FROM EXCITING AUTHOR OF WHY CHOOSE PARANORMAL ROMANCE ELLEN MINT
Book nine in the Coven of Desire series
All good worlds must come to an end.
The apocalypse is here, but Conquest hasn’t won yet. It’s up to Layla, her guys, and the friends they’ve made along the wall to stop him. What hope do they have to pull it off?
After so much loss, Layla’s buckling from exhaustion, grief, and a secret threatening to tear her to pieces. Cal’s been running from his past trauma his whole life. The end of the world forces him into the role he’s terrified to take. Will he break or become that which he most fears?
Garavel’s forced to face what he did to save the woman he loves. His betrayal could be for nothing if he cannot stop the witch hunters in time. Tricky Raul thought he was outsmarting his old boss, but for all his skills, he can’t outrun the agency forever. Daniel might have his body back, but his fear of death grows deeper with each day. The apocalypse shows no mercy, even to those he cares for more than himself. He’ll risk everything, even her love, to keep Layla safe.
This began a year ago when a mysterious incubus appeared in Layla’s living room. She never anticipated this world of magic, monsters, fear, death, and love. Through it all, that demon of lust remained by her side. She never once questioned his faith or loyalty. But Layla will learn that there’s no line a demon bound heart and soul to a woman won’t cross.
Conquest has the armies, the weapons, the magic, and time. All they have is a strange spell that comes with a consequence only Layla can pay. Will she find the strength to cast it, and will her men love her enough to let her do it?
Ellen Mint adores the adorkable heroes who charm with their shy smiles and heroines that pack a punch. She recently won the Top Ten Handmaid's Challenge on Wattpad where hers was chosen by Margaret Atwood. Her books, Undercover Siren and Fever are available at Amazon as well as a short story in the Lucky Between The Sheets anthology. Married, she lives in Nebraska with her dog named after Granny Weatherwax. Her hobbies include gaming, painting, and halloween prop making. The basement is full of skeletons because they ran out of room in the closets.
EXCUSE ME, HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO BREATHE NOW?? So much stress in the second half, I fear I'll wake up fully gray tomorrow.
Death is the second to last book in this series, and it really packs a punch. Right from the start, Layla and her guys are battling creatures and trying to stop the apocalypse from happening, all while arguing with each other (so, business as usual, hah).
Layla is also dealing with losing her mother, but for real this time, and I FELT that sorrow as if it were my own. I want to give her a hug and tell her everything is going to be okay. BUT...IS IT??? IT BETTER BE, OR ELSE!!!!!!
There's this big thing that happened that made me want to throw my phone at the wall. After the last book, where things were finally looking up for this character...I'm sooooo sad. I just want to lay in my bed and cry.
Relating to that, WHY DON'T YOU TRUST ONE ANOTHER? HUH? HUH??? If I could yell at the guys right now I absolutely would. Because, you've been together for how many books now? And you still think one of you would sell the others (especially Layla) out???? No "brown sauce of deliciousness" for any of you. There.
(I had to add that line in somewhere, Ink always makes me laugh)
To lighten the mood a little, I also loved that taco scene, it was so random, but fitting in a tense moment, I couldn't help but laugh at it as well. Aaaand I want tacos now.
Anyway, I can't (well, I can, but I don't want to) believe I'm going to have to wait until the very last book to hear those three words from Ink. We nearly got it, and okay, it wasn't the best moment, but AGHHHH!!! Why must you torment me so???
I have no idea how everything is going to end, literally nobody is safe. Yes, I am slightly panicking, can you tell? I need everyone to make it out alive and I do mean EVERYONE. HINT. HINT. AHEM.
I need even the side characters to make it, I want them all to be one big, happy, dysfunctional family by the end of the series, okay?
Since it's ending on my birthday, I'm choosing to believe it'll all work out. Waving my magic want as we speak. Bibbidi bobbidi boo and all that jazz. Everyone lives, series over, me happy, goodbye.
*Thank you to the author and StoryOrigin for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review*
And another one!! I absolutely love this series. Thank you, Ms. Mint for giving readers this wonderful world. Not a lot of room for a whole lot of steaminess in this one. Don't get me wrong they definitely find a way to get some in. You know Layla is not going to abstain for too long. Our beloved crew is fighting Conquest and his horsemen with everything they have. The world is turning into a mess. Monsters are getting in through tears created all over. Layla has to be the one to stop it, right?
This book give readers a lot. There is a lot going on and I loved every minute of it. Our crew is evolving. Will they be the same after the wedding? Only time will tell. It seems every member of our crew has something personal going on. Layla has the weight of the world on her shoulders. Will she do what she needs to do to save the world from Conquest?
