Liliana Hart spent five years teaching music in the public education system. She molded America’s youth, busted kids for smoking pot in the restrooms, and broke up illicit affairs behind the stage on a regular basis. (Liliana’s Addison Holmes Mystery Series, about a small town teacher who gets into a whole lot of trouble, is somewhat autobiographical, but she won’t confess to which parts).
Liliana began reading romance novels with all her new found free time, and when she ran out of things to read, she decided to write her own novels. The result was a 150,000 word thriller—a dazzling adventure—where the heroine was a thirty-year-old virgin assassin (Yes, you read that right). She couldn’t imagine why people weren’t knocking down her door to read it, but she persevered and began writing a second book. She finally got the hang of things, and eventually learned that losing one’s virginity wasn’t all that romantic after all. All of her books involve some kind of suspense (she just can't help herself), laughter, and a lot of steamy sex.
Since the failure of her first attempt, Liliana’s books have won awards such as: The Daphne Du Maurier, The Suzannah, The Linda Howard Award of Excellence, The Maggie, and many others. Her affiliations include Romance Writers of America and Mystery Writers of America.
Liliana loves to cook, and is addicted to reading, Internet Boggle, kickboxing, and Bones. She lives in a big, rambling house in Texas with a couple of cats to keep her company. She loves to get emails from readers.
I stumbled on this series when it was on sale. But I have never looked back. The characters are well developed and I am invest in the stories. Jaye and Jack need to discover who murdered the honeymooners. And Jaye has to navigate being newly pregnant at the same time. The killing doesn’t stop at the honeymooners and time is running out on who is killing people.
You already know that I am going to continue the J.J. Graves Mystery series no matter what. I love JJ and Jack so much. I have been following their start from the start, and I can’t wait to see them navigate their upcoming development in their marriage (spoiler alert), aka JJ pregnancy.
I know it’s going to be challenging for JJ because she always had a hard time dealing with her feelings, especially about becoming a mother. JJ didn’t really have a great relationship with her parents or former parents, so it’s going to take some time for JJ to navigate her feelings. It also doesn’t help that both JJ and Jack are constantly surrounded with danger regardless of their job title. They are going to have a serious talk about their jobs. They both can’t be risking their lives when the baby comes. Major talk coming soon.
Besides JJ and Jack's new journey, they are both solving multiple murder cases that leave them with little time. Each of these murders is connected in one way or another. It’s going to be very intriguing how they interconnected.
Jack and Jaye are brought in to work a double murder at a resort, a couple killedon their wedding night. The bullets in a pattern on the woman are unusual, and match a tattoo on the bottom of her foot, and her groom’s.
She has an empty history, and as it’s uncovered they realize she was in a commune and likely escaped. Dickie, J. J.’s friend, was in love with the bride and was going to run away with her, but the groom was in a better position to protect her.
Dickie decides to sober up and goes to rehab, Jaye tells him she heard that the girl did love him too. The cult is tying up loose ends, killing a former ambassador, his guards, and eventually, capturing J. J.
The leader is still loose, but the killers in the county are caught, and all is well, baby and parents included.
This book was full of interesting bits, with the tattoos, diplomat, and Dickie’s return. Now if only Vaughan was in a story again.
4.5 stars…The book starts with a double homicide of a bride and groom and doesn’t let up from there. It’s an intense ride. You get so irritated with some of the characters who everyone knows are lying about what they know and the stupidity involved. There are some unanswered questions that I really wanted to know the answers to. Not sure if they’ll pop up again at some point or if we just aren’t going to get answers. There is also a major TSTL moment and those always irritate the crap out of me.
But overall a very good and entertaining read in a series I enjoy. Glad to see it is back in top form after the last couple kind of disappointed me. Looking forward to what comes next.
After 16 books, I’m still completely invested in the JJ Graves Mystery series. Liliana Hart remains one of my favorite authors, and Dirty Liars proves why. The mystery is gripping, the pacing is solid, and the character development continues to shine.
