This was an engaging, quick-paced, fun, witty mystery!
Thank you to the author, Steve, for sending me an arc of this book in exchange for an honest review.
In “Full Bodied” we follow the pov our fmc Francine. She runs a wine blog called “Pinot and playhouses” where she addresses a pair of wine bandits that have been the talk of the town, and she also reports on inexpensive wines and makes recommendations for those on a budget who want to enjoy the finer tastes in life. One fateful day while Francine is covering an auction for a 1943 bottle of wine, she witnesses it being stolen and is thrown into the intrigue of the mystery of Queen Nefertiti and her artifacts. Now she is taken out of her comfortable day-to-day life, and thrown into mysteries, murders, a may or may-not be romance, and a huge secret. Can Francine uncover Nefertiti’s treasures? Is Dick wanting to aid her in her discoveries, or is there a motive behind his interest?
As a lover of wine myself, I was over the moon with all the references and mentions of wine throughout the book. I may or may not have had a glass while reading this cozy novel ❤️ I really admired Francine’s perseverance, while she still stuck to her moral compass on what she was and was not willing to cover or exploit in her blog. Even though she had opportunities to use circumstances to her advantage, she chose to do the right thing.
I WAS hoping for a romance between her and Dick, and while I enjoyed their relationship, I realized that wasn’t the point of the story. Francine was able to solve this on her own, and he was tagging along for the ride. It was due to her brains, and intelligence that she was able to get as far as she did.
As for Harold, my jaw was on the floor. I was hoping his intentions were true and honest, but was once again proved wrong.
The illustrations in each chapter added a cute, exciting factor to the book, and I LOVE them.
The plot moved at a nice pace which I was so thankful for, as I was needing a feel-good palate cleanser. This book is on KU so I highly recommend this if cozy mysteries are up your alley!
Thank you to the author for gifting me a copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.
Francine Witt is a blogger, influencer, journalist and wine expert, she’s not really putting her journalism degree to much use right now. However she finds herself caught up in a mystery when she starts writing on her blog about a series of wine thefts by two men, then she witnesses the thieves in action when she witnesses them stealing a very rare bottle of wine after an auction. The bottle of wine is rumoured to be the key to finding Queen Nefertiti’s treasure and when Egyptologists start winding up dead the mystery deepens.
I loved this book and I read it while I was recently on a long distance train journey so I read it in one sitting, luckily I wasn’t sitting in the quiet carriage as I couldn’t help but laugh out loud in places. I loved Francine and her double act with Dick was both hilarious and endearing, I’m hoping the author writes a follow up as I would like to read more about the relationship between these two. This book was funny, engaging and really well written, I would not hesitate to recommend it. All the characters and back stories were really fleshed out and the book kept me guessing right up until the end.
I reallllllly enjoyed this book - I stayed up until midnight and finished it in a day!!! Every page something happened which kept the pages turning, it was an easy read and just very very unexpectedly good! Highly recommend!
“It’s impossible not to acknowledge the fragility of life when you’re faced with the prospect of death.”
Full Bodied follows Francine Witt: successful blogger, influencer and wine expert. When Francine covers an auction for an ancient wine rumoured to hold the key to a long lost treasure, she witnesses the theft of the bottle. Francine then finds herself in the middle of a murder mystery as Egyptologists are murdered one by one, and she can’t help asking herself if the rumours are true, and if they’re linked to the killing spree.
Full Bodied is told from Francine’s perspective in the present timeline, with the addition of letters and articles providing further depth and background. I must say I loved the chapter titles and the images throughout the book, I felt they really added to the theme.
I wasn’t sure what to expect with this one as although I am a fan of wine, history usually isn’t my thing. However I was pleasantly surprised to find myself becoming quite invested in the cryptic hieroglyphics, wondering how everything came together and if there really was a lost treasure. I admire and appreciate the research and time Steve Exeter has put into this book - it absolutely shows.
