When Mitchel Creek, average mid-western I.T. guy, woke up, he expected to be home with his family -- not on a ship hurtling through space, centuries in the future. And certainly not with a dead body on board.
Mitchel's adventure to find out how he got in this mysterious, unsettling, and dangerous time and place -- and how to get back home -- brings him together with pirates and anarchists in a greater fight against an imperial government that seeks to control all the worlds humans have colonized since leaving Earth.
It also brings him face-to-face with a threat even greater than inter-planetary empire. Is he willing to risk this new world for a shot at getting home?
"Singularity Deferred" is a science fiction adventure that brings together elements of space opera and hard SF to create a dramatic story with mystery, action, political intrigue, romance, and a touch of humor.
Liam R.W. Doyle makes his home in the Pacific Northwest between gray skies and green mountains. Liam was born in Colorado in the shadow of the Rocky Mountains, lived much of his life on the edge of the Ozark Mountains, and now lives as fully as possible in the Cascades. He has an English MA from Missouri State University and has worked for a national non-profit organization, in communications and technical support, since 2008.

From the first page of this book, I read with the constant question “Oh my goodness! WHAT’S going to happen next?” In other words, I kept on the edge of adventure, on the edge of my seat, the entire time. When the narrator, Mitchel Creek, a long-suffering but reasonably happy IT guy from Iowa, awakens to find himself in not just a strange place-but an impossible place-my attention was caught and so will any reader’s be, I’m sure.
Mitch awakens in a room stuffed with crates, and very poor fluorescent lighting, so my first thought was: “oh oh, someone’s abducted him and left him in a warehouse-oh dear, oh dear,” thinking this would be some kind of crime scene in progress. Oh no, in a way worse than that: Mitch is aboard a spaceship! He comes from 21st century Earth, where even the space shuttle program has been scrapped, and he’s on a spaceship! Alone! Well, not quite alone-but he’s the only “live” one onboard-as he soon discovers. He also finds out at the end of his first journey that he is in a solar system not Earth’s but Sirius’-and he’s four centuries into the future!
Now any reader who doesn’t find that exciting is, well, jaded. So please, do yourself a favour and try this book. Yes, I realize it is first-person narrative; but-the author balances that nicely with plenty of action, adventure, thrills, dialogue, and twisted, convoluted plotting that will keep readers on tenterhooks (and part of the time picking their jaws up off the floor). “Singularity Deferred” is definitely worth a close reading.

An enjoyable book from start to finish. The intricacies that mean so much to the story are told in a way that makes it all seem so real, in other words this story could have been sloppily told but Liam's attention to detail made me stay riveted to the story. the characters are beautifully laid out and the story of religious zealots and overbearing government butting heads with the revolutionary "heroes" make this, for me, a book, while set 400 years in the future that I could easily relate to any time in history including the present. I was glad to see end of book 1 at the end and look forward to reading the second as it has a nice little cliffhanger ending.
Singularity Deterred is a gripping page turner. Once the action starts, it never stops! This is a terrific Sci-Fi novel - even for a Sci-Fi novice like myself. Can't wait until the sequel comes out!
An interesting tale, with a unique concept. There were a few editing mistakes that kind of bothered my OCD, but I was able to comprehend. The flow feels pretty good and it was very entertaining. As it was written by a friend of mine, it actually inspired me to try to get back into writing again, which I haven't done in quite some time. The text could've been a little more descriptive in places, and I feel like some of the pseudo-political subtext could have been a bit more limited. However, it was a great boost to my imagination and I'm really happy I finally got around to reading it. I'm looking forward to the sequel.