First off, do not start this book unless you can block out a chunk of time to keep reading! Normally I read after dinner, until I get too tired or fall asleep. But this book will keep you awake long after you should be going to bed.
Layla and her gang of sexy men are still fighting the battles that began at the wedding of Layla and Cal in Veil (which features the BEST wedding night scene ever!) Conquest, one of the Horsemen of the Apocalypse, needs Layla and her magic to, once and for all, do what he was destined to do by the humans whose flaws created him, and destroy not only the world, but all of the realms. Layla and her men are determined to stop him. Well, Layla is determined. The men just want to protect their woman--and hopefully survive all of the battles they're fighting now, and the inevitable encounter she'll have in the last book in the series--due out later this year.
In this book, she doesn't have much time to dally with anyone, but she manages to have wild, unique, steamy sex with three of her five men. Each encounter is all the more poignant because it answers the question of how you can love more than one man so intensely. It's obvious that Layla deeply loves each of them, and would do anything for them. They return her love with a fervor that guarantees they're not only willing to die for her, but to kill for her. But she hasn't forgotten her besties--the humans who were in nursing school with her, are also staying at Cal's house, along with pack members, and other assorted magical beings who have chosen their side in the epic battles of now, and in the eventual apocalyptic event to come.
BTW, you could probably enjoy this book as a stand-alone, but the action is immediate, from the first page, and doesn't let up until the last page. It's exhausting! To really understand the various plot points, you need to have read all of the previous books, starting with Ink. But I think if you do read this one first, you'll know you have to go back to the beginning, because this is an example of a great author at the peak of her writing--and you'll enjoy the ride all the more if you know where all of the interconnections between the characters began.
Oh, and I got an advance copy. I want to share this book with other readers, so I left a review. This won't be published until September 10, 2024.
Battles are being fought following straight on from Layla and Cal's wedding in "Veil". Conquest, one of the Horsemen of the Apocalypse is still moving forward with his plans to destroy the Earth and all realms. He just needs Layla, and her magic, to complete the task. But she's not going to make it easy for him and is determined to stop him along with her men.
The boys are everything to her and they would all fight to the end, willing to die and even kill for her. But they are all also fighting their inner demons. Cal is worried about becoming his father, Raul is realising how much he's been used by the witch hunters, Daniel is still trying to find his place while getting used to having a body again and Garavel is grieving after destroying his creator. Not to forget Ink who is still a sarcastic incubus, but he's got his secrets.
Told from the POV of all members of Layla’s coven, I particularly liked the humour and rivalry between the men, despite their shared love for Layla which has them working together, mostly.
A great read, full of action, tension, distrust among the boys, betrayal, grief, sacrifice, love and loss. This could be read as a standalone but with action from the first page it will make much more sense if read in order with the rest of the "Coven of Desire" series. With a cliffhanger ending we now need to wait for the last in the series, "Magic", which comes out later this year.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
We're finally getting close to the end of the series and I'm dying to see how Ellen Mint pulls off this final book against Conquest. This book had quite a bit going on with secrets being kept, new witchy spells, and surprise surprise…the guys still fighting between each other. I swear if they don't get their acts together in the final book I'm going to toss my phone across the room. It just blows my mind that at this point they still don't believe each of them is doing what they think is best for Layla. What I'm looking forward to the most is more Ink. I feel like he's sorta been pushed to the side after the first couple of books and I want him to finally have his moment with Layla. I want her to see the serious side of him and not the nonchalant, sarcastic facade he shows to everyone. I'm also very intrigued with his issue with Daniel. People don't realize just how much he sees and how much he knows until it finally hits them in the face, so I know he had his reasons. I can't wait for the full explanation on that one. Conquest always seems to be several steps ahead and that ending really proved that point. It makes you feel sort hopeless and like nothing is going according to plan. I'm curious how Layla will get out of that pickle she found herself in. Excited for the release of the final book.
Death is the penultimate book in this series. It was a great adventure, great story and all. I feel like the next book is gonna be action packed and very sentimental and it will probably feature the final battle opposing Layla to Conquest and hopefully save the realms. This book ends on a very big cliffhanger and lots of things happened I was not expecting and yet I feel like we don't know the whole truth about what did happen. Now, what I wasn't surprised about is the guys are still fighting each other at every turn. There's not really any development or growth at all on that side. Hopefully, it'll resolve itself in the next book, I'm still holding out hope it will. And that they will save the world together with Layla and have their HEA. I am ready for this story to come to its end and can't wait for the next book.
It’s only been a year in ‘book time’ Wow, it’s only been a year since Ink showed up in Layla’s life and started this unforgettable journey. Ink’s appearance brought with it magic, monsters and chaos, boundless love and possibly the end of the world. As this series draws towards it’s end (damn, that makes me sad!), the action is unstoppable, the emotion intense, and the story grabs hold and doesn’t let go. There’s unexpected twists and decisions that tear at your heart and through it all love between this unique group of characters. This is book nine of a ten book series and I cannot recommend the whole series in its entirety enough.
