A leading sports psychologist and performance enhancement coach--whose students include some of the biggest names in golf--discusses the inner mental game of golf and the tools golfers need to transform their games. 100,000 first printing.
“The Golf Of Your Dreams” (TGOYD) is by acclaimed sports psychologist Dr Bob Rotella.
While Rotella’s previous golf books focussed more on the mental side of the game TGOYD looks more at the level of perseverance and commitment needed to practice (and practice properly). In some ways it’s a book that can be applied to anything that you have a desire to improve upon.
While there is nothing earth shattering revealed it contains wonderful anecdotes of where individual’s games have improved or have plateaued due to their commitment (or lack thereof) to practice or working with their instructors. It also includes a template practice schedule for readers to use.
It is also a solid reminder that to improve your golf the player must commit to a process of improvement, accept that for all the effort the results don’t show instantly (and may get worse before they get better), but with patience and perseverance anyone can achieve “the golf of your dreams”.
TGOYD gets five focussed practice session out of five.
A great little book on the psychological and practical approach to playing golf and improving one's game. It was recommended to me by a friend who's a superb golfer, and who's friend gained dramatic improvements after following Rotella's programme. I skimmed over some paragraphs that elaborated on the history of certain players, but I shall definitely be heeding the advice from this sports psychologist.
