Goddess: Poetry Inspired by Persephone

Rate this book
In her debut poetry anthology, Laura Barber draws inspiration from the Greek Goddess Persephone, using her myth to explore the multifaceted experience of being a woman in modern society.

The collection is divided into four evocative Kore (the maiden), Spring (the goddess), Death (the queen), and Persephone (the woman). Each part delves into a different phase of Persephone's life, reflecting on the complexity and depth of the female journey. Through vivid imagery and powerful verse, Barber captures the essence of transformation, motherhood, resilience, and identity.

I loved this short collection of poetry from start to finish. Split Kore (the maiden), Spring (the goddess, Death (the queen) and Persephone (the woman) it is full of warmth, emotion, life and reflection. Whilst the poems resonate with womanhood and motherhood they also explore relationships and shine a mirror on life’s journey. It’s the kind of poetry you can gobble up in one go and revisit time and time again. The way the book has been written means it is easy to dip in and out to suit your mood. Loved! Highly recommended.

A breathtaking collection that lingers long after the final page.

This book of poems is a masterful window into the soul of a woman—mother, lover, friend—each verse pulsing with raw emotion and quiet strength. With every line, the author invites us into her inner world, weaving vulnerability and wisdom into a tapestry that’s both intimate and universal. Thought-provoking and deeply powerful, these poems don’t just speak—they resonate. A must-read for anyone who craves poetry that feels like truth.
