Under the shadow of Colorado's rain-filled skies, a killer is stalking the employees of Chance’s Hardwood. When her overbearing mother convinces her to go to work for husband number six (or is it seven?) Victoria Rayne has no idea she’s become a target.
With her best friend flying in for vacation, and a growing attraction to a broody coworker, Victoria doesn’t have time to keep finding dead bodies!
When Victoria is attacked in the warehouse after hours, the race is on to discover the secret behind the mysterious forces surrounding her stepfather’s business; because no one wants to die working for a company with the slogan, “Our wood never disappoints.”
Sharon Brown created a paranormal romance series to highlight real places in Colorado, then sprinkled in fictional supernatural elements. When she isn't writing, you may find her hiking, gardening, or being held hostage by one of her cats. If you have a can of salmon, you might be able to free her from their feline tyranny.
I REALLY enjoyed this book on a number of levels: 1. am a picky reader, there's very few books that I will read past the first 100 pages if it doesn't grab me, and I'm also not the type of person to read Murder Mystery-- the suspense drives me crazy. (That's why I like MM shows like Colombo, is because you know who the killer is, and you get to watch Colombo take them down.) But that's not the case with this book. There's enough going on to where I didn't get impatient waiting to see who the villain was. There were a lot of twists too, but it was done in such a way that added to the hype rather than leaving you wondering what was going on. 2. I really enjoyed all of the characters. Each of them had layers that added to the surprise and twists in the story. 3. It left me wanting more, which is rare for a book to do. Thankfully, the sequel has come out for me to enjoy ✨️
Don't let the synopsis fool you. In between coworkers dropping into another plane of existence, there's a cozy backdrop of homecooking, a cat, budding romance, and lots of true friends. The author sprinkles bits of the backstory, at key points, to help readers piece together the supernatural aspects of the horrifying mystery. Down Came the Rayne was hard to put down. Every chapter had a surprising development which kept me glued to the pages. There are clues left behind that I expect will play out into a second book. I highly recommend this book to readers who like a supernatural mystery with a quick dive into true crime. It's one of my favorite stories this year.
Down Came The Rayne is a great murder mystery book for young adults. It’s a quick, entertaining read with supernatural elements peppered throughout. I particularly enjoyed Victoria’s romance with the Colorado curmudgeon! Their banter was adorable.
Down Came the Rayne is a really unusual murder mystery that's well worth a read. I loved the main characters and I thoroughly enjoyed the pacing of the book. The twist is exceptional. Here's hoping there's a second in the series because I, for one, would like more!
