Another phenomenal installation in the War Bunny series! This book is action packed yet still manages to have a cozy comforting feeling. I love the character development, seeing how this lovable cast responds when their back is against the wall or when faced with impossible choices.
Being good is a decision we make every day and it’s so satisfying seeing the characters I’ve grown to love as they navigate tough choices to find out who they really are and who they want to be.
Shout out to Christopher St. John for being an incredible author, excellent sticker picker-outer, and loving friend to animals big and small.

Book three of my favorite cozy warrior series is finally out for the masses!!
All of my favorite characters were back with new antics, hijinks, and cliffhangers to keep the pages turning.
I always tell everyone that these books are soon to be classics and I think everyone needs to hop on board ASAP to say “I knew those books back when”. Huge shoutout to Christopher St. John for just being the coolest author and always being down to chat about the characters, answer questions, and sending the most adorable bunny stickers.

Our friends from the Million Acre Wood are back, back, back again! Old favourites like Anastasia, Wendy, Love Bug, Wellbutrin, Lorazepam, Death Rage, Bricabrac, and more return for a new adventure in the faraway, mysterious, bear infested City of Oom out east. We meet new friends (and foes) who round out the group in a story from Christopher St. John like never before.
Did I mention the wolves are back, too? Ohh, they are, and they still think they run this show.
Anastasia must choose between kindness and compassion, or the deafening voice in her head telling her to stay alive, no matter what it takes. Warren Sans Gloire must work together to find their missing queen before it’s too late.
Recommended for readers/lovers of animal fiction, adventure stories, YA, and folks who like being a little on the edge of their seat for basically the entire book. Enjoy!

This whole series has been so very cute and wholesome. I just love the characters and quirkiness, but it is also packed with some important, deeper, and meaningful messages. I just love this little world that St. John created.
Getting to the end and seeing that book 4 was in the making broke my heart a little. I really would have loved to see what's next for Anastasia and her babies. The author was such a sweet guy, and I am so sad that this is going to be the last title I ever get to read from him. I remember after I read and reviewed book 1, he told me that he had been so touched with my review that he printed it and added it to his favorites. I was incredibly humbled and appreciative of such a kind gesture.🥰🥰
I hope he's resting easy and surrounded and loved by all the bunnies.

Oh my gosh, this took me a bit to read just because I would get emotional that this creative mind is no longer with us. I absolutely love this world that he built. This story hit me in the feels with all of the separation and travels that happens in this one. It was a blast g difference form the first two where there are big battles and a bunch of hostility. It was a refreshing change and I adored it.
Anastasia thought the Summerday wolf clan was a huge opponent, but there are rumblings of the bears from the City of Oom planning to come and take care of the uprising. But that isn’t their only problem. Without the predators taking out their numbers, their population is exploding. With several problems arising, they split to find answers. And then Anastasia disappears and everything is in an uproar.

I literally could not wait to dive back into this fantasy series! Book 3 dived straight back into the wonderful world of the animals in the Thousand Acre Wood!
The author really captures the world and character building and Anastasia is just a fantastic main character! The book covers so many sensitive subject and it feels so relatable even though it’s told through the POV of the animals.
I loved getting to know the bears in this book and I felt so engaged and intrigued right through the full book. I’m still very much all for the bunnies though!
Fantastic writing and an overall fantastic series which I feel is absolutely perfect for younger readers. I will be keeping these books safe on my shelves for my daughter to read when she is older!

Book 3 of the War Bunny Chronicles.
I loved the cover of this book. Gorgeous and unique. I do love this series. I got into this book straight away. I couldn't put it down. I love this retelling of watership down. I love how when reading this book, it feels like I'm there watching everything happening. I loved everything about this book. The story. The plot. Everything. There was nothing I didn't like. I love the different animals and the names. Anastasia, Aliyah, Tennyson, and Freddie. I would most definitely recommend this book. The whole series.

When book three of The War Bunny Chronicles came out I knew I had to get my hands on a copy and read it.
The cover is stunning much like in books 1 and 2. The story also did not disappoint, I loved going back to the Million Acre Wood and visiting the City of Oom too.
The characters were once again brought to life by Christopher St John and the plot really captured my imagination.
Hats off to Christopher St John. It’s sad to think there will be no stories about Anastasia, Freddie, Death Rage, Dingus and the other fabulous characters in these books. They shall sit proudly on my shelf!

