The Blue Orchid Society #5

Discovering Dahlia

Rate this book
Following a painful public humiliation, Dahlia Lancaster was left heartbroken, friendless, and shunned by London Society. But rather than dwelling on the balls she’ll never attend, Dahlia has turned her attentions to her unconventional inheritance—a steamship company. After a year of work, she’s preparing to launch The Aurora, a luxury ocean liner that promises to revolutionize travel. The invitation list is Dahlia’s closest friends—the Blue Orchid Society—as well as a few influential individuals from her old life, whose presence will ensure the success of her endeavor. Unfortunately, not all have the best interests of Dahlia or her shipping line at heart. Lord Meredith has loved Dahlia since their first meeting. But after her fall from grace, she has evaded his every attempt to see her—until she extends an invitation to join her on The Aurora. Once aboard, Lord Meredith and Dahlia’s tentative rekindling of their friendship is interrupted when things begin to go terribly wrong. Mischievous dealings take on an ominous tone, and it’s clear that someone is intent on humiliating Dahlia again or worse—but she will not be sunk so easily. With Lord Meredith at her side, Dahlia is determined to discover the culprit. So intent, in fact, that she doesn’t recognize another threat looming until it’s too she’s in danger of losing her heart.

This is such a beautiful story and a perfect way to end The Blue Orchid Society series! I loved being able to see the behind the scenes of the beginning of the society from Dahlia's point of view. We actually get that in each book from each heroine's point of view and I love that. It's so fun to learn more about them individually in how they perceive something.

My heart ached for Dahlia in the beginning of this book but I loved her sweet, kind, loving, and good character. She is truly one of a kind in her ability to look past hurts people have done to her and to be kind towards them. She is a strong woman. I loved that this series is set in the Victorian era and allows for this group of women to shine and to be able to be more free from societal constraints to develop their strengths and talents and gifts. Dahlia is doing just that in further developing her unconventional inheritance, a shipping line, by adding a cruise steamship. It was so neat to watch how a cruise ship would have functioned at this time period and the activities and people who might have attended.

Throw in some untoward crazy things happening and Dahlia is going to have to use all of her wits to figure out what is happening and who is trying to sabotage her cruise. Thankfully she's not alone. She has her dearest friends all on the trip with her and Lord Miles Meredith. *Smirk* You all are going to love Miles! There's a lot of history between this two. Years ago friendly, most recently not so much. But Dahlia is going to have to take some time to figure out if she can trust him or not because he is everywhere she turns.

I loved the Agatha Christie vibes throughout the book. It was so well written. A perfect blend of adventure, mystery, friendship, healing, and love. Well done Jennifer Moore for a beautiful ending to a fabulous book series! This reader is a forever fan!

Content: Clean. Some mild suspense. Sweet and clean romance.

I received a copy from the publisher, Covenant Communications. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.

Happy Reading!!!

"My Darling, I would follow you anywhere."

Discovering Dahlia by Jennifer Moore

CUE the Swoon! Ahhhhh I loved the ending to this series! It was the perfect way to end one of my favorite Historical Romance series. Discovering Dahlia is a story of sweet romance mixed with suspense and mystery, strong women with kind and beautiful hearts and souls, and lovely messages of finding where one belongs in the world.

I wasn't sure how I felt about Dahlia when I read Solving Sophronia. She swears off men and romance and marriage after an incident with one man. But that incident ruins her reputation and her chance at marriage. In society back then, women who were spurned or rejected by a man after being engaged to them or practically engaged were considered not marriageable.
So it takes time before she can open her heart again to someone else. And I began to understand her and adore her character as I read her story.
I loved that she works hard and makes something of herself.

I also loved all the cameos of this one. Sophronia and her husband, Elizabeth and her fiancé, and Hazel and her husband. We do see Vivian and her man (I can't remember if they are engaged or married yet), but they don't appear much.

The mystery kept me guessing. Honestly I had no idea who the culprit was and was surprised by the ending.

