This was a fun, fast-paced series, and I think this last book did a good job of wrapping things up. It had more action/suspense than book two, which I loved.🙌🏻 And I liked the writing, the overall story, and the gang-life vibes.
I felt like the last chapter and epilogue were a little rushed and random, but I enjoyed the action/suspense parts before that. And most, if not all, of my lingering questions were answered, but I think some things could have been better developed. Some parts felt brushed over and too easily resolved. I wish we had gotten to see more of the grunt work. Like how did they so conveniently keep capturing these people and rescuing Blair?🤔
My main issue with this was Blair🤦♀️. She started out strong and interesting in book one (for the most part) but annoyed me more and more as the series progressed. She made a lot of dumb decisions in this last installment that had me laughing and rolling my eyes. Like so much. (I mean she had made dumb decisions since book one, but I didn’t think book three, she’d still be making dumb decisions and so many no less!) But hey, at least she had some self awareness (at times)? She also made a lot of dumb comments. She was all talk about how “badass” she was and that she was a queen (alright, we get it, “queen”😒). But it came across as inauthentic and forced. Like she was trying too hard to convince everyone (and perhaps even herself and the MMCs) of her “queen” status (I’m sorry but a “real queen” doesn’t need to remind everyone she’s a queen every 5 seconds😵💫), and overall, she was full of herself, naive, and had blinders on. She lost a lot of her relatability and personality when compared to book one imo. The more involved she became with the MMCs and gang life, the more… idk arrogant, ignorant, dick-drunk, “whoa is me,” and “not like other girls” she became. Like she thought she was all that, and it just rubbed me the wrong way. I didn’t like it. Maybe if there had been more character development or scenes showing her HUMBLY become a “queen” and put in the work to learn how to lead, be in a gang, fight, and shoot a gun and not make impulsive, dumb, rash decisions and whine about things, then maybe I could have sympathized more? Idk but a lot her actions and behavior didn’t coincide with the things she said and thought. If it weren’t for how she was in this, I probably would have given it 4 stars, because I did enjoy it as a whole and liked the action/suspense scenes.
Also, I still wish Quinn hadn’t died. I didn’t see the need for her death in the grand scheme of things. I mean she was the only other female character, other than Greyson’s mom, and was Blair’s only friend. And poor Levi. My heart hurt for him. What a rough life and family. He really came through in the end, though!
Another thing: I liked that this was single POV, because it added some mystery to the MMCs. Like what were they doing, thinking, etc.? We only learned about them through Blair’s POV. But, I also feel like this could have benefited from being multi POV, especially during the action/suspense parts like when they kept having to come to her rescue🤣. I think it would have made things more suspenseful, less formulative, and felt like things weren’t so easily and quickly resolved each time.
