Exploring Historic Hilo

Rate this book
Take a journey through old Hilo town. Revisit the golden era when cane was king, and Hilo was a bustling center of activity for the surrounding plantation villages. Rich anecdotes and rare photographs are included this handy, site-by-site guide, the second Big Island volume in Watermark's Small Town Series. Here are 100 photos — historic churches, mom-and-pop stores, field workers, tsunami damage — many of them from private collections and each one keyed to a location on a foldout walking map.

Just moved into a cottage in a historic Hilo neighborhood, so I'm educating myself. This is a wonderful black and white photo book of old Hilo. Could have been easier to follow if the photos followed the map.