Another fantastic book in the War Bunny Chronicles series. In book 3 there’s more animals, more adventure, bringing with them more suspense, emotions and attachment to the characters.
When I started reading book 3, it was magical how easy it felt to step once again in the Million Acre Wood and find again Anastasia, Freddie, Wendy, Death Rage, Mabel and all the rest of all the big and little animals that have stolen my heart. This is a world devoid of humans, where animals are finally free to exist, but not without having to fight for their rights to live and subvert the status quo. Who says that preys have to suffer in silence and not fight back? This time the Free Nation has to face not only problems arising from outside, but from within too, forcing them to leave their comfort zone and think outside of the box, quite literally.
I loved following the misadventures of the different animals sent on missions to defend not only their right to exist and be free, but ensuring what they fought for so far wouldn’t be lost by short sightedness. The world built by Christopher St. John is not only fantastic, but it is credible, as every animal lover knows how intelligent they are and how each has their own personality.
Change is inevitable, and often you only need one brilliant mind to subvert everything by doing the unthinkable, so that what was thought impossible becomes acceptable. That brilliant mind is Anastasia and she’s my little hero!

‘City of Oom’ is the third and possibly last book in the War Bunny Chronicles. This entire series has captivated me with the brilliant and engaging storytelling and the beautiful and captivating characters. I love the way Christopher St John tells the story from all the different points of view whether that be rabbit, wolf or squirrel. This is a wonderful world and if you haven’t discovered it yet then you are in for a treat. Thank you Christopher

I originally found this series because of a Goodreads Giveaway back when I won War Bunny. That was the best thing that could have happened. This is both me and my husband's favorite book series currently being written. We love the characters. We love the world building. We also love how each book has its own flavor and brings new challenges for all our favorite animals.
If you love fantasy, animals, science fiction, and/or adventure, this series is for you. It is like a gritty Redwall full of animal antics and an ever-sprawling world. Given the politics of the series, there are also tinges of classics like Animal Farm.
City of Oom was one of our most anticipated books of the year, and it bested our expectations. Some of our favorite characters hit the road, traveled through cool environments, and met many new eccentric creatures along the way. Without any spoilers, the highlights for us involved some buddy cop adventuring, animal compounds, and the further development of both Anastasia and Aliyah. Also, Dingus is the man.
As a voracious reader, I have devoured over 100 books a year for the past few years. I normally know what will happen in a book, and I can see it coming from a mile away. What I absolutely loved about this book was that I did not guess the ending before it happened. I loved the way it ended, and I cannot stress enough that I thoroughly enjoyed the entire journey to get there. There was so much to say in the simplicity of it, and the message was resounding.
While not necessary for the review, I have to also mention that Christopher is a nice, thoughtful person. When we talk about supporting artists, this is exactly the kind of author we should support in the book community. He loves talking to fans and listening to what we say about his books, making us even bigger fans.

A truly wonderful read
This is the last of this series but I wouldn't mind if a dozen more were to follow. I've been so entertained by the energetic and creative worlds of those who Live in The Million Acre Woods that I feel they have become new best friends. I would like to say the world would be a much gentler and peaceful place if mankind could learn to exist peacefully as do the characters in this series. Although I know that's just wishful thinking, still it's not impossible.
The best part of these characters are the whimsical and completely familiar names bestowed on them. As a retired nurse they are a very basic part of my everyday practice and I laughed out loud as lorazepam, Wellbutrin, and others united to solve their societal issues and negotiate successfully with others to better their worlds and keep the fabric of their lives intact. Yes, it would be nice if people could do the same.
Three are possibly dozens of unforgettable references to everyday items that are incorporated into garments, games, armour and dwellings that we see and use as life melds and molds around us, here the names and constructs are imaginative and ferociously delivered. I admit it took me some time to finally figure out the sausage invention but "when you know, you know" suffices. I don't think you have to be a science fiction fan to read these books. My particular genre is historical fiction but these were a delightful change from more depressing and often morose works.
I highly recommend these books and I do hope there are more from this author to entertain my reading mind.