I definitely recommend this perfect ending to this delightful series. I binged the whole thing in one day I just could not stop listening to the audio!
Also, the audio was well done!

This was such a wonderful read! From the moment I finished the prologue, I was hooked and had to know what would happen next in Dahlia's story. I struggled to put it down! The suspense, the romance, and the mystery kept me eagerly turning the pages, and I was invested in every twist and turn of the plot.

Discovering Dahlia is the fifth and final book in Jennifer Moore's "Blue Orchid Society" series and wow, it did not disappoint! Dahlia and Miles are both part of high society and once shared a friendship, but after Dahlia was publicly humiliated by one of Miles' friends, she distanced herself from him. The rejection wounded her deeply, making it difficult for her to trust any man, especially Miles, who is connected to the person who caused her so much pain. They both end up on a ship excursion together, Dahlia, as the ship's owner, is in charge of managing the journey. But while on board they are shocked to experience some strange occurrences causing them to have to be on high alert, investigating what or who is behind it all. Miles steps in to help, and as they work together, the old spark between them is rekindled. As they uncover the mystery threatening the ship, they also find themselves facing the chance to build a future together despite the past that still haunts Dahlia. Can Miles restore their friendship and gain her trust again? Most of all, can he convince her that they could have something more? Will Dahlia take the risk of loving again, after all it took to heal from her past rejection? As they work to discover who is sabotaging the ship, they must also uncover the target and the motive behind it... before it's too late!

This story was wonderful, and even though I hadn’t read all the previous books in the series, I didn’t feel I needed to in order to enjoy this one. That said, I do find myself wanting to go back and learn about all the women in the Blue Orchid Society and their love stories. I loved Dahlia’s independence and her strength in rising above such a humiliating experience. I also enjoyed seeing the snippets of the friendship between Miles and Dahlia. I was rooting for them long before I knew how he truly felt. The mystery definitely kept me turning pages, and the forced proximity of everyone aboard the ship made for an interesting story!

I received a complimentary copy, and this review reflects my honest opinion.

This is the 5th book in the series. It works as a standalone but if you haven’t read the others you will know who ends up with who. Dahlia had her heartbroken a year ago and now is running a steamship company. Suddenly , people she thought she’d left in the past are back and on her ship. This makes things awkward. Miles was friends with Dahlia and the man she was going to marry but when things fell apart they separated too. Now Miles and Dahlia are together again and they get off to a rough start. But with nefariousness going on they have to work together.
I really liked this story! I loved Dahlia and Miles. Dahlia is a very smart businesswoman. I liked how she started letting Miles in her life. They were a great couple. The mystery element was fun. I liked seeing characters from previous books again. Overall, a great story!

I have thoroughly enjoyed The Blue Orchid Society series and loved Dahlia’s story. Set in the Victorian times aboard a steamship’s maiden voyage, this sweet tale is shadowed by a mystery.

I can’t imagine being publicly shunned during this time period, but that’s just what happened to Dahlia. She’s such a resilient and resourceful character, and along with her innovative group of friends, rise above the challenges of the times.

Lord Meredith has been in love with Dahlia forever and is caught between two impossible loyalties. I love that he fell first, but he also allowed for a natural pacing of communication and slow burn romance to develop, which made everything so believable.

I love Jennifer Moore’s way of writing and her knowledge of ships. She draws the reader right into the story and builds such a twisty turny, beautiful conclusion to a beloved series.

Content: mild romance

This was the first book I've read by Moore, and it won't be the last. Since this is the last of The Blue Orchid Society series, I'd like to read the other four books that preceded it. Not because I missed anything, you can jump in at any time, but because I enjoyed the book that much. I enjoyed both the historical romance and mystery elements, and felt that the book had the right mix of both.

The beginning of the book started with a tragedy (and embarrassment) for Dahlia that pushed her out of high society and left her hurt and alone. She even lost her best friend, Miles, who is also the best friend of her former betrothed, who created the whole tragic incident in the first place. I enjoy how strong and innovative Dahila becomes as she works to make a new life for herself. Miles winds up being on the maiden voyage of Dahlia's new and exciting venture into the cruise ship world. As a mystery begins to unfold, he finds himself wanting to protect and help Dahila in every way possible. I felt bad for Miles because he was stuck between two friendships, one from childhood and one that he wanted to be more. Both main characters were endearing.