I really enjoyed Francine’s character, she is funny, witty and humorous and well written. The ending provided the necessary amount of closure whilst delivering a shock in regard to the killer! Thank you Steve for messaging me about Full Bodied. I read this on KU and my opinions are all my own.
What a fun, witty book! Steve very kindle sent me this book and I really did enjoy it! I loved how Fran was a strong & independent woman who gave Bridget Jones vibes and I also appreciate all the feminist messages throughout 🙏🏻 I do wish Fran & Dick had a happily ever after but not everything is meant to be. Such a fun read and I'm glad I delved into something a little different 🫶🏻
I really enjoyed following Francine’s character throughout this book. I loved how gripping this one was and the use of letters to break up the pages. I can’t wait to see what Francine gets up to in her next adventure.
I was very kindly gifted this book by Steve, the author, for my honest review.
This book had me hooked from the beginning. I really liked Francine as a character, she was relatable and funny. The way she is written comes across really well, she is a strong and independent woman with a good career. I also loved the illustrations throughout the book, they were really well done!
As a history graduate who has had a huge interest in Egyptology since I was a child, I absolutely adored the premise of this story. There was a lot of factual information about Egypt and Nefertiti which really added to the novel, I found it really interesting. I liked the use of mixed media to incorporate this information as well!
I received this book yesterday afternoon and have already finished it. It was a really quick and easy read, and it kept me guessing! I had no idea who the murderer was going to be and it completely shocked me. Usually I can guess a twist but this wasn’t the case!
The only reason I have given 4.5 rather than 5 is I wanted more of the story! I can’t wait to see where Francine ends up next.
Right straight away I'm going to say I loved this!! I read it in about 3 hours 😂 Such an easy read with lots going on to keep you wanting to read the next chapter. I loved fran and dicks relationship, I was actually laughing through the book. The build up to the ending was everything! I guessed part of the ending but the bit that involved Harold/Harry (what a dick btw😂) I didn't see coming. Id definitely recommend you to pick this book up and give it a read.
Fran is a blogger, writing about everything wine related. She gets the chance to cover the auction event being held for the long lost bottle of Margaux - a rumoured key to Queen Nefertiti's hidden treasure. The thrill and mystery starts from here when the bottle gets stolen by the wine thieves, Egyptologists are murdered one by one and Fran is in the middle of it all trying to find out why this bottle is so precious and what is it leading her to?
Thankyou Steve for sending me this book and giving me the chance to read and review! 🥰
I really enjoyed how FULL BODIED balanced mystery and charm. Francine’s blogging background made her feel modern and relatable, and her curiosity pulled me right into the story. The wine and treasure elements gave the book a sophisticated edge, and I appreciated the nods to history. The murders kept me guessing, and the twists were unexpected but believable. The writing was sharp, and Francine’s personality shone through in every chapter. This is the kind of mystery that’s fun and satisfying, perfect for fans of strong female leads.

As soon as I started the story, I knew that I would enjoy it. I loved the author's writing style and the pacing was just right, plus the short chapters made for easy reading. I loved Francine's character and I found myself laughing and smiling throughout the story. I also loved the other characters. Overall, this was an enjoyable and entertaining read that I highly recommend to other readers. I look forward to reading more by the author. 💝 Thank you to the author, Steve Exeter for my copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
This is the first book in the Francine Witt Mysteries and it was an absolutely perfect palette cleanser for me. I loved Francine’s character and I found her to be quite clever and witty. Not only is she a wine expert, but she’s a blogger and influencer who gets tangled up in solving a crime involving two men who are wine thefts. She happens to catch them in the act of stealing a bottle of wine that was said to be linked to Queen Nefertiti’s treasure.
I love how Egyptology was a major part in this story. It was clever and you can tell a lot of background research was done while writing this. The plot then takes a turn when some of the egyptologists start mysteriously turning up dead. Fran find herself in a bit of a pickle and is determined to figure out what is happening.
