A woman on the brink of self-discovery. A Nantucket Historian. And secrets thought lost to time.
Gale doesn't hesitate to change her life when she learns her husband is cheating on her. When someone shows you who they are you should believe them.
With the next chapter of her life unwritten, Gale decides to move in with her mother Evelyn on Nantucket Island. Evelyn is alone and her health is failing her; they need each other. At least that's what Gale thinks.
But secrets from the past have a way of poisoning the present.
Not long after she moves to Nantucket, Gale discovers an old photograph of herself alongside a mysterious little girl who looks just like her.
Who is she? Gale's twin? A lost sister?
When Gale asks Evelyn to explain, Evelyn refuses.
Gale leaves Evelyn's home immediately and strikes out on a quest to discover who the little girl in the photograph is, why she never knew her, and why her mother refuses to speak her name.
Along the way, Evelyn learns far more than she bargained for about herself, her mother, her family -- and a handsome Nantucket historian who helps her put the pieces of the puzzle together.
Good as Gold is book four of the Salt Sisters series, a heart-wrenching yet hopeful family drama that unfolds on the glittering shores of Nantucket Island.
Katie writes women's fiction and clean, wholesome contemporary romance. She looks to everyday, real-life family issues to weave stories of heartfelt emotions, love and loss, and everything in between.
Come transport yourself to Martha's Vineyard: an island of vivid blue ocean, white sand, and a lively community of locals, who celebrate everything from the bright New England summers to the cold, yet cozy, snowcapped winters.
When you pick up a Katie Winter’s book, you can be absolutely certain of two things: (1) It’s going to be one of the best books you’ve ever read; and (2) Katie Winters has this uncanny ability to weave the most incredible plot twists and turns ever! Good as Gold absolutely lives up to this reputation.
The storyline is absolutely amazing; the characters are so well written that you can’t help but feel like you’re having the adventure with them; the plot twists and turns are not only powerful but simply breathtaking as well; and that HEA is one helluva conclusion to a magnificent story…that may or may not end with this beginning. I truly hope that you will grab this book as soon as you can…you’re going to LOVE it! (I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book and was totally enthralled by the journey.) ❤️❤️❤️
Book four is not quite as intriguing as the other books in the series. It takes longer to get engaged in the story, although it goes get better as you go along. Gale was a well-known screen play writer who had some of her scripts made into films. However, she worked out of Providence rather then Los Angeles. Instead, she chose to live in Providence with her husband, Peter, and their two girls. Gale had a loose claim to Nantucket. She and her mother had gone to Nantucket every summer as long as she could remember. Her mother had inherited a summer home from her parents who had died early. Eventually, Eleanor, her mother had remained in Nantucket year round while Gale went on to live her life in Providence. She and her mother had never been really close and as her mother grew older and crankier, they grew even further apart. However, on her forty-sixth birthday, Gale received the unwanted news that her husband wanted a divorce. He was leaving her just as their girls were off to college, leaving her with an empty nest and the task of telling her daughters they were splitting. It was definitely what she wanted to hear on her birthday. Instead, she told the girls she was spending the summer on Nantucket with her mother and Peter, her husband, told them they would talk again when they returned in the fall. Gale let that lie stand so as not to upset her girls any further. So, she set off for Nantucket and her difficult mother. When she arrived, her mother was nowhere to be found and the house locked up. After waiting for a while, Gale set out to see her friend Hilary. Hilary had other friends over, members of the Salt sisters group; but she could see Gale was upset. Hilary explained her group and invited Gale to keep them in mind over the summer. Then, Gale set out for her mother's again. This time, she was there and as difficult as she remembered. Finally, Gale pretended to be tired and settled in her room for the night. Since she couldn't sleep, she decided to look up the stories she had written as a child. As she pulled them out, a photograph fell out from between the papers. It was the picture of two young girls with the notation Twins, 1981. She was spellbound with the photograph as one of the girls was definitely herself; but she didn't recognize the other girl who was identical. Did she have a sister? If so, where was or what happened to her and why had she never been mentioned? Once more, Gale's world was set on its end. What was going on? What secrets did her mother really hold? Who could help her figure things out?
