I love a good stalker romance, and this one had such an intriguing twist. It felt like Veronica was the one stalking Eli more than the other way around! Though it did start with secret gifts, Eli didn’t exactly play the mysterious card for long; he revealed himself to Veronica pretty quickly, and let’s be honest, she always knew who was watching her from the shadows. Veronica was such a fascinating character. It’s rare to see a leading lady navigating life with a chronic illness, and I absolutely loved how this element added depth to her dynamic with Eli. He didn’t baby her like her overprotective family, but he made it his mission to ensure she cared for herself. From making sure she ate properly and rested to just watching over her in his quietly protective way. * Sigh* His love for her was fierce, all-consuming, and beautifully tender. He would’ve moved heaven and earth to give her whatever she needed. Though there was no doubt that Eli was morally-grey and his moral compass was flexible to say the least when it came to dealing with problems like Victor, Jade or Doug. But when it came to Veronica? She was the center of his universe, and that intensity made their chemistry absolutely electric. I admired Veronica’s spirit so much. Despite her health issues, she embraced life fearlessly and with a hunger for adventure. Even something as ordinary as driving a car felt like a thrilling escapade for her. And while she was mostly tethered to her online world, the friendships she cultivated there were so strong, like when her friend Reed ran into some trouble. It was moments like these that being connected to the Bratva and having a boyfriend like Eli paid off. Problem solved! That said, the ending felt a bit chaotic with a flurry of unexpected twists. While it seemed like the plot was going to follow the Spato line, that turned out to be somewhat of a red herring. We never learn what actually happened to him, though I can guess. Then Jade popped out of nowhere, throwing me for a loop. Still, by the end, everything tied together neatly, even if it felt like the author was juggling a few too many threads. As for Eli as a foster parent? That’s going to be interesting! One thing’s for sure: the kids he and Veronica take in will have two fiercely devoted and protective parents by their side. All in all, this was an intense, captivating romance with a love story that burned brighter than the shadows that were once Eli’s domain.