The secondary characters in this book were fun, and if you hadn't read the other books, like me, they made you want to go back to the beginning of the series to learn more about them. I particularly enjoyed Mrs. Griffin and the other elderly ladies who were not going to allow their age slow them down.

This book is great for romance lovers, historical fiction junkies, and those who like a mystery with a surprise ending (yes, Moore got me on this one). All these things add up to a great, fun read that will take you on an adventure.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions are my own.

This enchanting book truly has a wealth to offer. I thoroughly enjoyed it! The setting, the historical period, the romance, and the intriguing mystery all captivated me. I was genuinely surprised by the twists in the plot; it kept me guessing until the very end. I highly recommend you get a copy and uncover its secrets for yourself. Though it's part of a series, it absolutely works well on its own. Thank you Covenant Communications & NetGalley and

DISCOVERING Dahlia
@jennythebrave

-I give 5 stars!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

“You are in charge. Do not forget that and do but allow any person to make you believe that you are any less or that you deserve any less.”

~Following a painful public humiliation, attentions have turned to an unconventional inheritance, yet mischievous dealings take on a different ruin, while another heat looms about and there is danger of losing one’s heart…

“Love may be simple and complex. But there is also an element of trust. A leap is faith, if you will. A moment when you give your heart to another and trust it will be held dear. With hope that they will extend theirs in return.”

-DISCOVERING Dahlia, is dear book #5 and final dear ending to such a wonderful series, The Blue Orchid Society, that follows the lovely Dahlia’s own story. Watching her take great frustration and heartache into a new luxury ocean liner in her father’s steamship company is rather remarkable and does not disappoint! Her drive to learn and contribute to society and pave the way for women to break out of the mold is refreshing! This story wonderfully combines a sweet romance, open communication, suspense, and even a mystery along the way, to discovering what the heart really wants and needs for dear Dahlia. Now, while this dear story could easily be read as a stand alone, I greatly recommend reading all 5 stories in order, as dear @jennythebrave has written them as a tribute-to “the women who came before and to us, the women who follow in their footsteps. And to the sisterhood that has marched along throughout history, often silently, and unnoticed, and shaped our world.” Worth the read!💯📚❤️

“I do not know what my future holds. But I cannot imagine it without you in it.”

•Content: kisses only, attempted murder.

“I do not want to take your life away from you. I am very much in love with you, and with who you’ve become. I simply ask to be a part of it.”

-I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.

“A partner. That was what he was…exactly what she needed, exactly who she needed.”

I feel like I’ve waited so long for Dahlia’s story, and I loved it! I had never thought about how cruise ships got started, and I really liked having the setting of this book on one of the (fictional) early ones. It was such fun and unique setting! I loved the mystery also. I had a few ideas on whodunit, but I wasn’t completely certain until close to the end, which I loved. I’m sad to say goodbye to the Blue Orchid Society, but at least I can-and will!-revisit this world when I reread the series.

While I think you could enjoy this book without having read the rest of the series, I really encourage you to start at the beginning so you can get to know all the Blue Orchid Society ladies and the other characters in this story.

This is a lovely conclusion to the series. I loved seeing Dahlia overcome her history and build her confidence. She knows her worth, and learns a supportive partner can be a wonderful addition to her life. And Miles is everything you want a MMC to be. Thanks to Covenant Communications for the ARC.

It has been such a treat to read The Blue Orchid Society and experience these beautiful stories as an ARC reader. I have absolutely loved getting to know these five best friends and seeing them fall in love and become pioneering women in their respective fields.

