Join four men, who, with their own personal struggles, cross paths in these two tales. None of them expects their situations to change, but love has a way of showing up when you least expect it.

‘Hate at First Sight’ by Michael Robert

On the anniversary of his partner’s unexpected death, and despite the warning of a late spring snowstorm, Blake heads into the forest of the Pacific Northwest. He is ill-prepared to face the elements but doesn’t really care anymore. He prefers to exist in the pain he cannot seem to escape.

Dirk, a firefighter stationed in a lookout cabin hundreds of feet above the forest canopy, has learned to accept long-term isolation. His career and outdoor lifestyle have hindered human connection until the appearance of a stranger who has no business being on the mountain.

‘Bare Naked’ by Garry Michael

Erik has no business auditioning to be on an outdoor reality survival show, especially one that requires teams of two to be naked. But he desperately needs the prize money, and somehow, he is chosen to participate.

Drew, an American sports icon, is drawn to the small stature of the beautiful young man in the television studio, hoping he’ll get the chance to choose him as his partner. Drew has a secret he’s kept hidden as he achieved the pinnacle of athletic success. Can he win the reality show again? Or is the real prize winning the heart of the naked man beside him?

Bare Naked-Garry Michael ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I shouldn’t have looked at the author’s IG before reading this as I imagined him as MC Erik. Perhaps he would like that as the author and the MC are attractive. 😉
I don’t watch stranded reality shows like the one in the book, but the backstage of it and the in front of the cameras seemed very real.
The Vancouver Island setting was interesting. I kept expecting a bear to show up. I always enjoy a new relationship bubble and here it was survival camping with cameras almost always on, so it was a filmed bubble. The MCs did take advantage of turning the camera off for their more private moments.
Drew and Erik are a great couple. I appreciated the fully detailed descriptions of both men. That they were naked the entire time made it even better! I enjoyed all of the sexual tension and interior thoughts in their dual POV. When they gave in to their desire I was glad that they were able to warm up in the terrible cold surroundings! The sex was hot and well written. 🔥
The abrupt way Erik and Drew parted seemed authentic and was a good scene.
The ending might have been a bit schmaltzy, but it worked.
I enjoyed this novella by a new to me author.

Hate At First Sight-Michael Robert ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
A good story in a perfect novella length. Some familiar tropes had me enjoying this. Unhappy MC Blake meets kind and cheerful fire watcher Dirk. They get off to a bad start with Blake’s antagonistic attitude at Dirk questioning what he is doing in the forest. Blake almost dies in an unexpected snowstorm and is revived in Dirk’s way above the trees fire tower. I enjoyed the scenes of their brief time snowed in together in the tower and I really appreciated the detailed descriptions of their looks and often naked bodies. The sex scene was emotional and hot. 🔥
The author knows their way around a bedroom! Or, fire tower, lol.
There was clear writing all through the dual POV story. The dialogue and the situations sounded real.
I would read another book by this new to me author.

Unexpected is a pair of novellas written by our favourite Husbands Who Write, authors Garry Michael and Michael Robert.

Bare Naked is a novella written by Garry Michael. It features Erik and Drew. Erik never expects to be selected for an outdoor reality survival show (particularly one where you and your teammate are required to be naked at all times), but he needs the money. Drew can't believe his luck when he's paired up with Erik. What started as strangers quickly turns to lovers as they fight for their survival in the woods. This was a fun, steamy novella with a good dose of heart and of course, a guaranteed happily ever after. I know there's actually reality shows with similar concepts to the one Garry laid out for us, which is absolutely wild! It was fun watching them try to deny their attraction to one another, and the spice packed into these short chapters was pretty impressive. Drew could be frustrating at times, and I found his argument with the one assistant director a little bit...clunky and over-the-top, but overall I enjoyed this one and I think it may have been my favourite out of the two stories, although it's tricky to choose.

Hate at First Sight is Michael Robert's contribution to the book, and it was my first time reading his work! This novella really lived up to the title, because it really was hate at first sight for Dirk and Blake. Blake was so unbelievably rude to Dirk when they first met that I was upset on Dirk's behalf. But as we get to know Blake a little bit better, his brash behaviour makes a lot more sense and he practically has a death wish as he heads into the forest woefully unprepared for the elements. This was a fun one that took a few twists and turns I didn't see coming!

Overall, this is a fun read that you can probably tackle in just a couple sittings! These two authors always deliver something a little different, and this was a great interlude as I go about my regular reading!

2 for 1 right here!