Wow. What a different kind of fantasy, all animals with fantastic names Aliyah, Anastasia, Wendy, Love Bug, Death Rage, Adderall, Throat Punch, Bricabrac, etc. This is number 3 in the series, but my first time setting foot into this world so it took a second for my brain to remember who was what kind of animal but it didn't take long to dive into this action packed book.
In the book you get POVs from different characters and it was so fun to see how each of the different groups talked and planned things out, it really made the pages go by quickly!
Sadly the author, Christopher St. John, passed away recently so unless book 4 was completed this is the last of the series. I will be going back to read book 1 and 2 because I want to know more of the back story of all of the animals! Especially the rebel rabbits, because deep inside I am a rebel myself.

This is Book 3 of Christopher's War Bunn Chronicles Series.
First of all, massive appreciation for that artwork - it's gorgeous
The animals are back, and the bunnies are back fighting for what is right! This time they along with the other animals, are up against bears and others.
As always, the story is engaging and intriguing, and I think it would be a brilliant book to read at a Book Club - the philosophical debate would be immense!
The writing is action-packed and pulls you into the thick of it, so it is perfect for young and old readers alike.
Christopher's way of writing is truly unique and is a beautiful blend fantasy mixed with real life styled situations.
This mix makes for a story you can really relate to and coupled with a brilliant ending... Christopher has done it again!

3.5 stars - This installment introduces us to new creatures and locations and is told from multiple POVs (rabbits, mice, wolves, coyotes, and bears). Some of the residents of the Million Acre Wood travel to the City of Oom to learn more about the ruling bears. Anastasia gets herself in a pickle and needs to be rescued. I enjoy seeing how the various creatures innovate. I hope there is a book 4!

After the fierce battle with the Summerday wolf clan in the second book, the third City of Oom follows loving Auntie Anastasia, Freddie, Wendy and the rest of Free Nation as they recover and prepare to defend themselves against their most deadliest opponents yet - bears.
I didn’t know how Christopher was going to pull this one of I mean bunny vs bear should be no contest right?…
Wrong…because Christopher yet again writes such a clever and unique way of prey outsmarting predator. His story telling is just incredible - the multiple pov’s from friends and foes, the separate side missions that all seamlessly tie in together for a jaw dropping ending 🤩 this has been an incredible series 🐇🐀🐿️🐻💜💚💙

I couldn’t wait to get back into the world of Anastasia and the warren. The way this book is written is just so clever and I love how all the little bits make the animals seem so much more human like. The arrival of bears added a new dimension to the tale but it keeps the camaraderie of all the other books which I really loved. A great read for all fantasy lovers but also all animal lovers too.
Unfortunately I learned of the death of the author recently which came as quite a shock. I have adored these books and am so glad he wrote them. I send lots of love to his family and will remember him fondly.

"The world was changing."

Several days ago we learned that one of my favourite authors, has died and I haven't been okay since. It was a shock, I still can't wrap my head around it, he was an amazing person and writer and these books are what we have left from him. I was delaying reading it because I knew I'd get overly emotional, I'm not ready to say farewell to this world, these books are so special to me, never expected to fall in love with them this much and to be this affected by this story, his words, and his death. He was a vegan, who wrote about talking animals and made them into the characters that I love and care for, they are funny, brave and loving, scary and brutal and kind, they are everything, everyone in this book is either fighting for their life, or taking it, and then there's Anastasia who wants to live peacefully and not to sacrifice herself to be someone's meal.
This world is complicated, even without humans most of the animals aren't safe, they are hunted, they are brainwashed into thinking that they should let the predators eat them and their whole religion is just entirely wrong.
Small spoiler, but I have to mention my favourite part, Anastasia saves wolf cubs and is questioning everything, should she kill them to avoid being hunted by them in the future, or should she raise them with love and see how it turns out. Her adopting the pups made so much sense, was so in character for her, I kept tearing up and smiling. This tiny creature is changing the world with her huge heart and it gets me so emotional just thinking that we could have gotten more stories but this is all we will have. Three magnificent books, who I hope will find their ways to readers hearts.

The author, Christopher was one of the people who got California fur ban signed into law in 2019 and had rescued bunnies freely roaming in his house, he was a vegan, who saved animals and wrote books about them.

