A real-life thread on an internet forum started it all. A nerdy otaku meets a girl on a train and posts an urgent query on the web--How the heck do you talk to girls? What should he wear on the date? Where should they go? The forum's response was amazing, and the thread grew incrementally longer as the nerd's relationship with the woman developed. Eventually published in book format to become a best seller, the thread spawned a blockbuster movie, a hit TV series, as well as this heartwarming manga adaptation of an entire internet community rooting for love and romance.
Definitely enjoying this series. It's so feel-good!
It's the second volume in a series about a geeky guy who meets a girl and who doesn't know what to do - how to dress, where to go, what to say. He has help from his online community which is good and bad. At least the girl really likes him so she's pretty patient.
A dorky boy stops a drunk man from harassing a beautiful girl. Clueless about how to go about asking the girl out the dorky boy turns to his blog and his loyal readers. He is flooded with responses and as his relationship with the girl grows so do the number of his online followers. It's these fellow bloggers that get me to chuckle the most--sometimes their reactions are just hilarious and they also save the story from being a humdrum boy meets girl plot.
It's a simple story really, but it's hard not to root for the hapless boy as he stumbles through love and discovers himself.
There is also a live action movie version of this manga that I'll have to look for.
I didn't find the central story and two main characters very interesting, but I liked the interactions with all the online commentators and their reactions to the updates.
Kind of neat that it was a real-life event, then a chat thread, then a novel, then a manga. That can't happen too often.
OMG, this manga/story is so cute! I can't believe any of my GR friends (the kind that reads manga) did not read it yet... It is part of the Japanese culture, and it is a very poignant story.
I found #2 and #3 when I went to this store (ok, I am lying. I went there specifically looking for this series... it is a "must-have" manga). Vol. #2 had me smiling and giggling, just like Hermes is when she is text-messaging Train-man. And the netizens are seriously the funniest secondary characters in a manga (or book, for that matter).
Kali ini Si Train sudah beberapa kali makan malam dengan hermes, dia sempat ketemu temennya dan yah begitulah............
