Idina Moorfield isn’t the only one on her team with unusual powers.
Her buddy, Stop remembers everything he sees, and Cake is a new kind of man of steel.
That’s the last two, which means everyone in Idina’s unit has a unique talent.
Why would the Army want to bring them all together?
Her commander, Hines is still refusing to answer her questions. She’s on a need-to-know basis, and right now, she doesn’t need to know.
But Idina’s untapped powers are getting stronger and more aggressive. Not knowing on a battlefield can get someone hurt.
When they’re sent on a special mission, will she be able to use her green energy against the enemy?
The journal may hold all the answers but so far, it’s not giving up its secrets easily. Idina doesn’t give up either and like it or not, more will be revealed.
Okay, I'm a late bloomer who's a big DC comics fan and spent my childhood summers on the Jersey shore but I was born under a wandering star and have lived in different parts of America ever since. That's enough about me. Need to feel inspired today? Looking for something to make you root for an ordinary hero? I'm all about that in everything I write.
I love a good tale that makes me wonder about things and I love a story even more that leaves me feeling inspired or like I'm capable of doing more than I realized. That's my goal with everything I've ever written. Some of the stories I tell involve twisting, turning thrillers and others have a lot of magic.
There's something to be said for getting lost in another world and coming out the other side feeling a little better about yourself or the possibilities in front of you. That's basically the best part of life in a nutshell, no matter what kind of story I'm setting out to tell.
Things are definitely looking up for Idina Moorfield in this book.
Between learning all of the SSS Corp soldiers' various tricks, and doing what she can to read the mysterious journal that was posted to her, one week before she was transferred to HHC, at Fort Bragg, Idina, and her Squad of seven misfits, are suddenly sent across country, at night, and sent on a their very first training course together.
Suddenly, after three months of trying to do their best with what they had, they are facing some danger, and it takes each of them, with their own special skill sets, to complete their task together, successfully..
But just as the team reached the end of their task, they are attacked - not by fellow soldiers acting out as enemy fire, but by something that she is convinced is the magical enemy that has followed her ever since she joined up.
This leads to a discovery that rocks her new life within the Army.
This book was much more fast-paced than the previous ones, and it held my attention even more than they had done, which was fun to read!
But I've done my usual, and have ended up reading through the night, once more, so I'm going to get some sleep, for a few hours, before continuing onto Book Six: 'Fight Where I Am', to find out what's going to happen next so, once I've done so, I'll catch you on the flip side, to let you know what I think about this next book of the series!
This was better (in some ways) and worse (in others) than I expected. I forgot that single-narrator audiobooks do have "different voices" for various characters and that once I get into the story, many things can be ignored... it still felt somewhat flat, I admit. So strange to have tense moments without the appropriate music in the background.
I still do maintain the impression this was too "long". Like a pause. That goes on so long you would normally forgot what's happening except you're so much on the edge of your seat you really can't. Like when there's an award ceremony or a completion and the moderator gets an envelope and they open it and look at it and say "the winner is..." and then there's what English might call a pregnant pause (because English is weird) and it's still going, the silence is stretching and then the moderator starts on some funny story that this occasion reminds them of and then it seems like they're going to say the name of the winner but, no, not really and then we get reminded of all the contestants and then we kind of get the answer but no one knows what it means and did I mention just how frustrating this narration style is?
I generally find the artwork on any book Michael Anderle to be grossly chauvinistic. Heroines have ludicrously small waistlines and dramatically enlarged butts. And she is almost always clothed in leather tight fitting uniforms. And wearing some type of heel in an action pose. Honestly, I usually try not to look at them.
Opening, Chew the Bullet, the only time I look at the cover, was surprising. Idina, the MC, has the typical barbie doll physique which made me roll my eyes, but! She also literally has a bag of tricks hanging off her shoulder!
I'll admit to chuckling over that. I think I might go back and look for some more puns in the art on other books.
I still feel unable to give more than a three star rating. Again, the story continues in book five and actually became more interesting. But why so long winded to get some positive action in book five. The first four books were a massive and boring build up to book five. Can book six finally lift the tedium and be more active and a little more exciting. It is going to be interesting to see how uncle and niece work together. Will Idina get a promotion she desperately deserves. I sincerely hope that book six brings the story out from the shadows and becomes all that it should be.
Well Idina's unit has seen her green. So has Major Hines boss. Time in the hospital with a diagnosis of seizures but that's not right. Why won't anyone tell her what's going on? The SSS unit is sent out on a mission even though the only things they've done together has been clean up or clean out various places in or near their building. Another fight with Ocl,he's to strong, someone with green powers steps in. Who? Then the promised envelope from Major Hines... Great job. Thank you!!
