Eric Hated Being Dead

Rate this book
There had been little time in Eric's busy schedule for his mother or his younger brother. A new job in a highly completive business left him tense and anxious, and may have contributed to his tragic accident on a rain slick highway. Dying was something Eric had never really thought about, and he certainly wasn't prepared to find himself in a situation as demanding and chaotic as the life he had just left. Michael, Eric's guardian angel, was harassing him, and there were rules he didn't understand. And if his new existence wasn't complicated enough, Eric found himself unexpectedly teamed up with Erin, an attractive young woman, and the type of person he had always dreamed about. Eric Hated Being Dead will warm your heart and amuse you.

I cannot remember a time when I was not reading. Books have always been an important part of my life, and I continue to be fascinated by the many wonderful things I discover each time I sit down in my favorite chair and open a book. When I was growing up, we moved frequently, living in cities, as well as in small towns, and on a working farm in a rural area. The sharp contrast of each of these places caused me to love and appreciate the busy and varied experience cities had to offer, but also the quiet life of being close to nature in the countryside. I was impressed early on by the vast differences between the geographic areas of the country, and the part ethnic background, social differences, and education played in the lives of people. Books about history, science, romance, mystery and suspense, have always presented an irresistible attraction to me. Writing is my way of introducing others to the things I have observed and experienced. I mostly read and write suspense novels, but cannot resist the temptation of Historical Fiction, or anything that deals with nature. I have just finished a suspense novel called ‘Innocent’ which will be out before the end of September, 2009. I am currently working on ‘The Relic,’ the second book in a series about the religious and political problems in the Middle East. I am doing research on a novel about the Colonial era.

Eric Hated Being Dead is one of those Heaven Can Wait type of story where the narrator dies and is sent back to earth. Most versions follow the route of the romantic comedy, but this one veers toward wacky humor and is therefore different. Instead of men and women in flowing white garb greeting the newly dead in some dream-like pearly gate, we are taken to a shabby afterlife office with three harried clerks processing the new arrivals. Because of a Gulf Coast hurricane that has left so many dead, Eric is temporarily being sent back Earth. What Eric discovers about his new body and how he deals with his temporary but challenging situation is what makes this book hilarious. Not every attempt at humor succeeded but most of it did, in a Jim Carey-ish kind of way. The peice is only thirty -three pages long, but carries enough entertaining punch for me to recommend it.

As a firm lover of films like Beetlejuice and Just Like Heaven, I was thrilled to find a written story to enjoy that was along similar lines. Eric Hated Being Dead is a quick and entertaining read, that is light-hearted and scattered with the humour you might expect for a story following someone post-death! A good fun read and short enough to enjoy in one sitting.

Loved it

I love paranormal and this book filled my expectations. All the way through it I hoped Eric got another chance at life. I can imagine the fun the author had in writing this story, especially with the water.

Kindle single. It was an interesting enough concept piece.
