he’s always been a bit closed off, and he’s gotten a bad rep as the party boy. He’s dealing with depression and anxiety, and finally reaches out for help once he realizes his friends still care about him. The emotion just oozes off the pages as Luca learns how to cope with everything. Your heart will break for Luca, but you also get to watch him soar as everything comes full circle. McKenzie is also struggling. They are two lost souls who find each other. They understand each other in a way no one else can. I loved them together and I loved them separately as they each trudged through their demons.

Everyone can relate to some part of Luca and McKenzie’s story. We all have our bad days, but no matter what you may feel at times, just remember 𝗬𝗢𝗨 𝗔𝗥𝗘 𝗡𝗢𝗧 𝗔𝗟𝗢𝗡𝗘.

I cried all sorts of emotional tears. Found Family at its FINEST. The power of Melissa’s words had me crying on my treadmill while working out. I had tears mixed in with my sweat, and it gave me freaking chills!!!!

“We swayed together, two wildflowers in a field of weeds, and in that moment, I was free.”

We really are finally coming home! I feel like I’ve been waiting for Luca’s book forever and it’s so worth the wait! Melissa did not disappoint!!

Luca was heartbroken when his band Midnight in Dallas, broke up. Everyone had their own path to figure out and he just felt lost. As much as he loves his friends, his only family really, he also still felt like an outsider. Part of that probably also comes from his hard and complicated childhood.

McKenze’s life is full with friends and a job that she loves but it just doesn’t feel complete. Years ago she lost someone very important to her and she’s never been the same. She might be living and laughing but inside she feels broken.

McKenzie and Luca are no strangers to each other, they do have common friends but they never really spent time together. Until a chance encounter had them spending the whole night together. Enjoying each other’s company and sharing their secrets. A bond is formed and they fell hard and fast. But the past has a way of surfacing when you least expect it and their personal demons make themselves known again. Can they survive it together or will it lead them to their separate ways?

This book grabbed my heart and never let go! It broke it and put it back together again.
The power of love and its healing powers and finding your home.