2 novellas in 1 yes please!

••Bare Naked••

Drowning in school loans, studying to be a dentist, so Erik is persuaded by his sister to sign up to be on a reality tv survival show. But not only does he have to survive, but he has to do it NÄKED, also with a teammate who just so happens to be a huge NFL quarterback he was forced to retire due to a knee injury.

Being forced into retirement due to an injury is never fun, so you find new hobbies. Drew Montana chooses to host his own survival show, and compete in his 3rd season of Bare Näked. But Drew is also tired of living the life he does, he has a secret only himself and his manager know, but the risk of that secret could kill his whole career.

Can this duo fight to survive the longest out of 10 teams? Last one standing wins. But have they already won before the game is even over?

Plot: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (different I loved it)
Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️ (slow burn for sure but it’s a novella)

Ohh Garry, my dear I just adore you and every character that you bring to life through words. I just loved these 2, Erik is shy, smart, hesitant, just all around adorable. Then we have Drew who is a broot of a man hiding in his own skin, who’s found someone he can be his TRUE self with. As always my dear so good!

••Hate at First Sight••

Blake is coming up on the 1 year anniversary of his ex-boyfriend’s deäth. Though it wasn’t the most perfect relationship his grief has him in a chokehöld. Over the past year he took up hiking as a way to cope, but hiking and lack of eating has made him thin. As the anniversary approaches he plans to hike and have a few overnight stays, hoping the seclusion will either swallow his sorrow or swallow him. But instead of being met by the quiet woods, there is a park worker asking for permits and being quite the dïckhead about it.

Dirk is gearing up for fire season in the Washington mountains. His 3 month stent in the fire tower is beginning, thankfully it’s been a pretty wet spring. He wants to get all settled into his new abode before the threätening snowstorm rolls in. While strolling back to his truck to get the last of his supplies, a man in a junker car I unloading gear to camp, well if you call the supplies he has gear. Inspecting that he has the correct paperwork to be up here, he does inform him that his lack of preparation with the storm rolling in isn’t sufficient and he highly suggests to him to head home. But the asswhïpe has his heart set on becoming a human popsicle.

Will Blake succumb to the elements, and meet his ex-boyfriend sooner than later? Did Dirk misjudge Blake at face value?

Plot:⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️ (it’s a novella but when it hits it HITS)

Michael, once again you’ve snagged my heart with your emotional roller coaster characters. The banter with these 2 cracked me up, but the hurt in Blake was just so heartbreaking, he deserved better but he didn’t see it yet. Until Dirk, the lonely not so boring fire watcher, ugh this man and his comfort skills 10/10 sir! So good!

Two novellas by incredibly talented husband who consistently brings us unique romances. They are well known for their character development. And these two stories aren’t any different.

Bare Naked by Garry Michael
Naked Survivor - where contestants are paired together and dropped into the Canadian wilderness with basically nothing but their wits and a camera. And the winner is the last pair standing. This pair - Erik and Drew - a woefully unprepared student and the previous season's winner. I love a romance bubble. Just the two of them trying to survive together, and needing stay warm *wink, wink, nudge, nudge*

It’s a well-developed romance with a break that leads to a swoony Hollywood style happy ending.

Hate at First Sight by Michael Robert
This is the second story I’ve read recently with a fire watch tower, and I’m hereby asking for more. Remote wilderness and a one-room tower are the perfect setting for a secluded romance.

Blake and Dirk do not get off to a good start! Blake is a walking dark cloud with a chip on his shoulder looking to escape life in the wilderness. He’s also not exactly equipped for the adventure. And he doesn’t appreciate Blake's concern or questions.

No matter how much Blake wants to throttle him, he can’t turn off his caring nature, nor can he ignore the intriguing and good-looking man, braving the elements to rescue the man, literally.

Now they are trapped in the fire watch tower, with nothing to do but stay warm and get to know each other.

