Strangers to friends to lovers to enemies to...this? No one tells you how to pick up the pieces of your broken heart when your one great love becomes your greatest hate.
Liam and Francesca were the stars and the sky until betrayal tore them apart. A secret that comes to light forces them into close proximity once again, but nothing is the way it used to be. They oscillate between love and hate, resentment and acceptance, trying to find balance that seems so far out of their reach. How much blood will need to be shed in order to cleanse the wrongs of the past?
This is a DARK, Black mafia romance. Morally gray is a kind way to describe the characters you will meet. This is an explosive then slow burn romance as two broken people try to reclaim what they lost.
This book is written in dialect because the MMC and some portions of his family have Scottish accents. Please be forewarned before you indulge.
Ma'am, I knew Liam and Frankie reconnecting would be a hard sell, but damn! 😤 These two worked my nerves so bad, that I was beginning to wonder if it was worth it to root for them anymore! 👀 To not believe your woman, and your own heart, when the information is being presented by someone you know is a hater, and who never wished you well? Come on now! 😡 Then to continue your arrogance, and ruthlessness against her without even trying to find out the truth? I wanted to knock Liam's big ass out myself! 🤬 He was a stubborn as they come, and I stayed pissed at him for at least 75% of the book.
Whew..... Frankie has got to be an angel, cause girl I don't know a love like you got. To have a man humiliate you, treat you like ish, banish you from your home, then come find you imprison you and torture you too? You can keep that love! 👀😤 No matter how angry she was at Liam for the the situation he put her in, the love was still very present, and she wanted her man back. sigh....
It took forever before these two had the damn conversation that needed to happen two years ago! Once that happened, blinders were removed, walls were torn down, and hearts opened to what could be in the here and now. I loved getting to know Liam's family, and trying to keep up with the Scottish lingo that was spoken throughout the book. The men from the consortium were front and center ready to stand by their brother. Jada's crazy ass is still causing havoc all over town, with Yacouba and Jazzy baby trying to keep her in line. Xerxes has come out of hiding and has found a love interest. Can't wait for that. Balthair's story was another interesting one, and I look forward to learning more about him. That ending with Priest has set the stage for another war brewing, but I know the men are already locked and loaded. Another great read about the consortium and will be patiently waiting for the next installment.
Whew my edges, glad I still have them cuz babbeee!!! The way I was stressed over Liam and Frankie’s situation, it had me wanting to lose my ish!!!
Liam with his overly cocky, prideful, arrogant and stubborn but also loving, possessive and obsessive self had me feeling all my emotions at the same time.
Frankie was my girl through and through the whole book. And love that even though she loved hard despite the situation she stood in big business and even showed a lil crazy side.
Ms.Dandridge you have done it again for me and I can’t wait for the next book to come out!!!
The story had so many facets that I am not sure how to describe this tale. The Scottish influence was interesting. The racial issues were prevalent and kept me on edge a good part of the story. The love story part nearly broke my heart. No spoilers..... You need to read this version for the cultural parts.
I waffled back and forth on my feelings for this book for awhile before I wrote my review, and they remain the same. (This review will contain slight spoilers.) While I love Dandridge’s writing and the world that she has created with the consortium, I did not love this story, and it’s because of Liam. He was so awful to Frankie, and I’m not just talking about him not believing her and the torture when he came back around. I’m talking about him basically admitting to leading her on in their previous relationship because he wouldn’t marry her because he thought she was weak. Him breaking their covalent, and it can be argued that he didn’t break it, but he did. He wasn’t engaging sexually, but he still gave another woman what he promised to only give Frankie. Him blackmailing her into marriage, and the list goes on. At no point did it seem like him and Frankie were on equal footing. He always had the upper hand and it felt icky. And the worst part is that he never truly made up for it. Seriously, what did Liam do to truly show her how sorry he was? Besides supposedly feeling bad for those two days. He did nothing, and it makes her forgiveness feel unearned and their ending feel hollow.
