Water Witch
ALAYSHA is a witch who has more power than she can control and her father uses that gift to decimate his enemies. Over her seventeen years, her power has enabled him to become the Emir of a large land, where even as the conqueror's daughter, she suffers the prejudice and fear of those around her. When she is asked to annihilate an entire peaceful village, she doesn't realize it is the last of her own mother's tribe, and only discovers too late that the battle she has won for her father may cost her the only connection she has to her past, and with it the secrets to managing her gift.

A young girl raised by her distant father to be a warrior and kill his enemies. To live without emotions, no fear, and no attachments. She is his blade, his witch, and he treats her with disdain. She kills, never questioning him until she wipes out one village of people that have similar markings as her own. She starts asking questions about her dead mother's people and why she has to kill them. More questions are raised when one of the village shows himself to her and she doesn't turn him in to her father. The truths she learns are going to change everything for her future.
it is an adventurous tale of greed, power and total control. The witches of this world have wonderful elemental powers and I can't wait to meet more in the next book. The villains are evil and nasty, just the way I like them.
I got this as a Kindle freebie and sadly I didn't expect much from it. I've had some pretty bad luck with many of them. They are reviewed well but when read them I don't see it.
This book broke the pattern, it was well written with a well built world and characters. I did not want to put it down. It had a new and fresh plot not following in the footpaths of the mainstream books out today.

I recieved a complimentary copy of the book in exchange for an honest review. This book was a little slow in the beginning but quickly picked up. It is interesting and kept my attention because I wanted to find out more. Alaysha is a Water Witch who can kill people by taking the water from them and the earth. Alaysha is treated bad by everyone around her including her father. She doesn't know anything about her mothers family history until she meets Yenic, who then gives her information about her family and her powers. I hope this author writes a part two, because I really want to find out what happens with Alaysha, Yenic, her father and her powers.

Well written creative story.
I found this an easy read that pulled me in right from the beginning. I wasn't sure I could relate to Alaysha as she seemed so unaffected by the death she caused but quickly saw that was not the case. Her concern for her sister Browyn and Aedus was genuine I knew she would risk everything for them. I love the story and immediately bought blood witch as I miss the characters already

This is a great read for a fantasy witch mystic book. I enjoyed the premise and the suspense. The characters have grown throughout the book.

“When a witch can't control her own power, others will try to control her.” Alaysha is a unique witch raised by an emotionally distant father who uses her as a weapon to gain more land and control his subjects. She is raised in isolation and taught to view people only as targets. Fear brings her devastating power forth, which she can barely control, so she has learned to separate herself from her emotions. When one villager escapes from her power, her father orders her to track him down. Alaysha uses this opportunity to escape her father and try to find her place in this world.
In this character driven story of a young Water Witch coming of age story we are given insight into Alaysha’s inner thoughts and fears. However, a lot of the story is third person narrative. She has been manipulated her whole life and doesn’t consider herself a person of any worth, she is just a tool of war. Taken from her mother at a young age and raised captive by her overbearing and uncaring father she was seasoned for battle. When she learns the village she just decimated was the last of her mother’s tribe she is ordered to hunt down the one who escaped the devastation she caused. Being temporarily out from under her father’s control she seeks to discover information about herself from Yenic, who was magically protected by his tribe. They both feel an attraction to each other and he has offered to teach Alaysha to control her powers.
This is a unique story with an interesting set of characters that are well drawn. Ms. Askinson does an excellent job painting us a picture of her world in this fantasy. The plot moves at a steady pace, but the author was hesitant to give us too much detail at one time, I was often left wanting more. Towards the end we are shown a more honest picture, or perhaps just a different view, of the relationship between Alaysha and her father, Yuri. As a result I was left with more questions than answers. It seems we have only been given a view through the eyes of a rebellious teenager. I felt a little duped by the narrator, but it does add an interesting twist to the whole story. While there is no real cliffhanger this story is not complete. If you are interested to find out if Alaysha finally learns how to control her power, or how the relationship between Alaysha and Yenic turns out you will have to read the next book.