I have been anticipating Dahlia's story since the beginning of the series and loved getting to know her. In many ways, Dahlia is the reason the Blue Orchid Society comes into existence. When a public announcement of a betrothal does not go as planned, she seeks solitude but finds life altering friendship. Now, she is the president of her family shipping business and has orchestrated a first of it's kind pleasure cruise on the SS Aurora with her friends and members of the ton. I loved seeing Dahlia thrive as the leader of her company and seeing how she connects with her crew and guests. She has a gift for connection and that is on full display in this novel. I admire her strength, patience, and loyalty. Seeing her let Miles back into her life was also beautiful.

Miles has loved Dahlia longer than anyone has known and I loved the support he is able to give her. He sees her more clearly than Ruben or the Darling Debs or even the Blue Orchid Society sees her. To Miles, Dahlia is capable, independent, beautiful, and inspiring. I loved seeing how he seeks to reconnect with her and understand how to help her. While their romance feels impossible at times, Miles and Dahlia are truly right for each other. I loved their first kiss on the castle tower, their embrace in the cave, and how their love shines through when things go unexpectedly and repeatably wrong.

One of my favorite elements in this series is the unique time period that allows for such fascinating stories of women in new roles and careers. The Victorian Era offered so many new opportunities for women and I love seeing those on display in this story. Dahlia is the new president of her company because of a new law that allowed women to inherit such titles. I loved seeing her thrive in this role and see her dear Blue Orchid friends on the cruise. Their skills are needed from medical care to investigative journalism. This story (like the others in this series) is exciting and surprising. The mystery surrounding the mishaps on the cruise is engaging; I felt very invested in the story and in figuring out who was sabotaging the cruise. The twists and turns that reveal who is responsible are well developed and surprising. Just when I thought I figured it all out, a new twist surprised me!

Overall, a beautiful novel to finish a beautiful series about achieving big dreams and the power of true friendship.

I received a complimentary copy of this novel from the author/publisher. All opinions are my own.

I loved the "Blue Orchid Society" series, so it was bittersweet to open this last book, five years after I'd first fallen under the spell of the Blue Orchid ladies.

"Discovering Dahlia" is about a promising heiress, whose broken engagement and humiliation led to the creation of the Blue Orchid society with similar-minded ladies. All its members ended up finding their match in the next couple of years, and as this story begins, Dahlia feels a little lonely, as she doesn't have anyone to share her challenges, doubts and ultimately future with. While I think this is rather relatable, I was a little sad to find that the ladies' friendship was impacted by their respective marriages/engagements. It would have been interesting if this book had happened a few years later when Dahlia had truly had time to become well-established in her profession, and when the weight of loneliness burdened her even more but when her doubts about getting married were even stronger.

Dahlia, as a rich heiress, doesn't want to fall prey to a fortune hunter and has decided to carve her own path. She just opened a luxury ocean liner with her steamship company, inviting her friends and enemies (God knows why!) to join her on the maiden journey. While her former fiancé's presence and his wife's were explained, that of Dahlia's former friends remained a mystery! Especially as this first journey was so important for the reputation of the company... When illness and accidents befall several passengers, Dahlia and her old friend Miles Meredith must investigate. I found Miles and Dahlia's romance a little rushed — they did know each other years before, but they rekindled their friendship very quickly, in just a few days and without much chemistry between them. I wish there were more meaningful dialogues between them and thoughts about the implications of their courtship. The mystery was easily solved by the reader before the culprit was revealed, so while I wasn't expecting to read an Agatha Christie's book, I was a little disappointed to find out what happened so easily.

A book happening in a closed space is always interesting — I liked discovering the descriptions of the ship, its engine room, etc. The different places the ship stopped really added something to the story and I wish we got to explore more of these places.

Overall, it was still a cute story, as it was nice to see characters from the series make an appearance, but I feel like there were some loose ends and the romance was a little lukewarm. I still enjoyed this last book in the Blue Orchid series, and look forward to discovering more books by this author.

The Blue Orchid Society Series is a personal favorite of mine. Its women are strong and truly independent. Each friend shows great loyalty and intelligence to one another. Sadly, this is the last book, but it ends well.