JJ and Jack’s journey—from the beginning to now—has been amazing to follow. I love how they tackle cases together with both heart and grit. Their partnership is a highlight, and watching them grow only makes me love them more.
Hart knows how to keep readers hooked while deepening the emotional stakes. I’m here for this series, always. As long as she keeps writing, I’ll keep reading.
I have read all but two of this series and they are really so good. This is well written and lots of mystery and suspense. They are standalone books so not necessary to read in order but it is helpful. One thing I like about reading Liliana Hart is she gives great detail of each of her characters. So characters from the previous series that I forgot about she refreshes my memory of them. I read a lot so I like this. Jaye and Jack are now solving two murders at an exclusive resort in the honeymoon suite who have been killed execution style. This is so worth the read.
My first in this mystery series and it could be a stand alone without having read the previous books in the series except for some references to JJ's past & her parents but that wasn't too relevant to the storyline.
Coroner JJ and husband Sheriff Jack Lawson are called to a murder scene at a local posh resort. They find the slaughter of a newlywed couple. Deep secrets are discovered about the bride and groom who seem to have married for reasons other than love.
JJ, Jack and their staff investigate even with their own safety in question. A quick fast read.
JJ and Jack are up to their eyeballs in bodies, as well as multiple suspects, in this latest tale. Ms. Hart is the master of story-telling and I love trying to keep up with her plot twists to solve the mysteries she comes up with. The relationship of JJ and Jack continues to grow and develop as their cases pile up and they are one of my favorite couples in all the series I've read. I hope this series continues indefinitely! Highly recommended.
Another great visit with all the characters I love!
These books are as addictive as chocolate and I am always so excited when another one comes out. Don’t want to ruin the surprise so won’t but love Jaye and her sheriff —- a great love story, real and this book was worth the wait —-even better with great things ahead.
Another great J.J. Graves mystery. The murder mystery in this book kind of reminds me of the mystery behind Scientology and the Miscavige investigation. Every book is always so great it’s such a bummer when it ends and I have to wait for the next installment. Can’t wait and hope to see more of Dickie and learn more about Ben’s whereabouts.
I love the characters in this series so much. I always look forward to catching up with them. This book contained an interesting who done it. The author writes the location of Bloody Mary so that it is almost another character in the book. She also writes small towns well. I enjoyed the book and would recommend the series.
Liliana does it again. So many murders! No clues. Omg. Sitting on the edge of my seat afraid to keep reading but unable to stop reading. Kaye and Jack. What a team. Tenacious. They leave no stone unturned. Happy Reading!!!
I couldn't put the book down it was so exciting! This author never disappoints and consistently writes one excellent book after another. I can hardly wait for the next one!
Another outstanding book in this superb series! This adventure is involved and each murder sends the investigation deeper into confusion, government cover-up , more suspects, and more liar so at all levels of society!
Unbelievable, the author never disappoint me. Jack and Jaye are still the couple I love reading about. Smart and resilient, I never guessed the ending though, the author always surprises.!!
This was so fast paced I almost got whiplash. I absolutely LOVE this series. The dynamic between Jack & Jaye is incredible. It never gets old and man this case was wild, absolutely wild. My heart was pounding at the end. I can’t wait for more.
Dr. J. J. Graves, coroner, and her husband, Sheriff Jack Lawson have a new case; a bride and groom shot to death the first night of their honeymoon. Why? As they case progresses, there are tattoos, more murders, obstructions and a cult.

I cannot get enough of J.J. Graves mysteries. If you like good mysteries with a great male and female team and just the right amount of humor, these are for you. Couldn't put it down
I love J.J. and Jack! There is never a dull moment on any of their cases. Following their story is so much fun and I can’t wait to see where they go from here. I would even like more insight into Cole and Lily’s relationship and also Sheldon because he is such an interesting character.
Love J.J. Graves and Liliana Hart. My heart stopped towards the end of this book but all good. I love the life Jaye and Jack have and their group of friends. Another great book by Liliana Hart
