In the picturesque coastal town of Cape May, Theo Moore's journey from boyhood to adulthood is a tumultuous one, marked by relentless competition and comparison with his twin brother, Brandon, and suffocating pressure from his parents' unreachable expectations. As he strives to become a lifeguard, Theo grapples with the omnipresent ghost of isolation, unable to maintain meaningful connections amidst the ebb and flow of life's tides.

But when tragedy strikes and Theo's family is torn apart by a fateful accident, the town's blame falls squarely on his shoulders. Branded a pariah by the town, Theo finds solace in an unlikely source—the vast, mysterious ocean itself. With a whispered wish cast upon the waves, he sets out on a quest to find connection and purpose in a world where trust is as elusive as the shifting sands.

In this poignant prequel to the 'Chasing Shadows' series, follow Theo as he navigates the turbulent waters of grief, guilt, and redemption, learning to believe in the magic of Cape May's secrets and the power of second chances.

This prequel of the 'Chasing Shadows' series is a standalone story that can be enjoyed at any point, whether before "Dead In The Water" or any other sequel. Dive into Theo Moore's journey at any stage of your reading adventure!

Lots of Angst and Mixed Metaphors
I wanted to love this book. It is a sweet coming of age book that frequently reminded me of Alice Hoffman’s Practical Magic and Faithful. Unfortunately, it was just too slow for my taste, and the present tense, third person narration bogged down the story, perhaps because of the mixed tenses (often in the same sentence) which was confusing. But…the story was intriguing, and I wanted to know whether Ryan and Theo would find their way to real friendship.

This is a prelude to Theo's life before Finn. In this book we learn about Theo & why he was the way he was. Always an outside in his part of town, due to a tragic accident that everyone thought happened purposely. We also learn how he met Finn. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Ever wondered how Theo's life was before he met Finn?
This book gives us a clear inside of how cruel teenagers can be.
After he loses his brother in a car accident, of course, everyone blames Theo, everyone is dealing with the loss in their own way.

I didn't realize it was a prequel, but it was a delightful surprise, and now I'm eager to delve into the wider series to learn more about Theo and Finn."