LIAM aka Tre is fione!!!!! BUT I wanted to slap some sense into him! It’s usually the FMC that we as fans have a problem with, but Liam was a stubborn arse! His love for Frankie was something sonnets are written about, but his pride clouded his green eyes like a milky film and he couldn’t see past the assumed wrong that was committed against him. Boy did he drag it! But there were these moments when he said the most beautiful things about her and their love that gave me hope. Frankie was the FMC I love to see! She got hardened by the ripping away of her forever fairytale and let her ovaries drop! She didn’t pull no punches, backdown or take anyone’s mess especially Liam’s. The film over his eyes seemed to remove the rose colored glasses she wore when she now looked at him and family. I enjoyed her every time she told someone off. The angst, the anxiety, the intrigue, the intensity between him and her was amazing. The drama happening outside of their 1x1 drama was soo good - betrayal, deception, racism, jealousy and familial dysfunction and more! Great read!
I used to dream a dream and it died. The night my one looked at me with such hate and disgust as he held a gun to my head and threatened to end me without listening to anything I said. And the person who stocked this discord standing there smiling who would have known it would come from within but I have a reason to keep going and I can't falter but what happens now? I told her to leave that night and don't ever let me find her but I have and with more than I expected and my heart still speaks to her but what she did was unforgivable but the question is death before dishonor and is it me or her? This was a ride!!!! The hurt & love and sexy and learning & Couba & Jazzy and Jada & Smoke. Loved this book hard.
This book had me so entranced I was trying to speak the Gaelic dialect. I didn’t have to imagine what people look like because of the family tree in the book! There’s even a glossary of words…. The list goes on and on. Dandridge took an idea, made it a phenomenal story then spices it up with Gaelic culture that really catapults you into the plot, the characters, the location, all the things. Don’t miss out by not reading and enjoying all this literary goodness.
What am I going to do without my Halfrican Hood Higlanders 😫
Who knew all it took for me to find Scottish men sexy was for them to be Black and speak a little country hood. This series sucked me in because I was happy to see the Queen City get a shout out in Book 1, and I've been down for the ride ever since. I'm the series just checks so many boxes:
✅️ well written. Beautiful story structure. Intelligent storylines. Thoughtful and engaging
✅️ different cultural and ethnic Black people. We are not pigeon holed here. We are Black & Scottish. Black & Arabic. Black & Black American. Black & African. I just love how many different cultures get the rep and how authentic and real it feels. The author did her research, and it always shows & the characters are better for it.
✅️flushed out problematic imperfect characters with bomb character growth
✅️focus on romance. Humor. And Blackity Blackness on display
✅️historical truth bombs
✅️layered conflicts
Dandridge Monroe is one of my fav authors because she knows how to drop knowledge with elegance. Her characters feel grown, and their problems and conflicts are always so layered.
All the tropes: 🏴 lovers to enemies to lovers 🏴slow burn 🏴touch her + 💀 or get broken bones or a detached head..er or detached hand...er or detached fingers 🏴violence begets violence 🏴The B in BDSM solves problems, so drop those drawers when he says sooooo 🏴secret baby, but he finds out quick & the way it went down wasn't cringe or aggravating, but it I'd heartbreaking 💔 🏴grovel... Frankie makes him earn it after he learns to put aside some thangs. 🏴second chance love...she's his reul and he's her forever.
I love me some Frankie. Seeing her growth and grow up 🤌🏾 I appreciated that she was called out for her shet as well. They held her feet to the fire for her part. She wasn't a perfect paradigm Liam needed to grovel to for an entire book. Nah, they both had to put in some work. I also appreciated that people around Liam told him he was a dumba$$. It helped so much because, yeah, he needed to tighten ish up.
The drama with his family, the Consortium, the racism (casual and not so casual), the plottin & scheming. What I loved handsdown was how we got a well-earned HEA. That ending 😫🥹😌....was perfection. We say what it means when Iron sharpens Iron and time apart is time to grow.