Overall, this was a fast paced and really fun mystery book. I can’t wait to see more of Francine in the second book!
Full Bodied: A Francine Witt Mystery by Steve Exeter is a fun and absorbing tale of a wine enthusiast/journalist reporting on local wine thefts. However, this leads to a huge incident where Francine finds herself caught in the danger, mystery, and intrigue of her own story she’s investigating. As a journalist, Fran is torn between writing the ultimate article to boost her career and honoring people’s desires. I really like how the author orchestrated Fran’s internal struggle and emotions when it came to personal issues versus professional. How far will Fran go for the story? She is flawed and human which makes her relatable, but also fair in her process and cognizant of how her choices affect others’ wellbeing. The mystery is entertaining, the ancient Egyptian history always interesting, and the narration enjoyable for a good read.
Full Bodied is a bubbly cozy mystery with a smart streak. I loved watching Francine Witt trade tasting notes for clue hunting as a stolen 1943 Margaux pulls her into Egyptology, secret diaries, and a trail of very suspicious academics. The tone is witty and warm, the clues are satisfying, and the mix of museum intrigue and wine world mishaps kept the pages flying. Francine’s voice is sharp and funny, and the feminist flair suits a story orbiting Nefertiti’s legacy. A few beats lean a bit cheesy, but the ride is pure fun. Pour a glass, settle in, and enjoy a lively mystery with character, charm, and just the right finish.
So since I was a kid I have always loved Egyptology and adventure. If Indiana Jones and Jessica Fletcher had had a baby, I wanted to be that girl. This book has so many great aspects of both my loves rolled up in a funny and easy to love feminine character. The plot was easy and well thought out.
Many aspects of history are brought to life and I appreciated that. This book is one for feminists, and just those that love a strong female lead, with many hat tips to others, woven throughout. I would definitely let my daughter read this one day. Wonderful book!
A fun cosy mystery that takes you on a bit of a journey. Francine is a fun character and seems to have gotten herself into a bit of a mess. She seems unfortunate in terms of her luck but also well placed.
The wine thieves add extra humour to this and give Francine something to occupy herself with. I thought it was interesting that she uncovered who they were but didn't reveal their identity.
The mysterious deaths keep occurring and it's not obvious who the murderer is or why they are doing it; although the treasure hunt does give good motive. I thought the treasure hunt was good fun and adds an interesting element to the story as Francine works through clues and family secrets. I liked how she didn't know what she was stumbling onto until near the end. It added an interesting twist to things as the culprit is revealed.
FULL BODIED: A Francine Witt Mystery by Steve Exeter is a captivating and suspense-filled read. The story follows Francine Witt, an accomplished journalist with a top-tier journalism degree. For Francine, the news is an ever-present backdrop, no matter what she’s doing. She has been writing about two young wine thieves, and her blog’s popularity has soared thanks to their exploits.
Recently, Francine attended an auction for a one-of-a-kind bottle of vintage Margaux. This rare bottle, adorned with mysterious etchings, is rumored to hold the key to a long-lost treasure. But when the prized wine is stolen from the winning bidder, the mystery deepens. Who took it—and why?
Meanwhile, Professor Abu Hinksley, an Egyptologist who had just opened an exhibition honoring the reign of Queen Nefertiti, dies from poisoning. Detective Wicks takes charge of the investigation. Soon, Francine finds herself entangled in a dangerous world where fine wine and murder intertwine.
The author’s writing style is engaging, and the book’s cover is visually striking. The language is simple and easy to follow, making it accessible for all readers. I particularly enjoyed the clever portrayal of the wine thieves. Steve Exeter has crafted a plot so compelling that once you start reading, you simply can’t put it down.
I am going to be totally honest with you, I usually judge the book by its cover. Which I should not, but... What can I do, I am a simple woman. So when I first saw this book I did not expect much of it, but thank god and thanks to the author of this book that I gave it a chance, because it was brilliant.
