Shards: Poetry of Beauty and Brokenness

Rate this book
In this book delving into the hard questions often kindled by hardships, Vannah Leblank shares her poetry on the themes of illness, brokenness, confusion, redemption and hope. In a story-like progression of poems building up to a climax of questions both answered and unanswered, she walks along the reader with brutal honesty, not shying away from hard truths, but also seeking the hope in the darkest of times.

Seven guests have also contributed their poetry at the end of the anthology, completing it with different insight on the same themes and quests.

Read on to see how even brokenness can be turned into beauty at the Hand of Someone who holds it all.

Vannah (and her guests) fearlessly bare their souls as they wrestle with the topics of hurt, faith, grief, loneliness, and the meaning of life in this beautiful collection of poetry. This compact book is a perfect on-the-go companion for readers wishing to be reminded that they are not alone in their quest for hope and healing.

This was such a lovely read. Leblank and the others do such a fantastic job of struggling through the problem of pain in her poems, as well as the problem of beauty. It is so hard, so seemingly contradictory for both to exist side by side in our world. Yet, as Leblank shows, they do. Pain and beauty are inextricably linked together, and not only so, but also made whole and redeemed together through the sacrifice of Jesus. In a world that is often lonely and cold, this anthology is a little shot of light and warmth that is well worth the read.