Liam was most definitely NOT my favourite character. I genuinely do feel like he should have grovelled a whole hell of a lot more. Truly. I didn’t mind Frankie. I liked that she was strong and stood her ground (not for long but long enough) Overall it was a good read, just not my favourite in the series. I really want to read Priest’s story👀
The author said it best that this couple was stubborn, full of angst, passion and hurt, that’ll make you want to shake them & “put on a get along shirt”…But it wasn’t the couple. I liked Frankie (FMC), I thought she was dealt a terrible hand & did what she needed to do to survive for her & her baby. It was the MMC that was awful. I was SO frustrated with Liam throughout this book. He was so arrogant & stubborn, and SO MUCH COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED if he had just said “so hey, I acted rashly, and I was wrong. I apologize”. Sighs. I almost didn’t want them to get their happily ever after because she was loyal to him to a fault, and I think she eventually forgave him a little too easily. He didn’t earn it, and I wish she truly had a chance to live a life outside of him.
I feel like this author used A LOT of words in this book. There were lots of parts that could have been left out to make for a shorter story, and sometimes the language used & the flow of the dialogue made me feel like i was in a historical era and not a current one. Also while I appreciated the Gaelic dialogue and how it added to the “authenticity” of the characters…it threw me off sometimes, trying to decipher what they were saying. You’d enjoy if you like complex characters, a second chance romance, and stories that don’t shy away from family & power dynamics, and topics of racism & colorism.
First, I love this series, but this book was not my fave or one that I truly care for. I did not like Liam. He let her on for 10 years and then he betrayed her trust in him by believing an enemy over her. His mother coddled him, and there was no true apology to Frankie when he did find out the truth. I don’t know why he needed to hear the truth from the one that betrayed him instead of the one that loved him, this book was long for no reason some parts could’ve been left out and conversations shorter. 3.5 review- her writing is impeccable.
I love black love. Although Liam and Francesca had to break apart due to outside influences only to come back together as one. This book of The Consortium showed how a true bond with your soulmate can never be broken. Whether they are far away or close, that bond, that connection will always be there. I love how Liam went through the emotions of knowing he messed up and corrected himself. What took me over the top is how he truly loved on a black woman.
Okay, so let me just say this: Dandridge Monroe did NOT come to play with this one! From page one, I knew I was in for a wild ride, and Ghàidheal delivered on vibes, violence, vulnerability, and straight-up vengeance. Like how do you mix high heat and high stakes this perfectly?
Liam was giving that brooding, dangerous energy but underneath it all? Whew, he had layers. I’m talking the type of man who will handle a threat with zero hesitation but still hold his woman like she’s made of glass. That kind of duality? I was here for ALL of it.
The FMC? Francesca was definitely a real one. She wasn’t some helpless damsel anymore—she held her own, asked the right questions, and matched Liam's energy without letting herself get lost in his shadow anymore. That’s the kind of woman I root for every time.
And of course, you already know there was no shortage of mess, secrets, and scandal sprinkled through the pages. I loved the way this book tied into the larger world but still stood strong on its own. And can we talk about those cameos from familiar faces? YES PLEASE.
If you’ve been rocking with this series like I have, this installment is going to feed your soul. And if you're new to it? Don’t even trip—go start from Red Roses and Regrets and get caught up, because Dandridge Monroe understood the assignment and gave us a book boyfriend who will be living in my head rent-free for a minute.
This is a wonderful story dealing with love, lust, revenge, and redemption while offering plenty of tears 😢 and laughter. 😃 The Author made me love Liam most of the time and hate him at other times. His treatment and words cut me so I know it hurt Francesca. Francesca is a beautiful strong woman who just wanted to be wanted, loved, and cared for. Trifling and jealous wiggas interfered with that with deception and lies. But she got everything she lost tenfold while her enemies can't say anything literally. I enjoyed reading this story and it shows love happening in many forms of relationships from parent and child, between siblings, between friends, and between lovers. It reminds you that blood doesn't make you family while simultaneously reminding you that family can be your worst foe. I highly recommend this book, series, and author.