"Of the two soldiers in Triple-S on whom Idina still hadn’t managed to crack the code, so to speak, Corporal Bunt was now the last. Once she figured out what made Cake tick—the proof that he didn’t belong in the new misfit unit someone had tossed them all in together—her little side mission for Major Hines would be complete. Then I get my answers about the journal and my green lights. Hines better come through." - Idina
One down, one to go... Couldn't be THAT tough, could it....?
Idina might have finally admitted that her green lights might be magic. And, Idina's throw-away unit is finally starting to look like a real Army unit even though they haven't performed even one mission together - until now. It's only a training mission but things go from bad to worse to weird. Just prior to an unexpected trip at the end of the story Idina finally learns what she has always wanted to know about herself and her family. The final reveal at the end of the story seems to pull it all together. I really enjoyed this latest installment to the story.
Chew the Bullet, the fifth book of the Warrior series, is an ebook I borrowed through Kindle Unlimited (KU). A lot of action and story progression in this book. The reveals were often predictable, but the characters make this series so interesting, regardless of the weak points in the plot. Looking forward to the release of book six, and still mumbling under my breath about the cover model choice.
Was looking forward to this book immensely and it soared above my expectations. Couldn’t put it down. The team comes together and there is so much delightful character development and team building. And we finally see some of the pieces come together (which I won’t spoil for you).
Just have to say how much I enjoyed the suspenseful action scenes peppered with the quirks of Idina’s team providing some comic relief.
I love a good military science fiction novel! In each of the five books in the series thus far, the authors lead you skillfully deeper into the Moorefield mystery. The meeting between Idina and her Uncle Richard, is greatly to be desired. So many tantalizing questions still unanswered! So many unique and intriguing characters. Will satisfaction be found in the upcoming sixth book? I hope to find out.
I stayed up all night reading this next chapter in the life of Idina Moorfield because I couldn't put it down. I am totally invested in learning more about Idina and the Triple S. Several secrets were revealed but there is still so much learn. I would have given this 10 stars if possible.
Things are starting to speed up for Idina and her company. They get sent on a mission with a lot of action and some unexpected magic. This series is very good and in each book Idina is learning more about her powers and her family's past. I am looking forward to the next book to see what else she learns and what new missions she and her company get sent on.
This book has the humor you expect from these writers, and they've managed to make a military/paranormal series fun and interesting. This is one more installment in Idina's journey to discover more about her power and her family's history. This is well done here!
I've really gotten into this series. It started out kinda boring, but I think each book has gotten successively better. Idina and her military life compared to her family are infinitely more interesting. This book ended with a bit of a cliffhanger, but that's okay for me.....on to the next!
Idina first uses her analytical abilities along with the Army training she’s received to help turn her misfits into more of a real Army unit, whereupon they are shocked at being sent out for a genuine training mission. They continue to learn more about each other along the way and have an unexpected encounter with a different sort of enemy.
I loved how the team comes together on this field exercise. They strike out and accomplish their goal even with almost getting captured. Even when the enemy shows up at the end they still take it in stride and manage to work together. This book is definitely better than the last one so keep reading.
FYI I love the covers Although I do not think Idina has ever fired a pistol while in the Army Great story Great characters I am hoping the Support Supply Squad sticks around as they are all enjoyable The “surprise” in this was foreshadowed a lot so not so much of a surprise, but fun none the else Great story telling Looking forward to the next one
The fun continues while the troops are circling the wagons. Good continuation of this story. I love the characters and how they all work together. I was a bit disappointed that I figured out the big secret be for this book. I am glad to see I was right. On to the next one for me, happy reading.
As Idina continues to learn more of her history, she helps to discover the individual strengths and weaknesses of her team in SSS, using their skills in unexpected ways to complete their first training exercise.
This series keeps getting better and better!if Of course I quickly realized who the commander was! In fact it became clearer the further into the tale I got! I can't wait for the next episode!
Too detailed in many areas. Good editing would make for a more pleasant and interesting read. About a third of the words could go and still make all the points in the story.
10\10 for being a completely unique take on majik!
Idina is different from other characters and her being in the Army under such odd circumstances compliments the unusual majik she possess. Weirdly wonderful story!!! Howard S (the S stands for Super Fan!)
After four books dealing mostly with the tedium of enlisted military training, finally we get some action. And if the series continues in this vein then it will be worth the wait.
This is the 5th book in this series. Each one is more exciting than last one. It is extremely well written and I thoroughly enjoyed it. So much so I could not put it down. Highly recommended to those who like mystery and magic.
Triple S are starting to work together. Moorfield is learning their secrets. She received 2 different packages sent to her before she transferred but arrived after she got their. Will she figure out who sent them!
Awesome read! Finally coming into the meat of this story lol. The overall storyline is incredibly interesting and it keeps you reading just to find out what happens next. I would highly recommend this series.
Not that it was a surprise but the group got their stuff together. For some reason the entire HHS group finally fit . Now onto the next installment. The web still turns tightly and where's the spider lurking?