The story starts off shortly after Alaysha destroys an entire village. What she is capable of is laid out before us and it is quite horrifying. Especially given the fact that she can't really control it. She releases the power and if you're within reach you are DEAD. Of course, this power makes her quite useful to her conquering father. But it also leaves her feared and hated. Alaysha has spent the majority of her life alone and hated, constantly sent out to destroy. In a way, she is a slave. Thinking back, I have to admit, I would think she might be a bit more bitter. She was jaded, yes, but the story wasn't bogged down by it. Which isn't bad actually. Nothing worse than reading a story with a main character who constantly complains about her situation. Maybe it's because from a young age she's trained as a warrior and forced to cut off her emotions She isn't full of bitterness because she's been told warriors don't feel when they kill.
Only when she meets Number Nineteen - a young man who escaped her destruction of his tribe - and a little girl does she finally get a chance to feel. She learns to care, but also discovers it comes at a price. When she cares, that emotion gets used against her. She has escaped her father, but another has found a way to enslave her. But she never gives up. She is determined and driven to protect those she has come to care for. Even if it means killing a bunch of people with her power. Being trained as a warrior from a young age makes her convicted when she decides on something.
I only had a few minor problems. First, some of the wording was strange and pulled me out of the story. But since the story is fantasy, the wording works well with the characters. It fits the narrative. It's just a little jarring compared to a non-fantasy story. Second, there were a few minor typos. Not misspelled words, but wrong words. For example, no instead of not. The biggest mistakes were Alaysha's name once is spelled Alicia and Aedus's name was used before Alaysha had learned it.
Water Witch is the first book of Elemental Majic series and I am curious to know more. Especially, after the conversation Alaysha has with her father at the end. If you like fantasy, I'd recommend this book. Four stars, easy.

I really enjoyed this first book in this series. Having read lots of Thea Atkinson's books, I knew this one would not disappoint.
Alaysha is a water witch, but her powers of draining water from everyone and everything around her are very uncontrolled. She has never been properly trained in her powers, but she has been trained into becoming an unemotional, unfeeling and highly effective weapon for her father's army. She regularly defeats his enemies with no concern for who these people are until the day she drains an entire village with strange markings, so similar to her own. She finally begins to question why her father needs her to slaughter these seemingly innocent and peaceful tribes.
When she meets Yenic, the missing member of the last village she slaughtered, he reveals secrets and more about her history and powers than she ever knew before. Who is this man and how does he know so much? With elemental powers of his own, can he be trusted?
At first, I thought Alaysha would be a mindless killer, uncaring about those she slaughtered, but eventually she soon realises that everything is not as it seems. Her treatment from the rest of her father's army is despicable despite how powerful she is, but their treatment comes more from their fear than their dislike of her. They know what she can do and fear her for it!
I'm still unsure about Yenic - he seemed genuine, he definitely cared about saving Aedus, but after the revelations from her father, Yuri, at the end, I'm not so sure. Would Yuri lie to get what she wants from Alaysha? He says he wouldn't but I think he would!
I can't wait to read the next book in this series and see what Alaysha will do next!

Thea Atkinson’s Water Witch is an adventure in magical creativity. The story’s base places the reader in the midst of a world overrun by power hungry leaders and supernatural conquests. Delight envelops the reader as each moves further into the Alaysha’s world where ruling powers will do anything to control her and her powers.
The plot is well developed and interesting, holding the reader’s interest with no effort. Atkinson has created a new spin on the standard hero’s quest, rich with vibrant landscape and characters. Readers are caught in the middle of warring factions with Alaysha, whose solitude goes deeper than anyone dares to imagine.
Alaysha, the title character, is strong willed, beautiful, and powerful; but has no idea how much power she truly wields; of course, neither does anyone else. The other characters, most of them male, are just as vivid and well written. Most of the other female characters in the novel are young and all but powerless. It seems that the young and powerless characters reflect Alaysha’s feelings of being powerless to control her own life, or her powers.
I enjoyed each page of this tale, until the end. While I know the author has obviously left room for the sequel novels, I found the endpoint chosen to be off-kilter. It may be my aversion to Hitchcockesque endings, where one is left with more questions than answers, but the simple truth is- I wanted more, and not to have to wait for more. But then, I guess that’s what all authors wish to see in their readers, isn’t it.

Alaysha starts down the dangerous path to find out who she really is and to know her heritage, but who can she trust--her father whose love she craves or a stranger who seems to know her?
From the opening sentence: The call of the vulture is what brought Alaysha back, I was hooked. Brought her back from what? The more I read, the more gripping and all-consuming this book became. I didn't want to stop reading. Alaysha had latched onto my psyche and wouldn't release me until I knew her suffering--the continual pain of rejection she felt at the hands of her father, the utter contempt by everyone in her village and her abject loneliness. A loneliness ingrained so deep within her that it hurts to breathe. This is the masterful storytelling of Ms. Atkinson as she guides you through the story. The secondary characters, Yuri, Yenic and Aedus are just as engrossing and will keep you turning the pages until the final word. This is one of the best fantasy series I've read in a long time. If you're looking to get lost in a world full of magic, angst, deception, love and betrayal, this book is the one to buy. Highly Recommended.