Listen!! This was so good!! Definitely my favorite in the series (so far). First off, i LOVED being able to stay updated with everyone from the previous books! Liam was REALLY fucked up for how he treated Frankie and idk man, i woulda shot his ass on site! But i love them getting through their hardships, growing and getting back to them. Them cousins though…and that “family” whew! I was ready to fight! And i just feel like everybody did too much talking before taking somebody out. But shit was funny. The ants!!?!? Alastair’s head!!!! 🤣🤣🤣 Oh and i live for overprotective Liam, when he was ready to post up on the doctor checking his wife’s baby and he said “do yoo think I’m gonna sit ‘ere and watch yoo put a camera dildo up in my wife!?” Oh and i love love loved the Scottish accents!! 😚🤌🏾💋 Great read!!
This book was just wow... The anxed the drama the betrayal the delusion the me being highly upset with the freaking main characters for half of the d*** book. But I gotta say I thoroughly enjoyed Liam and Frankie tried my whole spirit just messed with my whole spirit. I was like are they never going to get their act together it took like 60% of the book for them to get their act together. Had me out here yelling at a f****** book because of they d****** pride. We need to idiots love each other hard they loved each other hard. I can't wait for Xexes book cause the way he on Vanya ass. Also priest I'm interested to see what becomes of that...sis don't keep me waiting too long
Okayyy I’ll be honest. Even though she put the translation in the beginning of the book. It was still hard for me to read certain words in the book. But in all this was a good story. This book was a little bit of everything. Love, angst, family drama, betrayal and revenge. Liam got me sooo MAD 😡 in half of this book. Because how can you have so much pride and ego. Wrong and still wanna be strong. Anyway! I love that they still got their second chances and happy ending. Some parts of the books was triggering ✨for me✨being tease about having darker skin. I’m glad Frankie stood up for herself and boss the heck up! Periodddd girl! She was a cute face with a dark side. As usual Jada and Smoke made the book funny 😂😂😂
I gave this book a 4.5/5. I thoroughly enjoyed the characters and their story. The secret baby trope is one that I like and dislike depending on the story. This one...I definitely liked. Liam was so frustrating in this story. He was so quick to believe his conniving cousin (when everyone around him never believed the story from the moment it was told).
Liam was completely out of his mind for showing up on Frankie's door the way he did and basically torturing her until his mother showed up. The whole time I'm screaming at the pages for him to wake up and get it together because he was destroying his chance at a family! Thank goodness that Frankie didn't remain timid and she didn't keep her feelings bottled up. When she finally got fed up and was out for blood, I believe she could be a little scarier than Liam.
There were a few pop ups from Jada in this book and I absolutely loved it!! She came crashing into Frankie's life and pretty much demanded that they were going to be besties. And we know, Jada gets what she wants.
Reading Liam and Frankie's story, learning their history, and getting to go on their journey to getting back together was so much fun. Definitely moving into the next book of the series!
I am not sure what was more interesting… the fact that the book was written so nicely to where the Scottish verbiage/ voice came so easily it was almost like reading plain English or the ease of reading some dark scenes. I shan’t look at an ant the same again. Frankie was literally a quiet storm to Liam’s aggressive monsoon…the complemented each other so nicely. Bhal, Xerxes, Vanya…can’t wait for their story but the character development data for Priest…oh yeah. Love the more than casual drop-ins from Owo, Jazzy and fav’s Jada and Smoke. This book has lots of dialogue and lots of action. Enjoy!
Liam & Frankie! What a delight! After all she has been through she still held strong & I love how she put her foot down with EVERYONE!!!! To know that Frankie is another Jada but maybe more vicious is mind blowing 🤯 Liam had me ticked off 60% of the book & Frankie make me want to slap her at least twice! I love how Bhal is the brother & NOT the cousin. Once the truth finally came out I was sooooo glad! Frankie is the perfect balance to Liam & I’m glad their time apart showed them that. I love that Smoke is talking more, Jada is still Jada. Yacouba is hilarious & Jasmine still is the queen! This was a great read.