Several days ago we learned that one of my favourite authors, has died and I haven't been okay since. It was a shock, I still can't wrap my head around it, he was an amazing person and writer and these books are what we have left from him. I was delaying reading it because I knew I'd get overly emotional, I'm not ready to say farewell to this world, these books are so special to me, never expected to fall in love with them this much and to be this affected by this story, his words, and his death. He was a vegan, who wrote about talking animals and made them into the characters that I love and care for, they are funny, brave and loving, scary and brutal and kind, they are everything, everyone in this book is either fighting for their life, or taking it, and then there's Anastasia who wants to live peacefully and not to sacrifice herself to be someone's meal.
This world is complicated, even without humans most of the animals aren't safe, they are hunted, they are brainwashed into thinking that they should let the predators eat them and their whole religion is just entirely wrong.

I love this series and couldn't wait to get back into the story of how the Bunnies take back their power to fight for themselves and their allies. Christopher St. Johns has made my year and has become my favourite series of all time. Who knew that a Watership Down retelling would be the book that consumed my existence but it did. I think the animal characters are so great and they have all the personalities of their human versions of themselves. I need more in this world and it makes me emotional while I was reading,

City of oom is the third book in the war bunny chronicles by @christopherstjohnwriter, I was very excited to be able to read this one as I read the first two and absolutely loved them and book 3 did not disappoint.
We continue to follow Anastasia, our rebel bunny! After their win over the wolves, Anastasia realizes there is still a lot that threatens their new way of life.
I adored this book, seeing familiar characters and reading about their adventures, while being introduced to some new ones. The way Christopher writes, just makes you feel so much while reading, rooting for the animals, wanting them to succeed, the world in these books was just fantastic and the details made for a story that is rich and almost magical. It's a story of hope and not giving up despite what you are told and made to believe.
This is definitely a series worth reading if you love animals and fantasy and want something a little different, I have had the best time reading this series. It is also with a tinge of sadness as I wrote this review, sadly while reading, we were given the news of Christopher passing, the literacy world has lost an amazing writer, with these books, you could definitely feel Christopher's love of animals and storytelling! He will be very much missed, but he has left a legacy of rebel bunnies for people to read and enjoy so he will live on in his books! ❤️

This is Book Three in the @War Bunny Chronicles.' I've read book two, so when I seen City of Oom was out I had to read it and find what the Bunnies were up to. The book can be read as a standalone, but I would recommend reading all three of the books, you won't be disappointed. The story continues with the bunnies and other animals fighting with the bears and more. Will they be able to survive? They head to the City of Oom, but will they finally find what they are looking for...
This is a fantastic series that will appeal to young and old adults, especially anyone that loves animals and fantasy. I have to say the covers of all the books in the series really stand out from others, making you want to pick them up to see just wants inside.

Writing this review was quite a sombre experience as Christopher, the author, unexpectedly passed away about 2 weeks ago, and Christopher is an author I'm quite familiar with, having read the first two books in the series ( Summerday and War Bunny ), so I was very saddened to hear of his passing.
As with the first two books in the series, City of Oom was a very enjoyable read and it was great to get back into the series and the amazing animal world the author has created.
It's been great getting to know the Rabbits, their comrades, and this time, the bears.
So overall, another great read full of vibrant details, wonderfully descriptive writing, and an engaging storyline.
I read this in two sittings.

This is the third book in the War Bunny Chronicles series and you may have seen my reviews for the first and second books, War Bunny and Summerday, back in May and August this year.
We're back in Free Nation with these mighty little bunnies and in this book we're all facing up to the bears and more.
It was great to be back with the gang and I was excited to see where this book would take us.
I absolutely love the characters both new and old and love the dynamics between the different groups.
It's been so easy to connect with these characters (even though they're animals) - they really do replicate modern life and some real issues that are important to explore.
This really is another epic adventure as we see the bunnies taking on their foes and fighting for what is right, even if the journey is a scary one.
The writing style is amazing and really transports us all on the adventures together. The world feels so realistic and I was completely immersed from start to finish - racing through this to find out the ending.
I know this series is really aimed at the younger audience, but I honestly feel that anyone and everyone would enjoy this and love diving in to each exciting adventure.