Book five centers on Dahlia Lancaster. Society shunned her after a failed proposal humiliated her. She spent a year rebuilding her life. Dahlia takes over a steamship company via her inheritance. The launch has her friends and some foes aboard. Lord Miles Meridith, her old friend, still loves her and Dahlia doesn't know about the extent of his feelings. His devotion touched me, even with Dahlia's doubts. The romance builds slowly. But the pace seems real with all the shipboard events.

Here's what makes this book special:

-The Blue Orchid Society rallies to
support Dahlia.
-Mysterious events and dangers
abound on the ship.
-A French Chef serving delicacies.
-Friendships and loyalties face tests.
-A Magic show with "illusions" playing
a big part.
-A slow-burn romance with some lovely moments between Dahlia and Miles.

The mysteries surrounding the mishaps on the cruise are very intriguing and pull you in quickly. The twists and turns will keep readers guessing until the culprits are finally revealed.

You can enjoy this book without reading the others, but please start with the first book. You'll become better acquainted with the Blue Orchid Society ladies and other characters. This series celebrates loyal friends and confident women. You'll also adore the rare men who love and support their ladies and help them fulfill their dreams. This Victorian-era series is a must-read for historical romance fans.

This was the perfect ending to a wonderful series. I loved that everyone in the Blue Orchid Society (and their romantic interest) was brought together to spend time in this novel. Seeing them all together again was such a joy!

I love seeing how Dahlia has matured and grown throughout the series. She has been able to find in herself a strength and determination she didn't know she had. She also found something she enjoyed that gave her more purpose than going to balls and being seen among the ton.

Getting to know Miles was so much fun. We briefly see him in some of the other books in the series, and it was so fun getting to know him better. I love how much he cares for Dahlia and his friends. Trying to find that balance between friends that are no longer speaking is hard, but I felt he did a great job at showing each of those friends that he cares.

I loved the mystery aspect of this story and how it had all of the characters we love so much work together to solve it. I also must say that I was surprised when the mystery was solved (it was not who I thought it was).

This is the 5th book in the Blue Orchid Society series. It can be read as a stanf alone, but it is best enjoyed when read in order.

Discovering Dahlia is the fifth and final book in the Blue Orchid Society series by Jennifer Moore. This book is set in Victorian England in 1873 and includes the full cast of characters from the previous books in this series. It might be hard for readers to grasp all the names in this book if they haven’t read the previous books, so I recommend reading those first for the richest experience.

Miles and Dahlia are both members of elite English societal circles. They have some mutual friends, and have themselves enjoyed friendship in the past. Due to being publicly rejected by one of Miles’ friends, Dahlia keeps her distance from Miles even though she wishes they could be friends again. Miles holds a torch for Dahlia, and will do anything to be near her.

They get their chance at forced proximity when they both embark on a steam ship leisure excursion with their friends. Dahlia owns the ship, so she must manage all the daily ship operations and several mysterious happenings. Miles seizes the opportunity to assist Dahlia and the ease and mutual enjoyment of their former friendship is reinvigorated.

Together they must protect the ship’s patrons from an unknown nefarious person, and also see if they can forge a future together.

I enjoyed this book and the dual POV and of both Miles and Dahlia. If you like clean historical romance with a cozy mystery/suspense vibe and no heavy themes, you’ll love this book. There are a few great tropes too: age gap, he falls first, and friends to more.

This was a gentle story with a few slow parts toward the middle in my opinion, but the friendship and love that developed between Miles and Dahlia was very sweet.

The word usage seems appropriate for the time period, but modern enough that readers can easily comprehend it. I really enjoyed reading the history of early steam ship leisure travel excursions and also early female business owners during the Industrial Revolution.

Historical note: The Victorian game of quoits is mentioned often and worth looking up before you start reading. It’s similar to the game ring toss.

Content: No language, graphic violence, or explicit scenes. Kisses only. Appropriate for any age.

Thank you to NetGalley and Covenant Communications for a complementary copy of this book. My review contains my own words and is in no way influenced by the author or publisher.

