Upfront my thanks to the author for the free review copy of the short, short story anthology.
3.5 ⭐ for the book.
The stories here for the most part hit the sweet spot showing a lot of potential. There is a feel of Tales from the Crypt without the comedy. The only challenge that was for me was a seeming unfulfillment, in the stories. The stories teased me but left me short of being fulfilled. Nowadays I read horror very less but have a soft corner for the genre. The best part of this volume is that the stories are clean and free if crass and crude language.
Some of the stories are great and overall it was a good experience.
An enjoyable collection of short horror stories that I flew through. There are some interesting ideas here and a load of variety, with the stories ranging from Lovecraftian to supernatural revenge to creepy demons. The prose can be a little overly embellished at times, but the stories have energy and are clearly written by someone who loves the genre.
Great short story collection. I am currently doing an indie author only year of reading and I cannot say how happy I am. Discovering amazing authors along the way. This short story collection is no exception. I loved it from the first story to the last. This collection reminded me very much of Lovecraft with the Elder Ones and Old Ones, and Demons whispers from the shadows. I look forward to reading more from Kerry Richardson in the future.
Red Moon: Short Story Collection by Kerry Richardson is a hauntingly brilliant read that masterfully weaves together subtle hints and eerie tension. Kerry has a knack for laying down breadcrumbs, creating an unsettling atmosphere without ever needing to explicitly state what's coming. You can sense the dread building, and by the time it hits, you're completely immersed.
I'm not typically a fan of stories filled with blood, guts, and gore, but in these tales, Kerry uses them like a finely tuned seasoning—just enough to enhance the flavor without overwhelming the dish. The gore isn't gratuitous; it's woven seamlessly into the narrative, adding just the right edge.
Each plot carries you smoothly to the end, sometimes circling back to details you didn’t even realize were important. There are moments where I smugly thought, I knew it! and others that completely blindsided me. The suspense is perfectly crafted, with a slow build that keeps you hooked from one story to the next. Every chapter felt like my favorite—until I read the next one.
The vivid imagery throughout is so strong, I could almost hear the chilling soundtrack playing in the background. Kerry's clever use of language and attention to detail truly shine, and despite the short length of the stories, the characters are impressively well-rounded. The opening lines are gripping, pulling you in right away, and some of the tales are so intense that they linger long after you’ve finished.
While there are a few minor editing errors, they don’t detract from the overall experience. I wouldn’t dock a single star from this collection. Red Moon is imaginative, eerie, and perfect for a must-read-every-Halloween tradition. Highly recommended for those who love a good, spooky build-up without the overwhelming gore.
A good collection of short horror stories. A quick little read if you are looking for some good horror stories. Red Moon and Spectrum were the two I liked the most.
Loved reading this book! The short stories gave me the type of nostalgia I needed - they reminded me of those spooky scary stories we’d hear as a kid. Gave me those kind of vibes. Kind of gave me Poe vibes too, tbh. I adored this read. :)
I had already read two of these short stories and was delighted the remaining stories lived up to my expectations. The author has a definitive style but the stories are all different. It was hard for me to pick a favourite, but Red Moon is captivating. The collection of short stories shows how creative the author is, with the variety in each story, but still retains the fear element. No spoilers but highly recommended. Five star short story collection....
I found a collection of short stories written by someone who shares my first name, so OF COURSE I had to read it, especially as the eclipsing blood worm moon rises! Red Moon Short Story Collection holds six stories by Kerry Richardson. In a bit under 100 pages, the tales include nods to Lovecraft, demonic possession, spirits, and other paranormal frights. Beneath the Red Moon, it’s like the world’s gone mad, and the darkness has a voice of its own.”
A really great collection of different horror stories! Loved Anna-Mae as it was a great call back to the first one Couple on Monmouth Street and Night Shift was fab too! Creepy, keeps your toes curling, just don’t read in bed if you scare easily!!
creepy night time stories with a little extra gore
An anthology of short horror stories. I especially enjoyed Spectrum and Second Chances The stories all flowed nicely together. Great for creepy night time stories with a little extra gore for added measure.
“Red Moon” by Kerry Richardson is a quick but chilling gothic horror tale with strong demonic undertones. Dark, atmospheric, and unsettling, this short story delivers a haunting punch in just a few pages.
Kerry Richardson’s debut collection of short stories,”Red Moon” makes for intriguing reading. A quick read, it never loses pace. There’s a variety of themes, and a nicely done eeriness
