The truth is your birthright and nothing is more familiar because it is what you are.
This book is an attempt at expressing the truth of your being and the discovery or recognition of that truth (frequently called awakening). The goal of this book is to point you towards your essential nature — what you’ve always known and been.
Here you'll find logic, reason, pointing, deconstruction, investigation, (and some funny, not necessarily helpful, drawings) to help you recognize the non-dual truth of your being. I'm not making any promises. But if you don't emerge into full-blown enlightenment after reading this book then there's no hope for you. (I'm joking!)
Okay for real though. There's all kinds of mindblowing stuff in here. And if nothing else, you might see how your most fundamental beliefs about yourself and reality are merely unquestioned assumptions, and that when you do question them they quickly fall apart.
Hopefully, you'll then recognize the simple truth of your Awareness is all.
I'm embarrassed to say how many books I have read on the meaning of non-duality. It's a lot. But I have never encountered a clearer description of this extremely elusive topic than this short book by Luka Bönisch. If you feel like you've been going in circles struggling to get non-duality, then this is, definitely, the book for you. Just get it!
I wasn't sure how to rate this book. In the end, I decided to base it on my experience of the book, the impact I've experienced because of reading it.
With that said, this book won't be for everyone. It can make your brain hurt, while trying to do the mental flips to understand what the author is saying. I think the issue is twofold. First, our minds have been conditioned by beliefs to see the world a certain way, one that's complicated, but in "reality," our beliefs are getting in the way of seeing the truth, which is actually super simple. Second, language is always going to be a barrier because it's conceptual, so it's difficult to describe the truth of our knowing to someone else in a way that conveys it exactly as we mean it.
Now, the author makes a point of noting that readers need to be ready to read this book in order to "get" the impact. While I believe that's true to a point, I also think that if a reader allows themselves to stay open, guards themselves against the definite confusion and mind-bending frustrating sort of headaches that can come from the mental gymnastics required, then this book can still have an impact, even if it's just a small opening into seeing the truth. It's there and it'll wait until the reader is ready to see the whole truth.
For me, personally, I've experienced this being aware of awareness and it's a state you can't mistake for anything else - if you've experienced it, you'll know it. The thing I find most difficult is maintaining or staying in the state of awareness. My guess is that it's not possible in our current incarnation.
Now, after reading this book, I'm realizing the importance of meditation because I think it's in those quiet moments, those moments of letting everything fall away, and simply listening, that's when the awareness has the opportunity to be seen/felt/known. I'm glad I found this book.
I'm glad I took the time to read this book, to stick with it, taking breaks when necessary. It's a short read, but it is in no way easy, as your mind is constantly fighting to "make sense" of it in terms that relate to what we already believe about the world. But to really understand the book, you need to release those beliefs, you need to be open to not knowing anything, a clean slate, so to speak, and you need to understand that the author is limited by the limitations of language, so patience is also key. I recommend this book. Even if you're not ready for it, it'll plant the seed for future revelation.
Your book helped for understanding other authors reasons for their approach to the same subject. For lack of a better term, approach to direct experience situations. You helped me with your unwavering indication that it is all closer than my breath. Thank you very much!
I highly recommend this wonderful little book to all who are seeking an answer to the question, "Who am I?" It is beautifully straightforward and succinct. The bare bones of pointers. Love, love, LOVE it! Thank you, Luka! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
