Mike Ryan's baby brother dies in a car bombing outside of Naples, Italy while guarding a shipment of American currency. Witnesses see a carload of men flee the scene - men armed with Kalashnikovs and wearing Arab head scarves. The American government suspects the killers aren't terrorists, but with Operation Iraqi Freedom looming and the Coalition of the Willing becoming less so by the day, Washington is determined to keep their identity secret.
Washington didn’t count on Mike Ryan.
Bent on vengeance, the Naval Investigative Agent joins forces with Roya Solomon, a beautiful but testy Iraqi-American with her own dark reasons for pursuing the bombers. The trail leads the two of them to the Carolina coast and the cold hills of Pennsylvania where they find nothing but bodies. Are the killers turning on each other, or is Washington just making sure the truth remains hidden?
In this spine-tingling military thriller, Mike Ryan, a naval investigative officer, against the terrorists who car bombed his kid brother. But wait…were those really Arabic terrorists, or is something else going on?
This is one of those books that you can't put down until the very end. Part of that is due to the well-developed plot, but most of it rests on the shoulders of the intriguing characters. Mike Ryan is a kick ass guy with a heart of gold, but he's not a cliche. Likewise, Roya is also an interesting female lead. Together, the two of them have a lot of chemistry.
Because this book was written by someone who actually served in the Navy, the details are all very authentic. You never get the idea that the author was using 'tricks' to make the plot work. It's a speed ride with a very satisfying conclusion. I highly recommend this book and will definitely read other works by this author.
This is a Naval mystery along the lines of the TV show NCIS. It is available from amazon.com for the Kindle. http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_... The author was in the Navy for many years which gives authenticity to the details. This is his first book and features Mike Ryan as the main character. We learn about his history; his younger brother's death and the guilt he feels over it are the underlying motivations for his actions. This is not my favorite genre; however I enjoyed the book very much. The plotting was tight and the action suspenseful. Fans of military thrillers a la Tom Clancy will find this satisfying. This is the first in a series of Mike Ryan books and I look forward to the next one.