It is hard to separate the wonder of this book from the tragedy surrounding it. This is the third book in this series. It was supposed to be number three in a seven-book series chronicling the uprising of a group of bunnies and other prey animals, led by a visionary - though troubled (as many visionaries are) - bunny who realized the ways of the world weren't fair and decided to rebuke them. Unfortunately, unless the family has access to a rough draft and notes and cobbles together one more book that can never be quite what we would have gotten, as sometimes happens, this will be our final book in this series. Mr. St. John tragically passed away before his time, his work unfinished, leaving his fans wanting more - or at least this one. It certainly makes me feel - and worry - for long-suffering fans of a certain fantasy series.
Knowing that this was supposed to be a novel right in the middle of a series, it does a beautiful job of building tension, clearly setting up plot lines for later, and weaving threads for us to unravel books down the line. But as a surprise finale, it leaves us with so many questions unanswered. Even still, that is life sometimes. It is rarely wrapped up for us in a beautiful little bow. Sometimes, you meet someone on a train, hear their life story, part ways, and never get to hear the rest. As a writer and storyteller, that is incredibly frustrating! And I have one of those faces that makes people tell me things.
Even knowing how it would end, I would pick up War Bunny and the subsequent books, including this one. They are delightfully cozy adventure books filled with cute talking animals, hierarchies, battles, and so much more. The references and mystery surrounding the Old Gods alone kept me turning pages.
If you love fantasy - especially creature/animal-focused fantasy stories - you'll love this story. There is much futuristic science hidden deep in the pages, and there are some dystopian vibes hidden as well. Being that this is from the eyes of predators and prey animals, there are scenes of animal harm, so that is a big trigger point for many.

Here is my review for City Of Oom by Christopher St John
I really enjoyed reading this book and it’s a great addition to a brilliant series about how in the future rabbits fight for their freedom in the world and stop being part of the food chain. Anastasia builds a warren that welcomes all small animals and they live and work in harmony. Working and fighting against the bigger animals if they come near them. This book is about their continued fight and how the warren might need to expand in the future. Will there be enough food for everyone? It’s an exceptional read that has been excellently written and well plotted. It follows the lives of the main characters and aims to go to the City Of Oom in this one which is a long trek so they set out in pairs. We have journals from Mabel, Death Rage, Anastasia, Aliyah etc. They make for interesting reading and make the story. There’s lots happening and eye opening events. Can the rabbits and their friends survive? Do they find what they are looking for in the City Of Oom? The author has used his love of rabbits and inside knowledge of their behaviour well. Also, he has used his imagination to its fullest and best use and wrote this excellent series.

I am deeply saddened by the loss of this author. Each book in this series was better than the book before & it is incredibly sad Christopher will not be able to finish the wonderful story of all these unique critters he brought to life.
Where the first two books started out a bit slow, City of Oom flew out of the gate. For me, it had all the things I wished the previous two books had – including a map! A handful of new characters were introduced (including two new species not encountered by Anastasia’s crew previously) in this book and there were even some cameo appearances snuck into scenes which was fun. The world descriptions were much more vivid this time around and I enjoyed that & was aided by the addition of the map.

The side characters got a lot of page time in this book and it was incredibly fun to go to so many different locations with them. One thing did strike me though & that was Anastasia’s lack of mourning for Coriander. She was busy and “distracted” by events going on but I expected her to mourn her loss a little bit more.
Again, I would highly recommend this series to those who love books like Warriors and Redwall but just keep in mind that this book will sadly but likely be the series last installment. My thoughts go out to Christopher’s family and friends. Thank you again to Christopher and Love Book Tours for choosing me to be a part of the tours for these wonderful books. Rounded from 4.5 stars.

This is so good, so good. Oh Dah! This is so good.
The author once revealed that there would be "so many twists and turns to come". Boy, he was not lying! This book injects so much complexity to the characters, events, and the entire world setting. And the entire series is no longer about one bunny and one warren, but a world-shattering revolution. I really appreciate the enlargement of the scope and the largely neutral tone -- the preys are not necessarily good, nor are the predators evil; there is only the new vs. the old. It is up to each of us to decide which side to cheer on, or, I guess more profoundly, ask ourselves why we would pick one side over the other and what does that say about our approach to life.
The part right before the ending feels a bit too lucky for the main characters, but it is more than salvaged by the finale. That is a very clever way (maybe the only way? I was out of ideas when I was reading through that part) to handle such a dicy situation. That is not the only ingenuity in the book; there are quite a few more smart ideas and surprises scattering around, giving me a good nod and deep gasp from time to time.
I thoroughly enjoy the book and am deeply invested in the story. If the cadence is one book per year, I will be celebrating many new years to come with some rabbit magic.
