Set in the fictional and enchanting town of Guadalupe, New Mexico, the conclusion of the Guadalupe trilogy is A Santo in the Image of Cristobal Garcia, dreamlike and brimming with magical realism with a melancholy narrative.

The gentle-hearted Flavio Montoya returns but now an aged patriarch of his family, still tending his sister Ramona’s fields and wondering how all of his family died before him. And when the mountains of Guadalupe erupt into flames, it sets the complicated history of the village loose in the smoke as the dead arrive and the silent speak. When Flavio is accused of starting the fire that threatens to destroy the village of Guadalupe, Flavio tries to understand what he is accused of. It becomes another mystery that he must fold into his memory.

It is in A Santo in the Image of Cristobal Garcia that we witness the entire history of the magical village of Guadalupe from the long ago winter when it came to be. The gentle-hearted Flavio Montoya once again is at the forefront of this beautiful little book as we all try to make sense of what is happening or just believe as we see the santos playing a big role as we witness the story of Cristobal Garcia. I have been so struck with the beauty of this trilogy by Rick Collignon. I am so happy that somehow, I managed to collect the trilogy as they were published. Even though they have languished in my library for a lot of years, I am glad that I finally took them down from the shelf. It was truly a wonderful journey to my beloved New Mexico with all of its magic and enchantment.