The first thing that I noticed in this book was how funny it was, not like "pee your pants" funny, but the humour in this book was a lot similar to mine and I really enjoyed it straight from the first chapter. The second thing that I noticed was how well the main female character was written considering that the author is a man. I know that many readers might be used to this, but I was truly impressed by this.
I also enjoyed the mystery part, it was like coming back to my teenage years and reading The Three Investigators again, but in an adult version. I flew through this book, I liked it a lot and it is definitely one of those books that deserve to have many readers, because of how amazing it is. I am going to try to sneak it to my partner reading list and I already got another book from Steve, because I am kinda missing Francine already and also his writing style.
I'd like to start by thanking @steveexeter in gifting me with this beautiful book of his! This book is full of Egyptian history, feminism and mystery. Something I've not read before but rather enjoyed. It took me a little minute to get sucked into the book and fully understand what was happening. I did find at the beginning it was a little repetitive with the stolen wine and deaths of the Egyptologists. Once the history details started to click into place as well as the relevence of the familes it became more addictive. I found the climax of the book to be later on which made the ending of the book so much more interesting and left me questioning so much about how the ending was going to play out! There was a relationship within this book which was an added bonus with tension, trust and a plot in the story. However this gets dropped at the end which was a shame because the relationship could have been continued without taking away from the ending. Overall im glad I've read this beautiful book, I've learned a lot and will be continuing to support @steveexeter 💕
Don’t judge a book by its cover and to be honest the cover gives very little away. Other than wine is involved and I’m pretty sure most of us can relate to that!
The story follows Francine Witt. A wine blogger, someone who explains the difference between the good and the bad stuff. She’s also aware that locally a few wine thefts have occurred and seeing her chance to make it as a journalist she tries to find out who is responsible. At the same time, a group of egyptologists have opened an exhibition at the British Museum and one of them buys a very expensive bottle of wine that legend has it is the key to a treasure map. A treasure hunt and a murder mystery combine on this adventure for Francine to see if she can solve what is going on.
When you start reading this you think how on earth can wine and Egyptology mix in a story but it is a really good, fun, witty story. There’s wine, murder, a treasure hunt and a tiny bit of romance but it brings together a really enjoyable plot line and great loveable characters.
I really enjoyed it. It was something new and different and I think sometimes we appreciate that, especially when we read a lot.
Not going to lie, when I first started reading this I thought it was really random trying to link a wine blogger and Egyptologists in a story…but reading on it all makes sense! This is a whitty, engaging and fast paced cosy mystery centring around Francine- wine blogger, a duo of wine theives- Terry and Dick, some high brow Egyptologists and one murderer!
It’s a brilliant story which all links together in the end! The way the story flows to the “who dunnit” at the end was great and I didn’t expect the culprit to be who it was!! The author had clearly done their research on ancient Egypt which shows in some of the prose- although obviously romanticised to fit in with the story!
The writing style makes for quick and easy reading and the quirky chapter art makes for an enjoyable reading experience! I can’t wait for Fran’s next adventure!!
Steve kindly reached out to me and sent me a copy of his book in return for my review, and I’m so very grateful for this opportunity! I was very pleasantly surprised by this book, I really liked Francine as a character, funny and a well written female for a male author! The story is a classic whodunnit with added history, Egypt and its history has always fascinated me, so reading this with its wealth of Egyptology knowledge was excellent and the research that has gone into this is admirable. The mixed format of blog posts, diary entries and historic articles were a great addition and the hieroglyphs throughout added to the atmosphere. The wine aspect of the book was also interesting although I’m not a wine lover, I enjoyed seeing how these two parts of the story intertwined. The book finished off perfectly but I’d like to see more of Francine in the future!
This book is brilliant! It’s got a strong female main character who loves wine, a murder and a historical treasure hunt - what more could you want?