Alaysha is a young witch with a terrible power, and her war-mongering father wants to control it. But magic with that kind of force isn’t easy to keep in check, especially when the power is too terrible for the witch who wields it.
It makes her a thing to be feared, not loved. A thing to abhor, not embrace.
It also makes her the perfect weapon because no one escapes her magic. And she'll do anything to win her father's love and acceptance.
When he orders her to annihilate a neighboring village, someone finally escapes her deadly power. Someone handsome, arrogant, and mysterious.
Someone who says he knows the secret to guiding her destructive magic.
If Alaysha can master her powers, she might win the love and respect she desperately desires. She might be able to finally find hope of a future where she is in control instead of being controlled.
But there is always a price to pay for such freedom and if she trusts this stranger to help, she might be putting everything she knows, including her heart, at risk.
This was a superb read.
The plot and story line are very good and original.
The characters are well written and engaging.
Was engaged from the start and once started didn't want to stop.
Going to be getting the others in the series now.

Very interesting "Concept of Witches"
Why does Alysha stay with the EMIR as his personal killer?? I'm looking forward to reading the next book to find out more.

This book was so emotional for me. It is a somber story of a young woman with the ability to draw all water from anything or anyone around her. I could feel all her emotions all through the book. She was treated so bad by her people. Especially her tyrannical father! I hated him so bad. He used her all his life to fight his war battles. Even when she was a tiny toddler and couldn't control her ability. He also never showed her any kindness. I could only imagine how it would feel to live all your life that way. As she becomes older, she becomes wise to how things aren't so all is fair in love and war. She discovers someone who was able to escape her deadly power. Yenic, hope I spelled it correctly, befriends her and an attraction is seen from the start. He also gives her more information about herself and her world. Things start to click into place. This story was so well written. The characters were really developed and strong. It's more of a journey than a full action adrenaline rush story. But it kept my interest the whole way. I had read the prequel before this book. I was excited to learn who the heroine was in connection with that book. I won't spoil it. But knowing what I know from the prequel, I wish I would've read it after this one. I think it would've been even more enjoyable because this book gives more insight to the world and powers that the witches have.

Alaysha has been doing what her father has asked of her for her entire life. Being a Water Witch, what he asks is always to annihilate his so-called enemies. Then Alaysha finds out the last few eradications she has been doing are actually removing the entire clan of her mother and herself. And that does not sit well. This story has action, a controlling father, a brother who is losing the war on sane, and, of course, romance. Highly recommended.

I really wanted to like this one because the opening sequence, and premise set up was really unique. It kind of ended there though.

The world building in this one, was really cool, and the type of magic and power involved was something I haven't seen pop up in other books. It's almost as if the outline for the book was more awesome than the book itself. Sadly, once the premise had been established, character motivation was inconsistent, and even their locations relative to each other, or their clothing/supplies changed without explanation. There were a few times that I found myself popping back a few pages to see if I'd missed someone moving from point A to point B. It was almost as if the scale of their environments changed around mid scene so that characters that shouldn't have been anywhere near each other were suddenly side by side.
If you have some free time, go ahead and give it a read, but if time is precious and you've got to triage that to-read list, maybe skip this one for now.

Water Witch by Thea Atkinson is a I loved book couldn't put it down when I started it . This is book number one in this wonderful start to a brand new series that I am so hooked on and I can not wait to read the rest. I highly recommend this story to everyone who loves reading about fantasy and historical fiction.

The Water Witch was generically bland.
The book started out better than it ended but it felt like it was missing something. The book is not a big book.
The way the main character was treated makes no sense. It's the impression that the author wants you to feel pity for the character and it gave her such a hard life, but in reality, there was no reason for her to live that kind of life. If Yuri was so smart he would have known that you get more flies with sugar than vinegar and treated her well. he had no problem being a human in the latter half of the book.
The writing was very jumpy and I felt like I had to reread many passages to try to keep up with the story. it bounces. I never got a chance to really see #19 and the witch getting together. It was contrived.
In the end, the author got the story out, which is good for her, but it could probably have done with another few revisions.