Unexpected (a pair of novellas) – Michael Robert & Garry Michael

Bare Naked – Garry Michael
This novella was equal parts sweet, spicy, and unexpectedly emotional. Erik and Drew, strangers thrown into an outdoor reality survival show where they’re forced to be naked and rely on one another, had me hooked from the start. What started as teamwork turned into friendship, then slowly shifted into something tender and romantic. Erik’s shy charm, paired with Drew’s rough exterior but soft center, made their connection feel genuine, even in such a short time frame. The pacing worked perfectly for a condensed slow burn, and the balance of survival plot with romantic tension kept it engaging. This was my second time reading Garry’s work, and I’ve loved both—I’ll definitely keep picking up anything he writes.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨ (4.5/5)

Hate At First Sight – Michael Robert
This one hit a different emotional note. Blake’s grief weighed heavily on the story, and you could feel how lost he was as he tried to cope through endless hikes and solitude. Running into Dirk, the grumpy park ranger preparing for his own isolated fire tower stay, set up some of the best banter—and also some of the rawest, most tender moments. I loved that beneath the prickly exterior, Dirk was quietly offering Blake exactly what he needed: stability and comfort. The pacing stumbled a little at the very end, but overall it packed in more twists and emotion than I expected from a novella. This was my first read from Michael Robert, and I’d love to see what he can do with a full-length novel.

I devoured "Unexpected," a pair of novellas, in one sitting.‘

“Bare Naked’ by Garry Michael had me engrossed from the beginning.
What Eric did for money surprised himself as not an outdoorsy guy at all he found that with the encouragement of Drew he felt as if he could manage this outdoor survival show …..
When Drew realised that the closeness of Eric affected him he then knew he had to listen to his feeling ~~ he did!
A perfect ending ..

Hate at First Sight by Michael Robert.

When Blake camped at North Cascades via the North Cascades Highway not being prepared at all for the ordeal that was about to confront him!
When Dirk was doing his rounds of the hiking area he noticed a beat up Subaru the occupant was a guy called Blake the banter between them was hostile !
Their journey together took a while to happen as both were adamant that hate was between them , as life throws curve balls meeting each other was their beginning!
Wonderful reading…..

My favourite writing husbands have just made the great outdoors even greater with this pair of steamy novellas. These two are masters of writing sexy M/M scenes as much as they are capable of creating believable characters that are not afraid to be vulnerable, to reveal their most tender insecurities, making them perfect in their imperfection. While both stories are set in rugged, woodsy surroundings featuring rugged, woodsy men, I love that they are each distinct in their style, setting and unique in their storytelling. Both stories are entirely satisfying on their own, but it was impossible for me to put this book down and stop reading after one.

Book one was so freaking fun! I love Garry's writing. I was immediately drawn to the characters and their chemistry. The naked outdoor reality show was such a unique read for me. It felt fresh and fun the two main MCs were just adorable!

The second was a book by Michael. I had not read Michael and for this story was not quite as good as Garry's but also it was much heavier in topic and I am a bit sleep deprived. Still a cute story I just did not connect with it as well as the 1st!

Loved!

I love novellas especially stand alone novellas because it gives you a feel for how the author writes and if you will enjoy their book. The husbands who write gave us little slices of perfection as each wrote their own novella with completely different characters, different worlds, and different settings but complimented one another so well.

Loved these!

Two great stories. Bare Naked features a nerd guy and a jock in a reality TV contest. One of them is closeted and has to make some decisions. Hate at First Sight has a Forest Service employee in a fire look out who rescues the grumpy, unprepared hiker who irritated him earlier in the day. Both have a lot of humor and heart. And steam.

Quick but awesome reads. I loved both stories. I read both in one sitting. I need more like these. Loved the recorded naked, survivor type story with Erik & Drew! Erik was adorable! And as for Dirk & Blake, I loved seeing how their initial reaction to each other changed. Enjoyable reads!!!

Two quick read novellas in one.
While I liked both stories I think the first one (Bare Naked) was let down slightly by the quick wrap up ending. The second story (Hate At First Sight) felt a little more rounded out and, of the two, was my favourite.

Both Shorts are Adorable

I loved the nod to “Naked and Afraid” in the first short. so cute how they fell in love while practically starving to death!
The second was my favorite, I mean a drunken strip poker night? Who wouldn’t love that?
Definitely a fantastic read. Don’t skip this one. I do hope “ the Husbands that write” do it again soon!

'Unexpected' is a great and quick read with 2 novellas—perfect for on the go. The short stories were cute, with romantic moments and steam.
Bare and Naked by Garry Michael: Two guys trying to survive their best in a reality show where they have to endure naked in the middle of a forest. Erik, the shy young guy, discovers his strength and finds his first love. Drew, the hunk, finally comes out of the closet and gives genuine love a chance!

Hate at First Sight by Michael Robert is a second chance story. Both men are gorgeous, but Blake is so messed up by grief that his behavior and attitude are abrasive. Dirk, a very responsible ranger, doesn’t take any crap from Blake, and he’s there when Blake needs him.

I truly recommend it!