It’s written really well and Fran is such a brilliant character! Not once was it predictable, but it was a fun read throughout. I pretty much read this in one sitting and would recommend to anyone who loves a fun read with a bit of mystery! I’m looking forward to more books featuring Francine!
After a friend asked me to buddy read this book with her I decided to give it a try. I wasn't sure if I'd enjoy it at first but the more I read the more I became hooked. The mysteries within made it intriguing and hungry for more. Amazing writing by the author will 100% read more by Steve
A fast paced, feminist driven, quick read...perfect for summer! I admit, I didnt know a lot about Egypt or even auctions, but still I picked it up on my way to the beach... and it didn't disappoint. If you are looking for a book that will keep you guessing and giggle at the same time, this might just do the trick!
A fun, cozy, wine and Egyptology themed mystery with a surprisingly deep message of feminism and representation.
Francine Witt is a wine blogger dreaming of a career in "real" journalism while posting budget wine recommendations and blogging about the shenanigans of two wine thieves who time and time again get away with stealing expensive bottles of wine from restaurants and bars.
When her agent secures an invitation to an auction for a very rare bottle of wine, Francine has no idea that her once so straightlaced life is about to go off the rails. Before long, Francine is embroiled in a mystery involving murder, theft, long-buried secrets and potential treasure.
Easy to read and easy to like, this is a cozy mystery with a very current feel and a heroine who should appeal to readers who like independent yet vulnerable female main characters looking to carve out a place in the world for themselves.
It isn't easy for a cozy mystery to stand out among its peers in today's market, but Full Bodied manages to do just that with its strong adherence to its themes of wine, Egyptology and feminism. In some cozy mysteries the theme is just a thin coat of paint that quickly peels off, but in this novel, the themes are crucial to both the story and the mystery. Wine and Egyptology are the backbones of the story and the mystery, while the messages of feminism and representation are deep and poignant once you take a peek beneath the seemingly simple cozy mystery surface.
This isn't a novel that briefly mentions wine, Egyptology and feminism, this is a book that is absolutely steeped in these themes, reflected not only in the story, but also in the characters, illustrations and overall messages left to the reader.
Thank you so much to Steve Exeter for the review copy of this book.
Full Bodied: A Francine Witt Mystery is a fun, lighthearted whodunit that mixes murder, stolen wine, and a dash of Egyptology into an engaging page-turner. Francine is a relatable lead, and while some of her choices surprised me, her wit and charm carried the story. I especially enjoyed the archaeology and treasure-hunt thread, which gave the mystery a fresh and original twist. At times the pacing felt uneven and a few passages over-explained things, but those were minor compared to the overall enjoyment. It’s a clever, cozy-adjacent read with humour, history, and plenty of surprises.
I really enjoyed Full Bodied. Francine Witt is the kind of main character you instantly root for—clever, flawed, and quick with a comeback. The story pulled me in from the first chapter, mixing mystery with just the right touch of humor and small-town charm. Steve Exeter did a great job balancing suspense with personality; it never felt over the top or predictable.
If you like mysteries that don’t take themselves too seriously but still deliver solid surprises and a few laugh-out-loud moments, this one’s for you. I finished it in two sittings and already hope there’s a sequel coming.
The main character, Francine Witt, is a journalist with a budget-wine blog who finds herself entangled with two men who use elaborate scenarios to steal high-priced wines, and then finds herself investigating multiple deaths connected to the secrets of Nefertiti’s treasures. I was hooked from page one and absolutely loved the layout, as it was clever and different (including hieroglyphics from both the past and present). In fact, the way the author did the visual elements in the book made me think about how a Dan Brown novel might look if he wrote cosy mysteries. ‘Full Bodied’ is a solid 5-star read for anyone who loves originality, cosy mysteries, wants to LOL, likes to learn about other cultures (i.e. Egypt), and loves a good female heroin that you won’t forget. Highly recommend.
