Both new characters and old acquaintances appear in this volume. The only difference is that this time Qin Jiu is an examinee just like everyone else. This is his punishment for helping You Huo destroy the previous examination centre. But still, what did he do with You Huo shortly after arriving at the cave? Dismantled the system's ship. They didn't have enough firewood, it was winter, and the ship was made of wood. Sounds reasonable. His little wave towards the examiners' ship, who arrive to give him and You Huo punishment for it is just so badass.

We get more information about the confinement rooms and how they work. They're meant to take the form of one's most feared memory. However, it doesn't seem to bother either of them since Qin Jiu just decided to use his three hours of punishment to read, while You Huo to sleep, thus pissing off every examiner watching them. More things resurface about their past and we also find out who is that mysterious Examiner A mentioned previously. The bantering between the main leads continues as usual.