Dandridge warned us in her author’s note that we would be mad, and she wasn’t kidding; this was a well-written toxic struggle love. If the goal was for me to yell at this book and want to throw it across the room, mission accomplished.
Liam might be one of the most frustrating MMCs I’ve read; he repeatedly refuses to give Frankie the benefit of the doubt, making it hard to settle into their romance. Frankie endures betrayal, psychological manipulation, and disrespect from nearly everyone in this story, and honestly, if she never found forgiveness, I wouldn’t have been mad — because truly, no one deserved it. A challenging, emotionally heavy read that definitely pushes buttons.
I’m woman enough to admit that the reason I read this book was because of the cover photo. And I was not disappointed. This is my first book by Miss Monroe, but it will not be my last. This is book five of the consortium series and it made me laugh, cry out in frustration and sadness, but it also made me kick my feet. Now I have to go back and read books one through four because all of those characters seem to be in this book and I want to know their stories too. Enjoy!
Liam and Frankie was like Smoke and Jada but on steroids. Even with all of the accents and trying to figure out what was really being said, you have some of the most gruesome killings I've ever read. Truth be told, I loved every minute of it!! There was a code to each killing, not just killing for the heck of it. I'm really addicted to this series and can't wait for the next books to come out. So many questions no answers. Impatiently waiting for the next.
Oh this was good. Liam and Frankie are a match made in chaos and love. From adolescence to teenagers to young adults, they have went through some tough moments in their lives. The pain, lies, betrayals, lack of trust and the fights they had to endure to get back to each other was both disheartening and funny at the same time. Liam didn’t know what he awakened in Francesca but he learned the hard way. She had heart and no fear. I love this story. Seems like Priest may be next. I hope there is a story for Xerxes and Vanya.
Liam and Francesca spent years tiptoeing around what happened between them, and that silence ultimately costed them both time, connection, and a lot of unresolved resentment. This was a slow burn in the sense of COMMUNICATE already about what went down, clear the air, confront those that were involved, and finally move on to y’all HEA. This story was a second chance romance that had heavy angst, hmmm a little grumpy/sunshine dynamic, a sprinkle of forced marriage, action, family drama, and just the right amount of spice.
This is Liam & Frankie’s story soo of course it’s second chance & angsty/tension filled. This is their love story & how they find there way back to each other intimately & romantically. This is their journey to rebuilding their relationship. This is also apart of the consortium series so of course there’s drama & action which I loved. I loved every bit of this book. I recommend reading the previous books but you don’t have to.
This book...just wow. Between the characters development, storyline, and the sheer amount of research it took to envelop the Scottish culture, sayings, phrasing, and breaking down basic Gaelic, is amazing within itself. Even giving us a glossary for us to refer to was nice. I definitely had to go back to it a few times. It was frustrating as it was beautiful. It's a dark romance...but this whole series is so book number 5 wasn't as much of a shock as book 1 or 2.
The Consortium series is rounding off so well. Frankie and Liam story had me in a hold. Like I wanted to slap some do right into Liam. The recovery back to each was let me find a word???? I can't 😆 but Frankie bossed up on him. Of course, I'm always here for Jada. Can't wait until the next book.
I enjoyed the chemistry between the main characters. Francesca was strong and demanded respect from Liam. She stood up for herself even though she loved Liam deeply. She held on to her identity as a person. She faced difficult situations, took care of her responsibilities, showed respect to her elders, and punished Liam with grace.
I never became a fan of Liam. The way he treated Francesca without knowing the full story was horrible. I realize that comparing him to Owo is not right because he set the bar high. However, Liam was quick to judge the "love of his life" and slow to get revenge on a lying cousin. The previous books in this series are a high recommend this book is just okay.