This is the fourth Salt Sisters book that I've read. I read the first book just to have a break from reading non-fiction. Well, I became immersed in the story of the Salt sisters. It's a series well worth reading. It completely takes you in. Katie Winters is an excellent writer. She will have you immersed in the lives of the "sisters", laughing, crying, wondering, every emotion possible. Unlike most serial writers, her books are not formulaic Each book , although the sisters are in the background, is completely different. It is not the same narrative with different characters. I'm thoroughly enjoying this series and hope Katie will keep writing new chapters to the story.
Another good one in the Salt Sister series. Gale returns to her childhood home in Nantucket, fresh off a separation from her cheating husband Peter. Her mom Evelyn seems standoffish and bitter as always. One night Gale finds a mysterious picture of small twin girls about three years of age. Recognizing herself as one of twins, Gale sets off on a journey to discover the truth. Evelyn is no help so she turns to Lucas, a local historian. The pair embarked on an epic road trip to Florida, California, and then back to Nantucket.
Thank you to the author for this ARC. This review my honest opinion
I’ve been so fascinated to read this series, I couldn’t stop reading long enough to write a review . In my defense I believe you will understand when you read them too. I have been very spellbound and I didn’t want to wait long enough . The very idea of stopping to write a review was time consuming that I could be reading chapters in the next book!
Sorry not sorry . Just start on the Salt Sisters book series and you will understand for yourself. I was totally mesmerized and unable to stop myself! I dare you to start reading them too and do anything differently. Gotta go now I’ve got more reading to do ASAP!
Gale leaves home for Nantucket after she learns her husband has been cheating on her. She goes to her mother's house and discovers an old photo of two little girls. Gale begins a quest to learn the truth about this photo and her past. She enrolls historian Lucas to help her. The journey involves stops in Florida and all the way west to California. Lucas and Gale have murky pasts, but the two of them find solace in each other. I loved the plot. Katie Winters writes such unique mysteries in her books along with romance and family strife. This was a great read !
Good as Gold is book 4 in the Salt Sisters series by Katie Winters and up next is Gale’s story. 4.5 stars
What happens when you learn your husband is cheating…you pack up and head to Nantucket and your mother. What you don’t expect is more secrets, discovering an old photo of you and another little girl. When Mom won’t explain you set out to discover the past with the help of a handsome historian…
I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy (ARC) of this book from the author. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
When you think what else can Katie Winters write about, she spins another tale for us, in Good as Gold, having the characters travel out of Nantucket. The characters are so real that they invoke so many emotions from this reader in support of some and dismay at other characters and always joy at the end! Great read!
Of this series, this was the best so far. The earlier ones tended to keep me confused about which era they were talking about. This didn't really do that. I love twins, so this really talked to my heart with 3 sets of twins. I look forward to seeing Gale and Lucas' relationship continues to grow in the future Salt Sister episodes.
What an adventure for Gale! The search for answers about her past and her struggle with her mother were intense. Luca’s is as lost as Gale, but their adventures bring joy back into his life. Wonderfully written with just enough mystery to keep me guessing.
I read this straight through! I couldn’t put it down and was never bored at anytime. The story moves along so fast with so many twists along the way. Totally enjoyed this Book.
I was ready for another tale of ladies sitting drinking and being good friends. I so loved the tale the weaving of this story. Ready it you’ll enjoy it.
Life choices, regrets, and the power of the human spirit to redeem itself. A celebration of the power of women’s hopes and dreams. The value of struggle to right wrongs, to set things in order was so encouraging.
The two sisters had so many memories to iron out, so many to share. Love found their hearts and multiplied them into one blessed heart. Joy was muted, but heard all over Nantucket. Lucas was the proponent and master of the joining of lives . thank you for sharing.
As someone who found out she had another two brothers and sister at the age of eighteen , this book really hit home with me .It like all of Katie Winters books was beautiful written .
This was Gale's story - and what a story! Starts with cheating and heading to Nantucket - includes of course a cute guy and a crazy story! Gale goes on a road trip with Lucas - searching about her past and what happened to the other girl in the photo she found. Lucas and Gale figure each other out - in addition to finding a long lost sister! Absolutely loved the twists and turns of this book.
Nothing to dislike. Very difficult to put down just to get some sleep and think of all the ups and downs. And how we all chose to deal with them or in d Some lives ignore them.
What an absolutely beautiful and amazing story! Very uplifting with all of life's challenges, this was truly an amazing bright star achievement to read! A must read!
This just keeps getting better and better. I’m an only and just to have a sister who I knew and loved would be heaven. My sister died as a baby that I never knew.