Ugh my nerves are rattled after reading this book. Layla literally cannot catch a break. After a sh*show wedding reception the Apocalypse has officially begun. The Coven is literally in disarray. Everyone is fighting with some sort on inner demon. Cal fears he will end up like his father, Garavel is still grieving his decision to destroy his creator, Raul has been faced with the realization that he has been a pawn to the witch hunters all his life, Daniel is still trying to find his place amongst the harem and lastly, Ink is still his sarcastic self but the events in this book makes you wonder what is he really up to.
This war is just beginning and Layla is at her wits end. Mr. White aka Conquest has been on a mission to get her since book 1 and now that his plans are coming to fruition it seems all hope is lost
This book was full of angst, tension, disharmony amongst the guys, betrayal, loss, grief, sacrifice and heartache. It just seems things keep going from bad to worse and it looks like Layla and the guys have bit off more than they can chew. There is disension in the midst and an act of betrayal has turned Layla's world upside down but I'm going to remain optimistic because I refuse to believe the turn of events in this story is not without reason.
We are coming to the end of the road and I can't wait to see how the Coven pulls off the unimaginable
You know, I thought I'd be more upset by the cliffhanger but NOPE! I'VE BEEN SEETHING FOR THE LAST 25 PAGES! And now I have to wait for the last book to see how all this resolves itself....I don't know how I'm going to do it.
This one tugged on my heartstrings a lot. If you've followed my reviews down this series, you'll know how much of a Raul girl I am. And Death delivered the 'I love you' I've been waiting for FOREVER! I literally melted into goo. It was everything I needed and have been waiting for!
And Ink...my heart bleeds. I got teased with something I've waited the literal whole series for only to end up with heartbreak instead AND I'M UPSET! I don't know that I can forgive Ellen for that 😭 maybe if I get it in the next one....I'll keep the torches and pitchforks handy just in case >.>
I am going to start this review off by saying that you MUST read this series in order or you are going to get completely lost when reading Death.
The story continues with the battles that the team have been fighting against Conquest but all of the characters are still holding a lot of secrets from each other - which is causing disharmony amongst the group and for me detracts from the Why Choose aspect of the storyline.
I am hoping that the final in the series sorts all of these out and that the questions that we have been left with over the last few books are answered.
It's the end of the world as they know it and no one is themselves. The group is fighting amongst themselves while fighting creatures from other worlds. Layla is exhausting herself to help the others but also hiding multiple secrets. Stone comes through but at a great cost to him mental state. Daniel is worked up into a frenzy and does the unexpected. Cal can't live with himself nor can Garaval.
There’s inner fighting and Layla is at odds with…just another day with the apocalypse guys. Excitement abound in this profound romance . Not so much jiggy jiggy but there’s enough to stave off the hunger…Has Layla got the strength and backing to cast once more? The end is near ,this is clear but to what end?..Awesome writing , compulsive and brilliant storytelling.
I'm voluntarily leaving a review after receiving a free copy. It is an excellent addition to the series that is filled with so much of angst, action and unfortunately loss. I hope everyone survives and that Conquest will be taken down. I can't wait for the next book to find out what happens.
Oh WOW!! If you haven’t read any of the books in this series you are missing a fantastic reading adventure. Layla and her men are up to there usual adventures into some pretty amazing things they get into. Boy do they ever. ❤️❤️❤️📚👍
The Apocalypse is well and truly underway in this book. Layla is struggling, exhausted. There's tension between her guys as they battle their own demons. A thrilling read full of heartache, sadness, grief and betrayal. Absolutely love these characters and I can't wait to read the final book.
Ms. Mint continues to write another great book in this saga of good versus evil. Layla and her crew are doing everything they can to fight Conquest. Will Layla be the key to solve the problems that are going on in the world? What will happen next, only Ms. Mint can let us know. I love this series.
Layla can't catch a break. There is so much happening in this book. It had me going rhe entire time bur especially in the end. Layla and her guys have been through so much and this addition in the series is no different. The tensions and thrills are growing.
Whoa! This is a wild one! Dark, dangerous, and spicy.. twists and turns galore. Love the witches, and the boys are more awesome than ever! Absolutely not to be missed..

This is just so awesome. It is fast paced and there are many questions to be answered. Is Ink a traitor? I cannot believe he would betray Layla with him having so many feelings for her. The story flows so well and I love all the characters (except Daniel) He is my least favorite character. Can't wait for more and hope all the questions are answered. Great read!!