What a wonderful story, finishing all the women of the Blue Orchid Society. I will miss these women, their strength and their fortitude.

Dahlia was humiliated at a ball, her reputation tattered by a cancelled engagement announcement. But through that event, she met a wonderful group of women. A group of women who encouraged and supported, who did not try to be better than each other. She then grew and made herself into something new, running a steamship company.

Miles had loved Dahlia for years, but the stars had never aligned. He tried to show her support after the event, but she was in a dark place. Now is his chance.

This book has romance, intrigue, suspense, and lovely scenery. The characters are well developed, and loveable.

I enjoyed Jennifer Moore’s Blue Orchid Society series, which highlights female friendships in the best ways. Discovering Dahlia has such a unique setting; I love cruise vacations, and it was so cool to read about the early days of luxury cruises. I do wish more of the book had been dedicated to the main couple, but I enjoyed this cast of characters and the bits of mystery. 3.5/5 stars

Jennifer’s books never disappoint. It is so easy to get caught up in her stories and this was no different. This is the final of the series, I would definitely recommend reading from the beginning. I love how Dahlia was a strong female character and she took a negative situation and turned it positive. Lord Meredith was compassionate and is just so likable. I loved the strong friendship between each of the Blue Orchid Society ladies and how they have each other’s backs. A true sisterhood. 4.5 stars

I enjoyed the mystery - surprised at the turn of events. What I enjoyed the most was Dahlia finding herself and loving who she found. I loved how she found solutions and didn't fall apart when things "fell apart" for a minute. It's important to sometimes talk things over to find solutions. You need to have a trusted confidant.

I have loved this series. I love the friendships of the Blue Orchid Society ladies and I love how they helped each other to find their confidence and ability to stand out from the crowd. I liked how this book had a mystery to it as we tried to figure out who was trying to stop Dahlia’s cruise from being a success. I loved how we saw old friends and new help her on this journey. I also loved the romance between her and Lord Meredith and how that worked out. I also loved seeing everything come full circle and problems from the first book get resolved and to seeing the growth of each of these women. Wonderful conclusion to the series.

Dahlia has always been one of my favorites in this series. I love her strength and honesty. I love that life’s setbacks only made her stronger as she rose above her past. A lot of the story was predictable but I was okay with that. I loved everything about Lord Meredith, except his name. I have always known Meredith as a women’s name and he was such a strong character that it just did not fit. The best part of this series is The Blue Orchid Society and I wish those relationships would have been more pronounced in this book. I have a group of friends that are my Blue Orchid Society and I love to hear of loyalty, love, and support in such friendships. Great series and great book.

Once I saw this was a part of a series - I went searching for the rest of the novel starting with the first one.

This is a great read of young women who were forced out their comfort zone to find their goals. I would not call it a hard read but well written.

I enjoyed it and would read more books by this author.

This is the fifth and final book in the Blue Orchid Society series. Dahlia awaits that announcement of her engagement at a ball, but when the announcement is made, she is shocked to hear her best friends name instead of her own. A year later finds Dahlia Lancaster aboard a cruise ship that she designed a maiden voyage with her friends and wealthy passengers. When unexpected things begin to happen, Dahlia wonders if she shouldn't cancel the cruise altogether. This book had a ribbon of suspense woven through it and was a great end to the series.

Thanks to NetGalley for an ARC of this book. This is book 5 in the Blue Orchid Society, and it did not disappoint. Each book can be read as a stand-alone novel. This book follow Dahlia, a young female entrepreneur, and Lord Meredith as they work together to figure out who is out to destroy her steam ship business. This book includes romance, adventure, and mystery. If you love clean historical romances, then this is a must read.

I liked this book. It was well written and happened on a cruise ship, which was unique. The mystery aspect of the story was interesting, with a ton of twists and turns. The broken friendships and the emotions were flushed out well. The romance itself was very lukewarm. I did not feel like Dahlia and Miles spent as much time with their feelings as much as they did, solving the mystery.