In the end, the author got the story out, which is good for her, but it could probably have done with another few revisions.

Alaysha has the power to end them all, she is a water witch. Ostracised and feared for her gift, she is used as a weapon by her father to decimate those who oppose him. She is tired of being used and runs away only to stumble on to an evil man much worse than her father. Into the mix comes Yenic the last of her mother's tribe and he has offered to train her so she has control of the power but he also offers her companionship which she has never had before. Interesting story how Alaysha comes into her own in a world that is foreign and yet still reminiscent of battle of old. She has to fight for those she cares about and refuse to mindlessly destroy her enemies. Whilst I did enjoy the story, I felt that the plot did not lead up to a certain event, it was pretty even throughout. No real romance, more of a story of about survival against all odds.

This is a powerful story . This story will blow you mind. It has lots of twits and Turns. Right where you think you figured it out the story takes you for a turn .

Alysha power is being controlled by her father . To kill all his enemies. The townspeople are afrain of her . She does even understand her powers . That is till Yenic shows up in her life . Yenic teaches Alysia how special she is . Once she knows what her power is capable of she knows she has a lot of explaining and showing somthe townspeople that she is not all evil.
Grab it and see does Alysha convince the townspeople what happens to her father .
The narrator Meghan was great. Her voice was strong , smooth and she brought the characters life

Tantalizing!!
Thea Atkinson has created a world beyond belief!! Alaysha is one bad a** woman!! All her characters come together in this electrifying story that I blew thru all 4 books in no time!!! Thea gifted me with this series, so I can't leave a review for all the books, so it's all right here!!! I've never wanted to jump into a world as I did reading this series!! I'm utterly useless for words, yet this series is stunningly beautiful, mysterious, sexy, sensual, gripping and just WOW!!! BRILLIANT writing from page one right to the end!!! I'm so very thankful to Thea Atkinson for gifting me more than just books!! She helped me escape to a very magical world and I finally am able to breathe...you're never going to want this series to end!!!

I was given this book for free and all that was asked in return was for an honest review. World-building was exceptionally well done as well as character building. The story line follows a young girl who has an incredible power that is not controlled because of lack of training. As she goes from one adventure to another and begins to learn her way around her world. The plot line is convulated with twists and turns and surprises. It grabbed a hold of you and did not let go until the end. I recommend this book because of that as well as it being very action-packed, and violence was moderate. This book was easy to read and hard to put down, and the story continues in the second book. It has such an incredible story line, and plot line.

If you enjoy paranormal books you’ll enjoy reading this book. The characters were amazing well written and the storyline drew me in I couldn’t put it down. I had to force myself to put it down so I could get some sleep. I’ve enjoyed many books by this author and I’m looking forward to reading more from this author

This was a keep you on your toes action packed book, once I started reading I couldn't put it down because I had to know what happened next. I saw the characters as if they were standing right in front of me and as if I was in the book living the story. Very well written and detailed storyline but the ending wasn't my cup of tea because I personally don't like cliffhangers because I'm not a patient reader luckily enough there are several in this series out already and I can continue on my way so I'm not to upset because I will for sure be reading more and highly recommend this author and her books.

This was a good start to this series. Alaysha has a hard life but didn’t know she could control her own destiny until she meets a stranger. An intriguing read it hooks you and keeps you engaged in the story until the end leaving you wanting more.

Water Witch is not of the genre that I normally read, but I thoroughly enjoyed every page. I found the content to be of a very macabre nature, but clean, well written, and very well conceived. The story line is such that you want to keep reading on through the night. I'll be reading the next in the series for sure.

I absolutely fell in love with this book/series. I couldn't read them fast enough. I enjoyed taking this journey with Alaysha as she goes from being a cold weapon of mass destruction to a young woman learning to control her powerful gift. She learns to love and accept herself all the while asking questions and finding answers about heritage.

I’ve never heard of a water witch before and how it’s explained makes perfect sense. It’s such an original concept! Alaysha is at the perfect age to start asking questions about what her father has been making her do with her power. I can’t wait to read what happens next. I’m going to download the next book immediately!

I enjoyed this story. It was not what I expected by the title but the concept was original and had me as a page turner. The story grabs you from the start wanting to know what happens next.

Great fantasy story. Alaysha has certain powers that everyone is trying to control and not necessarily for good. She has to figure out how not to let anyone do that. Enjoyable reading. Received a free ARC and the review is totally mine
