Bonded Realms #2

Emissary of the Hidden

Rate this book
Trained as an emissary of the court, can her destiny lie hidden in the wildwood?

Like her illustrious parents, Lady Elloni Lutel was trained to serve the monarchy as emissary to friend and foe, even to refusing offers for her hand from very eligible princes. But being tasked to live among the ancient race dwelling in the depths of the wildwood just so she can ferret out the secrets of the new seer who has arisen? That might be beyond even her considerable powers of persuasion.

Bay Randene, Khan of the Falling Waters, finds the posturing of their new allies amusing. Born with the ability to sense emotions, he knows when people lie to him, but even he cannot understand why he must entertain this beautiful Stranger in his mountain camp. Faced with the choice of marrying or giving up his position as leader, Bay has been searching for a bride among his own people. But Elloni’s wit and intelligence call to him, and something more stirs within her that only he seems to be able to sense.

Elloni feels it too. Only Bay and his people can wield the mystical gifts, yet she has an ability she never dreamed possible. As others seek to kidnap her and weaken the new agreement between her people and his, she and Bay must work together to uncover the culprit. With danger marching closer every day, embracing their gifts and each other may be the only way to survive.

If you like closed-door, swoon-worthy fantasy romance—featuring intelligent, determined heroines and untameable, honorable heroes; dual points of view (hers and his); and a happily-ever-after with ongoing world conflict—in a land designed to sweep you away, grab this story perfect for fans of Kenley Davidson, K.M. Shea, JA Andrews, and Tara Grayce.

When I finished reading Seer of the Wildwood, the first of Regan Allen’s Bonded Realms books, I had only one question: when can I return to the wildwood? Her vivid descriptions made her fantasy world come to life for me and left me eager for the next adventure.

I was privileged to receive an advance copy and am happy to tell you that Emissary of the Hidden is even better than the first book, its hero and heroine’s struggles ones you won’t forget, the drama even more compelling than the first. And while I won’t put a spoiler in this review, let me simply say that the heroine’s gift led to some truly memorable scenes. If you’re a fan of fantasy romance, or even if you aren’t, this is a book well worth reading.

I enjoyed this book even more than the previous one, maybe because I had already been introduced to the people groups and lands in the first book. I definitely recommend starting at the beginning of the series for maximum enjoyment.

I liked the characters, especially getting to know Bay from the first book, and seeing Elloni introduced and growing throughout the novel. The two complimented each other well. Elloni is a strong woman but still very feminine, and Bay is not intimidated by her strength but respects and loves her the more for it. He is secure in his role as khan, even though a clock ticks on his position.

The idea of duty above and beyond self interest is paramount in this story, not only in the Khorrum people, but also in Elloni's role as an emissary of her own kingdom. Another interesting way it plays out is in the use of gifts: they are not to be used for selfish gain, but only as it will benefit the group as a whole.

Regan Allen has created a series to immerse myself in and I look forward to the next installment, enabling me to spend more time in this fascinating land and with characters who are becoming friends.

I received a review copy of this book but was not required to write a positive review. The thoughts expressed are both honest and my own.

Emissary of the Hidden by Regan Allen
Bonded Realms Series Book Two
Bay Randene, Khan of the Falling Waters, needs a khanna. After his parents died, for which he blamed himself, the Great Khan told him he had three cycles to find his mate. Marya, his brother’s mate, and a seer told him that Bay would meet his mate at the Corvyn market. Instead, he saves a Stranger and misses his chance. Or did he?
Lady Elloni Lutel has traveled the world as an emissary with her parents. Her aunt, the Monarch of Lutelan, has turned down every suitor who’d asked for her hand, so she continues traveling with them. She is rescued from an attempted kidnapping, and worse yet, she is sent to the wildwood so this Khorrum man can protect her! The things she learns about herself change everything.
I enjoy these fantasy stories so much. I like the characters and unique critters, like the kryal. Never a dull moment, and I’m always ready for the next story in the series.

This was a good romantic fantasy. I enjoyed seeing our characters from book one again. When our heroine Elloni, daughter of a princes, undergoes an attempted abduction, our hero Bay, Khan of his clan, rescues her. When her people entrust her safety to him, things begin to change. As they spend time together, they grow closer. As he is a mind-kin, he can sense her emotions. When unexpected things begin to occur, questions arise and answers are sought. This was an interesting read and I enjoyed the twists and turns (but I’m not going to give out spoilers). There were definitely some intriguing ideas here and, while this is a standalone, I’m excited to continue the series as there is a series long bit of suspense hanging in the background. This is a just kisses romance.

I received a complimentary e-copy of this book from the author and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

Emissary of the Hidden is the continuation of Seer of the Wildwood, this time focusing on the Falling Waters Khan (leader), Bay. He needs to find a mate to keep his khanship, and even though he's received a prediction from his new sister-in-law on the matter, he finds himself doubting he'll get a happy ending.

This second book not only develops Bay's (and Elloni's) story but also expands the world created by Allen. The story mostly takes place in the Falling Waters territory, allowing readers to see more of their community and lifestyle, but we also get to know other places and characters, which are, I must say, masterfully introduced by the author. Once more, we get adventure, romance, and a dose of political intrigue, not only among the Blessed but among the Khorrum as well.

This one has some great plot twists that I didn't see coming, as well as a beautifully matched couple—perfect for lovers of the soulmates trope. Also... nothing better than a MMC who knows what others are feeling 😌.

Wow, wow and WOW!
I highly recommend this second book in the Bonded Realm series!
Each book can be read as a standalone but I have enjoyed reading each in sequence and found that it enriched the experience as I was able to see other characters continue within each book.
If you like fantasy and even if you do not, I believe you will love this book/series as much as I do.
It has intrigues, magic and romance wrapped up within a strong plot. There is also a strong subplot that connects the books.
The author has created wonderful characters within her Bonded Realm that come alive within the pages of her book.
I enjoyed how the hero and heroine are both strong and gifted and flourish with each other in their sphere.
I cannot wait for the next in the series!
I received an ARC copy of the book and all opinions are my own.

Having read the prequel and first book of this series, I was familiar with the world, the characters, the issues, and the special details (animals, foods, etc) so I really enjoyed this book. I'm always amazed by authors who can create whole new worlds that make sense and bring them and the characters to life! I really enjoyed the animals in this one. Can't wait for book 3!

Regan Allen's Emissary of the Hidden is an enchanting adventure filled with romance, suspense, and a captivating world that will leave you anxiously awaiting the next books in the series. I could not put Emissary of the Hidden down!!

From the first word of Emissary of the Hidden you're thrown into the action but as with all enthralling novels, the tide of action ebbs and flows. Washing you in fear, suspense, drama and romance.

Bay has been a leader to respect in the last novels but in Emissary of the Hidden we get to know his heart... The person he's learned to hide so that he can be an honorable and just leader. This was such a sweet romance for two people who desperately need someone to love them as they are, not what they can bring.

If you're looking for a new favorite book, I highly recommend picking up this series, so far they've all been fantastic!
