Since the defeat of the wasp invasion, the elite organization G.O.R.E. Sector have remained busy in its hunt for giant organisms. At the forefront of its operations is Captain Thomas Rodney and the members of Raptor Pack. Their reconnaissance leads them to Badger County, Wyoming, where a new hive of giant hornets has been discovered.
The operation to exterminate the nest is successful. Yet, mysterious events continue to plague the area. A cabin is discovered, crushed like a tin can. Stretches of flattened vegetation line the ground, as though a freight train had cruised through the forest. Worst of all, a scout team has gone missing.
Meanwhile, Hayden Spencer and his children arrive at their riverside cabin to recoup from the recent passing of his wife. There, they too discover signs that something enormous is lurking in the area.
The two groups cross paths as the threat reveals itself. A massive snake, mutated from the genus Coluber, is on a killing spree and seeks to add the Spencer family and G.O.R.E. Sector to its list of victims. Shielded by bulletproof skin and strong enough to crush an armored vehicle, the beast quickly proves to be a formidable opponent.
To defeat it, Captain Thomas Rodney must embrace the hardest aspects to being a team leader.

I have fun with these books. I wouldn’t say they were outstanding when it comes to some grammar and the helicopter mechanics just didn’t work for me. Otherwise though it’s a fun creature feature read with good pacing and action and I still like the characters. Going to read them all haha
Nothing is more distracting in reading a book than sloppy editing which this book has in abundance. Tenses are not consistent within the same sentence, using the wrong word from a pair of homophones (heel vs heal), and even confusing the gender of characters. I was hopeful that this would be an improvement from the first novel in this series, however that was not the case. Also, the author’s understanding of the capabilities of helicopters is wanting: they cannot fly at supersonic speeds nor can they accelerate instantaneously to over 150mph, especially under heavy load. Oh, and they certainly do not come equipped with ejection seats. I understand it’s fiction, but when the author’s goal is to root the story in contemporary technology then certain limitations have to be respected. Like the first book I liked the premise, but the execution is disappointing.

Coluber is pretty much in the same vein as Hive—nice action with some tongue-in-cheek dialogue. It actually reminds me of the 90’s movie Starship Troopers in the best way possible.
The pacing was great, staying entertaining without going overboard. Being a short book works in its favor, telling a simple story that doesn’t need to drag on. The whole series feels like watching episodes of a TV show, one after another.
No new characters here, but the usual suspects kept things rolling. There were some chills, but nothing too scary—more fun than frightening.
I can’t wait for the next book in the series. It’s the kind of simple, mindless fun that’s easy to enjoy without much effort. If you’re looking for an entertaining, no-frills read, Coluber delivers.
Captain Thomas Rodney and the Raptor Pack return and while cleaning up the remaining wasps, another danger enters the world. A giant mutated snake tests the team and Thomas needs to learn to let his team do there jobs, rather than jumping in. Good story that moves at a nice pace, with a good team dynamic building.
great series, wish there were more G.O.R.E. books to read
Both G.O.R.E. books were a great read, kept my interest through the first one and paid for the second one which was also a great read. I hope the author writes more of the G.O.R.E. series books. Thank you Michael Cole for these book, a job well done!
The second G.O.R.E. Sector novel is just as good as theThe second G.O.R.E. Sector novel is just as good as the first. Non stop, well written action, and characters I would like to meet in person. Keep it up Michael first. Non stop, well written action, and characters I would like to meet in person. Keep it up Michael
Overall a good book, does well to keep the reader interested but has a lot of things that are far fetched even for a fiction book… realistically they could simply use precision guided bunker buster bombs on the nest, which will ensure great penetration and would be sufficient to destroy any and all of these monsters.
First we had giant killer hornets and wasps, now we have a 100ft killer snake! Raptor Squad are back in action, kicking butt and taking names. Continuing not long after the first book the gang are finishing off the last of the hornets when a new threat arrives. Non stop action and great character chemistry make this one hell of a fun read!
Just finished the second installment of the gore series. Extremely pleased with the pace, character development, camaraderie and the writing style. I had compared this series to the wild Hunt series in my last review. And I would actually now go As far as to say this is similar but defines itself in its own lane. On to the next
This one was better than the first. Getting to know the team better and having some new characters was great. This was creepy as I am not a fan of snakes. I liked the addition of scientific information on the target of the story. Michael never disappoints, and I am so glad I found this series. Moving onto number 3. Thank you.
The GORE have a new mutation to tack!e. A father and his two boys become the interest of the mutation. The GORE team happen to be in the area for the rescue. The pace is fast moving and you want to know the ourcome.
I absolutely love the characters and the monster possibilities are endless! I really hope to read more G.O.R.E. stories in the future. Mr. Cole has created a great cast of characters. I really enjoyed both books.
At times you gave a creature following instinct but abruptly you shift it to one doing has the infection wanted. I felt you either stick to one find a blend that doesn’t seem random.
Seems like G.O.R.E. Sector has job security. The creatures keep popping up. Hopefully, the characters from the first two books will stay alive. I do enjoy the storyline. Sci fi, but not quite sci fi all the way.
Starts right after the first book and rushes into action right away. Old and new Monsters make an appearance in this book. I’m looking forward to seeing what G.O.R.E. Sector encounters in the next book.
