It's a good thing that Eric finally managed to evolve his class. If he's going to have any hope of rescuing his sister, he'll need every advantage he can get!
The Sylvan Alliance's territories have been seized. Her champions slaughtered. A once thriving faction has been reduced to a single battered fortress.
If Eric can’t pull off a miracle and succeed where an entire regiment of skilled archers have fallen, then both his sister and all those who march under her banner will be obliterated by the muskets and cannons of their enemies.
It's time for Eric to show what one man with a few dozen oversized warthogs and an extradimensional storage space can do against an army of bloodthirsty orcs who actually think they've already won.
Join Eric on a wild ride of non-stop action and deadly peril as he shows the entire world what happens to a Necromancer’s enemies when they dare to threaten the people he loves!
I'm not saying it is bad, but the series is very much what this author has already produced just now under the heading of litrpg. There are even instances in the books where Alex is mistakenly used instead of Eric. I understand that authors on Kindle Unlimited get paid based on the number of words actually "read" of their book. However... There are too many instances where the same thought is repeated over and over again just to add words. The character sheet is absurd and is just there (it feels) to add to the word count. I skip multiple pages of exposition that have already been covered previously in the book, often not that long ago.
After daring so much, Eric Silver must again risk it all to save his sister from certain oblivion. He must leverage ever bit of his blood magic, cultivation, and necromancy to face down an army of orcs and goblin assassins looking for his head. This book was a wild ride from start to finish. Its a great read and I can't wait for the next.
This is my second read through, boy did I miss so much, speed reading the first time and not allowing the story to interlock properly. Hopefully as I continue the series the background and universe continue to grow for me.
This almost got a 5, but really bogged down at the end and ruined the flow.
The author is highly idiosyncratic, the writing tending to repetetive episodes of the MC realizing in the most verbose, scenery-chewing way that he has fucked up and is about to die. The villains are likewise scenery-chewing "You dare!" cultivation tropes even when they aren't cultivators.
Accordingly, this is rated on a curve, accounting for the particular "flavour" of the writing: i.e. I knew what I was getting into and still read it. It moved pretty well through most of it, but an (over) extended bolus of exposition in the last few chapters really needs to be edited down. Hell, the whole thing could stand a good copy edit. Still, it was long and held it together most of the way, so that merits a 4.
This series is problematic for me because I find the progress to be interesting, however the execution of the dialogue and prose is so overwrought and melodramatic that I was skipping whole paragraphs. The dialogue was stilted and way too flowery, worse than reading Shakespeare. No one talks that way. And having the same conversations over and over, some of it was cut and paste, just changing the names. It was hard work getting to the end. I recommend that the author read the dialogue from Jason Asano series…
I can’t wait for the next one just a week away. Eric is really doing his thing. Non stop action. I look forward to his sister doing more. My only complaint thus the 4 star rating is too much of him getting surprised and upset by how the orcs are treating the humans. I get it he’s fighting for humanity but he can’t keep getting upset and throwing away his strategy to almost die each time
MH Johnson is a outstanding offer thoroughly enjoyed this series I've heard the Silver Fox and enjoyed but that was part of that Series so far. I am thoroughly enjoying these current books and look forward to the next book in the series. Non-stop action is hard to put down recommend the book for anybody
I enjoyed it just as much as the first two. Good pacing and world growth. Ended with a lot of open threads but book four is weeks away so the cliffhanger feel is okay.
After a long wait, book 3 is finally released. The royal road chapters were taken down a while ago. Excellent chapter that is chock full of action. Amazing world building.
Yet another masterpiece from MH Johnson. This book is very fast paced compared to the previous two superb books in the series. Our hero is forced into confrontation after confrontation in an action packed third book.
The power and danger make for wonderful action as we see Eric increasingly face death and reap the rewards of such a dangerous path. Love the character path and of course the epic political chicanery that really brings the reader into the story.
Really enjoyed this book. I honestly think it was the best one of the series. Will say I love the family dynamics and what we learned about it in this book.
I enjoyed reading this book very much and I recommend this book to anyone who likes LitRPG and progression type of books with apocalypse themes and lots of action.
Delving into all the family members and friends is great. The decision to go with what best works and what can be done now is great! Keep the story going!!
